  1. Cabo couple irritated me. A couple of things $500,000 is not an insignificant amount of money, and I'm sure it would have bought a very fine place somewhere along a beautiful Mexican beach with lots of charm and things to do. Exactly why was it necessary to get a place in Cabo, a five star resort where celebrities like to hang out? Of course that's going to drive up the prices. And they wanted an awful lot for their money. $519,000 is not $181,000 under your budget - it is $19,000 OVER your original budget. $25,000 is not slightly over your budget, it is $225,000 over. I admit I don't have a lot of money, but they were awfully quick to add $200,000 to their budget for a vacation home, as if it was nothing. It's been said before, but the word '"budget" seems to have no meaning anymore. I loved the third house too, it had everything they wanted, 5 minutes from the beach and a city and it was reasonably priced for the area - only slightly over their original budget. (Are you as tired of reading the word "budget" as I am of typing it?) AND it had that fabulous outdoor bedroom, though I wouldn't like to climb those steps every day - spiral staircases are lovely but as I get older, they seem more and more like a trip and fall hazard. But I just might risk it to sleep up there every now and then. I'd have to bring a chamber pot though - I didn't see a bathroom up there and I definitely wouldn't want to navigate that staircase in the middle of the night! I knew they'd take House #2, which was really nice if not as practical, fun and whimsical as House #3, just because House 3 made the most sense. I didn't love the wife talking about spending more money to fix up the entryway; they were already $225,000 over their you-know-what. And yes, I know they had already bought #2 when they started filming etc etc, but it's more fun to pretend that they didn't, lol.
  2. ^^ I also don't like when they choose to build their own house rather than pick a house we've seen. I don't know why, but it irritates me; I feel I've been cheated somehow.
  3. I just binge-watched about 6 backed up episodes this morning, and I thought this was the best episode for quite a while; I actually laughed out loud several times. And Donald Faison is never not welcome on my television screen :-)
  4. ^^ Yes, clothes in the closet (or lack thereof) are always the dead giveaway for me. That, and dishes in the cupboards, and too many knickknacks, gadgets and knives on the kitchen counter
  5. Here's another one - a comment in the International thread reminded me. "We could never fit a turkey in this oven!" Lol. People in other countries must think Americans cook a turkey at least once a week instead of once or maybe twice a year; that is ALWAYS their comment about the size of the oven. It never fails to amuse me. Are turkeys even regularly eaten or readily available in many other countries? I've never traveled, I don't even know
  6. Not really a pet peeve, but I do wish they'd show some sort of scale when "pin-pointing" the three houses on the map. What looks like forever can be a 10 minute drive, and vice versa. It would be nice to have some idea just how far away the houses are from the city center/job/school or whatever, and from each other as well.
  7. Yes, they couldn't go wrong; all the houses were gorgeous. I like episodes like that, the worst is when I don't really like any of the choices, lol. They ended up choosing my favorite, it had fantastic bones and the problems were mostly cosmetic from what I could tell. For what it's worth, I believe the dark haired, younger husband was David.
  8. Shallow post of the day Black same sex couple in Chicago. It was nice to see they both wore their hair natural - I think it's pretty and attractive, and actually somewhat unusual these days. There have been times I've forgotten that black ladies do not, as a rule, have naturally straight black hair. And did the pole dancer/crocheter wife win the genetic lottery or what? She was absolutely gorgeous, with a stunning figure to boot. Must be nice. I was happy they did not pick the first house, which I thought was beautiful - I was scared the other wife would get to knock down the walls she wanted as a compromise, and ruin all that was wonderful about that house. But they didn't choose that one, so there is someone out there who got themselves a really lovely house, and I can pretend that they kept all the original features. I was surprised at how nice all the houses were, and relatively inexpensive as well. And yes, I know a few knitters and crocheters, they can amass tremendous quantities of yarn. Austin couple - I don't remember a whole lot about that episode; I spent the entire time staring at the cute realtor, wondering exactly how tall he was. It was very distracting, lol. As someone said, he had to be pushing 7 feet; he had to duck to walk through a doorway, which I believe the standard (don't quote me on this) is 6'8". It must be terribly hard to be so far outside the norm, finding clothes, cars, furniture etc must be difficult and expensive. I hope he is a real good realtor, but no matter how well he does, I doubt he makes as much as a basketball player or other very large athletes. If I remember correctly, it was one of those episodes where all the houses were nice, and I did like the exterior of the one they picked, though I'm not sure it would have been my choice
  9. ^^ Long, but very interesting and entertaining. Thank you for posting
  10. I'd love this! Though I wouldn't mind a little bit of talk - I am always fascinated how the same dress can look great on one person and terrible on another, or how some styles flatter (or don't flatter) a particular figure and would appreciate some tips and some commentary as to why. But... as someone pointed out, that would be The Learning Channel, and we can't have that anymore :-(
  11. Today I saw two split-level houses described as ranches. I always assumed a ranch house was one that was only one level, with no stairs (unless they led to an attic or basement). I'm no expert, but I've seen all kinds of houses described as one style that I would definitely call something else. I guess everybody's turned into Alice in Wonderland's Humpty Dumpty, where a word "means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”
  12. FETV has a mini-marathon of 4 or so episodes every Saturday morning, I try to catch a few when I remember and I have the time. It's kind of funny, for the first few minutes of the show, I'm like, "This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen; I can't believe I used to like these so much." And then a few minutes later, I'm in the right frame of mind and enjoying the silliness all over again, lol. "The Monkey's Paw" episode just ended, and I have to admit I enjoyed it thoroughly
  13. Five inch lifts? I don't know much about lifts, but that seems like an awful lot. How exactly would that work, I wonder? Like the "elevator shoes" of old?
  14. I found myself rolling my eyes at Cora and her fiance - "Missed you!" "I missed you more!" "It's been so long since I've seen you, it feels like weeks!" I get it, no two people have ever been so in love. I mean, it's nice and all, I'm happy for you, but jeez, enough is enough already. I found it very tiresome and ended up ff-ing through the end of their appointment. Rain got a great deal, her dress was marked down from $6000 some to about $800, and I thought it looked lovely on her. I know it was staged, but it was nice Randy and the consultant whose name escapes me at the moment; I really should know it!- got to go to the wedding. I am terrified of heights and roller coasters and such and really felt for the consultant's fear of the Slingshot but am proud of her for going through with it. There is something to be said for facing your fears and living to tell the tale, and I'm sure she's a better, more confident person for it. Maybe next time I'm faced with a roller coaster I should consider giving it a try...
  15. Oh, I liked Mike's singing too; I just thought it was rather ironic how it all worked out :-)
  16. I just loved Micky; he was my largest childhood crush, lol. I find it interesting that the two actors who also sang - Davy and MIcky - did the most singing by far, and the two musicians who acted - Peter and Mike - sang very rarely.
  17. ^^ I was coming here to say just that, but gardendiva beat me to it, lol. What a contrast between the sullen, indifferent attitude and total lack of affect from the 600 lb show family, and the smiles and happiness and total encouragement shown by this family. I know with which family I'd prefer to hang with, plus Dr. Proctor (love the rhyming there) is pretty easy on the eyes too. Rooting hard for all of them, and I hope we get to continue to follow their journey
  18. Thank you so much for posting, Kris. I appreciate your answers and your honesty and would love to hear anything more you feel like telling us - very interesting! I am sorry that not everything has worked out how you might have wished, but very happy for the closure you have received and the new relationships you are working on. I certainly wish you and yours the very best going forward.
  19. Kudos to whoever thought up this thread title, by the way - very clever! My hat is off to you, well done :-D
  20. When Drew wears his yellow shirt with the blue pants, all I can think of is a child's drawing of the sun over the sea. So much bright yellow, so much bright blue. Also, Drew's unusual body type almost seems like he's already had the bariatric procedure and is now in need of skin removal surgery; I've never seen such a large, loose apron. I know all that is not very nice of me but I'm afraid that's where my mind goes. Drew does seem like a very nice person - they all do, they seem like a warm, fun and caring family. I hope they do well, I'm rooting for them all.
  21. I wore my mother's wedding gown, didn't even alter it. (A very pretty, simple tea length gown with a crinoline underneath, with long sleeves and slight beading on the bodice.) I believe it cost about $60 in 1959 when mom went by herself during her lunch hour and bought it. We held the ceremony in my husband's aunt's back yard under a rented trellis. A few snacks as it was an afternoon wedding. I think the cake was the most expensive thing - if I remember right, it cost about $150. The whole wedding came in for about $500 - my father was VERY pleased with me. Granted, I got married in 1988, but I simply can't imagine spending the money some of these brides do though I do seem to enjoy watching them and being appalled at their antics, lol.
  22. 678, I think. I was surprised, I thought he would be over 700 Oops, Pepper Mostly beat me to it!
  23. I didn't understand that GOAT thing at all. It plays your music? I have an mp3 player that does that, or I could do that on my smart phone instead. It takes pictures? So does my phone. It makes my dog "talk" (only not really)? People talk on their dog's behalf all the time, in real time and not in prerecorded(?) remarks. I don't think the dog would appreciate having all this noise so close to their sensitive ears anyway. They were marginally cute, I guess, but I couldn't see the need for something like that at all. I was surprised she got a deal. I have a short-haired pit/Dalmatian mix with zero body fat, so I understand the need for dog clothes. As in a sweatshirt or jacket, for warmth. Nothing is more unattractive to me than a dog in a dress for some reason. That just doesn't work for me, plus it's only for vanity/silliness rather than really fulfilling a need. I admit I enjoy the Facebook videos of dogs dressed up as "people" - arms, full costume etc but would never do that to my own dogs, even for a short while. Plus they are way too big for that kind of thing. But a lot of people really seem to enjoy doing that to their dogs, so I suppose there is a market for that one, whether I approve or not. I wish that just once someone would come in, ask for something like $499,000 for 9% and the sharks would say nope, not interested, just turn around right now without even getting to make your pitch and get the free advertising from appearing on the show. Some of these valuations are flat out ridiculous.
