I think they took the Tyrell's harvest for the year. I'm not sure about the Tarlys and others though. I know they swore to work with Cersei but I can't imagine they would send their own stores and crops to KL when they will have their own people to feed come winter.
-
I was really puzzled why she didn't save the food. But Dany now basically controls Highgarden and The Reach by extension. If they are alive the Tarly's are her prisoners. They'll either bend the knee or be fried I'm guessing. So she'll have chances to get more grain and food stores. Though a lot was lost last night. I doubt all the bannermen houses that betrayed Olenna gave all of their stores to Jamie. Dany can also raid those now.

I really needed this episode after the heavy Lannister winning episodes previously. The build up to that battle was so suspenseful. I knew what was coming given what Dany had been discussing but I still wasn't ready. I loved Jamie getting the army into formation and his somewhat confident belief they could hold the Dothraki only to see his face fall when we hear Drogon's roar and Dany swoop in. That was all just beautifully shot. I have to admit once it all started I wanted more carnage. It was too convenient that all that dragon fire and Dothraki charging didn't take out at least Randall Tarly and Dickon. I'm not sure what purpose either of them serve at this point and it would have been nice revenge for Lady Olenna. I hope Dany takes control of Highgarden and The Reach now that the Tarly's are dispatched. I'm glad I'm the majority(?) that is sad that Bronn lived. If we have to lose characters like Margaery and Olenna I honestly don't want space wasted on snark characters like Bronn. He's had his funny moments but once he hit Drogon I really needed to see him melted into nothing. It didn't help that he saved Jamie who is character I have detested since season 1. There is no redeeming Jamie IMO and a fitting end would have been to see him die realizing what a fool he has been for following his insane sister. My only hope now is that he's a prisoner so we at least see some interaction with Tyrion. Also if he is I hope Jon reclaims Widows Wail since it is made from Ice and can be useful against the WW. Jamie is not fit to wield it and never has been. The cracks in the Dany/Tryion relationship were good too. I'm kind of sad it seems like Tyrion might turn on her but I found it very realistic that finally faced with the reality that Dany is there to indeed wipe out House LannisterTyrion was very conflicted. I don't understand why Dany couldn't take Rhaegal and Viserion. They still follow her commands. She used all three to burn the slaver ships. I suppose without riders they may not know where to attack but how amazing would it have been to see all three lay waste to the Lannisters? I'm also worried the other 2 are lacking the combat experience Drogon has. He's also naturally the most aggressive of the 3. Rhaegal and Viserion need some training if they are going to face WW. The Sansa and Arya scene was beautiful. I love that there was actual joy and fondness there. I also love that bit by bit we get to see that Sansa is not buying what LF is selling. She knows he can't be trusted. All in all an amazing episode. I can only imagine what the remaining three are going to be like if this one was as action packed and intense.

I think you're right. I just assumed Ellaria would eventually be killed once Tyene had decomposed sufficiently. I can't see Cersei just keeping her alive forever. She likely wouldn't be suffering just looking at bleached bones in a year or so. And yeah I don't think being around rotting flesh like that is healthy. She would probably catch something and die. I hope the show gives us some sort of throwaway line about Dorne at least. I was watching a clip yesterday and Doran specifically mentions that Ellaria is mother to 4 of his nieces. So there should still be 3 of Oberyn's daughters in Dorne.
-
I was musing about this earlier today as well. Ellaria has got to have at least a month or 2? Cersei made it seem like she wanted Tyene to be dust before she dealt with Ellaria so she may have even longer. If she can hang on and KL isn't ruined if/when Dany takes it she could be liberated. Though I suspect this was the last we will see of Ellaria.

You didn't miss a battle at Highgarden because there sadly wasn't one. Just Olenna watching the approaching Lannister/Tarly forces. It then cuts to Jamie entering Highgarden where the now dead Tyrell forces are being stacked on top of each other.

It's a good question. I feel like the show never really knew what to do with/in Dorne. With a few episodes left and then one final short season I don't think they want to devote time to a question like this. This episode made me think we are to assume House Martell and House Tyrell are gone. The show is getting rid of a lot of players and really thinning down the cast.
-
She's giving Tyene a swift death but Ellaria is going to suffer for a long time. Tyene will die in a day or so but Cersei intends Ellaria to watch the body decompose for days/months. Ellaria clearly loved her daughter so seeing her rot is pretty cruel and is a form of torture all on its own. Very poetic of Cersei in a way.

Gotcha! I'm right there with you. I think power has always been what she was after. If it was all about her children she would have been happy with Tommen ruling. The Tyrells were not going to try and destabilize that alliance since Tommen was not a psycho like Joffrey. Cersei could have just lived the rest of her days watching her son as king. But like you I think her end game has always been power for herself. I think it's telling that the only child's death she truly mourned was the death of her worst child and the one most like her. Myrcell and Tommen were far more like Jamie. Passive and weak.
-
Has Cersei always lived with the prophecy looming over her though? I thought she only flashed back to it after Joffrey's death and started to give it real weight after Myrcella's death? I can't buy that that's what made her who she is. I think she's always been a horrible person. Even young Cersei in that flasbhack was a cocky little shit who threatened that witch if she didn't do what she told her. Cersei's pride and vanity have always clouded her judgment and made her the monster that she is not any maternal sense of protection. I think she hides behind that to rationalize things to herself. Jamie was so foolish when he told Olenna people wouldn't care once Cersei brought peace after defeating her enemies. One thing the show has depicted well is that Cersei will never not have enemies. She'll beat some but then inevitably make more. Peace was a real possibility with Tommen in power but her jealousy of Margaery caused her to literally blow up any chance at peace up.

I think Jamie promised Tarly stewardship of Highgarden and I guess the Warden of the South title. I'm curious to find out if Tarly is going to be informed that Cersei has looted all of The Reach's wealth to pay off her debts though. He may end up the warden of nothing at this rate.

Boo at the show not showing Highgarden for seven seasons only to show a tiny bit of it after it was sacked! I actually pictured it looking more like Casterly Rock and Casterly Rock looking more like Highgarden did. RIP Olenna! I'm glad she got to give one last amazing speech. I'm only sorry she won't get to see Cersei die. But I think she went out knowing Cersei was on borrowed time. I felt bad for Ellaria and Tyene. They certainly weren't innocent but it was still a rough scene to watch. I did like that Cersei realized that she and Ellaria were a lot alike in their scorched earth retaliation tactics. As much as I hate her it was nice to see such a bad ass queen. For now Cersei is running it all perfectly. She played the Iron Bank associate so well. The writing is making Euron look so good. At this rate he'll be the best battle commander in GOT history. The Sansa and Bran reunion was touching but marred a bit by how lifeliess Bran behaved. I guess that's part of his transformation. But of all the things to use to let Sansa know you can see things you choose to discuss one of her worst traumas? And if his powers have advanced that far can he just find Ayra?

Even if CR is broke (all we know is that the mines have run dry) I'm sure there is still a lot of value stored there. The Lannisters were the wealthiest and most powerful family in the seven kingdom for years. Who knows what is stored in their castle. It's also bad optics to have your houses' ancestral lands conquered. If Grey Worm is successful that's another loss of allies for Cersei since Dany would have all of CR's residents as prisoners (many of whom would be loyal to Cersei). Which in turn will make other allies and potential allies question allying with a Queen that just had her ancestral home sacked. It would also make the unsullied/Dany look very powerful since CR has apparently never been conquered. At least that is how I took Dany/Tyrion's reasoning.

I think Olenna not doing what you are suggesting would be more glaring if the show wasn't portraying her as grief stricken and not exactly rationale. Based on what she said at the end of season 6 she isn't looking for House Tyrell and Highgarden to survive this. I think she realizes that with no heirs left at all apparently (at least on the show) her house is doomed. She's living now to see Cersei pay for what she did. She probably would have been better off seeking revenge with her own forces since she has a lot of what Cersei needs but I think Ellaria and Varys gave her a good pitch in season 6. Based on this episode I think Olenna expected Dany to swoop in and blitz KL and Cersei quick. She wasn't too happy with the approach they ended up taking.

I think he absolutely can. Based on what we have seen on the show the WW seem to have some type of weather/cold manipulation. I assume if/when they breach the wall they'll bring the snow and cold with them. That's what makes them so scary. Their numbers are already huge but every time they engage with any of the Westeros forces they'll have the chance to add even more to their army. And agreed no dragon WW please.
-
I honestly feel like the show checked in with Nymeria for the reason you are suggesting. That come the final big battle with the WW Nymeria is going to show up with a ton of wolves.
-
Right. Plus Oberon hated the Lannisters and so does Ellaria. Ellaria isn't a sympathetic character but honestly I had no issue with what she did. Cersei and Jamie were abusing children long before Ellaria went after Myrcella. The show gives Cersei so many wins that the audience has to take the losses where you can get them. I've thoroughly enjoyed her losing her children (although Tommen had potential). But sadly even that wasn't that gratifying since she only really seemed to care about Joffrey's death. Myrcella added nothing to the show anyway so it wasn't a big loss to me. The Dorn storyline overall has been a huge mess and waste of time. It will culminate in yet another gloating moment for Cersei and some gruesome fate for Ellaria and her daughter. Kind of a waste of Indira Varma.

The scene between Jamie and Tarly was odd. It played it off like Tarly had a conflict with his duty/honour but as you said Cersei is not the rightful ruler and someone was rigid about rules as Tarly would see it that way as well. Not to mention it seems people do know or suspect Cersei of the Sept explosion. The Bannermen of House Tyrell should be on board with Olenna then considering Cersei wiped out their ruling house. The only way I can buy this conflict is if, as others have said, the lesser houses see a power grab for the Reach now. And Tarly did make that off hand comment that he is aware of how Cersei deals with her enemies. Implying she rules by fear. Making Olenna's advice to Dany all the more poignant.

Whew that last scene was a nail bitter. This show always does a great job of raising the tension level toward the end of the episode. As amazing as it was seeing Euron's fleet materialize out of the night. It did make me wonder how on earth no one on any of Yara's ships noticed. Was no one on watch? Minor nitpick but it kind of took me out of it for a moment. Also how does Dany not have that intel? I don't believe Varys wouldn't know. So it just seems like a miss for the sake of advancing the story/ I have always hated when animals on this show die. Each dire wolf death has been a knife to my heart. I cannot deal with Cersei of all people potentially killing a dragon. We have seen these 3 from eggs until now. I am very attached and don't want to lose any of them. I am here however for one of them lighting Cersei up. I adore Lean Headey but please please show let this be the end of the Lannisters (minus Tyrion). Cersei is every bit as digusting as Joffrey and Ramsay and her end better be brutal. If the final season is the WW then we need to wrap up the human villains. Jamie can go to. I will never be on board with redemption for him. He pushed a 10 year old to his death and has never once showed an ounce of remorse. He remains complicit with everything Cersei continues to do. I shudder just thinking about the gloating Cersei is going to be doing with Ellaria next episode. One thing that surprised me was that people seem to know or at least be suggesting Cersei blew up the Sept. I assumed she would try and pin it on Dany and Tyrion to draw further comparisons to the Mad King. I can't believe any of the Tyrell banner men would follow her knowing or suspecting that. She's essentially no better than the king she's speaking out against. They are the same. Both using wild fire to kill people. Although it seemed Tarly was scared of her as well in his conversation with Jamie. Dany take note and listen to Olenna! I've wanted to see Highgarden since I first heard about it. I hope I don't just get to see it sacked. The Nymeria scene was everything! I always forget that Ghost was the runt so his siblings are always so much bigger.

I was pulling for Cameron. He got shafted the most because of Paul's return. Plus he seemed competent at both types of challenges without being a competition beast like Cody. Obviously Cody returning will cause the most drama though. I'm not convinced he'll target Paul right away though. Let's see.

Thank you! I forgot about the ritual of turning the baby. There were a lot of WWs there. I suppose we are just assuming they must turn an infant male. The Night King was a grown man so maybe he has the ability to turn other grown men/women. If that's the case he's likely had years (centuries?) to turn wildlings into WW. A very scary thought.
-
I can't remember. Did the show ever indicate how long Craster had been giving the WW his sons? It would be interesting to try and gauge how many actual WW there are. We've only ever seen 4 together correct? And 3 have been killed on screen (by Sam, Jon, Meera). And those babies would need time to grow....although I suppose the WW could have rapid aging. I hope the series explores their mythos a bit before they are dealt with.

It's made even more ridiculous because they completely disregarded Sansa when she was soliciting help and that clearly seemed to be because she was a woman. I never cared for this Lyanna for that either. She shat on Sansa for actions she had to take to survive after her family was basically destroyed. As if the only way to survive is with a sword and fighting. Ayra is a much better counter to the traditional ladies on this show than Lyanna who at this point just seems like a forced meme.

I adored Margaery *sobs*. I think she played the game very well but she wasn't ruthless enough. There was a kindness to Margaery that let her pursue her own agenda without being like Cersei. Had she been more ruthless she may have found a way to eliminate Cersei before Cersei got her. I think Olenna may have moved to do that if she didn't get distracted dealing with Loras and Margaery being imprisoned. Cersei likely could try and have another child but she doesn't have a husband to pass the child off as anything but an incest baby now. Obviously it's well known throughout KL that she and Jamie had offspring but being so brazen as to publicly have her brother's baby and pass it off as the next in line for the throne may cause riots or a massive backlash. She's barely holding on to power as it is. I'm guessing that's partly why she's looking for a husband. To serve as cover in case she and Jamie conceive again.

It was in one of his astral projections. The Night King saw him and touched him. That created the link. He was warned about it but of course did not listen.
