My stepfather, a busy attorney, was fine when my mother was working. When she took early retirement, his true colors came out and he called all the time, "Where's your mother?" "How long has she been home?" etc. I was a high schooler and even then I knew what was going on and was disgusted.

Not only the psychological issues, but the years of skin surgery, unforeseeable outcomes, pain... We've seen really big people on TV for a number of years now - how do obesees not think that the surgery is just the start and that there is a very, very long road in front of them. Even people who lose 200 lbs have skin issues.

I'm going to back off the snark for a minute and say it must be hard for her to find people to help her. I don't blame her for feeling down - but unlike others, she isn't saying "Well, life sucks, I might as well eat what I want." Yeah, she's not perfect, but I'm gonna hope the best for her. What a voice!

Aliya jr is thinking about this, too. My husband was Greek on his father's side. We don't have a specific Greek Orthodox church here, but the Eastern Orthodox one is open to the various types. Aliya jr would have to get out of bed on Sunday first, so I'm not holding my breath.

I'm from DC and lived mostly on the east coast. Our merchants out here frequently have BBQs and other food events. I never heard of anything like it where I've lived before. Shoot - my grocery store has a guy out front on a grill several times a month during good weather.

I've mentioned it before, but years ago I read that, contrary to popular opinion, many morbidly obese people are not diabetic. The theory was that a diagnosis of diabetes put some folks on the straight and narrow. They start taking care of themselves (or in different ways, I am not accusing diabetics [of which I am one] of not taking care of themselves). Without the diagnosis, some just keep engaging in bad behaviors - and for some, the result is morbid obesity. "Dr Now don't play!" I hope she takes those words to heart and makes the big changes she needs to make. We'll see.

I got a "big-assed" mailer about a sale at my grocery store. Tomorrow only. Is it a sin if I shop for food while Dr Now is on? And, because this is the Midwest, I got a postcard today from my insurance agent announcing an 'appreciation' BBQ. Does your agent do that for you? This is Iowa. I don't eat pork, but there is a big pig silhouette on the front. I'm pretty sure the Johnson County Pork Producers is footing the bill for this one. Maybe they'll have some tofu.

I think she meant Orthodox Christian - their holidays are often on different days than the Western Christian calendar.

Actually, that's a terrible way to talk about and talk to your daughter. I would never talk that way, especially on TV, about aliya jr. And yelling at her daughter for being big is not going to make her change.

Good grief - stay single! Don't have sex with every guy you meet. And not married to any of the 'baby daddy' either, huh? OK, listening to her mother makes me want to come through the TV.
