David and Lana: The Seven-Year Ditch
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
From the episode thread... Do you know if he has an ex or kids? He acts like he just got divorced, but if he's been "inlove" with Lana for 7 years, it isn't recent. Also, any idea what he did for work. He triggers easily so sales must be out. He's very comfortable navigating Ukraine. No hesitation driving in a war zone, finding candy store, cafes, finding a PI and requesting a tranlator from the hotel. Maybe there is an overlap with other women and his love obsession for Lana. Speaking of Lana, anyone think she knows her life in the US would be living out of an RV spending winters in packed RV parks in Arizona? No children, as far as I know, and no marriage in the past 30 years at least (probably never). He just retired from his government job as a computer programmer for Clark County. He was there 20+ years. His salary was good, more than $120,000 a year including bonuses, and he owns several investment properties. He may have investments in other things. He's frugal and I can believe he is a millionaire. The only thing he's blown money on, aside from Ukrainian dating, is classic cars. There are overlaps with Lana. He's been traveling back and forth to the Ukraine on "love tours" for 20 years. IMO he was not "exclusive" with Lana and only recently zeroed in on her. All those other times that he traveled there to meet her and she stood him up were probably trips to meet multiple women, not just her. -

I can answer some of these in David's couple thread, since we can't post spoilers here. -

I agree. Introducing him at her home, in a group setting and in controlled timing, is one thing. Vacation another. All ahe knew about Ed was from correspondence. I'd have been wary. -

Yes, and also Matt/Alla and David/Annie. But not all for the same reasons. I don't actually know Creepy David, never met him or interacted with him. Just his sister. It's not like I have a bunch of random reality TV friends. Until this show the only "star" I knew was one of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC MAKING THE TEAM). She was my daughter's dance/gymnastics coach until she, well, "made the team." -

Yes, I agree that's probably what happened. I was just trying to present an alternative theory. It wasn't a terrible idea leaving him behind. She really didn't know Ed that well, and I could understand wanting to spend more time with him before bringing my kid around. I think the alternative plan should've been to book an extra room and bring either Sister or Father Rose along. Prince is there, but they still have privacy. Either way, you KNOW Ed didn't want him to go. -

If baby love is a multimillionaire who doesn't care to flash his wallet then how come the future Mrs. Droopy Dog still lives as a shut in in abject poverty, barely scraping enough money together for food? /s -

For sure. Homegirl's gonna need a lot more than her little toe operated on to be considered attractive.

I've stayed in places like Rose's house as well as in worse. And I bitched and complained too-in private, to my friends. To my hosts I gritted my teeth, smiled, thanked them for their hospitality, and did my best to show gratitude. It wasn't just that Ed was uncomfortable, it was that he showed that to his hosts and was publicly critical when they were going out of their way to make him feel welcome with what little they had. -

Maybe Rose asked for Prince to stay behind so that he didn't appear much on camera. Perhaps she was trying to protect his privacy. In every other season parents have been criticized for having their kids on camera and around complete strangers. This time the parent did NOT do that and she was still criticized. That little vacation was not last minute. -

One sister and she's in the entertainment industry (music, mostly). My initial theory was that either he or she had a contact in the show (ie, producer friend) and he appeared as a favor for them. I thought most of his story was contrived or greatly embellished. Not anymore. I think his part is totally what we see. Lana's, on the other hand... -

Oh, he's gonna ride that victim train forever. I doubt he'll ever think he did anything wrong, just as the men just like him will continue to badmouth Rose and talk about her as though she's a lowlife prostitute who was only trying to trap the poor, helpless American looking for love. -

Have you all seen the photo of Lana where she's in the blue dress and leaning against the tree? She's clearly either photoshopped it or stuffed a pillow up the back because her bottom is big enough to seat a family of 4. It's Darcey-level shenanigans. I can't upload the picture, but you can see it here: https://images.app.goo.gl/cK3K919Mhu32gYAb9 -

I think for two people who are not native English speakers they both do a good job with the language. I kinda like listening to Usman speak. -

Nobody said anything like that. Obviously no one country loves children more than another, but some cultures and religions DO put importance on having large families with multiple children. There's a difference. -

I can't feel sorry for David at all. For one thing, he's just too stupid for me to take seriously. For another, under all that smug condescension he's eerily aggressive. I see him as an outdated Geoffrey. I'm real life friends with David's sister and was Facebook friends with both before the show filmed (I had no idea he was on it), but last night I unfriended him. He actually disturbed me in ways I can't vocalize. (Plus, he never posted anything interesting anyway.) -

I think originally it was going to be a cliffhanger. Then the Tell All was leaked and we all had found out about Lana so they edited into the episode since there was no reason to hide it. They just forgot to send the new version to some of the platforms. I think it's pretty obvious when you watch Pillow Talk because Tim and Veronica had to quicky film a new reaction and they look a little different from how they looked in the rest of the episode. -

I posted some links, either here or in David's thread, but I'm pretty sure they've all been removed. I'd keep watching for it on YouTube. It will show up again. I have it downloaded but I don't know how to share it. My internet is super slow, it takes me an hour to upload a 10-minute kitten video. I know I couldn't upload this monster. It took 5 hours to download it. -

Thanks. I used to belong to a lot of the groups and even ran a big one myself, but I dropped out of all of them. A lot of the people reminded me of Stephanie and the talks of her illness. I know I'm sick. I don't like the idea of it being my identity, though, and it was starting to feel that way. I have a few close friends with it and we support each other, but the online stuff just started bringing me down. I've had two strokes and a mild heart attack in the past 18 months, but although it sucks I really try not to let it dictate how I live. I still do what I love, just sometimes in modified ways. The teeth, though, are different. Because I love to eat... Speaking of Stephanie... I'm finding that outside of these YouTubers' channels, they don't seem to have much of a personality. Erika in real life appeared to be what Stephanie was trying to show online (fun, quirky, happy, etc). Yes. -

And do you know how hard it is to be toothless where I live? I want to run around with my hand outstretched saying, "Hi! I'm Mamadrama and I swear I'm not on meth!" 😁 -

I have vEDS, but I get a lot of the cross symptoms of the other types. My dental issues started all at once about two years ago. I literally woke up with a tooth on my pillow. It's complicated because the EDS has caused my lower jaw to become disjointed. I need to have the rest of my teeth pulled and dentures put in, but I can't until I have both jaws broken and reset first. I've been going around and around with insurance for a year. It's all very painful. -

You missed something real special if you didn't see the one of him in googly-eye glasses punching on his keyboard and doing a crass impersonation of Usman (including a badly faked Nigerian accent).
