  1. That was bad writing, bad acting, bad directing. Just bad. I ffed through more than half of that show. WTW?
  2. Re: Bristol - not being American, I may have the timelines confused. But I find it unethical to lecture/promote/shame people into celibacy as birth control and good moral behaviour whilst clearly doing the opposite myself.
  3. It's kinda interesting how often Lindsey gets the patriotic package. Isn't this her 4th or 5th time?
  4. I wonder if this is purposeful. Spicer's run on the show will not be shortened by SNL publicizing and attacking him. They can wait until he's off the show and then do it.
  5. I just skipped through the show (I boycott Disney wherever possible) and watched the ending. One thing that seemed funny to me, maybe it was a demonstration of the super small amount of time between seeing and hearing? - was that Kaitlyn seemed to react to their announcement a millisecond before it happened. It was nice seeing the show back, but somehow it lacked excitement for me this year. That may be on me and not on the show because I can't think of any big reason why.
  6. Is there seduction in "Wicked Game"? Is there (slightly metaphorical) seduction/rape by a stranger in Little Red Riding Hood? Yes. Doesn't seem that far off to me - I've seen far worse disconnects. (Snakes dancing the Time Warp, anyone?)
  7. Now that I've had all your recommendations, I've ffed through the show. I loved the potential of Kate and Pasha's rumba (interesting that Disney allowed the darker subtext (Bruno Bettelheim) through - they usually like to sugar up fairytales -- maybe they don't know it or they think nobody else does? I guess they don't have a famous "Little Red Riding Hood franchise to protect) - great song for it and their costumes were pretty lovely. Such a shame (and understandable) that Kate wasn't more confident with it - I'd really like to see it danced by someone who was sure of themselves and could do the feeling of abandon that it required.
  8. I'm watching so little of the show at this point - basically I come on here and if people seem to agree that they saw a good dance from a couple AND I like the couple, I watch it and nothing else. So, frinstance, this week I will be watching James and Kate. It's only about 7 minutes of my time. Very disappointing that the new show runner is such an idiot -- I was really hoping for changes that sparked my interest, but I find the changes rather dull and uneventful. I wouldn't be watching at all if I didn't like participating in this forum so much and I'm not sure how long that can keep me PVRing.
  9. I think the show uses the voting numbers to set their advertising rates, so I imagine they don't care who is actually watching so much as how many votes they're getting. It's very interesting to compare to Battle of the Blades (figure skaters partnering hockey players (our A and B-list celebs, here in Canada)) which allows ONE vote per day and where the couples are competing on behalf of charities (which means that the charities take the place of your president and Bones exhorting people to vote). It's a much more feel-good show these days.
  10. Oh and can someone tell me who B2ed with Colton?
  11. Annoyingly, I just discovered that my PVR recording of BoB was some episode of Dragon's Den, so whichever CBC channel I was recording did something strange with their sched. I can't bear the ads, so I only watched 4 skates and didn't get to see anything else or hear the judges. Gotta say that I was more impressed with Natalie than I have been, but she does still skate like a hockey player. That is an excellent characterization. I wonder how Andrew felt about being on that side of a lift. I wish Bruno were more personable in his skates, because he is a very graceful skater and I wish people had warmed up to them as a couple more. I find them very impressive. Sheldon still blows me away with his ability at his age and with his body type. He's a real performer. I wonder what injuries he's battling (they all must be at this point) because I would also say that he's treading water a bit. Haven't cared about the other couple at all throughout the show and still wish that McGrattan was here instead of him. As I don't know either of them, this is pure superficial feelings about which one I like more.
  12. Wow. She's young (and developmentally, I'd say she's a year or two younger than her 21 years) and likely physically and mentally exhausted. This idea that because you are rich, everything is a bowl of roses and you have to perform (I mean perform in the sense of projecting a life here, not dancing) blissed out happy all the time is weird. Having a yacht does not make someone impervious to disappointment and overwhelm. I can't even imagine what the logic of that equation is. I hope Sailor isn't reading social media this week. The judgements from people who don't know her and don't know her circumstances but think they are experts on how her life is/should be are fairly intolerable to read if you aren't Sailor, but if you are... It's not like she's done something evil or preposterous or unkind even. She couldn't get her emotions under control -- it happens.
  13. I would really like to see this I'm afraid (well, about 15 seconds of it actually) I'm not usually one for the train wreck dances, but he deserves the humiliation, even if it isn't overt.
  14. I went to a dance camp once - we danced our feet off for a week -- came home every night and put our feet in buckets of ice water. We were so physically and mentally tired for prepping for a performance on the Friday night, when we'd started rehearsal 5 days earlier, that when my dance instructor gave me a note of correction (something I was plenty used to getting), I, a totally boring middle of the road kinda person in my 40s, cried without being able to stop for 2 hours (and then danced, gah). So I don't fault Sailor for her uncontrolled reaction because there is every chance she is also feeling physical limitations.
  15. I sort of gathered there was a weight difference with Meaghan, but actually I was not shocked by that, it was how different her face looked. I missed her intro, but when they said her name I'd been staring at her thinking I'd never seen this person in my life before and then I thought that's not the Meaghan Duhamel I know, there must be another one. Anyhoo, kudos to her for the insightful commentary no matter whether she is a space alien masquerading as Meaghan Duhamel or not.
  16. I found Meagan completely unrecognizable, even once I figured out who she was. She gave great commentary though, she was truly interesting to listen to. Bruno and Katje were so beautiful. Sheldon and Kaitlyn seemed to have fallen a notch - I felt that he was missing a lot of details from his performance.
  17. Which is only ONE aspect of how horrorshow the Disney religion is. That was one long and not-very-successful ad, so far as I'm concerned. Disney is NOT magic -- nothing like. Disney is a massive corporation and it blows my mind that people will consume their advertising copy, world view and many many products as if they provide a higher purpose. Gah. Sorry - it just revolts me every time.
  18. I'm still disappointed that McGrattan went rather than Colton. I thought he had a lot more potential. Because I know NOTHING about hockey players, I wonder if there's a popularity edge between the two that I don't understand.
  19. As I pretty much loathe Disney (message and marketing), I would be super happy if they'd drop Disney night. I agree that many of them are pretending to be so chuffed to dance to these tunes, although it doesn't hurt the contestants to be associated the brand because the general social attitude to the monolith is worship, even for just a minute and a half.
  20. Given that she was probably told to behave like that and possibly didn't know that it would earn her a lecture from Bruno (or was he told to do that, too?), I'd also be pissed.
  21. Super glad that somebody finally mentioned that the audience is told to cheer and boo loudly. I think they should back off the loud booing. It's stupid.
  22. Arg - it's annoying that Colton bottom 2-ing seems to have brought out his fans (who don't seem to have actually watched his skate) to save him and thus we lost McGrattan and Vanessa who were a much better pair. Interesting that Ekaterina has bottomed again. I believe the year she won, she bottomed out a number of times. I think it's really lovely and funny that the crowd sheers uproariously for Ron Maclean doing that teensy jump and landing in a crouched arabesque (everybody in the audience knows how hard it is to do that, unlike some sports). And it's funny that CBC knows it makes for good viewing to watch him and Kurt do routines together. Every third thing out of Ron's mouth is complete gobbledy-gook to me. I notice Colby heading in that direction too. Loved to see Marie-France. She sure gave very specific and thought-out advice to each couple. I was a huge Bourne and Kraatz fan, but when Marie-France and Patrice came along I just became totally conflicted. They had such chemistry and such grace and style. I'm so glad that they are still occasionally viewable doing this kind of thing. I feel they were sometimes underrated and overshadowed in their competing lives, but that has come right now as they get so deservedly famous as choreographers and coaches.
  23. I can't understand, given that there is no elim in the 1st show, why they just can't base the elim in the second show on the votes and judges scores from the first. This system is stupid and devalues their brand (an activity they seem to have pursued often).
