  1. Re-watched Season 10. Remember the challenge where the contestants had to design for a child for Heidi's children's collection, and then had to 'sort of' design for their mothers, with the mother's outfits not really counting in the final score? Christopher had to design for an adorable little girl and her somewhat demanding mother. Sonjia said something along the lines of -- totally deadpan -- "You need to just get your shit done and not worry what Miss Mary J. Blige thinks." Oh god. It was great.
  2. I just rewatched Season 11. I'm no Michelle fan, but I'm trying to nail down how I feel think about her. She's not horrible. Horrible is reserved for people like Helen. Though I do think there's some stuff 'off' about her. It really turned me off how afraid she acted of dealing with Patricia -- based on very, very little -- and acted like Patricia was a pariah with cooties or something. She really looked down on Patricia. And that made me look down on her. Her only saving grace in this situation was she was never outright mean, or a bully -- she 'bulled' Patricia to the camera, only. She has a very odd 'accent' or speech pattern. She over-enunciates every word. It's a bit irritating. I think the positive thing about her is that she really gets excited about her own art and the things she likes -- I think that rubbed off on Amanda in a good way. I'll reserve judgement for this All-Stars season.
  3. Regarding the incredibly offensive and stupid line about Cary being gang-raped being 'hot'. The Good Wife writers have this extremely long history of writing women who are the worst, most disgusting flirters ever. Remember Tammy? ("Don't fall in love with me, K?" While falling very hard in love with Will.) Ugh. Such horrible memories. It's like the one positive of Will dying is to be rid of all those gross women who used to "flirt" with him. I think I just block it out now, but that gang-rape line was especially bad. Seriously this stuff is an insult to women everywhere.
  4. I haven't used Uber before. If an Uber driver briefly detoured into Indiana and came back to Illinois, would this somehow show up on an Uber receipt?
  5. Yeah, but Dmitry and Fabio have something in common. They are both Season 10 designers. Something about that particular season, the casting worked out really well for my tastes. Something about them all being around the same age and (kind of) complementary personalities - I say "kind of" because of Elena - made it one of the most overall fun and likeable casts in my opinion. It was one of those seasons where the "villain" of the season (the strongest personality being Elena IMO -- I'm going to ignore Ven) was one of the most harmless villains in my opinion. A villain who was kind of loved-hated by the other designers instead of just hated-feared. I thought the combo of those top 10 designers - minus Ven - were a very likeable, young, hip, attractive cast without hateful or horrible personalities. (Sonjia and Gunnar also being part of that crew.) I would honestly pay for a version of this show without Helen.
  6. I came here just to say this , so thank you. Bradford's black gown was sexy and well done. I loved it. Better than a lot of PR contestants and he had a better attitude too. I loved his personality and I loved his mom's. She was so real. She wasn't kidding when she said she was a realist. I adored her. That being said, I felt weird watching this show. The spoiled kid terrified and disturbed me. I'd love it if it was fiction but it feels mean to hate on a kid which is what I was kind of doing.
  7. I actually thought the episode was amazing. There were a lot of great moments and I was laughing a lot. I thought the dynamic between Vanessa Bayer as the Rom Com expert and Michael Che as the WU anchor was great. They brought out the best in each other's humour. I don't always get Vanessa but she's perfect as this delusional/oblivious character and then Michael was perfect as this annoyed guy who's not getting it. He's getting better -- it's best when he downplays this and does this subtly. I thought it was great and I was laughing through the whole thing. I thought Paul and Phil was kind of funny and I thought Leslie was extremely well used -- great at everything she did. I'm getting more and more into Colin Jost. He was perfect last night. I thought Secret Billionaire was great. I loved the bit about all the Dennises and the one Bryan. I thought the writing for that was quite inspirational, kind of genius. And I loved Jim's commitment to that character and every other. And to top it off the Sia - Chandelier spoof was beyond incredible. On a live show that choreography without mistakes was beyond. And Jim wore a Leafs jersey and referenced Scarborough. Just wow.
  8. Robert Plotkin, one of the most beautiful reality TV show contestants of all time! I didn't understand Jay's runway show. Didn't understand it then. Don't understand it now.
  9. (Quote taken from Past Contestants thread) Hey. I like your way of thinking. But now that I think about it. I was going to suggest another huge list of actors/celebrities who are ALSO incredibly stylish. Every single name on my personal list, all I could think was, I'm sure PR has asked her to come on the show, but she refused. Milla Jovovich was a fantastic guest judge and an extremely stylish actor (and obviously, veteran model). Zoe Saldana is stylish and she came on, but I found her.... I don't know. Really arrogant and harsh, almost mean towards the designers. Dream guest judges: MKA, Gwyneth, Aniston, Kate Moss Dream guest judges who aren't models or actors: Any well known designer ever (I freakin' love Zac Posen as a man and a judge). Miroslava Duma. Olivia Palermo. Geraldine Saglio, etc. Second tier: Reese, Emma Watson Who Might actually come on (if they haven't already?): Alba? Kirsten Dunst. Selma Blair. Did Miranda Kerr already come on? It seems like she would have.
  10. I liked her collection well enough, but yes. I really strongly noticed how badly she dressed for her runway show! This is the biggest day of your fashion career. All I could think was "Biatch! (Farmer Biatch!) What the F are you wearing!"
  11. Kini is easily one of the most genuinely likeable PR contestants since the beginning of the show. I was incredibly moved by his family embracing him after his loss. It's almost intimidating or frightening how great he could be. It's like 2 halves of a personality fighting each other, or one entire part of his personality being untapped. I kind of think it's exciting that it hasn't happened yet. This was a tough love situation for him that was necessary and he'll grow from it. I think it's a great metaphor for understanding what good art is, but I don't even know what that lesson is yet ha ha
  12. I can never really quantify what season has better designers or whatever. I've watched every season and I think it's just so subjective I have no idea how to even come up with arguments. The debate just never does it for me. However, there is one thing I will say with the utmost confidence and that is the show needs to give designers more time, for every single challenge, and for the final runway, and for everything. Kini used no colour. Just black, white and grey. I also don't get the denim obsession. I do like denim on jeans, but I don't like it on any other clothing piece. Skirts, shirts, dresses..... almost with 100% certainty for me it's a no thank you. I don't think it's flattering, and I don't think it looks expensive enough to not look cheap. Char's was too trendy. I really think the perfect word for it is "trendy". I was wearing shirts like that in early 2000s --- the style was very hot back then, when I was in college and we'd all go clubbing. That's fine and I'm not trying to make fun of her or something but the older I get the more I realize that focusing on quick-passing trends is usually a bad idea. You will buy clothes like Char's and then like them for a half-season and then never wear them again. For really rich people it makes sense but for everyone else it just doesn't. Anyone who wants to be smart with their money should invest in something they can actually see themselves wearing for at least 3 seasons or more. Amanda's was pretty good. I agree that the black leather and brown suede gave a huge feeling of luxury to her collection. I liked the huge graphics - the circles. I wanted Amanda and Sean to be the top with a slight edge over Sean. I can't believe I agreed with the judges that time; I'm pretty confident that that rarely happens. For example, I am not a Dmitry fan. I wanted that Dumpster Diver guy to win. That orange dress in Sean's finale put the hugest smile on my face. I agree that the model was spectacular but I think the dress was almost as spectacular as she was. I did feel kind of bad for Amanda because the judges acted all season like they were ready to crown her the winner so this was kind of an upset. If the designers are choosing the diversity of models then I applaud them. This is a huge issue in the fashion industry right now and whether it's the individual designers or the show that is pushing the racial diversity of the models they are actually being innovative and at the forefront of the 4 major fashion capitals, some or most of which are really behind the times. BTW a lot of the models were downright ugly. Two of Amanda's with the long wavy hair looked really drugged out, (red, tired eyes) as if she was going for Jenny Gump's look in the 1970's when she's about to jump off the balcony. And I love models!
  13. Another thing that is stupid about this episode, (add it to the pile), The show goes from - Everyone's at LG - Everyone except Cary at LG - Everyone back at LG - Cary and Alicia go to FA - Will Dead - Lockhart go to FA - Cary / Alicia/ Lockhart all move back to LG. So back to the beginning except nothing's changed except Will still dead. I find this nonsensical musical chairs ridiculous, like one of the writers hates a move made by another episode writer so simply writes in a ridiculous change to bring it back to where it was beforehand. Next Will is going to be resurrected. Here's hoping. Seriously? I live alone -- so what, I'm hardly ever allowed to drink? ; ) Sorry.... I feel differently on that one. It's a legal activity and a lot of people do a lot of legal activities in solitary.
  14. I don't understand why the showrunners would do that to Elsbeth. The showrunners know how popular the character is, they were running ads like "Everyone's favourite lawyer is coming back this Sunday!" And then to watch the actual episode, WTF? The strategy of character assassination (mentioned upthread) of an incredibly popular side character makes zero sense. Shows do not do that. It's almost like a backhand to the audience. Diane seemed completely lost. Finn seemed so weak too. These are not attractive qualities. Taye Diggs' character was miserable, he was just there. And don't even get me started on Lana. I guess when Kalinda goes I won't have to see her either, small gifts. We went from a very good episode to a bad one -- this inconsistency is what keeps a show like TGW off of my favourites list after the second season or so, unfortunately.
  15. Bleached blonde hair and brown leather tan face. Gee. No, not distracting at all! Way worse than penguins and Kyle MacLachlan.
  16. I vehemently disagree. There are many places where interracial relationships are incredibly common, and I think you're making some false assumptions about how they work, assumptions that I find personally offensive. You also seem to be placing different races in categories of better or worse, grouping young/white/attractive into a 'good' category and older/Asian/nerd into a lesser one.
  17. Awww, I miss Derrick! Happy Endings was such a good show. Maybe when Friends came out, everyone thought the characters spoke too weird and quickly too. But then the public began actually speaking like the characters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friends#Cultural_impact A show like Happy Endings never really got a chance to be that big -- today shows can't really get that big anyway. I think we can call it a trope at this point. "King of the Hill", Me Myself and Irene, right? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChocolateBaby
  18. Wow, I took it completely differently. I took it as, "I never like anybody, but I do like you." Then again I didn't see Oliver as a 5, is that what the show is implying? I always want more episodes, even if the quality goes downhill. Looking back at my favourite shows, I'd always want another season pumped out even it was the worst one. More things to rewatch and enjoy later after all is finished. I find no extra satisfaction in short seasons personally. And for this particular show things are going way too fast and crammed in for my tastes. Maybe with 22 episodes things could be explored with more patience on the part of the showrunners and understanding on the part of audience. However, I don't begrudge what Viola Davis wants in her career and a contract was signed fulfilling what she wanted -- good for her.
  19. She married Jazz on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air :) I was wondering if I actually know her from something, or just think she looks like Rachel Blanchard. Pretty much. Does Wes look like another actor we're used to? Trying to figure out.
  20. I love this show... That's it. @Abcmusiclounge on Twitter tells you all the songs the show uses. People on this show are so hot. Connor. Connor. And Annalise's boyfriend. And... Annalise's boyfriend :) Haha. In a hoodie. Oh my... She has really cute lips but besides that I don't get it. This actor gets soooo many juicy roles! The Killing, The Carrie Diaries, now this? She really has the dream career. And I seriously don't get why!
  21. 1 - Controversy by Prince 2 - I'm Coming Out by Diana Ross this twitter handle @abcmusiclounge provides even more song cues I would not recognize.
  22. I'm in my 30s. I used a landline as a child. And then between the ages of 18-28, I didn't. Now I have to work a job where I have to use a landline and I absolutely hate it. I can hardly get through dialing a number without making a mistake and having to start over. So that's why it's very funny to me. Landlines and answering machines are weird pieces of technology to me now, just like a VCR would be. Some people have bad memories also; it's not like picking up a phone suddenly sends us back in time to when we used it every day.
  23. I love Tim Meadows. And I'm very affectionate towards the guy who played Stanley on The Office. Leslie something. I've always wanted Tim to be in something great..... well he got Mean Girls but something else! :)
  24. I thought this was incredible. Nick's monologue about the phone was great, about the technology eventually becoming self-aware to destroy everyone. Nick was so funny in this one. Everything about the landline was perfection, agreed with the above that the scene at the beginning was great. "Why does it have a rope?" Schmidt mentioned Weird Science, and Winston mentioned Splash, but I couldn't understand what movie Nick mentioned if any. Anyone? I have no problems with teachers sleeping with one another. I had no suspicion of anything in my high school. The only thing that we noticed was if the teachers seemed too way interested in the students. And that is the absolute worst. Adults and adults, if it doesn't interfere with their jobs, then fine.
  25. Alicia really, really aggravated me in the early scene with Eli and the campaign manager. As far as I can see these two men are just doing their jobs, and she's bitter, cold, angry, and sarcastic through the entire meeting. It was so incredibly unattractive and unearned. It was so gross and passive aggressive. God, I hated her attitude. I really did. She wants to run for campaign manager. These men are bringing up the skeletons in her closet. Why can't she just STFU or quit the campaign? I hate hate hate when she's like this. What was that even supposed to be? Her displaced anger at how going into politics makes other people dive into your personal life? What is her plan to do something about that, then? To drink wine bitterly and make threats against her son? Great. Alicia's wonderful parenting rears its ugly head yet again. She's a parent and she goes into shock when she's lied to about something that's incredibly difficult to confess and discuss? Please cut Zach off so that he learns his lesson -- next time, he'll for sure come to you first! The rest of the episode was great. I love Bishop. I love Eli and I love him with his assistant (Nadia?) -- I'm glad they gave her a bit more to do this episode. Diane and Cary weren't even in it (hardly) and the episode was still pretty great. I love that actor who plays Owen. I'm with you.
