  1. That was fun! I laughed so much I scared the cat. No Helping Hands, no waste of time guest star, just the 4 guys doing great games. Two things: Colin being coarse is just wrong.  And as hilarious as those Greatest Hits were, nothing--nothing, I say--will ever top "KELP!"

  2. Well, crap. I posted my comments about last night in last week's thread. Wishful thinking--last week's weather was so much better, I wish it was still then. Or something. Anyway, my observation was that the recreation of the 70s was wonderful but I think Stephen's lapels should've been wider.

  3. Last night's Colbert Report segment with John Dean reminded me how much I hate, with the heat of a thousand burning nuns, flames on the side of my face, totally hate, use of the present tense when describing what happened in the past. It's the PAST, it's history, it already happened. English has a whole tense just for that. Use it!

Releated to that, but not on TV: I can't read books or fan fic  written in present tense. It feels like the author standing up and waving "look at me! Look at me! I'm an auteur!"

  4. In this anti-intellectual climate and with girls getting shot in the face for wanting an education, the message that girls should be educated and how education can change lives is welcomed. It was a bit heavy-handed but this is not a show for subtlety. I did like the point about Ninon having more choice than the girls she decided to help.

  5. A place to discuss particular episodes, arcs and moments from the show's run. Please remember this isn't a complete catch-all topic -- check out the forum for character topics and other places for show-related talk.
@Lisin, I'm confused by this post that appeared today at the head of the topic. Were we veering off course? There are only a handful of posts in this topic and I don't think any of them belonged elsewhere? The post read like a warning or chastisement but I'm not sure what warranted either so I'm asking for clarification.
  6. Because the current version of Jeopardy started in 1984, they broke it into three 10 year blocks -- 1984-1993, 1994-2003, 2004-present -- which explains how some contestants appeared to be shifted into the wrong decade.
    Aha! Thanks, @ottoDbusdriver.
  7. Hudson University, notorious alma mater of strippers working their way through law school and uncountable numbers of killers and victims in the L&O universe, was also mentioned on Castle. Castle's station house is 12 a.k.a The ol' 1-2 from Barney Miller.

Ive wondered if St. Sebastian Hospital from Lost was a crossover...I know I heard it in another show but I've forgotten what it was now. Something set in L.A. The Closer, maybe?

Thanks so much for this topic! I can't wait to check all of the links!

ETA: From the dangerousminds.net link: Darrin Stephens from Bewitched is referenced as part of the St. Elsewhere universe. Technically, it's his mother. I remember the scene well because it was really just a throwaway line. A psychiatrist played by GW Bailey is on the phone and you just catch him saying "I'm sure your daughter-in-law is not a witch, Mrs. Stevens."

  8. Although I'd prefer new episodes, I missed part of the Battle of the Decades so I'm happy for the repeats. One thing I missed was how they construed "decade" because it seemed like many of the players in any given decade actually played in an another. For (totally made up) example: Ms. X who originally played in 1975 is in 1960s week.

  9. I'm going to go out on a limb and say there is more than one way to act like a kid; all of the other contestants in the tournament are also kids and yet they don't make sounds like an injured seal.

You know what would be a killer FJ? Answering "when this volcano in Iceland erupted, it disrupted air travel for weeks."
