  1. Krista Vernoff is back, and Grey’s is all the better for it. I appreciated everything you mentioned, plus Mama Hunt’s return. Continuity was excellent, and the pacing was on point. The outdoor Seattle scenes (real and SS) were much appreciated. We had the first mention of Montana since it happened. I hope this is a harbinger of a good season 14.
  2. If they're going to have a new intern class this season, then I'd like to see Sloan Riley (Sloan) as one of the interns. With the time jump, she'd be 27, so it's within the realm of possibilities. The daughter of Mark Sloan would most likely cause ripples if not waves for Meredith, Arizona, Webber, Bailey and Jackson. I'd also like a small arc with the return of Callie and Sofia. (No Penny, please.) Addison is welcome at any time, as far as I am concerned.
  3. I'm actually cautiously optimistic if Krista Vernoff is indeed new showrunner & head writer. She wrote several of my favorite early GA episodes: "Into You Like A Train", "Six Days" (the George's dad 2-parter), "I Am a Tree" and the two opening episodes post-George's death. She also wrote both GA/PP crossovers. I've always felt she wrote male characters (George, Burke, Mark) better than the other writers. It will be interesting to see what direction she has in the upcoming season for Riggs, Jackson and Warren. She knows Meredith and also Amelia really well. And in the event that Callie ever make a return, she knows that character quite well, also.
  4. Esophageal cancer surgery would be performed by a thoracic surgeon. The esophagus is part of the thoracic cavity. My father is a retired cardiovascular - thoracic surgeon, so Maggie's presence is consistent with what I remember about his practice.
  5. I was spoiled, but didn't realize going in, that this was that episode. The fact that our Narrator opened with a vignette from Michael's life, and not that of Jane Gloriana Villanueva gave me pause. It was a good episode with some great moments. The recreation of Jane & Michael's first date was as magical as anything I've seen on television. It felt real. And even though I am #TeamMichael, I can accept his heartbreaking demise for the sake of the story. (see what I did there.) What will be tougher is accepting no Brett Dier, no fantastic chemistry between Gina and Brett on my screen each week, and most of all, no #brogelios. In that way, it mirrors so many senseless losses we all bear in our real lives. We can eventually accept death, but we can't so easily accept the hole in our every day existence caused by our loved one's passing. It won't be so easy, but I want to see the rest of Jane's story
  6. With all its flaws, I still enjoyed the episode. I didn't need to multitask whilst watching. A good stand alone.
  7. I read that as "reptilian Owen baby drama". No wonder Amelia's stayed away for two weeks.
  8. Only Kepner can sing a lascivious song and make it sound like a hymn. I liked this ep much better than the premiere.
  9. Oops, wrong thread. Going to the Callie thread.
  10. I've hinted this before over the last few months, but since the original cast of Broadway's hottest ticket will have their contracts end in July, it would not surprise me if SaRa is cast in it as either the supporting role of the three females in the cast (a fantastic role), or the minor female role (which is dual, but has a huge number that I can hear SaRa making epic). She could have the female lead, but vocally I do not hear her there. I find it painful to consider that Mark was killed off because he would never leave Sofia, but Callie would consider uprooting or leaving Sofia for a relationship. This S12 Callie is not the Callie I have come to know and love.
  11. I thought the Tupac reference ("All Eyez on Me") for an Ep title was amazing, but the two new episode titles just announced being Morrissey and Merle Haggard songs, respectively, are blowing my mind.
  12. I''ve felt since the winter break that SaRa will leave the show to go back to Broadway. There are two big shows here. that will either have or conceivably have the perfect role for her, come summer or early fall. That being said, I would hate to have Callie move away with Penny, just because of the inauthenticity of breaking Sofia away from Arizona. If they couldn't write off Mark Sloan leaving Seattle because he would never leave Sofia, then why would they do that to Callie? And I may be the only viewer who likes Penny, but she & Callie feel false as an established couple. I prefer Penny as buddies with Steph, Jo & Ben.
  13. Yes. Grey's episodes are almost always named after a song. "All Eyez on Me" is a Tupac song from the album of the same name.
  14. I'd go one step further and say that the dialogue could have been written for Bailey, or even Alex or Owen, just as easily for Callie. It was so generic w/r/t divorce proceedings. To me, the point of that scene was to further illustrate April's demeanor.
  15. Her chemo port was infected, and she developed sepsis.
  16. Nora Zehetner may be the one actor that Shonda couldn't stand and so she reflected it by her death.
  17. Since others have suggested that SaRa could be lured back to NY, I've felt for a couple of months that this is extremely likely. I can think of at least two prominent Broadway roles she could step into when those particular Bway contracts expire this summer. With JCap's pregnancy, I could see a Calzona reunion to write them both out later this season, but allow them to come back for the series finale. I would also not be surprised if JW leaves.
  18. Bailey dated the "gasman", anesthesiologist Dr. Ben Warren. Of course, then he decided to apply for a surgical residency. And we all know the rest of the story. I think even Mark Sloane's last gf, Julia, was an surgeon, in ophthalmology or similar. They all seem to be surgeons....
  19. I was being facetious with my comment regarding Leah. But seriously (and lazy writers aside), anyone no matter what income they have can become cash strapped for myriad reasons, and a lot can happen in a year.
  20. Arizona may be cash strapped if during the time jump Leah sued her, and Arizona is either paying a judgment, settlement, or attorney fees for defending a frivolous lawsuit.
  21. Seems clear to me that Shonda wanted a series finale in the pocket in the event ABC did not renew for season 12. As another poster said up thread, it also is a soft reboot. I didn't love this ep, but I didn't hate it, either. And I adored that scene with PD on the ferry.
  22. Upfronts are an industry thing. Purpose of the upfronts is to gain advertisers ($) and promo to the press in advance of the upcoming season. For Grey's, it's critical to be forward looking to demonstrate that the show still has life & compelling stories to be told during Season 12. If I was an advertiser, I'd want to ensure that my adverts would be seen by the largest number of my target demographic.
  23. Yes, I remembered seeing the flashbacks (or similar flashbacks) in Private Practice. I can imagine the casting call for a man and a boy, each with thick, luxurious hair. I actually liked this episode, and the last two, quite a bit. The married couple patients-of-the-week actually brought me to tears, because for once it was something less fantastical, and could logically happen to anyone. I thought Owen was a complete shitheel in his treatment of Amelia, although I agree it was to get Derek back as Chief of Neuro. The last scenes at Alex's house were old school Grey's, and the toast to George was appreciated. I also liked the mention of Callie and Alex's one-time sexscapade. "we're all related through sex."
