The Alex Trebek news as it relates to his recovery totally made a fairly good week that much better. Was a little optimistic that it would trend that way, but not very optimistic at all
-
Yeah that sucked for Mahomes, and now he has to deal with life following being on the wrong end of two OT results. Though I really don't feel that bad since it looks like Kansas City will be okay for years to come, while Texas Tech could be very good going forward. It's more probable than not that TTU won't get back to this stage as there are so many teams that are good and you have to win 4-6 games before losing in order to be there in End City In the end, while one off night is all it takes to be done, Chris Beard has done well and IMO is the guy that will have the team in the conversation as being a team that can win it all. Of course, the coach will have to succeed before the typical thing of going a more prominent school happens!

Don't think it matters, IMO, whether Luke Walton was great because of Kerr or got hired because of his Dad or got an opportunity over a 39-4 record. I personally think he's pretty good. Not great at all but pretty good. I think the players in Golden State had more to do with Luke's success thank Steve Kerr. Either way however he got the job as HC or fill-in, it was unsuccessful for Walton and LA, and the man has to go. I think he can do well elsewhere. If he's allowed to return to G.S. when he's fired then with a do-over and the right team & circumstances it would be an improvement. The Lakers have just sucked over the past half-decade

As much as I feel sorry for the players I don't. Though I could say as much as I don't feel sorry for the players I do. I have to admit I'm in the group that's saying that the players that are now out of work weren't good enough to be in the NFL, and maybe should have something to fall back on. For example, their degree and/or a skill acquired prior to their professional career That being said, it sucks for the players. This league was never going to work. Total poor planning which could've been better. It's sad because people are unemployed; really while it was inevitable, it would have been nice if they completed their season Sorta hope Mr. McMahon changes his mind. Although I think he might figure out what went wrong and produce a more successful product IMO, the football fix is overrated. Several people mentioned this over the past couple days and during the AAF season, for your "football fix" you didn't need more football. The Combine, Draft, Hall of Fame, TV Shows, Drama, and Free Agency Period was more than good enough. Several people have said that the buildup and stories were better than the game! As much as I love football, the love has lasted due to management of viewing football. Post Superbowl it's over, and it's emotional. However, by August I ready to go back to football. No defense for the players having to pay for their flights home. I don't care whether it was obvious that the AAF would fail; that is messed up since it appears that it came as a total surprise, and it's still messed up
-
Just my opinion, but I guess it's safe to say or assume that the NBA didn't lose sleep over losing to the AAF in ratings (on February 9 during their big primetime game prior to the All-Stars)

It's a moot point, but it's not truly perfect until a 173-0 mark has been achieved! For me I'd get spoiled more often than not before hand but that's okay. It's not worth it especially when you consider a game could last until 5:00 AM EST or whatever. I could do without early games too, but it's tradition in terms of Opening Day and I personally can deal with AM sports anytime

While I agree about how Coach K should consider hanging it up I sorta hope he waits for about 4 years or so! I can't say that following what Coach Cal has done has been a total disaster for Duke. JMO; in a one-and-done tourney, there is a major difference between going out right away and losing right before end city to a great coach and a great program by one possession. However, like many other sports, when winning the title is the main objective, criticism is totally fair With whatever time Coach K has left I'm hoping he could mix seasoned players in with one-and-done players. At the end of the day upperclassmen are a better bet than ready for NBA players
-
Meh on Duke. Totally anything but a shocker that they went out. Sure it came close three times, but there was some fear that they would lose right away on March 22. But it was still a close game against a team that is very good. Either way, Duke being out is opposite of something I'd lose sleep over. I would love to see MSU/UVA as well, but I don't know if MSU can survive against Texas Tech. IMO, these games are going to be the most difficult games I've had to guess from in quite a while. Virginia has what it takes to knock off Auburn but they were blessed to defeat Purdue
-
Sorta wished I did, as I would have been 8-0 for the day (which means nothing by the weekend unless most of my picks hold at the very least)

Funny you mention the Pats. Similar to the two, for me the "hate" has died down and it's more of respect while saying "Man, that team does it again!" Zion won't be back next year, but the Blue Devils look to be positioned to win in four different decades and being relevant in five. It's the First Four segment of March Madness. Not really feeling the play-in 16 seed games. Personally, it sucks that a conference winner may end of losing before the real fun starts Thursday at noon. While it sucks for Temple, they were in a "fight-for-it" play in game where prior to 2011 they might have missed the dance by one. As a result, those play-in 11 seed games are more watchable IMO

Such painful news. Like others, I have total respect for Mr. Trebek. I really liked Alex's work outside of Jeopardy, as he was a solid member of the Goodson-Todman era before (and a bit after) becoming the Jeopardy host. I hope he's able to keep doing what he does but as mentioned, he deserves the proper send-off and retirement to be able to spend time with his family. Moreover, missing him on Jeopardy pales in comparison to one's life, so I'm wishing for a speedy recovery; take care.

Man, if the 2000 Baltimore Ravens played against the Rams today, the score would have been 30-3 with several defensive turnovers and scores
-
Should be 28-24 Pats but based on how & why they win, 65-0 Pats sounds more reasonable IMO Hope for a great game, but at least if it gets out of hand I can turn in early. Just like Superbowl 51 It's about time! As mentioned, it's amazing how the Pats are the only dynasty (between the Steelers, Niners, and Cowboys) that lack hall of famers, so apart from Ty Law being selected, we may be seeing Pats players start to get in before Brady and Bill get there (Seymour and Vrabel, Moss last year and Revis in 2023)
-
It's about time. Thought it would never happen!

Gronk? That might be just me, but a guy that acts the way he does, but still brings it and backs it up is worth it. I don't know if Rob is a first-ballot HOF but IMO he is a HOF'er. I think he'll need to play another 9 seasons at an average level at best (or maybe just 5 more) and be healthy for the most part to make it in his first year of eligibility. I don't know whether he'll get there, but I can't say I saw vintage Gronk returning this month either

Personally, I don't feel bad for St. Louis based on what you said. They do have a team in another sport that is similar to the Pats in terms of being relevant and consistent. Not to mention the ability to acquire premium talent within a division that includes teams that can't beyond a fan's control or even a team's control. As for the Rams themselves, there are several players on that team worth rooting for (some others not so much). Mainly Aaron Donald. Personally I'm glad to see him get to complete a season (meaning get to the Superbowl). I thought LA would have to wait another year or two especially given how it was all but impossible to win in the Superdome, and then next year have to worry about teams like Seattle, San Francisco if healthy, Philly and Chicago (in addition to New Orleans). Yesterday I "made" my pick on the Pats winning since it was immediate reaction and my pick before Week 1. However, I sorta might relax and wait until next Friday to make that official. New England (who has several players worth rooting for as well) has what it takes to beat everyone with anyone on all 3 stages of the game. The Rams just went into the Superdome and won, something that didn't really get mentioned. Sure Philly almost did it last week, but they were up 14-0 whereas LA was down 13-0. It'll be tough for the Rams to win, but I think it's very possible. They were the last team standing and have a complete team. Not really rooting for any team either, but not rooting against either team. I think Super Bowl LIII has a chance to be a great game and maybe the best in history. Maybe not beating Super Bowl XXV but I'm hoping for a good game and nothing like Superbowl XLVIII

Sucks for Gregg Williams but as mentioned, it was probably a blessing to part ways since the person that got the job was hired from within and was an assistant. Looks like despite the Steelers turmoil, they might not fall behind the Browns for at least a year. Barring change in Pittsburgh, it'll happen for sure. Might not be in 2019 but 2020, as Munchak didn't get the Denver job. Meanwhile, yet another step toward New England holding onto the AFC East crown for an entire calendar decade. They might regardless barring something, even had the Jets hired someone else, but I think Adam Gase can make it work in New York. They'll have a tough schedule though, and be a year or two away

Man, is Arizona dumb or what?! The franchise, not the state (in case I go down when my quote is lifted a decade from now thinking I'm dissing the Grand Canyon State when not really) Anyway, Arizona is dumb to fire a coach after one year with a rookie QB within a division that includes the LA Rams, a great team, and Seattle, a consistent and very good team. Then they replace him with a guy that sucked at Texas Tech. Good luck to the Cardinals because they are going to need it. BTW, San Francisco was awful due to losing Jimmy G & Sherman while a year or two away Arians to Tampa actually might help turn that team around. At least it's an improvement
-
Just so Jets to hire the guy I guess

Meh on Dallas winning. We'll see how well they can handle New Orleans next week. Yes, while I wouldn't be surprised at an Eagles victory, I can't see the Bears losing today. Great defense, great coaching, offense is okay, and it's the 96th birthday weekend of their owner. Of course, if Philadelphia wins two games, I think the Cowboys can take care of business in LA, which means they're probably Super Bowl-bound. The world would really love that, especially if New England upholds tradition as it has done so most years since 2014, save for 2015!

IMO, it's not so much the injury of someone that's gruesome; it's the talk of gruesome injury that has me disinterested in viewing it. That, and a lot of other things. That includes the emotions of family, friends, and teammates. And worse yet, it might be life-threatening. Torn ligaments and broken bones suck, but when there's an infection involved or something related, that's the part that gets me. Still sucks for Hurns And things suck for Seattle's kicking game. They might need it today, and probably would help next week too. However, if Seattle wins tonight, chances are that you'll probably need Russell Wilson more than you'd need Sebastian Janikowski in order to advance to January 20 and maybe February 3

Not a shocker, but LSU ended Central Florida's undefeaded streak. I guess UCF "didn't want to be there" We'll never know what would have happened if the Knights didn't lose their QB. Likewise, LSU wasn't their dominant self, so it evened out. Ed Orgeron doesn't seem like a guy that would treat the Fiesta Bowl like a diss to his team. It's not the playoff but it was still a great game and deserving so I actually liked their chances more than Auburn last year. Still what a run for UCF and they might have won had it not been for so many errors (although that 30-yard penalty to cut it to a one-possession game was a gift that without would've been dominance from the Tigers) Notre Dame does not suck, IMO. Can't defend them after their performance on Saturday, but it's against a team that might actually win outright next Monday and not to Ohio State or the early decade version of Florida State. I think they can handle the big stage but sometimes there's nothing they can do to prevent a disaster. It was awful but I think it would have been a bigger embarrassment with most other programs

I shouldn't be shocked that Marvin Lewis got fired, but I am since he should have been let go long ago but wasn't, and then it got to the point where Cincinnati would never let him go. The man doesn't get the benefit of the doubt to say that he was crushed with injuries and that's why they sucked this year. With that, it makes Tomlin the second-longest tenured active coach with one team. Unless they miss the playoffs next year (which is possible given how good the AFC North is projected to be), and then Harbaugh gets that honor Meanwhile, the coaches in Miami, Arizona, and Denver are now vacant as well. It's been a long time since Black Monday has been as advertised. All I need to see is if Sean McDermott gets booted and then it would add to what New England has done within it's greatness within the AFC East
-
Yes it would be. However, it would be fair enough based on how they handle changes to their coaching staff. People in the area were saying that they needed to make defensive changes last year, and possibly fire everyone on that side. However, they made no changes and as a result, they paid the price. To be fair, the defense did improve, but they blew leads in four out of their final 6 games where they actually had a chance to have hit a number 1 or 2 seed. This defense for the Steelers won't get the benefit of the doubt and shouldn't since they haven't earned it, but IMO, the fact that they blew it 4 times is connected to how awful the offense of the Steelers was down the stretch Therefore, there is no need to fire Tomlin unless he is unwilling to make any coaching changes. Sort of what happened with Mike Munchak in Tennessee. Speaking of Munchak, that would be another reason why you'd fire Tomlin: so he could take over. Probably the only in-house change that would be acceptable right now, since their recent ones have been pretty bad (Coach Randy, Keith Butler, etc). Personally, the only change that might help on the offense would be to boot Randy or move him back to QB coach and promote Munchak to OC. If Pittsburgh loses Mike Munchak they're done in 2019

IMO, McDaniels to Green Bay would be a nice thing. Josh vs Matt Patricia twice a year sounds nicer than it actually might be but I'm okay with that. Imagine working with the top two QB's within the most current era. That has to be a blessing. Plus, if McDaniels says no thanks last minute, they can actually have Joe Philbin be the guy (Aaron wants Joe to be the HC despite knowing whether he was serious) I agree with Caldwell & Pagano. Those two were top notch coordinators. Head coaching is not for everybody, but people can prosper not having to worry about both parts of football (offense and defense). Still think Caldwell got unlucky in Detroit but thinking about it twice if he couldn't take advantage of situations where Detroit could finally win a division, then that's on him
