  1. Yes, because she's so scrupulously truthful.
  2. I think there must be a lot of stuff we're not seeing.
  3. I swear, watching these shows (and Intervention and some others), you'd get the impression that families that don't molest their kids are the minority. The world is full of pervs.
  4. Well hell, I don't want them either. I eat them because I know they're good for me. The food industry has spent a ton of money creating highly-palatable food. Swiss chard just isn't as good as Doritos. (Oh, go ahead, lecture me about how awesome Swiss chard is. I'll wait.) I get my 5-a-day fruits and veg, but if tomorrow it turned out that fruits and vegetables are terrible for your health, I'd probably stop eating all of them except bananas.
  5. All the counseling in the world isn't going to solve this family's problems.
  6. It was actually kind of ingenious to have the hose connected to the hot water from the washer.
  7. Did y'all notice that this new episode is THREE HOURS long? I sure hope it's got some significant content.
  8. On the other hand, they'd each be pretty debilitated for the first several weeks and they would need a third person to go get the pain meds, the protein drinks, etc. But it does seem like it would be much more interesting to spend some time analyzing the family dynamics rather than spending 20 minutes on watching people drive to Houston.
  9. So, everyone else in the household works for pay, but Michael sits around like a leech and is abusive to everyone else. Lovely.
  10. Seriously, they're trying to milk drama from a traffic jam?
  11. Okay, Powers That Be, the travel to Houston is really not drama at its finest.
  12. And they did actually address the money issue a little -- maybe they're tired of us complaining. The niece's husband was working remotely, and the niece's mother (Diana's sister) was sending money to help. And as someone noted earlier, Diana worked for years. She didn't have a family to support so maybe she had some significant savings.
  13. The bariatric surgeons in my area run support groups for the patients and strongly encourage attendance. Seems like it would help Diana get to know people in town and feel less alone.
  14. I don't blame her. Sometimes you want to help, but you don't realize exactly how hard it's really going to be.
  15. Aren't there any swimming pools in Houston?
  16. "But she's 56 now" Hey hey now! 56 is the new 36.
  17. FFS, Nowzaradan, since when do you complain because the family is being too supportive? The woman's lost 100 pounds! This is new; he never would have done this in earlier seasons.
  18. Maybe the husband can work long-distance?
  19. She mentioned the bedpan in the van.
  20. So far, she's so much more likable than the last few.
  21. Hey, they actually mentioned lipedema! We'll see if Dr. Now deals with it appropriately. Seems like it's actually lipo-lymphedema.
  22. Dr. Now said it was cellulitis, which isn't contagious.
  23. That was the late '50s, early '60s, actually. I have to smile sometimes when I'm on these forums and people earnestly insist that "20 years ago they didn't know about heroin addiction!!" (or therapy, or rape, or whatever.) 20 years ago was 1997, and yeah, we did. And also 1977. But it's also true that we haven't made as much progress as we should have, and people STILL blame rape victims. It's a long battle and it hasn't yet been won.
  24. If you do a search for bariatric incontinence supplies, you'll see that they do sell them. "Fits waists up to 106 inches". Interesting. Not a great family dynamic. And refusing to speak to your daughter is just childish and dysfunctional. Why not sit down with her and talk about enabling behavior?
