Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
KittyMom4 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
I keep my phone on silent 24/7. I hate the tapping, hate the ring tones, I just keep mine on vibrate. My daughter used to use the setting where her phone would flash when she got text or phone call, now that was obnoxious!! -
Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

@Kitty Redstone I do the same thing when I get bored but I'm trying to condition myself to not use social media as my go-to. It was worse during the holidays seeing everyone's beautiful decorations, wonderful family events and delicious meals. Meanwhile I can't decorate the way I want to because I downsized a couple years ago and don't have the room, I was dreading my family gathering because my brother is an asshole, and it's just me and my husband so I don't cook the big meals for everyone (again, can't host because my house is too small). I had some rough nights feeling sorry for myself. Vowing that 2023 will be less social media, more doing what I enjoy and not comparing. -

I used to feel the same way viewing FB, Insta, TikTok, whatever, until I figured out how phony most of that stuff is. Don't compare yourself and don't feel you aren't enough if you don't have what they have. You do you. I tend to think people who constantly tell you how great their life is are hiding quite a bit. Just my thoughts. -

Ugh, when I bite into a sandwich and a whole lettuce leaf comes out and dangles off my lip while I quickly try to either pull it and drop it on my plate or shove it in my mouth. And it always happens as someone is walking by my desk. Smh. -

You are so right, back in my day (lol!), when I called my children's pediatrician I would get an answering service that would take the information and forward it on to the on-call Dr who would then call me back. I think with the prevalence of Urgent Cares all over the place they no longer utilize these types of services though. Heck, just 2 weeks ago I sat in an Urgent Care facility for 2 hours to get treated for conjunctivitis (lucky me!) and it never crossed my mind to call my doctor's office. -

Annoying Peeve: Looooonnng phone greetings on doctor's offices & business answering machines. Calling in a prescription last week I had to wait through a long message about getting your flu shot before I could hear my options. Today I had to call our payroll department and got a long message about when our W-2's would be sent out (not what I was calling about). Also, any greeting that starts out "Please listen carefully as our menu options have changed" when nothing has actually changed, I get this from my Gyn's office. It's been the exact same for years. -

I know right? I don't fault anyone who wants to spend and has the money to spend, I feel bad for parents/couples who cannot afford and/or feel forced to spend to impress others. Again, until the Happy Couples start to say no to the wedding industry bullshit it will continue. As a guest, if I was told I had to wear a certain color, or travel to some exotic location in order to attend, I would be sending my regrets. -

This so much. The wedding industry has become so overblown and overpriced but until Brides & Grooms say enough is enough it will continue. An acquaintance of mine has a daughter planning a wedding, one of the venues she looked at wanted $50,000 for a basic food offering and cash bar. Are you kidding me? My youngest is still single but I told her that she will get a set cash gift from me, in the 4 figure range, and that's it. Such a waste of money for one day. LOL, I look at ND whenever I need a good laugh. The amount of pearl clutching and fear mongering is ridiculous. Some people just do not have enough to do. -

@EtheltoTillie I don't feel you did anything wrong and don't want to make you feel bad for asking so please don't take it that way. These two responses were what I was thinking; sanitary reasons and many people now use apple pay or tap-and-go cards to pay, even when I pay cash I just throw the change in my pocket real quick, heck, I've dumped it in my purse if I don't have pockets, and I take care of it later. I do not think the manager handled it well however. He could have just explained that for sanitary reasons the cashier is not allowed to touch it. -
Let me tell you a story or two on this matter. High-level man in my company cheated on his beautiful wife with her friend who was 10 years younger. Left his wife and married the friend, FF 20+ years and he leaves that woman for one of her acquaintances, 20 years younger.... My best friend's dad had an affair and left his marriage of 20 years for his wife's best friend. He never married the gf but he ended up leaving her 15 years later for another woman. My point is this: If Betty had just shut up, put up and moved on, she could be having the last laugh right now but instead her narcissism and deadly need for revenge landed her in prison for the rest of her life. Sometimes waiting on karma to bitch-slap your ex and/or his new "luv" is the best revenge.
-
@Jeeves I am 100% with you. I lived in CA when this occurred and followed the whole case from start to finish. I remember thinking why didn't she just take her money and move on? The narcissism and nastiness she spewed made me actually feel bad for her cheating husband, and that is hard for me. I hope she breathes her last breath behind bars.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

This makes me angry as well, researching pet $$ needs prior to adoption/purchase is at your fingertips: Google it. My pet peeve on these NextDoor apps is when the same person is constantly asking for "help" but is really just looking for services provided for free. In my area there was a poster looking for someone to come rake their leaves for a "reasonable price" but then complained about people wanting to get paid to do it. Same person wanted someone to do some handyman tasks inside their home for a "reasonable price" and then after several people offered to help, complained about the quality of the work. Truth. Good for you @Wiendish Fitch, not only is pet ownership expensive and time-consuming for a normal pet, but if you get one like my cat who has to take blood pressure medication daily, or a previous cat who was diabetic and needed insulin shots you can be spending a whole lot of money. Our dog (who sadly passed this past spring) had anxiety issues and did not like to be left alone, and would destroy furniture, doors and carpets when he was. Towards the end of his 16 years he began losing his bowels in the house while we were gone. Pet ownership is for life, and for everything that the pet brings with it, good or bad. RESEARCH BEFORE YOU ADOPT. -

You wouldn't even believe what an asshole my bro is, he looks for things to be pissed off about at every family event so he can cause a scene and have my mom cater to whatever demand he has at the time. Heading to the Family, the good the bad the ugly forum now..... -

I feel your pain, albeit in a slightly different context. My oldest daughter was given a nickname in high school based on her initials, and while I don't mind the nickname and don't care that her husband and 90% of her friends call her that name, I still refer to her by her given name. Her husband made a point to tell me one day that I am the ONLY one who refers to her that way as if that was a bad thing. I reminded him that I was there when she was born, back labor and all, and the name I put on her birth certificate is the name I will continue to use. -

I've dealt with 3 different types of mail delivery. Growing up in a small, rural town, there was no mail delivery, you had to go to the tiny post office where you had a combination lock box to retrieve your mail from. When I moved to my next home in a new, larger suburb, we had a mailbox at the end of our driveway where the mail person would just drive up and stick in the box. I have now moved to an older, larger suburb where our mail can be* delivered to our door by a walking mail person. *Can be but because our driveway is very long, we opted to have a mailbox installed at the end of the driveway to save our mail person some time. My family had an unofficial under 18 years of age rule for the grandkids/nieces/nephews. As adults my siblings and I do not exchange gifts since none of us needs anything and well, because my brother is an a$$hole and refused to purchase gifts for anyone but expected to be handed a pile when he walked through the door. -

My boss who is the CEO of our company is a female, and you would be shocked at how many business correspondences still use "Dear Sir" instead of "Dear Sir or Madam". Even customers who write "Mr. So-and-So, CEO" even though my boss' name is a female name. It's 2022, not 1920!!! Yep, yep, yep. I was on them 7 or so years ago, disgusting. I have a friend who is trying them out. She told me that with in 48 hours she'd been more sexually harassed and seen more unwanted penis than she ever did when we were in the USMC. -

@Elizabeth Anne I am 55 and I will hold on to middle age for as long as I can as well. The perception of being old after 35, for women anyway, sucks, I get it. You can be relevant to the younger generations without trying to look like them (because in the end you just look goofy). I mentioned Dolly knowing she's had work done but it's her spunk and fun demeanor that continues to keep her in the spotlight. Madonna was/is an icon, but what she's done to her face makes her a spectacle and not in a good way, just my opinion. Same here. -

Thank you for saying this. I was a huge Madonna fan, not only for her music but for her I-don't-give-a-fuck-about-convention attitude. I admired her for being able to reinvent herself with each project and her business acumen was off the charts. She knew what would sell. Sadly now I just see an old woman trying to be relevant to the teens and 20 year olds. Why? A 60 year old woman full of botox, fillers and plastic surgery and using filters to make herself look 30 years younger just makes her look pathetic and sad. Why couldn't she have just kept producing great music and collaborate with younger artists like Dolly has done? I have no problem with women and men who use surgery and injections to minimally fix some aging signs, but Madonna has lost her mind if she thinks what she has done in anyway makes her younger looking or even attractive. She looks like a kook. -
She seemed stoned in the courtroom too!! Did anyone else think her repeated "I was driving without my mother's permission" was something she and her idiot mother cooked up to say so that the Plaintiff couldn't go after the homeowner's insurance? No matter, that dimbulb is a menace to society!! That cat-napping/murdering bitch is a scammer through and through, but the Plaintiff was dumb as dumb can be. Who the hell meets someone ONLINE and lets them move in after a few months??? He sure sees the error of his ways now and I'll bet he is more cautious in the future, but he is not blameless in his poor kitty's death. Anyone who has helpless pets and children and exposes them UNSUPERVISED to unvetted strangers is an asshole in my book.

My daughter is a huge Uggs wearer, I think they are the most uncomfortable footwear I've ever worn. Too hot, too flat, no traction, everything the article pointed out. That's what my sister does, on speaker by the cutting board, next to the dishwasher, on top of the washing machine. All I hear is 'chop chop chop, rustle rustle rustle, clank, clunk, chang-chang, rustle, slam, bam.....' -

Seconding this. For me it's my sister's habit of doing dishes, prepping dinner, loading the washer, whatever she is doing at the time that makes a shit-ton of noise while she's talking. It is so distracting! There have been times where I've said "why don't you call me back when you're finished" and she gets offended. -
Me too, it was very difficult for me to watch and if it were me I would have been screaming for someone to cut me out. I thought the best way to make it through would have been to begin rolling as soon as I could before it got too narrow. I also think either Jeannine or Noelle rolled the wrong way, I couldn't tell them apart with all the mud. I was wondering why she didn't take her prosthetic off prior to crawling in the net and throw it to Sammi to hold. I would have thought she'd have better leverage without it.
