  1. Alexei is high-up in agriculture. It's part of the whole wheat storyline.
  2. When she left, I assumed her story was over and we wouldn't see her again. The plot was finished. And it was time. But now that we have seen her, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't one more payoff the writers have in mind. (What, I can't imagine. And I agree it's not likely to intersect with other characters.) Why bring her back if there isn't a purpose?
  3. So glad I happen to see a new ep coming in and checked here! My season pass was only set up to keep 5 at a time, so I would have lost many of them. I had no idea the season was even starting, much less taking place over 3 days. Whew!
  4. Ha, I rode to Grad Night on a bus from TUCSON! It was 1991, and C&C Music Factory headlined. ? Also, your mom did them a favor. Blackstreet > Backstreet every day, twice on Sundays. This.
  5. Yeah, I didn't warm up to Paul as a judge -- the persona he puts on there rubs me the wrong way. (It's the Tom Colicchio sniff-and-sneer, trying make the contestants doubt themselves and I hate that.). In Masterclass he's great! so much more relaxed and warm and light. His passion really comes through. Glad to have caught a few of these on PBS and in the depths of summer when there's nothing else on I'll watch the rest online.
  6. I've recorded "XCV" twice now and gotten Rick & Morty both times. #$@&%!. I set it up to record three more airings tomorrow. One of them is bound to work. Right? RIGHT?
  7. Aku putting on his flaming eyebrows, then going to (self) therapy to talk about his angst? I died.
  8. I about fell over when I saw Ming Na and rewound the scene to call my friend over to see -- I wanted corroboration to prove I wasn't imagining it. Agent May as as an 80s drunk chick! The cameo was so random I figured I was supposed to know others in the scene, too, but I didn't.
  9. I didn't guess it was the bad place, but it was clear everything was not as it seemed. For me, it was the soulmates system that made zero sense. And the scoring system, too. But like you said it could have been just handwaved as exaggerated writing for comedy's sake. It feels so good to reveal these weren't just inconsistencies or lazy writing, all the "glitches" were actually in service of the plot. I'm impressed by how they built a scenario you could believe in while sowing the seeds of what was really going on.
  10. This is one of my pet peeves! You can't possibly be sure the judges are crazy / wrong / biased (or even right for that matter) because you didn't taste the food! It must be nice to be so confident that one's subjective, secondhand perception is the absolute truth. TV commenters have cured me of the belief that there could be a perfect kind of person who is likable to everyone. There are characters/contestants who are liked by most, but no one is universally loved / hated.
  11. The bald men I know do often wear hats to keep their heads warm even when it's not particularly cold. That kind of dark knit beanie is, where I live, something Black men commonly wear so I could handwave it as being in character for Murtaugh wanting to stay connected to his roots or youth or something. I don't recall hearing an on-screen explanation -- who knows if his character bible has this built in or if it's just a prop that a costumer or director liked. Riggs' hair and scruff is surely character-driven, though. It's a visual signal about how messed up he is and we'll know when he's doing better when he's less unkempt. Sometimes I find his hair silly and even ugly, but there are times I actually think it really works for him! A cleaner version of his shaggy curls would be sexy IMO.
  12. Tamales with cheese exist! Less common, but they're there. Often paired with a chile, sometimes corn or black bean. I know them from Mexico, not sure where all they can be found.
  13. I pulled up the scene. No, he is not shown asking that vendor about queso. He asks if it's a tamal, they say yes, tamal colado. In his TH he said he thought it looked like cheese. Maybe he thought it looked like a tamal with cheese? He has excellent vision if he can see through the leaf wrapper! I'm sympathetic in that it always sucks to have a disadvantage. But it's a competition show, there's always a case where you have one advantage or another (like, you've cooked geoduck or happen to specialize in whatever the challenge is). All's fair in love and war. Since he couldn't find cheese, he took a chance on the tamal. That didn't pan out. Ideally he should have also tried to find something else as a backup. (Whereas Brooke at the market said she was just buying everything to be safe.) Sheldon in this challenge and Brooke in the EC made tactical mistakes in not adapting to what was available.
  14. He did say "queso fresco?" a bunch of times. Just nobody had it. He was at a big disadvantage language-wise. What did surprise me is I heard them say "tamal" clearly about what he bought, and that's an easily recognizable word so not sure where his confusion was on that.
  15. What was so weird about that is I fully expected it to be a Blais fake-out, it seemed to be headed that way and then it didn't. (Or was edited out.) Because a cold soup without a protein is pretty much the opposite of "safe". It would have made more sense to push back on not "cooking", or going too simple, or not having a protein. But too safe? No.
  16. So glad John didn't listen to the brief. Really glad to see the back of him. Maybe the fix is in for Brooke, or maybe she's just that good. She almost won before and I have little problem believing she has honestly earned her spot at the top. Often they ding for lack of protein but there have been occasions when vegetarian fare has won, and the chew of the coconut and the fat of the avocado sound plausible to me as one of those times. I wholeheartedly like all three of the remaining chefs and will be happy with any of them. I don't think Shirley is fake/simpering. I don't think Brooke is entitled/superior. They all seem like great chefs and people I'd like IRL. Sheldon's my fav, though. I feel like his personality and POV are less common among Top Chefs.
  17. My expectations weren't high -- I'd heard good things but it's a kid's movie and, I don't know, LEGO in movie form? It was so much more awesome and hilarious than I ever could have imagined! I absolutely loved it and saved my recording for a rainy day rewatch. From an art direction POV, the way they used the legos to create rolling waves / steam / clouds is brilliant. I backed up a few times so I could see those effects again. The animation and visual style were very well conceived, it was a pleasure to look at. It felt completely true to LEGO while also making the best of animation. I do want to know how much it cost to license all those characters! Half the character universes were in there.
  18. Bedtime viewing this week has been Better Off Ted (a fantastic little show, highly recommended), and Malcolm Barrett is so adorkably fussy in it. I was willing to tune into Timeless basically for him.
  19. An entire season focused on courtship would bore me to tears (I'm also missing the swoon gene), but I think they could have spent 8 episodes on this period of time from ascension to marriage. A young queen, growing into her role, learning about her kingdom. I'd like to see much more world-building. As shown, she comes across as vacuous. We're getting very little sense of her point of view or duties as queen. Since they've set up Albert as her foil, perhaps now we'll get to some of that. (If so, maybe the fast pace will pay off.)
  20. No. They met several times before they became engaged. You will recall that Victoria has clearly met Albert before he appears on the show - when she sees him she remarks on how different he looks than the last time she saw him. (She reprimands Dash for barking at him, even if he does "look so much different" than the last time they met.) Right, but the OP was asking if they were engaged within 3 days of meeting again. V&A knew each other from childhood and were considered a match all along, but it had been awhile. Did they get engaged during on this one visit after having not seen each other in some years?
  21. "Now get in there and run that meeting like a shark driving an assault vehicle through a herd of seals wearing chum pants." I think Veronica is great because of what Portia di Rossi does with the character. Her delivery is so good.
  22. Was annoyed with Lucy in the scene with her Rittenhouse father. I get that she was emotional, but it really would have been a hell of a lot smarter to ask him some questions. She barked at him that she knew all about Rittenhouse when she really doesn't. (As he noted.) Why waste an opportunity to learn what they're up against? If you don't care about getting info for your team's sake, then at least do it for the viewers, Lucy!
  23. While that is possible, we do not know that is the case.
  24. Oh, Ernest had more than advice in mind when he took Albert there! But Albert didn't want to sample Gretchen's charms and asked for her to tell him what he needed to know instead. Ernest picking out "ein, zwei, drei" ladies for his evening was a wow moment. Dude lives large.
  25. So exciting! http://www.theverge.com/2017/2/6/14523268/samurai-jack-season-5-trailer-genndy-tartakovsky
