  1. I think it was a sweet episode (again Ma gets nothing) but not being a seamstress at all, can you make 2 long girl dresses from one adult? I know Ma was a whiz, but hand sewing 2 dresses and all the trim in one evening, well a little LHOP magic. I admit though, I know little, since I'd be wearing burlap sacks being all thumbs with a needle and thread : ) Mike wasn't great with any consistency and seemed to forget what was written before. Having shows a week apart and reruns only in the summer or holiday's helped some not notice. I was laughing at "cash on the barrel" Ingalls always forgot that when he wanted too and then saw this on Reddit. Might be a laugh for some of you. I laughed outloud at the the comments about poor Harriet not being moved enough to give Charles credit, "I guess the tight pants didn't do it for her"
  2. Didn't Laura let out he had gold under his wife's grave, someone stole it and he kills himself. Charles lies to her but Caroline knows? So sad. Was she crazy to do that?
  3. Did Laura ever get punished in the TV show? She did lot of things and was threatened but I don't recall anything. She took off at night to do things and Charles was upset, she bothered the guy in the old house and he got upset and she did other things to people but only had to apologize. She ran away and caused them great angst over baby Charles and then made Albert miserable so he left because she didn't learn the world didn't rotate around her. She thought selling fake medicine to people was a good idea and just had to apologize. If Mary did anything wrong, even once, she was punished. If Laura did the fire in the barn, she'd be yelled and that would be it. If Mary stole the music box, she'd still be grounded. lol It's okay to steal and break something because the person you took it from isn't nice. All those speeches from Pa never took hold and lying got her another apology and Nellie getting in trouble. (I realize she was mean and Nellie should just have told Charles but then Charles would have to punish Laura) That could not happen!
  4. Yes and they better not sucker punch with something else. Nose bleeds can be common with kids and they did the blood disease already. Don't make the single mom have the sick kid....but that doesn't seem the CTM writing usually. They aren't soap opera which I appreciate. How they handle Matthew.....time will tell. I already forgot about Lucille and hope they keep Cyril and slowly just have them divorce and move on.
  5. They are still talking about it, wasn't she at the table with kleenex up her nose? I don't like another child sick episode especially the only child of one of the midwives but time will tell. They did leukemia already, I just hope it's nosebleeds but showing it, gave me pause.
  6. Do the new episodes start in US January or later? Last year I think it was March. I know the tabloids were noting Trixie's hubby missing from filming but time will tell with that. I was a little put off by it at first, but contracts and other things we don't know about will be the deciding factor. I love the show with him or without him but it does bring gossip when a big tadoo is done and then the headlines. I always love the Xmas special and it brings me down from the activities and stress if any from the day, my sister and I send texts about the plot and they are my TV friends. Sure there are things to complain about but for me little and compared to most TV shows, none. : )
  7. Barbara died at the end of the season but the Xmas special had Trixie come and take her midwife outfit. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6529783/Viewers-left-drowning-tears-Call-Midwife-Christmas-special.html Maybe Colette wont be thought of much but SMJ whom I like but has been given bad, erratic scripts, might be her "nanny" being close to her now. The scripts for her are not the best and repetitive and I would think the writers would do better.
  8. This explains a bit more. They do say "shepherd and angel". I think Reggie can come off pushy but he's worthy of having opinions and I'm sure I've seen times when he was told No. I would hate to see him treated like he was 4 all the time even with disability. https://www.rifton.com/adaptive-mobility-blog/blog-posts/2013/october/down-syndrome-art-paintings Lack of Moral Fiber was new to me but "British". Lack of Moral Fibre (LMF) was a punitive designation used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War to stigmatize aircrew who refused to fly operations12. The term was also applied to World War II pilots who snapped under the strain of combat and refused to fly, and were then accused of lack of moral fiber3. The term refers to ethical courage and dates back to the second half of the 1800s
  9. I know Mike helped a lot of the kids and interacted with Alison a lot but Jon? He must have, they had a lot of scenes together and he gave him more work later with a wife. She'll be at reunion, do I dare ask how they ended up...just bye or did he keep in touch. They probably already warned her though...no talking about him. A guy on another LHOP forum, just said he knew someone who worked on the set and no pictures of Jon after 20 were real. Most were obvious but it's funny how no one on LHOP would say "That's not Jon" They just ignored it. Melissa knows her brother. She said she saw him twice since he left but it's been a long time I think. If was he homeless, abused, changed name, not a big deal. They can say he moved on, hates get togethers and is fine. Why lie? It wasn't just his sister, it was family. I agree, Mike had bad press but not that bad. Some hated him, some put up with him, some loved him. Jon was small potatoes, they aren't protecting him. . It seems Melissa and Alison picked on Jon and others on the set (maybe why Melissa lSue liked him and Carrie had a crush on him) Just my take, it's more about them than him. If he is in the US and didn't lose hair or gain 300 pounds, and was Jon Gilbert, someone would see that "Willie" smile over 50 years and think "is that who I think it is? Very odd and after reading the interviews, they were so honest and I wondered if the author left some things out. He didn't answer that.
  10. Melissa was jealous when he came but I would hope she outgrew that. I just know that he wanted to leave it all, took his money and took off and no one is really "gone" with a SS number and working. But all they say is lies, someone on a LHOP site, said he couldn't say much but everyone is quiet and Melissa just says she called police early on which didn't make sense and Alison will make up things that are funny like "monk" or acting in plays or the poor guy who is always said to be the wall street "Jon" who isn't him. He didn't go to that college, the other guy did. Just sad. Richard was the closest I think in saying he wasn't happy at home and left. Melissa Sue and one of the Carrie twins said they kept in touch a short time, Melissa Sue I think it was she knew someone who knew him. Melissa G said she has seen him twice in all those years if I remember right but the silence speaks more than the words. Oddly I noted he didn't seem to keep in touch with his step sister either. In the book, the author gave Katherine the most time (of course) but I am glad they gave him kudos when others tried to make fun of him or say he wasn't professional when he was just 6 or so. He did fine as much as his part would give him. I noticed he wasn't interviewed then either as the girls were. I just hope he's okay and living his best life. Four actors from Little House on the Prairie: - Karen Grassle (Caroline Ingalls), 14 pages - Katherine MacGregor (Harriet Oleson), 21 pages. - Richard Bull (Nels Oleson), 14 pages - Dabbs Greer (Reverend Alden), 14 pages The interviews with Richard Bull, Dabbs Greer and katherine MacGregor were made shortly before their passing. All pictures published in the magazine are courtesy of the actors. Most of them are very rare and previously unpublished.
  11. Yes, you are right, the males were quiet. A lot of "Albert" fans wanted a bio but he has also been very quiet. No real interviews with Matt. I know he played on the set with Jon but nothing on him either from his LHOP friends. I think there is a "do not tell" with some. If they lived longer and wanted some money I think Richard Bull might have or Doc Baker. He was vocal about pay and things like that. Thanks for reminding me about Katherine's bio. How sad. There was a great interview with her and Richard Bull and Karen and Dabbs in a magazine from a guy in the UK I think. I can't believe I gave it away to a fan. I would love to read it again. She was very honest about her dislike of Mr Landon at times and his affair and flaunting it, etc She also praised when deserved. I also loved how both of them , Richard and Katherine, spoke so highly of Jonathan Gilbert and no one else remembers him. Melissa Sue liked him and kept in touch with a friend of his for a while but everyone else was weird. Katherine thought Matt was slightly odd but Jon was bright and learned his lines and was a pleasure to work with. His mom not so much, She was all about Melissa. Magazine was called "Prairie Memories" by Patrick Loubatière.
  12. When Carroll did "in the Heat of the Night" Ketty starred in an episode called Gunshots. Maybe more, I don't know but nice they were friendly. I would have LOVED a Katherine bio over all the rest of the ones written. She was spunky, honest and crazy, lol. Maybe not the type to do one but I would have loved it. Alas we have many, but it gets a bit much when the "babies" are writing them. ; ) Richard Bull also did a lot of TV that many missed or didn't know.
  13. I don't know about Katherine but Ketty did. From her bio "Ketty Lester talks to Ed about her love for acting, which began when she was a young girl in Arkansas; how she formally studied acting at Theatre West in Los Angeles (and befriended, among others, Carroll O’Connor); and how she successfully transitioned from nightclub singer to actress when the music industry changed in the late 1960s."
  14. I agree, if it was just a movie, a one time thing, maybe. You can't change that viewers thought it was "real" any more than you can change minds now about things. I think like you, the ones with them trapped in a cabin during a blizzard with the Native American saving them was "gritty" for the show. I didn't need to see Pa skin an animal or Ma cook it, but mentioning the work was what she meant too. Everything just appeared done most of the time and she was always radiant. ; ) Seeing them make flour or Caroline plow a field was "gritty" for the show. I always wanted something, special on the Long Winter and how they survived but then you couldn't have Laura meeting an older man in the woods or finding a baby...well maybe you could, lol
  15. Charlotte Stewart talked of Karen wanting that but understanding later, the public wanted to think it was like LHOP. Part of interview " Stewart noted that Grassle often felt the series failed to realistically portray Midwestern farm life in the 1800s. “[Grassle] thought the show was a bit too lightweight in its exploration of themes such as family, marriage relationships, the harshness of prairie life, and so on,” Stewart wrote. “She wanted the show to be grittier, as she said once in an interview, adding that at one point she felt like the show was ‘Let’s Pretend on the Prairie.’ She says she’s come to see it differently with time.”
  16. Yes, watching it again on Hulu few years ago, I missed a lot because after what they did to Romano, I signed off. I would watch the "Clooney is back" episodes or Mark's ghost so to speak but it was hard. I am glad it ended the way it did with Carter but I felt with him, it was left with a ? Does he find happiness? There were some gems thrown in the last few years but much less than the first 6. Still in my eyes, the number one show for medical and seeing the reunion with them on youtube 2 years ago was fun.
  17. I might be wrong, but in one bio book of the show, I think they said the crying was very real of course with Grace which is sad. She cried a lot, another time it didn't seem planned was when they moved back to Walnut Grove. Maybe it was Karen who mentioned it. Yes it was silly and I don't understand how being "fat" for the circus is okay but no one is supposed to comment on it. Odd concept and the fact that she wasn't that huge, the clothes added to it. And Nel's never would have not seen his sister because of her weight or Harriet not know he had one. I'm not sure if that was the worst plot or the blind children there or Laura acting like a bitch and getting away with it again. I guess Monzo's girlfriend didn't realize she belonged in the big city with John Jr's . ; )
  18. I agree with above. It was a rollercoaster ride with some big bumps but fun. Louis was my fav. The rest were Barbie dolls including Harvey. They started to have more depth but Donna and the ladies in general were fluff and trying to act tough but you just went with it. I found myself having my first hate watch in a way but really missing it when I watched the last one.
  19. If they were on good terms I can't imagine him not using him at least once but he did have his son. I wished he came back again but that wasn't how it was with characters like that.
  20. Yes, it was much better and thanks for all the extra info. I loved his performance and thought the baby born after Saint Charles left was a bit much but so Michael Landon. lol I can't watch the LHOP version without wanting the acting performance from the original. Dan was a great actor and knocked this out of the park with subtle strokes instead of sledgehammer. All of them were excellent. This short video from Johnny mentions what he remembers of that episode and Its so Dan to get him gifts and be kind.
  21. Watching the episode where Charles try to wave his wand with the horse dealer. I thought their chemistry and touching was much more than anything on The Handyman.Well maybe the touching, Chris was pretty sexy and nice guy. When Charles complimented her cooking and hands and after her husband rejected her, he put his hands on her from behind while she said she was invisible. Chris just caught Caroline when she was falling. : ) I kind of liked the Bonanza version better with Hoss. He had a lazy day copying it but of course he had more flirting etc. on LHOP Hoss was just such a big teddy bear.
  22. Okay, but that wasn't deliberate, just careless. I think the reason the actress who played Nancy stayed away from LHOP reunions was her character was disliked so much. Not her fault, but I think she's going this year and hoping most forgot the awful scripts she was paid to read. I think overall, she had some of the "you hate me" worst scripts of anyone on the show. So sad, Michael killed the show with having a sociopath on it. She was never redeemable and I'm not sure who in his life was like that, but it retrospect, it was sad. She wasn't even made that way by the system, she was like that when they got her which is worse. I would have loved to see Harriet get a "Nellie" in looks but she was nice and you saw a different type of daughter, maybe overwhelmed by the things they had, but a normal kid. Harriet spoiled Nellie but Nellie wasn't evil. Vindictive and jealous at times but not evil. Maybe the anger at the tabloids and his wife or the tarnish on Mike's image, IDK, but he lost focus and let the show die. Even Melissa G knew it toward the end. You felt you were just going through the motions.
  23. I don't remember that...Wow. I thought it was odd he was made an addict, attracted to kids he wouldn't have liked, but Michael did want to bring somethings in his life to the screen. (I think Cheryl his daughter had addiction issues) Suicide was another thing he had way to often and his mom used to pretend to do that. He had a lot of issues to work out in scripts. Was that in a conversation with Doc? I must have glossed over it probably thinking the same thing you did. Wasn't show I wanted to watch a lot. I just remember the kind storekeeper asking Charles why he left, and he said something about "failed crops" or whatever. He did have him on another episode, a friend that had a heart attack while traveling with him. I got the demonizing of the city, but they weren't all dens of sin, sure they had a saloon but not every shopkeeper was mean and insensitive and WG wasn't free from crime, rapists, racists and mayhem. All I know is Caroline looked happy in the one episode of her on a telephone call and her home seemed very nice and she had so much room, you never saw Carrie or Grace or her other kids in any scene. I wish they showed more of it, eating dinner at a table with real plates, having a bathroom for Carrie, a bed not 2 feet from their grade school child. I hated seeing the Carter's stuff in the little house...sure they had less kids but it was so crowded with things, like she downsized but didn't give enough away. : )
  24. I just read that Jonathan's wife on the show is going to be at the reunion in Ct too. I wouldn't bother her about it, but I did wonder about her relationship if any to him since they had so many scenes together. Did he keep in touch with her or like her, that kind of stuff. The show was going off the rails then, but I did like Jon's scenes with his dad and how mature he was. They tried to make the young couple not able to keep their hands off each other, something you didn't see with others, but the show was getting older and flagging in ratings . Mike hated reunion shows but a couple of years later would have loved a 2 hour special with everyone meeting in the city or showing WG while Nel's and Harriet and Willie are getting ready to go to Nellie's for Thanksgiving. Something like that. Or vice versa. Alas it wasn't meant to be but it would have erased the last years I think and they wouldn't have aged that much in a few years (Mike's worry)
  25. Yes, even when the weather just hit the little house and not anyone else's you wonder why he just didn't try being a blacksmith. ; ) I think after the rapiest died, it was open. Even when the crops were okay, a kid would get kicked by a horse, the only one doing chores it seems. Can't have a birthday or anniversary or holiday go well. Can't let Caroline have a trip that goes well, a reunion where everyone is not doing badly usually because they were "well off". Can't have an old friend have a decent husband, Charles was last of the them in the big woods I guess. Can't move your family to the "bad city" without sacrificing the smart, street savvy one to morphine because Albert would do that.....wasn't enough to burn down a school, kill his sister's baby and friends mom, I'll go crazy and make Pa take me back to Walnut Grove, because detoxing in the bad city is impossible. I can go back there later though. You just have to love it. ; )
