  1. I think Quentin has been looking pretty hot this season, I was surprised how attractive he is, especially when he smiles or laughs. The "Behind the Scenes" clips on this episode are very funny, and I learned that all the voices are the actors' own. They had the choice of having their voice dubbed by another singer, or keep performing until they were satisfied with it. All of them chose to perform the songs themselves, even though Q admits he can't sing! The Kady actress said she had a background in both musical theater and burlesque...it shows. "Under Pressure" is one of my favorite Queen/Bowie songs (don't even remind me of the rip-off crap that was "Ice Ice Baby") so at first I thought, can they pull this off? I mean, it's hard to beat Freddie Mercury and David Bowie's voices. But I liked it! They made it their own, and I loved when Penny reluctantly joined in. Eliot, Kady, Josh, and Alice? have good voices. Q and Julia, not so much, but they did it. As for plot, I'm not sure why the demon was testing them, or why the key stopped working at the end, or why Penny was in the Underworld Library, or if Harriet survived the mirror bridge, or how Q figured out what they had to do.
  2. I liked the silent scenes with ASL only. But mostly I found the episode too confusing because I'd missed some of the beginning, and it seemed so fragmented. I'm very curious about why Cassandra looks like Alice.
  3. Penny in the suit is still pretty hot, but I miss my shirtless Penny.
  4. I agree with this description of Quentin's character and I also think he's pretty cute too.
  5. I was class of '90 in high school. So I remember a lot of the stuff in this show. The kids just didn't seem that realistic to me though. The kids and the parents all seemed so cringe-awkward. It also seemed like they were trying too hard to include all 80s-90s slang they could think of. Why isn't Luke smart enough to realize that the reason his dad didn't recognize him was because he left when Luke was 5 years old? How would he have recognized him? Freaks & Geeks was a better show. This was cute in some ways but just not compelling enough for me. I REALLY want Oliver's coat though.
  6. I hated Oasis too, especially when the lead singer said they were better than the Beatles. What a delusional jerk. Nirvana was OK but I liked Pearl Jam and Soundgarden better. I am nostalgic about a lot of 90s music. In spite of the soundtrack, though, this show just didn't feel "90s" to me. I graduated high school in 1990. These kids didn't seem to dress, talk or act like anyone I knew in high school. Pearl Jam even wrote a song called "Bee Girl" in tribute to the girl in the Blind Melon "No Rain" video. It's funny, I liked "Breakfast at Tiffany's" back in the day, but I now realize it's kind of a stupid song.
  7. That book sounds familiar. Was it a short story though? I thought there was a story about a gambler who dies and ends up in a casino where he wins all the time. Eventually, he gets really bored and asks to go to hell for a while just for variety. Then he's told that he's already in hell. Anyway, this is one reason why the conventional idea of what "heaven" is like sounds immensely boring to me. I'm kind of hoping for no afterlife, since I can't imagine what I'd want to do for all eternity that wouldn't get boring.
  8. I agree on the seafood and beer, which are both disgusting, but I can't get behind pineapple on pizza. Fruit does not belong on pizza! I also hate a lot of foods most people love, such as mushrooms, sushi, watermelon, and pumpkin pie.
  9. I have always been very much against Hawaiian pizza. I like pineapple, but NOT on pizza. The other bad foods were pretty funny too. Such a clever show! Each episode is a treasure. The Museum of Human Misery, Good Janet having to pretend to be Bad Janet, Jason and his Molotov cocktail, Michael figuring out how to solve the problem. On a totally shallow note, Jason was looking fiiiiiiiiinnne in that suit and hat. I laughed at the "holiday weekend at IKEA" which is one of my ideas of hell
  10. I loved Poe! One of the best characters by far in this show. And, good use of Edgar Allen Poe's poem "Annabel Lee."
  11. This is all an excellent summary of the series, and also you brought up some interesting legal & moral issues. Agree 100% about the stupidity of the pregnancy storyline -- in 400 something years from now, they don't have foolproof birth control? And I just don't buy that Miriam would so upset at a hooker with his baby, since she knows he goes to hookers all the time and doesn't seem to care. I read the first book, I might try reading the sequels to see where this goes. If there's a season 2, I really hope that Will Yun Lee will play Kovacs. I hope they could bring back Poe somehow, I loved him!
  12. I had thought Ryker was actually dead (real dead), then they explained about how Ortega was paying to save his body, so I guess he's in virtual prison? But somehow I forgot about that when she was sleeping with Kovacs...you're right, it is a kind of messed up situation and they didn't really address it. How much was her feelings for Kovacs and how much was it that she was missing Ryker? This was a good episode. At first, I thought I wouldn't like all the flashbacks, but they explained a lot that had puzzled me from previous episodes. And who knew that human ash could be so cinematic? As for their "cause", I could see both sides of the issue. Immortality would suck if it was only for the rich. But instead of getting rid of it, maybe Quell should have been working on ways to make it more affordable for everyone. So Rei's story about how she survived Stronghold was a bunch of B.S.? In reality they (Protectorate? Meths?) backed up her stack and put her into a clone and she's been with them this whole time? I like this show but sometimes I have to go back and watch scenes again to understand. And I had read the book years ago! But I don't remember a lot of this. I agree about Will Yun Lee -- I like Joel Kinnaman a lot but Yun Lee just brings a certain emotion to the character. Have you seen that body?? Joel Kinnaman is ripped. I'd be fixated on that body too.
  13. I can't remember what happened to that king that Elliot married? Or was going to marry? He got turned into a rat, then they fixed that and turned him human again...but what happened to his relationship with Elliot?
  14. I was wondering that too. I didn't like Kady's reaction. If someone you love dies, you would do anything to be able to see and talk to them again. Yelling at them doesn't make any sense. She's mad that he's an astral projection? He's dead and somehow she makes it all about her? Ugh Kady. And Julia, who was supposed to be helping Alice, also makes it all about herself. Of course. I liked seeing Elliot and Q living and loving together for a lifetime. I can't imagine, though, that they didn't give up on that mosaic at some point and try to get out of Fillory somehow. But at least they got a key that can control time? It's interesting that they now remember that alternate timeline. Poor Margo. She finally might have had a moment of happiness with her new husband, only to see him killed like that in front of her. It was pretty weird that the mother didn't have much reaction to her younger son murdering her older son. It seems that the fairy queen needs that army for something.
  15. She's back! She's alive! (Kovacs' badass sister!)
  16. I didn't really understand how people kept saying "A.I. hotels? No one stays in those anymore!" If that's true then why is the hotel still around? It's just been an empty building that no one has wanted for years? Seems unlikely in a crowded city where space would be at a premium.
  17. Me too. I still remember him as Mark Anthony in "Rome".
  18. I read the book years ago so I'm already familiar with the story and I'm curious to see how they do it as a show. I also like "noir Sci-fi" stuff like Bladerunner and I really like Joel Kinnaman. So I'm in. I agree that the first episode should have focused more on world-building and intro to characters and plot, and not so much on confusing flashbacks.
  19. If you like Joel Kinnaman, you'll like this show I think (my god, that guy has a really hot body)
  20. I think the demon was the same guy who played Death on "Supernatural." He's great at scary/creepy characters.
  21. No, I can't get behind this Penny-in-a-suit business. I miss this Sexy Penny, and want him back ASAP.
  22. I know! I totally got all the references in the code talk (although, I still think the musical episode was the best Buffy episode, followed by "Hush.") Adorable bunny messengers!
  23. Angela has gone full-on coo-coo for cocoa puffs. She has her own imaginary friend, that she talks to when alone in her apartment. Another clue was when she said to the person on the street, "We're ready" instead of "I'm ready." Who's "we", Angela? It's looking like a Darlene Deathwatch. Seems like Irving's going to have her killed, or try to. And now Grant (Whiterose's assistant/lover) is going after Elliot. Will someone die next week? Does Dom now finally suspect Santiago? How could she not at this point?
