This is spot-on. I felt so annoyed by the idea that this is probably what the show has set up. Plus he's already confessed his love to both those women, even flying to Germany once upon a time and also marrying Amelia and cohabiting after getting divorced, so yet another round of this.

I like Linc and Amelia together because the relationship has evolved naturally instead of feeling forced. To me, Jackson and Maggie, and Meredith and DeLuca, seem like forced couples. So do Contacts and HAOG. So did Callie and Penny (ugh). This relationship is believable. At first they get together for sex, and Linc is sweet on Amelia but she doesn't reciprocate. He's confident enough that he isn't too bothered and he continues gently pursuing her. By now, they are close friends. Perhaps the relationship will evolve into romance.

The name Yoda has, for me, become totally connected with the name of a cat I live with. So it was real weird to hear Bailey announce, "You came here looking for Yoda."

I agree totally. I guess it makes for better TV, but I had a lot of thoughts about this because two years ago one of my best friends was contacted by her son after giving him up for adoption more than 40 years ago. It was an entirely different situation and she actually had always hoped he would find her and get in touch. She had given up long ago though. He had always wanted to find her but was understandably hesitant. He approached her through an intermediary (a social worker, maybe?) and they waited for weeks before actually getting together. In the meantime, she did a lot of reading online about how these meetings tend to go, and was nervous because so many go badly. In this case, their meeting went exceptionally well and they have been in almost daily contact ever since. If only it could always be that way.

Or Young & the Restless levels, either. I wouldn't think they'd go there with Alex and Jo just because of how long the couple has been together and also because they actually are married. Although it did cross my mind during the Y&R story that perhaps a couple truly in love in that situation could stay together if they never have kids, if somehow they could get past the ick factor.

I've only ever seen the actor on Nashville, and I don't get any negative vibe from him. I did have to make a mental switch from gay to straight, though.

This episode highlighted how random so much of this show is these days. So many stories seem pointless, like Alex's mom showing up and then nothing important happens. DeLuca's dad shows up and the next thing we know, he's taking off again. I don't understand how he keeps the baby lambs alive when he's traveling? I would really rather see more concentration on characters who have been on the show a long time. The Amelia and Linc pairing was so out of nowhere that I had a hard time believing it, although it makes sense that she'd want some comfort through physical closeness, and Linc probably hasn't been getting any in a while.

Leo being brought back to Owen and Amelia seemed to me like a reflection of when Zola was brought back to Meredith, but it didn't feel as true to me. When Meredith opened the door to find Zola and the caseworker, I was in tears. Maybe some viewers expected that would happen, but I thought she was gone. Plus if I remember correctly, that episode had some wrenching events in it, so her return was especially startling. I had a hard time believing the grandparents would give up Leo, although in reading some of your comments here, I find it easier to imagine. They want to devote time to their daughter, and their daughter does not seem interested in Leo. If she wants to give him up for adoption, they will abide by her wishes. (Reminds me of "Mom" in which the teenage daughter decided to let her baby go to adoption.) The about-face just seemed so abrupt, I guess.

Heh, I totally forgot that storyline, although I'm always reminded of it when Catherine is called Catherine Fox. The whole thing seems ludicrous and cooked up out of thing air, so I guess I block it from my mind! I do think, especially with his salary, he could do what many people do when wanting to start a homeless shelter . . . get permission from the municipality, and then buy a large, older, low-priced home that needs some work, and hire a contractor to fix it up. Just a possibility.
-
I thought that was seriously inadequate. Jackson could've straight up bought a building and turned it into a homeless shelter. In the meantime, perhaps he could have set this older gentleman up in respite care.

I couldn't agree more. I thought that was terrible advice, and it kind of came out of nowhere. Sure, it sounds romantic, but the patient didn't know Meredith at all or what she needs.

That yanked me right out of the story. There were all these green leaves! It looked like May or June!

I totally agree. The cast usually seems so bloated and I would guess that most viewers don't have much interest in most of them. I got to thinking later last night that this more streamlined version of the cast works so much better. They could take a push broom and sweep out Glasses, Schumer, all the other interns, HAOG, Linc and even DeLuca. I never thought of any of these people even once during the episode.

I agree with this. It was an emotional moment that probably deserved a bubble episode. Although Thatcher has mostly been AWOL through the entire series, he's also one of the fundamental characters in Meredith's story. This particular part of the story didn't need to be combined with the surgery plot. I actually liked most of this episode. I even liked the dance scene, although it was probably kind of silly . . . but I liked the meta aspect, similar to Sara Ramirez singing "The Story."

I'm baffled as to why an adult wearing glasses is viewed as such a bizarre oddity.

I think it would have been tougher to include new footage of George, Mark, Lexie and Derek since they would all have aged, although the effects could be digitally softened. I figure they wanted to create new footage of the dog because they didn't have anything of the dog in the hospital. Even if the CGI was somewhat off, I still thought it was well done. Early on, I expected Derek would show up, but then I forgot about the whole thing, and I was startled to see George. They surprised me with that. Also, I thought it seemed pretty clear that this wasn't Meredith reminiscing, but rather that these people and the dog were actually there. For a moment, she thought she heard Derek say "hey," because he really did. And I loved it that they included the dog!

Does anyone know a link to the cast for this episode? IMDB has it goofed up. I was racking my brain trying to figure out where I had seen the liver transplant woman before or someone who looks a lot like her, and I think it could be Tracie Thoms (Cold Case). IMDB has her listed as playing Robert Gibbs. What?

I thought the story about the young woman with the lunchbox was very contrived. As soon as she said "lunchbox," I knew the problem would be connected with that somehow. But I have to admit I was thinking more along the lines of Dr. House figuring out a professor kept getting sick because his ceramic coffee mug contained lead.

I thought this too, she was getting noticeably bigger hour by hour. Weird.

I just had Roseanne on for a bit as I thought The Middle started at 7 pm, and there was Richard Webber! I had no idea James Pickens Jr. had been a semi-regular on the show when it originally was airing. -
Just want to say that IMO, Calzona shippers might have accepted any of the subsequent relationships if there would have been any chemistry or magic whatsoever. There really was nothing, especially when compared to the level of early Calzona magic. And that's a major problem with Jackson and Maggie too.

ON 5/18/2018 AT 12:05 PM, PROSERPINA65 SAID: I actually hate that they're taking a character who was an avowed atheist and making him go on some spiritual journey. Some of us have serious things happen to us and our loved ones, and yet we still remain unconvinced of the existence of a higher power. --------------------------- This is believable to me because of the way it played out that particular day. Jackson sounded so mad when he was bargaining with this God he doesn't believe in but April does. Like, "OK, fine -- you save April, and I will believe." Then he was shocked to discover this prayer seemed to actually work. He has to stick with his bargain and at least give belief in God a try now.

I personally don't find it awkward at all. It seems totally natural. For instance, Bailey's ex-husband gets mentioned occasionally but we don't see him. I assume Meredith and Cristina are in regular contact even though Cristina lives far away. This seems like reality to me. It's why I've always griped about them killing off Mark. He could've simply transferred to a different hospital because he didn't want the constant reminders of Lexie.
-
The idea that there aren't any stories to tell for April anymore? That would have been a fascinating story. Even perhaps a natural progression from her crisis of faith to her renewed faith to finally actually falling in love with Matthew, and his forgiveness of what she did. But no.
