It's an antiquated way of subtly shaming women and justifying poor behavior towards them. It's a qualifier that comes up frequently, despite the fact that it has little to nothing to do with what's currently unfolding. Annie's past and possible former job, which is open to opinions but we have no solid facts about it, should have no bearing on the original statement which was that she and David met organically. Whatever she was doing at that bar when they met, the fact remains that they DID meet each other in person and started a relationship that way as opposed to others who met online. IMO there's no reason to bring alleged prostitution into the mix. Even if he was "serviced" that night, they still met in person rather than on a dating app. FWIW I know Annie and David. We did several events together, and I have nothing negative to say about either one of them (other than snarking on the behavior we see on air). They seem to be well matched and have a solid relationship. I re-watched the sneak peek again and if anything the oral health convo pissed me off even more the second time around. The whole convo, from him telling her how to wear the bikini top to the aside to the camera about her alleged bad breath, is just condescending and trashy all the way around. And Geoffrey with the shovel...TLC is basically trolling us right now, right? 😁

"Hooker bar" or not, at least they met face-to-face. (I don't like speculating about Annie like that. But no matter what her past may be, she's still classier than most.)
-
Of course this isn't just about sex. He could hire a hooker for less, but would that get him on TV? No. Ed's a big old famewhore who has been trying to pimp himself out through one avenue or another for years. The point of this wasn't just to get laid, it was to expand his existing audience. He thought he'd be potrayed as the scrappy little "authentic" guy who treats this poor helpless little girl like a princess and people would love him. He was wrong.
-
Or worse, withhold sex for the rest of his trip. Cause homeboy has no intentions of continuing this once he gets home.
-
And damn if I don't love watching that one, too! 😀

I know someone who just went through the interview process for this show (they didn't make it) and some of the questions were: Is anyone against your relationship? Are you hiding a big secret from your partner? Is there anything shocking about your relationship? I'm starting to think the whole raw deal was just made up for the show. Young Nigerian/50 year old American woman has already been done. Lisa needed to set herself apart in the interview.

Ed and Rosemarie: The Long and the Short of It
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
I believe it's one thing to want to better your life while still taking pride in your home and a completely different thing to have someone be like "Your bed isn't good enough for me so I'm sending sheets that cost more than what you earn in a month" and "I don't trust the food you eat or how you prepare it so I'm bringing my own cooking device." And not just to insinuate these things, but to do so on television. As I've said, I grew up poor. Did I want my kids growing up with an outhouse like me? No. Did I want them getting cold in the winter because we didn't have the money to pay our electric bill? No. Did I want them going to bed hungry because all we had to eat in the house were a few old potatoes? No. I wanted to give them better. With that said, though, I still took pride in my childhood home. Maybe we had to eat baked potatoes every night for a month, but our table was cleaned every day, it always held a vase of wildflowers from our yard, and my great grandpa built it by hand. Our house may have been freezing in the winter, but we kept it tidy and decorated the walls with pretty calendar pictures. It may not have been much, but it was my home. We worked damn hard to have that place. Just because I'm hoping for better with my own kids doesn't mean I don't take pride in where I'm from. It is possible to desire more while still appreciating what you have. The two things are not mutually exclusive. Ed has continuously pointed out what is physically wrong with Rose and her home. He's an ass who just wanted a young piece of ass. -

He probably wants it asked on the Tell All because calling Rose out in front of the camera is kind of his thing. -

He could even be lying about sending them in the first place. -
He got the pretty girl to love him by hiding the fact that he's a convicted felon. What Geoffrey has done is illegal. What Rose is doing is not. I don't think they're comparable.
-
Geoffrey casts the blame on everyone and everything else. He takes very little responsibility. He blames the situation, people, etc.
-
And it just keeps piling on. She's gonna blow. Also, as far as why she's still with him, everyone in her area now knows that she's shacked up with him. She may feel obligated to see it through.

And "gifts" that basically told her that her home wasn't good enough for him: grill to cook his food on, sheets for him to lay on, etc. -
Why stop with bad breath? I am all for her eating a big bowl of beans, too! The thing is, without treatment for her ulcers, her breath will continue to smell no matter how often she brushes. Ed, on the other hand, could bathe or change clothes. He always looks sweaty and smelly.
-
My sympathy lies with her because I find her situation, while common, devastatingly sad. I grew up with nothing. We didn't even have indoor plumbing for much of my childhood. I had big dreams of a better life, thought, and working towards those kept me going. I worked hard in school, got a good scholarship thanks to my good grades and test scores, I saved money from every job I could get... Never once did I stop and think that I'd need a man to help me. I honestly believed that if I tried and worked hard enough, I'd make it and improve my life. I planned on marrying for love, not for stability or money-I planned on supplying those myself. I have no idea what it would feel like to know that my best, and perhaps only, option would be to find a man in another country. To know that to get my child out of that cycle of poverty I'd have to move halfway across the world, away from everyone I loved. To know that marrying for love is a luxury and the best I could hope for is to find a man who is nice to me and to hope some type of affection would form later. I feel sorry for her because I have no idea what that kind of life feels like, but that as a mother I'd marry the king of toads to give my child a life better than what I'd known.

Also on YouTube if you can catch it before the site removes the video.

At first I thought both women were in on this scam-friends who got together and concocted this scheme in an attempt to get Steph some free marketing. I still think that's the scheme; I just don't think Erika was in on it.

David and Lana: The Seven-Year Ditch

That documentary about Ukrainian love tours is very interesting and conveys the reality. Website women=Eastern European models. Love Tours= average looking women of all ages and body types. -
The First Look is already up. Rose specifically explains that it's a stomach ulcer causing the halitosis, not her teeth.
-
Yep. He was worried about his own ass. Someone truly worried would've asked how he could help, what could be done for her, etc. He's probably mad that this little doll of his is different out of the box. He doesn't want a real relationship with someone who has real problems. We don't know how much Sister Rose asked for, but the fact that he's seen how they live and he's still harping over the money (money apparently not even mentioned again) is another asshole move. He keeps setting this obstacles for Rose-justifications as to why he'll eventually dump her. He doesn't care about the money; it's simply being used as an exit route if he needs it.
-
I bet he was frustrated that it went against the script he'd written in his head. This is not the way the fantasy goes! The bad breath thing is tough to know how to handle, but I found it telling that he 1) automatically assumed she didn't know to brush her teeth and 2) that he addressed it on camera. What did he get out of "outing" her breath to the world?

I went back and watched it and I haven't heard an amount mentioned at all. -
I hate the condescending way Ed talks about Rose to the camera. She grew up in the Philippines, dude, not as a feral child with Tarzan. He's awfully proud of himself for rescuing this poor little smelly princess, isn't he? At this point I hope her ulcer gives her loud, stinky farts and that she lets one rip every time she puts on one of his "gifts" and he gets near her. Methinks Ed already had that flight and resort booked. And come on, asshole, did you HAVE to confront her about her bad breath on camera? You LOOK like you smell bad... David: like it or not, she's going to see me. Alrighty then. If he'd just confronted "her" when she didn't show up at the train station, but nope! He didn't want to upset her. Much better to drive to a fighting zone and track her down in her Communist style apartment building at sunset... I'm slowly coming around to the idea of Lana simply being a bot. I can't with Yolanda. She's playing dumb and it's not funny or even interesting. Tom can wipe his ass with poison ivy for all I care. If you listen real closely in his scenes you can hear the soft panic of a famewhore realizing his golden goose is slipping away. And Darcey, if you're gonna sport the long-ass weave/extension can't you at least trim the ends? Cause right now we could throw an ankle-length blue jean skirt on you and you'd fit right in with every Pentacostal Holiness revival I've been dragged to. Mommy Usman, WHY?! We were rooting for you! 😭

David has never had an audio or video chat with Lana. He said this in his first episode. He gave a reason but I don't remember what it was. He has only ever chatted with her through the messenger on the website. At least Maria kept up pretenses by occasionally calling and sending videos.
