That IS what is meant, but that's not what people hear when they hear "defund the police". That is a horrible slogan because it does not communicate what is actually being proposed. I wish there was a decent marketing person in the room when that particular slogan came up.
-
The thing about militarizing the police is that armies at war have clear enemies. You treat every person you encounter with suspicion because you don't know who the "bad guys" are. Policing is supposed to be about protecting a community. In that case you are supposed to know who the residents are, who owns the businesses, the principals at the schools, and the local elected officials that can be called on to assist folks with issues beyond law enforcement. Police believe themselves to be an "army" some of which is the result of good marketing and propaganda pushed out by defense contractors, but that isn't fundamentally what police should be doing. It's the thing that frustrates me about "defund the police". It should actually be "police for policing" and activities that are not the primary function of police should be left to (and funded for) subject matter experts - whether animal control, mental health interventions, truancy or social work.

Mary is like a broken clock this season. Thus far she's useless most of the time, but twice a day she is spot on. This episode: She's not the sharpest knife. She's not even the sharpest spoon. Why do we care? It's like watching a savant in action... -

Tamara is harping on Shannon to deflect from her own abuse of alcohol. I'm not buying her "I'd stop drinking if I drove into a building" drivel for a moment. She's seen herself be a drunken mess on tv and it hasn't caused her to stop. She's horrible. It sounds like it's more than "crap". She was afraid the ex would physically harm them if she stayed. It's not the same as "your ex is talking shit about me on the blogs". The divorce is not "finished" because the ex doesn't want it over. She's making Travis' relationship with Gina a central part of the divorce proceeding. Gina is aware of that, which is why she feels bad, but she also knows she wants her kids protected from the crazy. I wish he would just come out an say "I'm a bookie", I mean, we all know what he does... -

Chris has been making cooking videos and posting on a you tube channel for a while now. Besides that he's got a self-published cookbook and he's selling his own line of spices. I wouldn't call him someone without hustle, but he's certainly not focused on working for someone else. His online story is that he's focusing on being a personal chef and cooking full-time. I'm also going to say that he does not seem to be a bad dad or have any stories about being a "bad guy" so I'm going to suggest that if Candiace likes it, I love it. -

My takeaway from this season is that Shannon is an alcoholic who grew up in a family of alcoholics and therefore is unable to comprehend that 1) her behavior is abnormal/problematic and 2) that she actually needs help. Her commentary in the episode with her father cemented that for me and I don't think she's going to come around unless her kids stage a complete intervention. I also think she needs to be off the show for her own sake, but as it seems that this is her primary source of income, that doesn't appear to be likely. -

If you believe Gina's account, because Travis' ex was triggered by the kids being around her. I think it's reflected in the fact that she moved down the block and her kids spend plenty of time there, that the issue was never about wanting to get away from Travis. I don't know if his position that Gina should have stuck it out, is for the show only or if he really isn't worried about what the ex could or would say or do. I think Ace is trans and Max is somewhere else on the LGBTQ+ spectrum (my recollection was Heather said three of her kids were LGBTQ+). -

But this isn't correct. Luis didn't say he hired someone to defend himself against this ex, he said outright that he hired someone to investigate all of the members of the cast. At no point either when he said it originally or when he walked it back on the reunion, was the discussion around "he was hired to investigate my ex, and learned she had been talking with cast". You keep making assertions about what his intent was, but I'm simply going by what he actually SAID. -

I have to call bullshit on this one. The only reason this was said by anyone was that Luis said it first. Then he bragged about it, and it made its way back to Margaret and Melissa. It wasn't a baseless accusation. He said he did it, then said he didn't do it and he was just talking shit because he was angry. That was self-inflicted wound. -

You can't get past the initial claim. Assuming that you are completely correct, and the initial claim is a lie, does that explain or excuse Luis' reaction? I don't think it does. Especially as he's lashing out against A STRANGER. I get that in this day and age, talking shit to and about people anonymously is a thing, but I find it hard to give him a pass when if I take him entirely at his word, and assume everything he says is true: someone told a lie about him, he went on television and said it was not true, then he got shit for it on the internet, and he decides that the one person in this whole story who has never actually said anything about him should die. As between the guy who chose to be on tv and the (non-famous) person who is being used to advance a storyline, my sympathy is with Marge's son (and not just because of who his mom is). -

If he didn't do it and has no connection I'd expect his response to be "I don't know what you're talking about. I've never spoken to him." When the reaction (a year later) instead is "I wish death on her son", you've got to wonder if the guy is a few bricks shy of a full load. He's wishing harm to someone who he's never met, has no contact with, and has no reason to hate other than the fact that he shares DNA with someone Luis thinks is an enemy. That's not exactly normal behavior.- 172 replies

Rlb8031 replied to ZettaK's topic in The Real Housewives Of New Jersey
His words about Margaret - possibly His words about a man who literally has never publicly said a word about him - doubtful. This particular franchise is a glass house where no one can throw stones. Tre referred to her brother as "bitch boy", talked about Evan's infidelity, has made numerous references to Margaret and Joe's infidelity (and to Rachel's point, what's wrong with being a plumber), has talked about Fuda's criminal past, etc. It looks like the only people she has never gone after are Nate, Pauly and Frank Sr. So, in my estimation, all of the Luis stuff is simple tit-for-tat. Literally, Delores and Jen Fessler are the only ones whose significant others have been unscathed, and even Pauly and Dr. David had to withstand the scrutiny of "when is he going to propose". Talking about husbands is part and parcel of this franchise. Nate hit the nail on the head when he pointed out that Bill may be very aware of his wife's negative traits which are why he's "working 100 hours a week and sleeping in the pool house". I also wish that Danielle was better at talking through why Jen's point about the charity donation is so ridiculous. Jen very clearly said that Bill was a millionaire (but just a single million). Stating that if you can't afford to throw a charity event the way she does (I pay for everything, and nothing is budgeted as an expense against the event) you shouldn't be throwing one essentially is "you're too poor to do something for others". The charity got the benefit of $25k it would not have otherwise had. The fact it's not $30k because the event had expenses should never be presented as a negative. I bet whatever non-profit it was happily received every dollar raised.- 172 replies

I honestly don't get why Luis has a hard-on for Margaret's son. He's been on the show one time, maybe, in a season where Luis was not a cast member. As far as I can tell her kids don't comment or talk to the press or bloggers about the show. So why 1) reach out to him and 2) wish death on him on national television? It's OTT, but then again, so much about Luis is. My husband also pointed out the huge irony of him literally wishing death on his enemies as he sat there in a "Transcend" t-shirt. On a separate note, I wonder if he's on something. When they showed the flashbacks of him picking up Tre for one of their early dates, he was visibly calm and very relaxed. As the flashbacks went on, he developed the visible redness that he now has (which doesn't appear to be a side effect of bad tanning beds) and an almost manic affect anytime he's on camera. Coke maybe?- 172 replies

This doesn't answer the question though since Heather said the two youngest were in school in LA. Are they sharing a bedroom in the penthouse? Sleeping in a portion of the mansion while the rest is being renovated, or commuting daily from the OC to LA? Balboa Bay I thought was for Terry's convenience, not a family home.

I assume that Joe saw and knew exactly how fast anaphylaxis can progress. Many people don't recognize the signs early on or realize that swelling can progress in just minutes. Production usually has a medic on staff when shooting, just in case someone has an injury. My guess is that production wanted their medic to check the person first and assess whether or not they needed to call. I would also imagine that person had an epi-pen. Maybe they called because Fuda refused it? -

I'm going to start by saying that I'm Gen X as well. While I feel you on the use of the terminology, I do think that there is a behavior that Luis exhibits which is problematic. He says and does some really ODD things. Then when someone calls him on it, or points out its strange, he doesn't say "Yeah, but that's how Teresa and I roll", instead he says he misspoke or that people misunderstood what he said. The two times that immediately come to mind are the comment he made to Joe G about sleeping in his father's pajamas and the discussion in the kitchen of his house about hiring Bo Dietl to investigate everyone. In both cases, he was absolutely clear and unambiguous in what he was saying - that he wore Joe's dad's pajamas to make the girls feel safer and that he had hired a private investigator to look into the rest of the cast and dig up dirt on them. It was only after the backlash from the public that he attempted to walk those statements back (and both times only at the reunion) with explanations that were essentially "that wasn't what I was intending to say". I don't opine on the relationship between Tre and Lou because, as you said, if she likes it, I love it - but I do believe that Luis is not genuine in his actions toward others not named Teresa and he appears to be trying to manipulate others to some end that still remains unclear. With the other bad husbands on the show, you noted (Apollo, Juan, Michael, Brooks) there was a sense that each man was being his authentic self, even if that self was a lying, cheating, stealing no-goodnick who was not being honest with their spouse. Luis on the other hands seems like he's playing a role (badly) 100% of the time. -

I'm not going to punish Gina for this. Having such a horrible experience in such a public way isn't the best environment for making snap decisions. She had to balance wanting the legal process to occur with her need to keep her kids' lives from being completely upended. My recollection was that the season was filming at the time that incident occurred. Gina only gets paid during the season, so having her ex working during the off-season may have been of critical importance so that her kids were cared for. At the time she didn't have a career path or know how she was going to support her family, which might explain a decision made out of fear. In a perfect world, you'd want every woman to be able to NOT have to choose her family's short-term survival over taking that moral stand, but in practice, not every woman feels like they can do that. I'm happy that it all worked out for her, and I don't think she should be shamed for not having full and complete faith that she could figure a way out.- 205 replies

On WWHL, Melissa said that multiple ex's of Louie's have reaching out to the cast to share dirt on Louie. She was pretty clear that if someone wanted to listen, it wasn't difficult and that the ex's were reaching out to the entire cast. That was in response to a question Andy asked directly about whether Margaret was wrong for talking with the ex. It also sounded like the Louis/Bo Dietl thing was retaliation for having had that conversation. So Louis got back at anyone who was rumored to have spoken to them. I wonder if that was why Tre went so hard after Evan - was it retaliation for Jackie talking to an ex? -

I live in a house full of men (even the pets are male 😜) and I'm telling you there is absolutely nothing normal about Luis' male bonding hangouts/rituals/etc. "Let's make devotionals to the women we love"? No, no, nope, non, nyet. Normal guys don't do that. Not to say that Joe G's antics are any more normal, but he's at least got the behavior of a teenaged boy. Luis seems like he's spent a little time in a cult or cult-like community. His approach to other humans is just a bit off and there is too much therapy-speak mumbo-jumbo for me to take him seriously. He strikes me as being someone who 1) thinks he's smarter than he is; 2) continues to try to present an image which he is wholly unfamiliar with and 3) is focused on how others see him which results in all his behavior being performative. I haven't seen a single interaction where he comes across as genuine and his treatment of Teresa (remember when he threatened to leave Joe's G's shore house if she kept talking) isn't nearly as love-bubbly as he makes it out to be. If Theresa were brighter, she'd pick up on things, but she just wants a man who is going to yes her to death, so Luis is perfect for her. -

Many years ago, my then best-friend moved from NY to LA for a career change. She was introduced to a young lady who was friends with another close friend of ours as someone who could "show her the ropes in LA - where to eat, where to hang, etc". Several months after the move I went to visit, and we hung out with the "show you the ropes" girl. I asked what she did for a living and the woman said that she wasn't working but was hoping to get into the industry as an on-air personality. As we talked more it came out that she was in her late-30's with a 10-year-old child - AND SHE HAD NEVER HELD A FULL TIME JOB! Evidently her parents were in the entertainment industry and supported her - paid her rent, bought her car, etc. She had a college degree and had worked the equivalent of gig work occasionally (modeling or as an extra), but she hadn't ever been employed by anyone. I was so confused - I kept asking "but what do you do all day"? I came to find out, that her circumstances weren't that unusual in LA for upper middle class and wealthy families. She said she had a lot of friends that did the same thing - just sort of existed doing whatever they wanted while someone else paid all the bills. It was mindboggling...- 205 replies
