  1. From what I understand from years of experience watching TV (including 40+ seasons of all the Law & order shows), whenever a detective leaves the precinct in order to break into movies, or get a job on HBO, he (or she) is immediately replaced by an equally telegenic detective partner within at least 4 episodes. I'm sure it's exactly like that in real life, too. I'm pretty sure that's in the Constitution. :)
  2. Georgie is my favorite character on the show. He consistently tries hard to do the right thing, despite not being the sharpest tool in the drawer. He's very people-oriented and this whole pregnancy storyline is maturing him quickly (as it should). Mandy is my least favorite character. I'm getting tired of her blaming Georgie completely for her current situation. A 30 year old woman gets knocked up by her 17 year old boyfriend, and he's the villain? It takes two to tango, but in this case, it took one adult and one under-aged knucklehead. The way they write her character isn't doing her any favors either. She'll get in an argument with Georgie, or her father, or Mary, or whoever, and then turn and storm out of the room. Not very mature for a 30 year old, and something that happens more often on TV than it does in real life. The other problem is that the actress who plays Mandy always looks like she'd rather be anywhere than on this TV show. She has a facial expression of permanent irritation. (Having said that, I did like the introduction of her parents. They seem to "fit" just right as the people who raised her - especially the mom.)
  3. I had a sneaking suspicion, early on, that the entire Wright family was going to end up together on Thanksgiving. I must be some kind of psychic! (Or, I simply watch a LOT of TV.) lol I'm glad we finally got to meet the oldest brother; the longer you keep him off-screen, the "wackier" he's going to have to be to justify the mystery. Fortunately, the robotic big brother was just wacky enough. I really enjoyed the scenes with the 3 siblings together. These were well written, and by someone who obviously has a sibling or two themselves! "Who's the favorite?" among siblings is a tricky issue. My sister and I went through that, but at least we were only 2 kids with 2 parents, so we both could claim a "win" with one parent or the other. With 3 kids, somebody's got to be left out. The older brother was a bit of a jerk, but it sounds like he was the "leftover" in the Wright family, so I can cut him some slack. Also, we was shipped off to military boarding school for some reason? Yikes. I'll bet there's some juicy backstory to that! The case of the week was pretty good. I didn't know where they were going with it but I'm glad the 2 extremely weird kids turned out to be the "good guys" in the end. I hope they have a bit of a follow-up with those 2; maybe a comment in passing that lets us know that Todd and/or mom are making sure they're able to transition into "real life" after who knows how many years as virtual prisoners.
  4. I was sorry to see Glenda and Lumumba get eliminated, and it seemed clear that Phil was disappointed as well. Phil is always gracious at the mat with the last team to arrive, but sometimes you can tell if he likes or dislikes a particular team. This time, he looked truly sorry G&L were leaving and he seemed to be genuinely sharing a big laugh with them as they joked about their time on the race. Of course Phil has favorites; I think G&L are definitely one of those teams. I don't dislike any of the teams left in the race, but my favorites are the twins. I remember, many years ago, they had a twin team who were young women originally from India. They were kind of air-headed and always shouted "Twinnie Power!" to each other as a sign of support. They became one of my all-time favorite teams. Anyway, every time I see the twins appear this season, I shout "Twinnie Power!" at my TV screen to try to boost their chances. LOL
  5. This was a another fun episode, as lightweight as a French souffle, but worth an hour of my time on a Thursday night. Having said that, the courtroom scene at the end was about as fake as anything ever seen in an episode of "Perry Mason"! No way that line of questioning would have ever been allowed. Oh well. As my grandmother used to say, "It takes all that to make a story". :)
  6. I was holding out some hope for this show due to nostalgia for the original and the promise of some beautiful scenery as the ship travels to various exotic places. However, the show itself is kind of boring. I found myself ducking out of the room to get some chores done after about the first half hour, although I did come back for the final results. This show isn't goofy enough to match BiP or train-wrecky enough to match the late, great "Looking For Love: Bachelorettes in Alaska" (anyone remember THAT hilarious disaster?)
  7. I hate to admit this but....... When I first got on Twitter several years ago, I thought my tweets to a person were private and hidden from everyone except the person I was tweeting to (yes, I realize how stupid that is - now!). When a co-worker told me that all of my tweets could be viewed by everyone/anyone, I was mortified and I've never tweeted since!
  8. This show wasn't bad at all. It was light-hearted and breezy. As noted above, it was like a lot of the shows that used to pop up on USA back in the 90s. Those shows were very popular for a reason, so it makes sense that CBS may want to dip a toe in that water. I liked both Todd and his mom; they had a very funny mother-son dynamic that I found enjoyable. The sister wasn't so great, though. I thought the actress was told to "act sad" and, boy, did she deliver on that! When she gave Todd a lift to the magic store, I seriously thought the show was going to veer into some tragic subplot of the sister's mental health issues or something. Todd and his mom need to investigate what's going on with her. CBS has a nice pairing of Young Sheldon - Ghosts - So help Me Todd.
  9. I was talking this show up to some friends last week and I described it as a "dramedy" since they have such a light-hearted team. Then this episode happened. :( Tonight's episode focused on the 2 things "The Rookie" does poorly - undercover stories and serial killers. Every time they have someone go undercover, the cop(s) act tough in the same way as all the other cops going undercover do on the show, and the bad guys (who are always inter-changable with all the other generic bad guys on this show) go through the usual cocky-dangerous-threatening act that all the bad guys on this show do. I can always tell how dangerous these bad guys actually are by looking at the clock and seeing how long it'll take to wrap the case up and get back to the station for a bit of comedy at the end. Serial killers are nasty. I had my fill of them from watching "The Mentalist" for all 7 seasons and I don't relish going through "Red John lite" on this show (Officer Bradford would know all about THAT.) ** Maybe I'm an old fogey, but I like when the cast are in their patrol cars, solving cases and investigating crimes while chatting in between calls and doing rookie training. ** - The actor who plays Tim was an FBI agent on "The Mentalist" who was secretly a disciple of Red John. He even got engaged to Grace simply so he could keep an eye on the team for RJ. Good to see him on the good guys' side now.
  10. We finally got a studio audience back this season, but then the big victory tonight took place in the backyard, with Julie and the audience watching on the giant viewscreen. What was going on there? Did Julie test positive for something and needed to be away from the contestants? The backyard "stage" they set up was kind of sparse and clinical-looking.
  11. I'm rooting for Monte but I don't understand his logic in keeping Turner and cutting Brittney. He can easily beat Brittney in pretty much anything, but Turner has 3 HoHs under his belt and is a smart, crafty fellow. That pairing may be a toss-up. For once, Brittney impressed me with her lucid and logical arguments to Monte. I wish he'd taken her advice. I don't care about the thoughts of The Cookout. I'd much rather have Julie do a one-on-one interview with Xavier - the reining BB winner - about HIS thoughts on BB24, The Leftovers, the Final 3, etc.
  12. This is the part of the season where I'm tired of everyone and just want to get to the finale! lol I guess Monte is my pick to win, but it doesn't really matter; everyone except Brittney have kind of "earned" it. This week is going to be incredibly boring for all 4 HGs. They already had the veto competition and now they have to wait until Thursday for the eviction. That's 5 days of absolutely nothing going on. I kind of see why the HGs nap so often! My understanding is this (I could be wrong): Thursday: live eviction, interview with The Cookout, "beginning of the 3 part final HoH competition" Friday: traditional drink champagne and show flashbacks of the various contestants ("losers!" tm Zingbot) Sunday: 2 hour finale
  13. I know nothing about fashion, but Julie dancing with all the outfits she wore throughout the season? I was transfixed - so much fun! I liked that she was having a good time with it and laughing at herself a little, too. She's really come a long way from her robotic delivery in the early seasons of this show. Probably my favorite HOH competition of the year (yet I only got 2 correct answers! lol).
  14. I really enjoyed the veto competition and it was one of those comps that I actually wish I could have participated in (although NOT in the middle of the night!). I thought it was hilarious, seeing 3 of them building their clocks and carefully testing how well they turned, while Alyssa simply had a board full of randomly placed wheels all over the place, most of which weren't even connected to anything. LOL Monte's strategy of using Turner as a shield just for this one week makes sense. Without Turner there, any of the 3 females would for sure nominate Monte (and probably evict him for the "girl-power final 3" that they were discussing the other night). With Turner still there, Monte has some pretty good protection from eviction next week. This gets him TO Final 3, but facing Turner IN Final 3 may be tricky. I think Taylor can survive this week if she reminds the others that Alyssa has 3 nearly guaranteed jury votes (Kyle, Indy, and Jasmine) while she (Taylor) has none. Brittany is probably the best floater to drag to F2 since she's kind of useless in comps (aside from this veto) and only has Michael as an ally (who may vote or may not vote for her - depends on if he truly values gameplay or if he's butthurt for getting eliminated in 6th place).
  15. Monte really needed to nominate Turner this week. Then Taylor is the only person standing in his way of a victory. (Then again, it's easy for us to decide what should go on in the house when we're not actually IN the house! haha)
  16. The little vent door was something all the contestants could see in the starting room before the lights went out, and I believe the instructions even told them to go through there. The first 2 doors were "gimmee"; the other 4 doors were the real challenge. (I liked this challenge; it looked like fun! haha) I wonder if they let Michael test this challenge out before sending him to jury. "Michael's time = 5:15!" lol
  17. No reason for anymore backdoors this season now that everyone plays in Veto. Michael should have to win either HoH or Veto every week now or get sent packing. Anyone who doesn't nominate Michael from now on should themselves get a penalty nom for stupidity. I'm not sure if Michael is really that good at comps or if everyone else is totally hopeless. I think it's the former. 24 seasons in, and we finally have a contestant who is actually able to follow the most basic strategy of BB - Win a comp every week to stay safe. That's all there is to it! lol (At this point, Michael deserves to win, but I still hope to see a late-season shake-up.)
  18. I remember, years ago, when Cody was in the house, he had an ally named Christine who obviously had a big crush on him, even though she was married. Zingbot came on the show and said something like, "Hey Christine, when you leave the house, Cody's going to give you a going-away present - a restraining order. ZING!!!". Still the best Zing in BB history! hahaha
  19. Did Alyssa actually say that Britany had "leaded" a class? I knew Alyssa was ignorant from her whole "London is in France, right?" conversation, but this makes her sound stupid as well. Plus, with Zingbot's "totally useless" zing, Alyssa really had a bad night in this episode! Michael, Turner, Monte, and Taylor are the 4 players I see as potential winners this season. Usually at this point in the game, there's maybe only a couple of viable candidates. I've really enjoyed the cast this season and wouldn't mind any of these 4 as the final winner. Who'll be in 2nd place - Alyssa or Britany?
  20. My pet peeve is when TV shows (dating back to Jay Leno) think it's SO funny how the youth of America is so completely ignorant. I find it sad and embarrassing, but the Millennials featured on these shows seem to revel in their own stupidity. "Is it London, France?" "I don't know if Prague is a city or a country, but I want to go there." They should get penalty noms just for this. :( Biggest disappointment of the night: no mention of Zingbot! Doesn't he usually make an appearance about now in the season? If not this week, then next week for sure.
  21. Terrance has impressed me this week. he (kind of) won HoH, won PoV, and has managed to set up things perfectly so that he's the tie-breaker. He's really enjoying being in charge this week and he's doing an excellent job letting these young kids flail around and panic for his enjoyment! haha Terrance is old-school, so he may like getting that big download of secrets from Kyle, but he has zero respect for Kyle ratting out his allaince in such a panicked state. I think Terrance realized that Kyle was never going to align with him in a new group with Allysa and Michael & Brittany. Terrance is still the odd-man-out. His plan (and its a good one) is to vote out Joseph tonight (I'm guessing), hurting the Leftovers a lot, and making sure that everyone knows that Kyle is a rat, which also hurts the Leftovers. Next week, who do you think will be an almost certain nominee? Kyle. Even if Terrance is also nominated next week, he's got a pretty solid chance of surviving. This gives him a chance to put something together with Allysa and any members of the Leftovers who may break away from that now-fractured alliance over the next couple of weeks. He's setting himself up for his best opportunity of making it to the end. Not bad for "the old guy" who was somehow completely clueless for the first 7 weeks of the show! DJ Showtime? More like DJ Primetime! haha
  22. If Kyle had approached this from a position of strength ("It's time for me to break up my Leftovers alliance and get myself to Finale night by teaming up with Allysa, Terrance, XXX and XXX this week, finishing the plan I've been working on for a few weeks now"), I would have saluted his expert gameplay. But that's not what happened. Kyle found himself outside all week, afraid that his "girlfriend" was going to get sent home and panicked. He operated from a position of weakness. He ratted out his alliance to both Allysa and Terrance, hoping and praying that that would mean he and his lady-love would be safe for at least one more week. What a loser. I think I like Jasmine (who's at least fully committed to her over-the-top corn-pone accent) more than man-child Kyle, "Mother's Special Boy".
  23. Random thoughts on the episode: I love Big Brother, but 2 hours is a LOT to sit through (I always feel the same about double episodes of The Amazing Race - too much of a good thing). I almost never notice Julie's clothing choices, but in last night's episode, she was looking FINE! :) This new twist is so complicated I almost needed to write it down. Why not just play the game "normally"? The Leftovers are about to implode, which should give us weeks of entertainment without all of this artifice layered on top, (Then again, I thought the Festie Bestie twist was dumb originally, but grew to enjoy it by the end). Taylor disappointed me with her HOH reign. "I want Terrence out this week." "Indy is my target." "Let's get rid of Allysa instead!" It really called into question her leadership abilities. Kyle seems like one of those genuinely nice guys who nevertheless gets on your nerves really quickly. He'll make a fine upstanding adult some day. Did one of Jasmine's eyebrows have legs on it last night?!?! I'm calling it now: DJ Showtime is about to take control of this game! haha Wouldn't it be awesome if he actually made a move this week that totally resets the season? We found his secret winning-HoH power: staring at a TV screen and correctly identifying stuff. (Seriously, though, Terrence really was good-natured about having 182 (!) tattoos plastered all over his body.) 2 hours of show and we STILL ran out of time trying to see who gets picked for each team! :(
  24. Classic "overplaying your hand scenario". Michael was leaning towards flipping the house and voting Monte out, when Daniel and House puppet-master "DJ Showtime" came up with the same plan. Then they convince the ladies that that would be a good idea. I can understand Michael's surprise when 5 Houseguests just "randomly" strolled into the HoH room, one at a time, and laid out the same identical plan. At that point, he'd be crazy to go along with it. However, next week would be a good time to take out a strong competitor because Indy, Jasmine, Allysa, and DJ Showtime are totally useless as players. I'd like to see an alliance actually call themselves "The Floaters" and strategize with each other about how best to "stay under the radar", "not get blood on my hands", "go along with the will of the House", "promise the HoH anything", and wonder when the right time to make a "big move in this game" would be. That would be funny!
  25. I understand Taylor's reluctance to willingly go on the Block for the FOURTH time so far this season, but they really need to get Nicole out of there. She's a tough competitor and kind of mean, so there's 2 good reasons to show her the door. I'm enjoying the Leftovers alliance so far, but we all know that alliances that are adept at wiping out their competition tend to turn cocky and smug very quickly. I hope that doesn't happen here. I'd hate to have a new underdog alliance led by Daniel get formed and suddenly start to appeal to the American public!
