  1. Jennifer Aniston only had The Rachel for Season 2, but I have a strong, strong feeling that people liked it for YEARS afterward and still asked their hairdresser to do it.

Kids like me got HEAVY into Biggie and Kurt Cobain only after they died.  We were Generation Y, not X.  Generation Xers probably loved all those artists even before their deaths but I was too young and ignorant.  Obviously their deaths multiplied their popularity by a huge amount.  People are still buying those T-Shirts!  I bought that T-Shirt that the cousin is wearing like 2 years ago!  And it was huge for me to buy up all those CDs at the time.  Nirvana's MTV Unplugged was released (Nov '94) right after Kurt's death (April '94) and it was the hugest thing.

  2. If you can't tell, I'm a huge nerd when it comes to the music they show on television (or movies, or commercials, or...)

The music is obviously a huge part of the show.  The show is set in Orlando, 1995.  1994 is my favourite all time year for music!  So for me, it's a good era.

I make it a habit to keep track of the music anyway, so I thought I'd share what I have.  May not be totally 100% accurate, but I try my best.  A few of these, I had to look up.

Feel free to add, correct, inquire :)

    Pop/Adult Contempo

    Ace of Base, The Sign

Bette Midle, Wind Beneath My Wings

Bonnie Raitt, Let's Give Them Something to Talk About

Rupert Holmes, Escape (If You Like Pina Coladas) - When the father "escapes" from the mother at his restaurant :)

Whitney Houston, I Will Always Love You

    Hip Hop/Rap

Cypress Hill, Insane in the Brain

Hammer, U Can't Touch This (I didn't hear it play, but Evan did the Hammer-pants dance across Eddie's room :) )

Ice Cube, It Was a Good Day

MC Breed & DFC, Ain't No Future in Frontin' (I think this is when Eddie tries on all the Orlando Magic gear)

    Big Poppa, Notorious B.I.G.

Ol' Dirty Bastard, Shimmy Shimmy Ya

    Snoop Dogg, What's My Name?

    Snoop Dogg, Gz and Hustlas

Too Short, So You Want to be a Gangster

    Grunge

Live, Lightning Crashes (Eddie's Cousin - what did Eddie say when he heard this?  "That lady's voice is whack!" or something, LOL!)

  3. I'm so obsessed with Evan, the youngest.  He's the one who fed Jessica all the gossip about the moms.  He did the Hammer dance in Eddie's room.  He is the cutest, sweetest, most adorable thing.

Emery is the middle child, the ladies' man.  That name is adorable.

Constance Wu is beautiful.  Her face can be so sad and say so much!

  4. Season 6, Emily and Richard are driving through Stars Hollow and Lorelai inadvertently invites them over.

Lorelai and Rory are hosting E&R to dinner and Lorelai tells some long story, goes to answer the door, sees Luke at the door, whispers (mid story) "My parents are here" and Luke whirls around to walk right outside the door again.  Lorelai returns to the dinner table still telling the story.

It's all done just so well.

When Emily asks who was at the door, Lorelai explains that it was Ed McMahon :)

  5. As a non-white person myself, it was always much, much easier to relate to non-white people in the media, be it music, television, movies.  There were few Asian people in North American pop culture growing up, and I think for a lot of non-white people it's easy to relate to whatever other non-white culture (read "Other", "different", "out of the mainstream") we see.  Anyways, this is a long explanation for why Asian kids connecting to hip-hop (and R&B, and basketball, etc.) was very normal where I grew up.  You grow up feeling like The Other (invisible, unseen, the opposite to the mainstream) and you may tend to relate to others you see in the same position.

  6. Honestly, the designers don't get enough time to design anyway.  They were given a huge budget, $500 (huger than what they're used to) and a few hours.

Why wouldn't they pick an incredibly luxe fabric and make a simple design?  What else would we expect?  They're working with whatever resources they're given.

There are some designers out there who are mostly about the fabrics they choose, using simple designs.  That's what American Sportswear is, no?  Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dresses, Calvin Klein minimalism, The Row using wool, leather and cashmere.  American RTW designers are not known for wild and uber creative designing.

  7. I'm totally obsessed and in love with the show, it makes me very happy.

Right and given the depression and suicide rates in many of these high-achievment at all costs cultures, I don't think it should be glamorized. I think balance is great and I like that the mom let the kids play outside in this episode.

My mom is Asian, so if the show was based on my mom,  the glimpses of heart and niceness that the mom shows would be rather unrealistic :) But this is a sitcom, so it definitely makes sense and helps to have a balance.

  8. I've only ever seen Bridget Regan on this show.  Don't care for her on this show at all, never have.  Don't see anything special.  I'm never scared of her, I'm never convinced by her.  Not buying anything she's selling.

    Petra/Yael on the other hand...

  9. This show is incredibly degrading.  From start to finish, the dog competition, the 1 day (half day) for a red carpet challenge, to making the designers tear up the failed designers work, just incredibly degrading on all fronts.

It was clear when Helen made the worst dress out of the four the show would BEND OVER BACKWARDS to make ANYTHING HAPPEN to let her be in the finale.  You all telegraphed it for me, I expected it to happen, and then it did.

Just fuck me.  Excuse my anger.  Frustrated fan who used to love this show more than anything on television.  Bring on next season.

I liked what Zanna was wearing for once, don't hurt me.

Here's my girl Rihanna in Tom Ford, Met Gala 2012.  (like Michelle's design.)  We've seen this a few times before of course, but I did like Michelle's design much better than Helen.  I hate Helen, I hate the show propping her up so much.  I don't get it.

  10. I call bs too on the dude who said he'd give up his spot for the ousted teammate. Bah. Dont say it if you dont mean it

I thought it was really sweet.  When emotions run high, hyperboles might slip out.  I thought Big Ron seemed genuinely upset.  I don't know if he meant it but I appreciated it.

  11. I'm obsessed with Laurel's beautiful face.

Oliver and Connor made me sooo happy at the end.  I didn't even know I was rooting for them.  They made me kind of euphoric for some reason.  I'm sure it helps that I'm just happy the character of Oliver exists.  The actor who plays Connor is very talented.  I find it so believable that he's in love.  Oh, sigh.

People also often mention Connor and Michaela's chemistry, so again I attribute it to this Connor actor.  I'm sure Michaela's okay for now but I don't really see her even reacting to Connor.  More like trying not to.

I've seen all of Gilmore Girls now so I finally understand who Paris Gellar is.  But Liza Weil is doing a good job of not really reminding me of Paris.

  12. I love how Big Ron was so devastated that the 4th in his group (Tim Tebow lookalike) didn't make it.  That made him come off as so sweet.  The other people in the group barely noticed probably.  He was really trying to comfort the TT guy, and seemed to feel guilty even.

Is Sal the one who's always hitting on women?  I like his voice.  I don't like his personality.

  13. What about the cute Asian guy with the weird complex that makes him paint half of his face?

I saw him for a round, but couldn't see if he got through......  I can wait until tomorrow to see I guess.

When Jaq was like "I'm the American Idol, because I am" and Keith was like "Best answer all day".  God, do I hate people that praise things for being mediocre.  How was that the best answer, my god.  Keith does not seem smart.

  14. Taraji's face, I love it so much.  It's so delicious!  I'm weird, I know.

Also, this was the first episode where I was like, Wow, Annika is so pretty.  In that Anthony Hamilton scene!  She seems to have huge shoulders but she looked so pretty tonight.  I think she was a victim of bad styling before.

Dre is devious as hell. He played Iago in this episode. On one hand, he sends the guys to Jamal's studio, then he is freaking out that he might have been hurt. I like that he is not a one note villain.

I interpreted Andre as totally "acting" scared that Jamal was hurt.  Was I mistaken?

Porcha (sp?) was so funny in this episode.

Every episode.  She is the best.

How very natural and effortless the scenes between Cookie & her sister and Cookie and Lucious are.  Felt like you ere just hanging with friends so accessible was the dialogue and body language.

    You nailed it!

    Cookie Monster!

  15. Another show that you can add to my theory that every single show and movie must have a vomit scene :)

Who is the designer of the multicoloured graphic dress Gabrielle was wearing when Mary Jane confronted (Valerie?) in the store?  I know I've seen it before but I forget from who.

    Tonight's soundtrack list:

I was glad the show is back but....... do have closure yet??!

  16. I'm sure I've seen similar grey blazers for women in that sweatsuit material.  The stores don't even make a big deal out of it; it's just a more casual style option I'm sure I've seen in women's stores.

My coworker also showed up to work in what I thought were 'jeans' -- they're sweatsuit material but the material is made to look exactly like jeans.  She made me feel them so I could see.

  17. There's been a schedule change. "Donna and Joe" will air this Tuesday, but at 8:30 it'll be a repeat of "2017." Then on 2/10 we'll have "Ms. Ludgate-Dwyer Goes to Washington," followed by episode 7-9.

So I didn't know this before the episodes aired.  I taped the 2 episodes of Parks, fully expecting them to be 2 new episodes.

On my cable listings, the second episode was labelled as a Parks episode but I think it said "2015" and I didn't understand that it was a rerun.

You could not imagine my absolute terror when I pressed "play" and (for some reason here in Toronto) they aired a rerun of "Modern Family" in its place.  Thank goodness I didn't miss anything real!

  18. I hate Rap music, no matter who is singing it.  Seems like SNL is turning into one big Rap number with most shows.  Ugh!   At least I got a break from it with Blake Shelton hosting, and I don't like country music either, but I'd rather listen to that than Rap. YMMV.

D'Angelo is not a rapper, not at all.

  19. I love Sonjia, too.  And I love how after every designer was just trashed on the runway, and it was her turn, she gave a very short description then was like "I don't know, this is my dress."  Meaning, you're all going to shit on it anyway, let's get this over with.

I'm sorry, but I would think it would be very weird if Dmitry won 2 seasons.  He doesn't deserve it.  I'm in that camp that thinks Fabio should have won 10.  Sigh.  My only hope is Sonjia...
