  1. The whole Madonna discush is hilarious to old me. Julianne was channeling Madonna so hard that before she opened her mouth I was going to myself, self Madonna is two years older than you, that can't be her, who is it, Madonna's breasts are not that small, who is it" Then she opened her mouth and went, self, you are a numpty. The reason we don't get to hear the bottom 2 is that generally they are making up their scores for reasons that aren't to do with who is actually in the bottom or top and they need to preserve their narrative. If we can see what they are doing, the jig would be up.
  2. Apparently Ariana was dressed as a harpy. Not sure what Pasha was dressed as. Zeus? Oedipus?
  3. I don't like much about Julianne but I think she is doing a fantastic job. The opening little number with her and Alphonso <sp?> was actually cute and not boring or too much. I also feel that she is increasingly participating in writing her lines -- the diction and emotion is all Julianne.
  4. Well, as a certified Disney hater, trust me, I'm not fond of Crying night, even when they apparently dulled that down to Emotional night. I like nights that are about dance and music, not corporate shilling and emotional manipulation.
  5. I think they've had so many very annoying women in what is now the airbox role that I have precious little tolerance for any of it. After a while, I liked Erin, despite her often stupid script, but I couldn't really listen to her either. I've no doubt from the occasional bits of Julianne that I've heard that she is bringing a new perspective to some of it, but this many seasons in, it's all much of a muchness. And I've loathed Julianne's fame whoring for so long that it's hard to pay attention when she's actually doing something she's pretty qualified to do. Bruno was reasonable and entertaining at one time, but they've Mary Murphied him into oblivion by insisting that he stand up and screech alliterative or allusional nonsense at every couple. I wish I liked him still.
  6. The comments about Disney night being tired warm my cold hard anti-Disney heart. I thought it was tired the first time I saw it. Having Mickey and Minnie heads next to Alfonso all the time was just stupid -- they do NOT have the charm, such as it is, of the cartoons. However, there is nothing worse than inserted animation in a live show. Also, all the Disney ads! Good god. I know they own the show, but it's all so very done and it often doesn't do many favours to the dancers - that mickey ears sorcerer's hat yikes, the candle outfit double yikes. How about disco night? Emo night? New romantics night?
  7. I ff through a lot of Disney night usually because blech. Did the dance for Len happen or is it next week? If it happened, can someone tell me where in the show? Why were Barry's scores so very low? Did I miss something? I just feel he isn't being marked particularly fairly.
  8. I often find it tedious when others comment about how lacking the music is, but holy geez they murdered some songs. That version of "Dancing in the Streets" was so not motown to my ears and there were a couple of other songs unjustly handled. Loved that Alfonso and Julianne joined in, but agree that it should not happen every single show. I like so many of the dances and dancers that it's hard to narrow down to faves. This is an awesome dancing cast. I only know who two of them are, and Barry was way undermarked last night and Alyson needs to work a whole lot harder. It was a good choice for a style of night - full of energy and nostalgia. Now on to the hideous Disney night...
  9. I was impressed by Barry's hip movements in a short section that the camera really did no favours to. Not stiff at all.
  10. Can't remember who Bruno "sevenned" like Len to, but it made me happy. Also, I think there is already no doubt that Alfonso and Julianne are very good hosts for this show. I ff through a lot, but I wasn't seeing the same kind of line flubbing as last week. Also, Alfonso's suit. I'm really happy to have the show feeling so much about the dancers rather than the host's ego and just so much more fun.
  11. OMG Mark's hair! Gorgeous hair, but doesn't really suit him. That was a real stop the damn recording and go back to look again moment.
  12. I thought the whole show seemed a little shaky, but I enjoyed the HELL out of Tyra being gone. TBF the show's producers made quite a number of other eff-ups in that time period, but she made me stop watching the show. Alfonso continually calling out to Tom by saying "Live" in a strange manner might get old. He needs to be himself. Julianne was meh (as per usual, my opinion, ever since Apolo) and I would like it if she stumbled over her lines a lot less.
  13. Everybody talks about the characters but what stood out for me was the art that went into the feel of the show - the music and scenery were totally compelling and contributed hugely to my enjoyment. I thought they diid a good job of role calling the whole ending whether it is the end or not. I'm so very sorry this show has not received the support it deserved.
  14. Y'know Cop shows are not my area of expertise (I can't watch costume shows) so I just enjoy the hell out of watching a good one. I really like the protagonist (and many of the ensemble) so much in this, that it'll take a lot to budge me (although I AM budge-able - Nathan Fillion, I'm giving you the side eye). So I just wanted to pop into here and say, wow that was such a fun show! I enjoyed every minute.
  15. Can't really remember anything about the show because traumatized by the cold clear lights on Richard Kind's pencilled-in eyebrows and super-black dyed hair against his palpably old white skin. Who was doing lighting? Who approved that shot?
  16. Lise and Vincent did seem more professional than many of the American contestants usually are. True of a lot of people on that season of SYTYCD Cda. It was a different show. I keep thinking back to some of the early fun in this show - real picking out of a hat and judges who said critical things and much less packaging on contestants and less pretense that the show is about the judges. It was somewhat more authentic/organic and that made it more magical.
  17. I love this style of African Jazz, more Ailey and contemporary. It can get cringey. I think I remember this is Sean Cheesman too. He did some awesome stuff on SYTYCD Canada.
  18. Essence has a stronger camera presence than COMFORT? Well, this should be an interesting show to watch, looking for that. I think Comfort chooses her level and Essence is on. But Comfort melts the camera here and when the dubstep hits, OMFG:
  19. Well, she thinks she's inventing something that happened on Season 1 of the show with Allan who was a much better dancer than Beau and I would say, bigger. Tedious.
  20. I'm in the middle of watching the epi and came here to comment that the judging on the Essence-Keaton-Alexis number from JoJo seemed like a direct battle response to Twitch's take-down of Beau the dance earlier. And other than that, so far I'm enjoying the dances. There is no tension to this format. Beau shouldn't have made it into the top 20, I don't care what JoJo thinks.
  21. And, at this point, why? It's not like there is the same adulated shipping going on that occurred when they kept the top twenty in somewhat strict couples for the top ten (which I enjoyed, and miss) and it's not like adulated shipping couldn't happen irregardless. I mean, they've done what they can to sap this show of anything worth watching -- I feel badly for the contestants. Big Judge outfits are stupid. Carter's pants were the most egregious costume flop I've seen on this show in all of its seasons. Good god.
  22. Here is Jess interviewing Comfort about it in 2020:
  23. Jessica was Will Wingfield's partner. I felt their brilliance was overlooked a lot of the time. He was so amazing. She was very very good and that was rarely acknowledged. They mostly got crapped on for this number, for example, which was all kinds of amazeballs at the time, 2008? (it always struck me there was something dance-political about that diss). Unfortunately, there isn't a very clear copy of it up on youtube - starts at 2.28 after the mini pkge and the choreo (TWO MINUTES+ show, jus'sayin'): Will Jess Hip Hop Anyhow, Comfort was booted top 10 and then replaced Jess immediately when Jess had an injury. It was great for Comfort. She went from demonstrable strength to demonstrable strength in the last 10.
  24. I'm there for Comfort any time she shows. Look at how far back she goes and look at how amazing she has become. I think it's so cool that they still want her when they almost tanked her. Still sorry for Jessica King though. I like Lex too. The rest were fairly non memorable to me.
