  1. The Tigers hit 3 home runs in the 4th inning against the Yankees and one in the 5th. I love it!!
  2. The same for my father - also retired Navy. I went to a funeral at a small town cemetery for a cousin who had been a member of The Old Guard - Army soldiers who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. In that case they not only did a 21-gun salute they also did something called “echoing taps”. There was a bugler near the gravesite and a few bars into his “Taps” a second bugler a distance away started playing. It was chilling and incredibly beautiful. It still makes me tear up thinking about it all these years later.
  3. Is there anyone not employed by MLB or Apple who understands the randomness of games on Apple TV? I am a Tigers fan, but I am not going out of my way to watch a Tigers-Twins game in early April. And who the hell thought scheduling a game at 7 pm in Minneapolis in early April was a good idea? Back when they played in a dome, sure, but they have been in an open-air stadium for years now. The Tigers games against the Yankees this week have been moved up to 1 & 3 pm because it is supposed to be uncomfortably cold at night. But 7 pm a few hundred miles north of Detroit is a good idea?
  4. I am going to guess a Slenderman type of case.
  5. Surely the Yankees knew of his thoughts before they signed him.
  6. Bob Uecker (I always want to spell it euchre) is to Wisconsin what Ernie Harwell was to Michigan. One of those voices that so many associated with summer afternoons and evenings. Tigers radio broadcasts still don’t sound quite right.
  7. Maybe if they put all their efforts into one show instead of 3, the ratings would be better.
  8. Check out the Brookline Cake recipe above - 14 pounds of ingredients plus 3 dozen eggs (minus 4 whites). I couldn’t afford to make that cake.
  9. If you have an interest in old recipes/cookbooks and your library offers access to Hoopla search for “American Antiquarian Cookbook Collection”. If I am correctly interpreting the description, the cookbooks were all published prior to the Civil War. The following are from a cookbook titled “Tit-Bits”
  10. Hallmark+ is among the channels Roku is offering on sale until January 2. $1.99/month for 2 months.
  11. Roku is offering 30+ streaming channels for $1.99/ month for a limited time. Most offers seem to be 2 or 3 months at the sale price.
  12. The Hoopla service through my public library offers a “BingePass” of Hallmark+. You can watch as much as you want for one week.
  13. I was rather suspicious of some of the bakes that the celebrities presented. First they are saying they have never baked before, then they present a decently baked and nicely decorated cake. I couldn’t help but think that they had gotten some off-camera help. There were some bad bakes, but not the huge failures there should have been from self-proclaimed non-bakers who are working under a time constraint. JMHO
  14. Paul seemed happier/more lighthearted this season. Maybe he wasn’t a big fan of all of the ridiculous bakes of the past? I felt bad for Dylan; I had to keep reminding myself he is only 20, he looks so much older. I like the fact that the all seem genuinely happy for the other when they do well and sad when they do badly. It does my heart good to know that there are kind people like that out in the world.
  15. I really don’t see any difference in the way Kasie is written and the way Abby was written. Both experts in whatever field was necessary to help solve the episode’s crime.
  16. I don’t know what map the announcers are looking at, but Detroit is not “due west” of Cleveland - it is, in fact, a fair bit north as well.
  17. Coke and Oreo are two flavors that never needed to be combined. I am glad the cookies and pop were gifted to me, not purchased by me, but now what do I do with the rest of them.
  18. Figuring out how to watch a baseball game should not involve more work than writing a college research paper. An email from the Tigers “marketing staff” this morning just says the game will be shown on TBS. So which is it?! TBS, TruTV & Max? Or one of them? If only one, which one?
  19. The anchor lady on my local news says the Tigers series will be streaming on MAX, but an article I read said that only select games will be on MAX. Anyone have MAX that can confirm or rebut the availability?
  20. YES!!! Tigers sweep the Astros!!! Final score 5-2.
  21. I spent a few hours messing with an OTA antenna. It took trying tv’s in 3 rooms, with windows facing 3 different directions, but I finally got one that gets a local ABC station. YAY!! I am not a follower of the other major sports - do they also divide up the playoff games amongst so many stations/networks?
  22. Not going to happen! I feel bad for the Sox fans, it sucks to watch your team lose. And to lose soo many is just awful. As soon as the Tigers won, my own little orange & white tiger went nuts. Coincidence? I think not.
  23. I have been a Tigers fan my whole life, but if they were to move I think that would be the end. I would probably root for the “Toledo Tigers” (assuming the team went with a temporary home similar to what the A’s are doing) while the current players are still with the team. But, by the time they reach their permanent home in 4-5 years most of the Detroit Tigers would be gone and I just wouldn’t care enough to root for the Somewhere Else Tigers.
  24. Thank you, ProudMary! The only thing I can clearly understand, though, is that MLB really doesn’t want people to watch the postseason. I know I can stream ESPN and I might be able to get my local Fox and ABC stations on my antenna, but my god they are making it difficult.
  25. I cancelled my cable last month. Just in case the Tigers make the post season, what are my viewing options? Hopefully it won’t involve subscribing to half a dozen streaming services.
