1. After a one-episode trial around Christmas, Series 1 of Celebrity Game Night has started on Britain's Channel 5. I really dig it, and find it both scratching that HGN itch while improving on the American model. The host is actress and radio presenter Liza Tarbuck, who keeps control of the show really well and brings the right demeanor to the proceedings. The show also has regular team captains, Scottish comedian Susan Calman and writer/presenter Danny Baker. All three are veterans on British panel shows. There are no "civilian" contestants, just 8 celebrities battling it out for fun and glory. I've always thought HGN would be better without contestants fighting for cash and celebs just letting loose and having fun, while still being fiercely competitive. Changed games: Popped Quiz's machine has spouts on both sides, so an opposing team member gets blasted with popcorn when a correct answer is given. The final game on every episode is now Smash the Buzzer, but the type of question varies. One episode was pop culture math, the other was questions and answers in reverse. Casting Couch is changed to Bum Rush, with players sitting on the pillow of a celebrity's face. New games: Wooden Actor, charades with the clue givers wearing oversized stiff arms. Bid of Fun has competitors bidding on how much of a task they can do, with the highest bidder having to perform the task. Examples were how many rubber bands could one put on your head in 30 seconds, or how many steps you could log on a set of pedometers in 30 seconds. Here's where you can catch series one, episode one.
2. I can't be the only one watching this thinking, "Don't blink." Tell me I'm not the only one.
3. What's the current record for time between air date and Nonac submission? Because we have a new contender. The premise of Christmas being too commercial is right from an 80s very special episode, the accents are bad but not so-bad-theyre-good, and the jokes do not warrant the howls of laughter they're getting from the audience. The innuendo in this one was too much, capped off by turning a quote made famous by MLK into something dirty. Homer Simpson's performance in "Rent 2" is more nuanced than what Eric McCormick is trying to do in this episode And what a waste of Brian Posehn.
4. I think of the numbered jars more like non-elimination legs on The Amazing Race. There are just certain episodes pre-determined to not have someone eliminated even though someone has come in last place. It's too bad that the show went with the myth that tongue maps are a true thing. It's a common misconception they could have dispelled.
5. Okay, how is there not some sort of White House security camera that can show Whitaker as the person who had the original digital fingerprint? You know what room he walked out of, pull up some hallway camera footage.
6. It's too bad an all 1980 episode had some grocery store packaging flubs. And a lack of research into Pennsylvania liquor law.
7. Well now I feel weird about using my Hulu Watchlist for new episode notifications.
8. It was a great Match Game moment and she was living up to the expectations of her being positioned in what was traditionally the "dummy seat" back in the 70s.
9. Previously.tv.A place a guy can come to realize he's not alone in his Piscatella crush. Woof.
10. They definitely seem to be taking a different tone this season. They even ditched the 80s-rock theme song.
11. Remember kids, don't Linc and drive.

Hopefully next week will bring some Inhuman badassery to make up for some of the more blah action this week.
