  1. I never heard of those until a student wrote a paper about Christian romances in which she mentioned Amish romances. I'm near a large Amish settlement and our Walmart is full of them. I didn't even notice them before I read the paper.
  2. I often thought that was Sean's problem. We only know what he said about his father, but we could see his mother's behavior. I can see lots of guys walking when they can't get the mother to change. Unfortunately, they usually walk away from the child, which causes problems.
  3. Just once before this show is cancelled, I'd like someone to say, "I think I did well" instead of "I think I did good." Didn't any of their teachers use the red pen???
  4. Sometimes you have to make your own party. Just a week out from gallbladder surgery, I took a chance on a short drive to the store to get some meds. I also thought I'd walk around the store, since I can't really do much else until my post surgery visit. To be honest, it was a bit more than I expected. Danged if I didn't call my son and let him know mom's been a big girl. But now she was weak and sweating and was gonna rest with some marshmallow peeps. After the obligatory, "You're doing great, but don't push it" from the boy, I was fine and felt properly praised. 😁
  5. I wondered if he did travel for organizations? We had an outside travel agent for the university. I did my conference travel thru them, but I could also use them for personal travel (since he mentioned Valentine's Day travel). Other than that, yeah, I think that's a no growth field.
  6. I had cataract surgery a few years ago and gallbladder surgery last week. I always have questions, most of them based on the literature, because I audited clinical trials for years and know how.they.eff.up. Plus, my stepfather was a litigator who often had medical malpractice cases. When I interviewed for the audit job, they asked if I would be intimidated by doctors. Ha! We used to talk about doctors around the dinner table. I read, I ask questions, I get another opinion if necessary. I didn't see anything wrong with the questions. There weren't a lot, and considering this guy hasn't had a blood test in years, maybe they were appropriate. I don't know. The older you get, folks, and especially if you are a female, and especially especially if you are a female of color, the more you need to hold these medical people's feet to the fire when it comes to your health care. You don't even want to know the research on medical care for black women, no matter if they have insurance, an education, and a good income.
  7. Was that a joke with his mother about giving blood or was he seriously upset with her? He's way too close to having to get an Uber back to Orlando. She should have nipped that level of attitude in the bud years ago.
  8. He looks huge sitting next to his mother. How often do you think they sanitize those walls by the scale where patients put their hands (which you know are sticky from the last remnants of fast food as they drove to the office)?
  9. Indeed he is. ABD in Ed Policy with a good job and a big house that he bought last spring. He was dating his partner for a few years, but covid, messed up wedding plans. The baby came first, as happens, but they finally got married last Saturday. The wife is no slouch either. I'm proud of both of them. And the little fella. Unlike this guy, my son bought property and made side money from real estate. You have to have goals and drive.
  10. Thank goodness! Hello, my people! My son lived with me until his first marriage. We had / have a friendly, loving relationship and I made him many a meal as an adult. However, I would have dropped kicked him to Mars if he talked to me like this slug talks to his mom. My eating habit is some hummus and Saltines. I feel OK from the surgery, but I don't want a meal. Maybe later.
  11. Why can't most of these people just do what he tells them to do? Does she need to move a bit more, sure, but the pool was fine. You lose weight in the kitchen. Stick to the diet. You'll lose the weight. It's so frustrating. I wonder if it's the influence of the media or something - that people think they need to do a ton of exercise to lose weight, when that isn't the case. There are people with heart or mobility conditions that make it impossible for them to move much, but they still lose weight because they follow de diet.
  12. Years ago I got breast reduction and had to go thru HR to have it approved. The guy asked me, "Does your husband know you're doing this?"
  13. Shoot! We have a storm coming thru and the signal went out just as she was going in to get weighed! Did she lose weight? Is she going to get the surgery?
  14. Why not have the investment company send the check directly to a new bank in Texas? This isn't rocket surgery.
  15. I thought about that and as a retired professor, I bet he's thinking only the most motivated will actually read the book the first time. Most will look at the pictures and maybe go to the diet. I've seen a sample of the book and it actually covers quite a bit about the psychology of overeating. By asking them to read it every night (which most won't), they'll at least absorb something more than they would by just reading it once. Even for us academic types, it's not unusual to have to read many books and research papers more than once to truly understand the info.
  16. Mine was supposed to be, but the duct was wider than usual and they wanted to make sure they got everything. I needed labs the next day. My surgery was late in the day and they didn't want me to go home and have pretty much turn around and come back. It was easier to keep me overnight.
  17. Hello my people! I set the alarm, but must have slept through it. I had gallbladder surgery on Tues, but they kept me overnight instead of letting me go the same day. I was still tired when they let me go today and took a nap. Maybe it was the oxy. 😁 I'm sore, as to be expected, but it could be worse. I haven't had a food habit yet, but will probably have some soup and a popsicle during the show.
  18. Well, she ain't no Nikki. When you refuse to do the work, you don't get the surgery. "Have a nice trip back home." Brutal, Dr Now, brutal!
  19. I was afraid of that - how is she going to get up and run behind that little girl? Or even feed her? My sister babysits her 3 yr old granddaughter and it's been a handful. All she wants to do is nap (my sister, not the baby).
  20. I had to leave the room for a bit - whose baby is that?
  21. I used to do that with a bunch of women from the same office building. We go do our WW weigh in and then have lunch at a nice restaurant. Hopeless.
