  1. IIRC, That episode was suppose to set up a spin-off series that never happened.
  2. Many French people speak English with a British accept because they learned English from the British.
  3. As a Canadian and a very secular, agnostic Jew, I agree. Leonard Nimoy was also Jewish, and did bring a bit of his heritage into Spock with the Vulcan Salute. And both Shatner and Nimoy got to cosplay as Nazis! Canadians play Americans all the time. What would 24 had been without the Canadian Kiefer Sutherland as the iconic American Jack Bauer? Excellent point! Casting directors must enjoy the freedom of casting actors to play the various aliens if a character has green skin or requires a lot of makeup/prosthetics.
  4. Or Canadians playing Americans (Kirk), which is something that happens a lot even now. We also had a Canadian playing Scotty, as James Dohan was good with accents.
  5. So once the Empire falls, will ALL the planets fall into chaos? Are trillions of people so dependent of Empire for resources and travel that they can't govern themselves? Even Bel has enough Stockholm Syndrome to believe that Empire is better than the alternative. I realize that some planets would do better then others due to a particular planet's natural resources, local government, and many other factors. CMIIW, but I believe that Asimov was thinking of Rome when he wrote the Foundation novels. A better scenario would not be a complete collapse of the Empire, but rather a gradual draw down of power as various worlds gain independence, bound by something like Star Trek's Federation rather then an overbearing Star Wars or Dune-Like Empire. (The best analogy I can think of is the British Empire.) Did Hari consider this in his calculations?
  6. And one of the greatest (If not THE greatest) ST villains of all time. The perfect blend of megalomaniac and charismatic. A worthy opponent to Kirk and crew. Why JJ Abrams turned this magnificent monster into Benedict Cumberbatch is a mystery to me.
  7. I'm generally not a romantic person, romance is usually the least interesting part of any show for me. But I do love a mature relationship between two adults: Bill Buchanan and Karen Hayes on 24. Holden and Naomi on The Expanse. And now Bel and Glawen! There seems to be quite an age difference, but Bel's time in prison probably aged him. I fear things will end badly for these two. Salvor has the Christopher Pike plot armour: If we know her fate later, she can't be dead now. (?)
  8. I joined Primetimer (originally Previously TV) so that I could discuss The Expanse. I wouldn’t put Foundation quite at that level, as The Expanse had a more disciplined, coherent narrative. Yet the shows resemble each other in that they are huge epics with a seemingly tiny audience, or at least a very limited media presence. Both shows are visually gorgeous, although Foundation looks a lot like Star Wars. Both shows have strong performances by a mixture of known and unknown actors. And both shows have Jared Harris.
  9. Still not clear on why Demerzel had Sareth’s family killed. Poor Bel. He is an excellent leader who commands respect either in a prison (he tried to get his fellow inmates freed) or on his own ship. He seems like a good person overall, yet he is terrified of what Day could do to him and his husband. One of the reasons the Empire will fall, ruling by absolute fear has its limits.
  10. I predict that Sareth will attempt to kill Demerzel. Not just for vengeance but because it will weaken Day who has relied on Demerzel his entire life. I believe Sareth was honest about not minding Day and Demerzel having sex, but she can’t overlook the other issues. I continue to worry about Poly and Constant. Imprisonment by Empire has been referenced several times as absolutely horrific 😬. I'm STILL thinking about Azura from Season 1! Bel’s years in the labor prison was actually one of the better options. Not sure what a "Naked Cell" is, but it sounds like something you should avoid.
  11. Me too! There is so much to unpack each week. Can't accept Salvor is dead, Gaal will turn on Tallin for sure if that is the case. So the Spacers are the Guild Navigators of this Empire. Day continues to be a huge dick, and Sareth has realized she is in over her head. Although Day did have a good point about Holo Hari violating Constant. That Gyno exam reminded me of The Handmaid's Tale, with Wombs being property. Nice call-out to the three laws of robotics!
  12. IIRC there were vague memories of Earth, now a nuclear wasteland.
  13. Have they explained why everyone seems to speak the same language? English to us, some sort of Galactic Lingua Franca to them. They must have something akin to the universal translator.
  14. Question about Chain of Command: why have Jellico take command of the Enterprise instead of letting him take the Cairo to the negotiations with the Cardassians? Because the Enterprise is the Flagship and Picard was conveniently sent on a secret mission?
  15. There has been speculation that Petra is the daughter of Picard and Vash.
  16. I’ve mentioned the distain this show has for religion, which is exactly what makes Poly and Constant so interesting. They are religious without being evil or stupid. So robots/androids are banned but Empire is cool with genetic engineering, which makes Foundation the opposite of Star Trek. The Spacers are like the beings in Dune that can fold space, so Empire tolerates them for that reason.
  17. I knew Poly and Constant would be arrested as soon as they reached Trantor. These are actually my favourite two characters this season. Bye clone Hari. I’m sure there is more than one of him anyway. Loved Day’s expression when Sareth declared that she is there to serve the people, not the other way around. Anybody still watching?
  18. The Vault reminds me of the Monument at Vimy Ridge.
  19. The people living and working in the Palace must have noticed how the woman always hovering around the Cleons for centuries never ages.
  20. So how many people know Demerzel is a robot? The medical team who saw her with half a head are obviously in on the secret. (unless they had their memories wiped, which would both hide the truth about Demerzel and Day's vulnerability to assassination attempts.)
  21. The Foundation being in a "religious" phase may explain it. People tend to ignore urgent warnings about pandemics and climate change, but many take predictions of Judgement Day or whatever more seriously. Also, people in the Foundation Verse tend to live longer (Poly is about 150 years old or thereabouts) so things predicted to happens decades from now may have personal impact.
  22. I just heard someone on the Pop Culture Happy Hour Podcast refer to this episode as "Once More with Phasers".
  23. If you take transporter technology to the extreme, you can cure any injury or disease and bring back anybody who ever died and clone everybody. The writers need to use some restraint with the transporter tech or it will be a catchall for all the problems.
  24. The Gorn we see may not be the Gorn who are controlling things. In this way the Gorn remind me not so much of the Borg than of the Cylons. There must be Gorn or Gorn-adjacent beings who build and maintain the Gorn ships and arrange the attacks. Or else the Gorn we see are the ones in charge? I think we have established that there are several sub-species of Gorn.
  25. "Don't worship children. It's not good for them"
