  1. that's more a societal value thing rather then tech based one example i recall is the episode with the biker gang and the girl who inadververtly got her abusive boyfriend killed when he wore their gang colors without being part of the gang, there's a scene with mccoy and i think ross when they talk to adam and they say they would have results if they didn't have to keep coming back to tell him things, nowadays they could just call him easily on a cellphone another example is virus with the kid who hacked the medical place's computer system and accidently caused several people's death, nowadays the kid almost certainly wouldn't be able to hack it unless he was a super genius at it and the episode didn't indicate he was, he was decent but with privacy laws it'd be a near impossible task
  2. based off this one thread about plots on a long running drama show and plots of far past episodes that wouldn't work now due to technology advances what plots in L&O wouldn't really work now due to technology advances such as cellphones and computers or if they were written now how different would they be? I wonder if undercovered would still happen or if the parents could just try a gofundme for their kid if you were wondering about the thread, it was based off a semijoke idea where some teenager gets trapped in a hot car and nearly dies, people mentioned the problems with it even 3 years ago, i.e. the teen would almost certainly have a phone and could just call for help or just break the glass to escape unless it was an armored car
  3. https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/dick-wolf-premiere-week-law-order-revival-1235081573/ some new news about the revival
  4. maybe i just dreamt it or sometimes my mind will mix faint memories together and create a completely random thing that never happened at all and when i rewatch or see the correct thing i am like wtf that didn't happen at all the way i "remembered", it's really weird and annoying and has caused issues in my life more then once
  5. content warning for this was this ever an episode in the show or in any of the spinoffs? I have a faint memory of a plot where there was some aids denial quack doctor who was treating someone who had the symptoms of hiv and the doctor was linked to several deaths from untreated hiv and aids, the detectives arrest the doctor and the da files several charges and has the one patient who was mislead by the doctor into think they did not have hiv and is then examined by a proper one and is told they have end stage aids and they do persuade the patient that aids is real later at the courthouse the doctor is being arraigned and manages to get bail and is leaving when the patient approaches them and screams at the doctor that they killed them ,we see their wrists and palms are bloody and they cut their own neck and the patient with their dying energy smears their bloody hand across the doctor's face and says they hate them forever and then falls to the ground dead with blood everywhere, the court officers visibly recoil while this is happening and don't want to touch the person while the da people look in horror, we find out the patient had sharpened a piece of plastic and hid it on themselves somehow and brought it in I forget the rest of the episode except for this, the doctor is repeatedly told to see another doctor because of the risk of infection from the blood, the doctor of course refuses to, nevermind that even if hiv/aids didn't exist there is all sorts of other blood borne illnesses
  6. agreed what a vile lady she was, hope she did the max you ever wonder why l&O for the most part didn't really get into personal lives but svu was/is notorious for it, i.e. stablers kids, any thing to do with Rollins and Olivia my thought for svu was maybe because of the vile nature of most of the crimes they dealt with they wanted to show a bit of humanity with the main characters as a sort of breather for viewers aside from perps being caught and dealt with
  7. here's a fun question based off some of our and others discussions, do you think you could ever be a prosecutor why or why not? for me i know i couldn't be one, i have too many personal issues that would cause too many issues with dealing with cases
  8. reminds me of two things similar to this from the og powerpuff girls episode town and out which is infamous in the fandom, the girls were chasing bank robbers and blew up a bridge to stop them Citiesville Mayor: (quietly, sternly) Let me tell you some words. At what point did it seem like a good idea to blow up the Cityville Bridge? Blossom: Uh… Citiesville Mayor: No! Do you realize the two crooks that you caught stole approximately four hundred dollars? (with intensifying rage) Do you realize that you did over three MILLION DOLLARS IN PROPERTY DAMAGE TO THAT BRIDGE?!?! Citiesville Mayor: IT’S NOT REPLACEABLE! Also, that bridge is — or was — a historical landmark. I mean, it’s on our flag, for Pete’s sake! It’s also the main thoroughfare into the city! (dropping flag) Nobody actually lives in Citiesville! (sobbing) They commute! from tv tropes Real Life, such things as "Good Samaritan" Laws exist to help people prevent from getting sued if they have to help with an emergency — but only within reason. Not getting sued if you hurt someone while applying the Heimlich Maneuver is "within reason". Demolishing five city blocks while pursuing a criminal as a vigilante is not. And also needs be said — Good Samaritan Laws don't force you to help.
  9. from a wikipedia entry in his tie-in book Law & Order: Crime Scenes, Dick Wolf wrote that his intention for the character was that Lewin found herself disenchanted with the position of D.A., and opted not to run for election following her interim term. makes sense for her character also meant to say this as a joke when it was announced earlier, never got around to it plot twist nora and serena will return as the starring roles for law and order for the defense
  10. kinda meh to me, i disliked them making henry a rapist, i liked it far better when he was just a creepy evil psychopath, it showed that svu can do interesting stories that don't involve rape or sexual assault and there's more ways to show evil then that or domestic violence also when i first read the upcoming descriptions i thought it might be more like the episode mad dog on the original series, the svu unit is at his release hearing and tries to argue against it also the rollins bit and ending was stupid as hell not to mention illegal but that seems to be the norm with her in general
  11. from tv tropes ymmv about that unintentionally sympathetic Arnette Fenady from "Nurture". Yes, she kidnapped one of her students, misled the cops, didn't report the kid's continued abuse, and hid her in a basement. Yes, it's also true she's got several screws loose and is blatantly looking for a Replacement Goldfish because she never got over the loss of her own child. But once the girl's self-absorbed asshole of a foster mother ("So I left her home alone all night, let my boyfriend beat her up, and forced her to walk through a bad part of town to do all our laundry. So what?") expressed a complete disregard for her, and the apathetic Department of Child Disservices administrator testified that they didn't intervene after the school reported her abuse because the kid wasn't beaten and neglected enough compared to others in their system? Well, Fenday looks more a Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!, even if she does have multiple loose screws. Schiff lampshades this several times in the episode. It isn't a surprise that she's found Not Guilty of all charges. not my pov but interesting one eerie possibly with how awful the foster care and people were, wendy decides she would rather be crystal then be her old self with all the horrors she endured and wants to forget about her past i know a few cases where something like that has happened irl, people who went through a trauma start emulating someone else so they can try to be someone other then their old self one very disturbing thing from reddit I worked in the dental clinic of a psychiatric hospital for a bit and I'll never forget a patient named Terry. Terry loved to wear little girls clothing and would have pictures of little girls that he had cut out of magazines on a string around his neck. When I first encountered him I automatically made the assumption that he was some sort of paedophile. I later learned from the dentist I had worked with that Terry had witnessed his little sister being brutally raped and murdered by their step father when they were children. He had in a way started to assume the identity of his little sister and he considered the girls in the pictures he cut out his friends. I felt horrible for jumping to conclusions, especially after I got to know him more and saw what a gentle, kind soul he was.
  12. since the kid from born psychopath is returning, had a thought, would you also want stuckey to return as well? maybe in the same episode then it'd be a shameless reunion from what i understand jokes aside any other episodes you would want to see a follow up for?
  13. had a question based off how svu is getting a followup episode to born psychopath, if l&o had more seasons or whatever, what past cases do you think would be good for followups? indifference and fixed were one example i think a follow up of the guy who killed max might be interesting, like he is up for parole, maybe it could cover the mafia trying to get him free or as an interesting twist unlike mad dog, the guy really did have a change of heart and remorse, might be interesting to cover that also also killerz is another obvious choice
  14. the title alone makes me dread the episode, like rickroll was a thing way back in the late 2000s wow they need to stop trying to be up to date with todays lingo and things, the show is not about memes or fads or whatever, it's about solving sex crimes, their attempts to try and be relevant and hip are just pathetic, i have seen different trying to be relevant and hip from justin bieber, taylor swift and kanye west that weren't as pathetic(which is really saying something) and their fake ass poser attempts to put covid and blm into the show is beyond pathetic, like it's clear they don't care about blm and are just trying to get brownie points, why ice t has not left is beyond me sums up the patheticness of svu in a nutshell
  15. wow probably the best and most creative thing i have seen for the show in a long time, nicely done
  16. with the recent blm in the news , police violence and the George Floyd verdict, i was reminded of the episode mushrooms which had an early appearance of Epatha in it i remember how there was a scene when they were interrogating a teen with his mom present and when the kid refuses to talk the mother gets mad and slaps him fullforce in the face saying " you think you can play this fool game with me" notably logan and max do not really react or object to it at all, in fact earlier in the episode when they were questioning a teen without a parent, logan actually dope slaps the kid in the back of the head, not like the mom did but still.. it's a contrast to the slave episode where the one black father slaps his son not wanting him to get in trouble and then van buren reprimands curtis for not stopping it sooner what's your thoughts on how the original law and order handled matters of race with black people and the police also i recall how some people here disliked curtis in the slave episode for not stopping the father but notably i never heard any complaints with the mom in mushrooms who slapped her kid with a slap that would put bow from paper mario to shame was wondering why people didn't object to that while they did object to curtis in slave
  17. heh with that episode and the lady everyone hates, i am reminded of a thing i saw on tv tropes Hilarious in Hindsight: In season 2, episode "The Wages of Love", the Victim of the Week was a Mr. Edward Cullen. just for fun, anyone ever watch or read the twilight series? I read the books once just to see what the hype was about, was very meh about the series in general, nothing that good or interesting to me also just for fun for anyone who did read or watch the twilight series, say that lady in wages of love really did kill edward and bella cullen, would you have found her more sympathetic or at least not as annoying? also if she was a vampire she might instead say they were married for 250 years instead
  18. https://www.givememyremote.com/remote/2021/03/31/law-and-order-svu-born-psychopath-sequel/ not sure if this is an april fools joke, granted the article says it's from yesterday but it was posted really late and i just wonder about the time zones if it was april 1st when it was posted
  19. enjoyed the episode myself i think though jack's daughter was seen in the episode where some hitman was attacking lawyers and had jack on his kill list, don't remember the name but i know fontana and green were partners then
  20. this has been posted on reddit several times and i thought it'd be interesting to get people's pov here what was your thoughts on carmichael's treatment of the girl in punk? a fair amount of people on reddit really objected to how she acted towards the girl who had the guy killed for me i am not sure myself but here's a few interesting things from reddit and tvtropes(not mine) Wow, Carmichael really has it in for that girl. She committed a minor offence that would not normally see time but was put away because Carmichael suspected she knew more and was holding back. As a result, the poor girl ended up being in situations beyond her control that she never would have been in otherwise and her life got further screwed up. Instead of acknowledging any of this Carmichael doubles down on insisting she is bad and deserves to be in prison. She doesn’t even bother to learn the how or why of the further offences she committed in prison. McCoy’s invitation for her to cross examine the girl is basically so she can be confronted by the context and extenuating circumstances that she refused to listen to before. In the end it’s the girls reaction on cross to being raped that gets to Carmichael and makes her give some leeway but I kinda wish she would have eased up just from realising she had been wrong about the girl without her reaction to being raped as the reason. Also that prison is seriously messed up from tv tropes about the girl on punk Alice Simonelli from "Punk". She wouldn't stop screaming that Abbie Carmichael framed her for drug possession, even though her story for what happened that night was ridiculous. She killed a prison guard who was raping her and kept her under his thumb by threatening to send her to another prison, which actually would have solved her problem and gotten her away from her abuser, but she said she couldn't let it happen because the other prison was too far away from her daughter. Except, she was previously up for a work-release program which would have allowed her to be with her daughter again, but was removed from the program when she was caught smoking marijuana. So to recap, spending time with her daughter was so important that she was willing to kill for her, she just wasn't willing to stop doing drugs for her. It is interesting to see another perspective but I wouldn’t say it’s an entirely accurate one. Her motive for killing the guard was because, in addition to raping her repeatedly, he had another guard track down and approach her daughter at a park as a way to threaten her after she tried to get him to stop. She didn’t have him killed to spend time with her daughter, she had him killed because he was threatening both herself and her daughter. She was arrested for allegedly driving a guy to a drug deal, he took off and she was left with a car that had small amount of drugs in it and money with cocaine residue on it in her pocket. Her story was she was just giving the guy a lift, didn’t know his name, and he gave her the money for gas. It’s unlikely but I wouldn’t say it was ridiculous. She does yell at Carmichael that she ruined her life a lot but it’s not constant and in half the time Carmichael is saying sarcastic judgemental stuff to provoke her. Carmichael is the one who decided to give her jail time for a first time/minor offence because she said she didn’t know the other guys name. Given she’s just spent the past few months being raped and sexually abused in prison I see why she wouldn't be happy to see Carmichael reappear and act all judgemental. Sorry didn’t mean to write so much I just fell into essay writing mode. I love exploring tvtropes though I’ve tried to avoid looking up the law and order pages except for the recaps on episodes I already watched. Am I right in thinking it’s from a ymmv page? so what are your thoughts?
  21. don't remember it off hand sadly
  22. heh i was just remembering that today and was debating making a post related to it what are your favourite really minor characters in the show's history, like not perps or victims or the police or da people but just really minor one off characters one amusing one was back with logan and his partner, they need pictures that a guy developed and then logan has to pay for it as money is tight for the owner, not sure why but it was amusing to me
  23. maybe the prosecutors were trying the old saying, throw some stuff at the wall and see what sticks, just a thought
  24. interesting viewpoint i always wondered if she more wanted the family to stick together because of her little brother more then the parents themselves I think jack and serena since the parents were a tough sell started to wonder if the daughter did since there were a few vague hints, like the daughter finding the mom in the tub and her earlier being protective of the brother, just a theory agreed about the victim, even if she was a golddigger and different statements from people in the episode seem to suggest she was, that does not make it okay for the daughter to kill her one thing i always thought would be hilarious is if it went to trial her lawyer attempted to argue an eed for the daughter but the lawyer's argument is the parents toxicity and fighting caused it ironically, not the lady she killed not sure though the parents would go for that defense since that would make them look really bad in court (though they already did that themselves), maybe the mom might go for it since when she was confessing, the mom said not to throw her life away another idea i had partially based off the episode who's monkey is it, the little brother actually takes a bus to the da's office during the day and tries to give an impassioned plea for his sister to the da's office, they then call in the parents to get the kid and discuss a deal, the daughter managed to get bail and comes with them, the parents are furious at the son but then jack snaps at the parents to shut up and that the youngest one in the family is the most mature ironically, he offers man 1 which the parents object to but the daughter wants to take the deal, the parents start to fight with each other again and the daughters snaps at them saying she'd rather be in jail then live with them anymore and that they have killed any part of her which cared about them anymore or cared about wanting to keep the family together which finally makes the parents be quiet as they realize what their fighting has caused the daughter then takes the deal and jack or serena or nora make a quip how the youngest was the only one who really cared about the family and was the most mature in a fighting family
  25. heh who knew that jerry was a cop in a little gnown film called A Gnome Named Gnorm (1990) also called upworld https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMMGl8hMuGc&feature=youtu.be
