I may be alone here, but I am starting to LOVE this show. It has that slightly heightened, stagey dialogue . The art direction is more than a little similar to Star Wars, but I still enjoy it. The Informant's house hidden in the hills reminded me of my visit to Cappadocia in Turkey. Sareth being behind Day's assassination attempt (?) was not something I expected. As I said on the Silo forum. Apple isn't afraid to burn huge piles of money for shows almost no one watches.

Although this episode was a head -scratcher for me, I agree that the Klingons were the best part. K-Pop=Klingon pop! The dancing while swingling the Bat'leths was perfection. It was great because we were expecting opera. Klingons are allowed to have more than one musical genre, just like us.

More singing Klingons please. A lot more.

I did like Uhura's song.

To quote Pike: well that happened.

One more thought about Space Seed: Khan’s treatment of History Officer is absolutely cringeworthy, even when I correct for the era in which the episode was made. I assume that poor women became his wife and had her brain eaten by the slug things.

So has it only occurred to Demerzel NOW that you can get people to do things you want by being nice to them? Or was her challenge in convincing Day that his go-to strategy of threats and imprisonment won't always yield the results he wants?

Watching Space Seed for the first time in many years. Ricardo Montalban was HOT. Love how McCoy wasn’t phased when Khan held a knife to his throat. Kirk was stupid to give Khan access to the Enterprise library. And of COURSE Kirk beats Khan in combat🙄

So many details in this show. Like the planet that looked sort of European with the all-female army. Like the Dora Milaje but mostly white and evil-ish.

Rejoice Canadians: According to my DVR End Times will begin airing on CTV Comedy. Starting August 8.

In one season of TNG (I forget which one) Picard was only is one or two scenes in some episodes. I'm thinking of the episode where Troi decides to become a full commander and struggles with the engineering exam.

The man-made rings rings are stunning, and they show us one example of how building these rings (and other huge engineering projects) requires destroying the ecosystems of entire planets. I think this is a Star Wars thing too, although I am not an expert on that franchise.

The scenes between Prisoner Guy and his husband were genuinely moving. I’ll give the show that. I knew Master Trader was going to do the Switch with Asshat Dictator (Is there another kind of dictator?) but it was still satisfying to see. Gorgeous set design and costumes. Gaal and Hardow are really having an adventure! Not a typical mother-daughter relationship but I like where it’s going. Ditto for those two clerics in red. Overall I really enjoyed this episode.

I've mentioned this before, but that Lounge is one gorgeous example of retro-futuristic design. Props to the art director.

To be fair, it was Una who kept that secret for M'Benga. For his next meal, Pike will invite La'an to lunch with a Gorn orphan rescued from a crash. Think "I, Borg" but with Gorn. He's making fish tacos, so it's all good.

As @Chit Chat has mentioned, Pike does a lot of cooking. Yet this is his second Dinner Party From Hell this season.

I stand corrected! I'm sure all the Star Trek Martial arts have already been analyzed in great detail: Riker fighting his Dad, The Voyager Episode where Seven was forced to fight, Kirk's "Distinctive" fighting style. The Klingon/Vulcan/Other fighting styles are all based on Earth Martial Arts because that is our reference point as bipedal humanoids.

Agreed. Pike is not perfect, that was a dick move. If Rah was truly a great ambassador, he would understand that not everybody is ready to move on from the War. The Jambalaya was another enticement/bribe. Pike should resign from Starfleet a few months before the disastrous training cruise and open a restaurant.
-
They invented a new martial art for this episode! It looks like Judo, only more upright.

Two episodes in one week! Good episode. Rah was desperate to reconcile with M'Benga and M'Benga wasn't having it. I was confused by the end. So does Pike believe that M'Benga killed Rah in self-defence, totally taking Chapel's word for it, given Chapel’s past? Okay then. So there seems to be no video Surveillance in Sickbay. I'm cool with that, maybe Starfleet respects people's privacy. I do think M'Benga is not long for the Enterprise. Will we soon see McCoy? Casting suggestions? Purging the transport buffer really caused M'Benga some moral injury. He hid his own daughter in the transport buffer last season.

Mariner being taken with Spock reminded me of Dax being taken with Spock. Or maybe it was McCoy? It’s been awhile.

"Would you like to sample the ripeness of my bushel?" is one of the most risque and suggestive things I have ever heard.

Jack Quaid looks older than his animated version to me.

I could not help but imagine how the owner of a current refinery would react.
