  1. Some little things: 1. When the body of President Warner was being brought into the hangar at Dover AFB, mountains were visible in the background, but Delaware is probably the flattest state in the US. 2. When the new presidents were having their private meeting (no staff, really?), birds were chirping in the background, which was weird. I guess the president could keep a pet bird in his office if he pleased, but, eh, not really seeing it.
  2. One of the things I really appreciate about this show is the realism of Sam's home. It's a little cluttered and messy, but that's to be expected when you have kids and the parent's job could mean very long days. (Plus she's sandwiched between kids and her own mother, who needs to be looked after a bit.) A lot of TV residences seem kind of sterile, but this house seems to have stuff in it that the family member likes and may have kept for sentimental reasons. And I like the cooking scenes--most shows at most show people eating but not how the food got on the table, and it can be a pleasure to cook. It looks like Sam enjoys it.
  3. I liked the multiple timelines for the contrast in how Randall and Kevin have changed over time: young Randall was so cute, but even as a middle-schooler he was acting superior, and he's been insufferable lately, while young Kevin could be a jerk who unironically loved bad movies, and he's turned out to be very kind and to have better taste in things than he used to.
  4. I read this thread before I watched the episode, so I was surprised that no one mentioned the best part, Gary's discussion of insurance with Colin (putting aside that it should be the substitute Colin).
  5. I've been skipping the recent episodes because they just seemed to be repackaging of segments from old shows, but I let my DVR record them just in case there was something different. I did FF through last night's, and I don't think the Jimmy Kimmel DNA connection to Martha Stewart was part of his original show, as I mentioned way back there. I think I would have remembered his modesty about it, because I've heard he's a pretty good cook.
  6. I thought that some scenes, like Carrie being chased by the Taliban and Max and group's mission, were pretty gripping. And a listening device under a fake rock is the spy stuff I eat up with a spoon. I miss things like that from the days of The Americans. I'll stick with this season, at least for now.
  7. Apparently, only white men watch the Super Bowl. It's crazy for someone to advertise during the most watched (by miles) TV show of the year. <rolleyes>
  8. It's not just having one high school kid (or now maybe two kids) making rum--they were sipping it and critiquing it. I love the bizarreness of Riverdale, but sometimes it's just too weird. However, I also wouldn't mind if someone created a TV series in which the adult characters were basically re-creating high school behavior, the flip side of this. Has there ever been one?
  9. It's coming back! https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/thirtysomething-sequel-original-cast-gets-abc-pilot-pickup-1268058
  10. When Sterling K. Brown said that he'd initially put aside theatre when he started college because he needed to buckle down and be serious, I thought, "He IS Randall."
  11. Yay, a Thirtysomething thread! Thanks for starting one. And I didn't know it could be watched on Youtube--see you in a few weeks. Can't really binge, but I do wish D.J. Nash and the writers of A Million Little Things would use the long break to do so, to see and take notes on a show about the real little things that affect us, not always huge, dramatic problems or soapy situations like secret children. Back in the day I broke down the characters like so, not in any particular order: Liked Melissa (well, she was my favorite), Michael, Nancy Hated Gary, Ellyn, Hope Mixed emotions Elliot, Susannah Favorite episode: "Melissa and Men." I cried, but then that moment when Lee shows up...
  12. Jimmy Kimmel was a guest recently on Martha and Snoop's Potluck Party Challenge, and he mentioned to Martha that they have something in common: when he had the DNA test on Finding Your Roots, it revealed that he and Martha were matches. I wonder why the show didn't show this.
  13. I don't have children, but all the people I know who do post on Facebook once theirs get their license: "Watch out, road! Kid has his/her license now!" But Delilah blithely sends Sophie out ASAP with her younger brother. In addition to the mysterious location of the car all this time, wasn't Delilah facing financial problems not all that long ago? She should have thought about selling the car if she was desperate. It's not like Sophie would be disappointed about not getting her father's wish since she didn't know about it.
  14. Aw, I wish it had been kept a secret. It was a wonderful surprise.
  15. Oh, man. That was so well done. SO well done. Luke Perry could not have asked for a better tribute. The parade and the townspeople really were so moving, and kudos to the show for keeping Shannen's appearance a secret (or was I the only one who didn't know?).
  16. Let's discuss the important thing: do you suppose that five-strand necklace Isabella Rossellini was wearing was made of real pearls? Wow.
  17. Yes! I would probably ask that first anyway. It seemed like the problems with Gina's restaurant came out of the blue. I know that restaurants' popularity can change, but it hasn't been open that long, has it? I know that the show probably wants to have plots for all the characters, but they don't all have to be dialed up to 11. I stopped watching Jane the Virgin because I felt so frazzled by all the plotlines.
  18. When Dan Quayle smoothly brushed off Obie, I felt a little admiration for the real one, even though this was a totally fictional situation, and I'm a Democrat through and through.
  19. 2045 or whenever sure looks a lot like today, and the music is terrible.
  20. There was a strange moment when Catherine Rampell was saying that even if someone was your friend, you shouldn't overlook their racism, and Bill snapped at her, "We get it." Did he think it was about him? She clearly meant the Mooch and Mr. Soul Cycle and their relationships with Trump.
  21. I've only been able to watch episode 1 so far, and I hated it. I read a lot about the civil rights movement and normally am thrilled to see anything related to it on TV, but it felt weird to shoehorn an English angle into it. And the terrible interpretations of southern accents were driving me crazy the whole time.
  22. I hope this sudden turn at the custody hearing means that Celeste is going to ask about the dead son.
  23. Especially over that bridge. I wonder if that means something.
