  1. Can someone transcribe Colin Jost's jalapeno business joke for me?

Loved the Sprint sketch, actually. Can we get Leslie coached to feel more comfortable in sketches, somehow?

It was so interesting when she stepped over Louis's line and then backed off and apologized and told him to go ahead, LOL!  So breaking the fourth wall/out of character.

  2. The part about Josh is where I disagree.  I wish she didn't lie about her age when it comes to her dating life -- Josh has no affect on her career.  Her and Josh are quite obviously exclusive now and she could have come clean about 3 episodes ago.  I would not appreciate dating someone semi-seriously only to learn they have been lying to me about their age.  It's just dishonest, and speaks to the person's character.

  3. Not referencing anyone in particular, but I wish these age discussions didn't always turn caustic or personal.  While I get that there are some people who "aren't buying it", I also see that it's clear that there ARE some people who could buy it or find it believable.  I think it's okay to disagree on this personally.  Doesn't have to be so black and white.

  4. They still need to get rid of Colin Jost and put Cecily Strong back on Weekend Update.

I liked the Sassy Black Lady sketch too -- they had some timing and cue card reading issues, but I thought it was funny, I mean, it's Leslie.

And Kate McKinnon randomly popping up really made me laugh with her delivery of "I'm just here to buy a charger..."

However, I'm surprised that you point to Colin Jost as the one who needs to be replaced on WU -- I like him!

  5. Not really.  She had very loud backing tracks and was not hiding that fact in the least.  She just added her voice on top of everything, and once in awhile throughout the songs just used her own voice.

Rihanna doesn't do much without being aware of it or by accident in my opinion.  She completely owned all of this much like everything she does in life.

Comparing Rihanna to Ashlee Simpson is like ... comparing Janet Jackson... to some...... other incredibly shitty singer where I cannot even name a fucking song of hers....  My opinion...

  6. I don't think JM is unique in this. I can't think of ANY female lead in TV drama who has allowed another female to overshadow her. And going back to the Depression, Shirley Temple was a set diva in the movies

All of my examples are comedy, but SATC is a great analogy, a comedy-drama that had the star also be its executive producer for Season 3-6 IIRC.  Another comedy drama is Orange is the New Black, 5 million female costars supporting the lead Taylor Schilling.

Courteney Cox was intended as the face/fame of Friends, but was graciously fine with Jennifer Aniston becoming a breakout star - Jen is the godmother of her kid is she not?

In my opinion Kim Catrall was many fans' favourites on Sex and the City, and even if (No clue and I don't care if) SJP viciously hates her, they never ever let it ruin the show or have it affect the fans.  I think it's very clear that SJP was supposed to be the STAR of the show, yet it worked fantastically as a pretty even ensemble.  Kim got the biggest laughs, IMO and SJP was a producer for the last few years.

Also reminds me of Karen Walker on Will & Grace.  It's not like Debra Messing froze Karen out of anything.

Not many people besides me liked Whitney, but Whitney Cumming seemed to champion her female costars - they were comedic relief and had their own love interests and storylines, and now Rhea Seehorn is on Better Call Saul and Zoe Lister Jones is on New Girl.

I'm sure Taylor Schilling is fine with all of the millions of other women on Orange is the New Black, winning accolades and awards left and right, I've seen no evidence to the contrary.

I've watched Julia Louis Dreyfus as the star of TNAOC and Veep, with great female costars like Wanda Sykes (obviously a major comedic voice, which is also obvious on the show) and Anna Chlumsky.

Parks and Recreation with Amy Poehler seeming to champion her female costars (Retta, Aubrey, and Rashida) every chance she gets..

    Soo... hmmm.....

  7. I think there are some people who are looking for the flaw in something told to them, and then there's people like me who just naively believe what people tell me about themselves.  I liken it to race - my race is ambiguous, and through drunken experiments for fun I've learned that people will believe I'm whatever race I tell them.  LOL.

  8. Still a better winner than Brian or Tony.

Tony? Tony is one of my favourite winners from one of my favourite seasons.  I was mesmerized by that season from Day 1 to Day 33 or whatever the last day is.  This?  Mike is extremely, extremely boring in comparison.  I agree that he's playing the best game but it doesn't mean that I care, at all.

I mean can you imagine Mike saying that another player speaks like a llama and then showing us a pitch perfect imitation of one?  No, so then Tony wins for me...

Tony was overly paranoid but it was hilarious and worked perfectly.  Mike might be overly paranoid, but it's more disturbing.... it's like an old war movie or something.

  9. Thank you so, so much.

I only just NOW realized that this voting for past contestants was not for Season 32 and that Season 31 has not been filmed yet.  That means we're going to have to wait a really long time for Season 31 aren't we?!!?  Or will it still manage to air at the intervals we're used to?

  10. What did Monica say about voting for Natalie instead of Russell?  Can you recap it because I have a brain that would much rather read than listen.  Thank you.

  11. Rodney has already won --- funniest (unintentionally) player on Survivor this season by a mile.  I'm actually sad Joaquin was knocked out so early.  So much comedic potential with the both of them I feel like.  A girl can dream.

  12. Loved this episode! Dan just has zero redeeming qualities. It's not even that much fun to wait for him to fall because he's too stupid and inexplicably self-confident to realize how foolish he looks. And that fucking voice and dramatic emphasis just bugs the hell out of me.  - ljenkins782

So many people have tried, but for me you really nail how I feel about Dan and I really had to highlight this.

I love this!  yeah "Dansplain"  is certainly a word now, meaning a pompous, condescending way of telling people something, using cliches,  that they don't really need explained to them. - backformore

And now add this quote too.... I can't stop laughing.

  13. I mentioned this in the last episode thread, but what pisses me off about this show is that Liza has absolutely no reason to lie to Josh about her age.  Never had a reason and never will.

Aside from that I like the show.

  14. I agree that I mind Liam so much less than Ophelia.  I think it's because while not a talented actor he is charismatic.  I really hope it's not just because he's a guy and I'm being unfairly biased or something.  He's not even my type.  With the right love interest (Gemma, Literally Anyone Besides Ophelia) maybe he could be a bit more interesting.  I liken him very much to Serena and/or Nate from Gossip Girl.  Neither of them were good actors either, but I didn't want them replaced.

I kinda love sober badass conspiracy-solving Eleanor. I also like that she immediately called out the queen for faking the test results and being responsible for Robert's death.

Can you actually elaborate on this?  I'm as slow as the characters on the other television shows you watch.

  15. And I wish Furlong was the VP pick. He is a horrible human being but he has the best lines on the show.

pivot, you can be my campaign manager.

Of course I understand Amy's frustrations, but you could see the secret reason for Selina's resistance to hiring this phantom Tom James coming a mile away.  It was obvious there was something big Selina wasn't saying.  I guess it became a combination of Selina becoming more desperate and also realizing what Amy's value is.

In thinking about this episode more, I think they are falling into the Will & Grace problem where they keep adding all these celebs as guest stars.

I understand what you're saying, but almost no show can be as bad as W&G in this respect.  At least this show hires capable actors who know how to blend into actual characters, and I think the show does a good job with them.  W&G would have people on like Madonna, Demi Moore, etc. etc. and they would be absolutely atrocious at multi-camera sitcom acting.  Or people like Sandra Bernhard playing themselves.   I'm no fan of Patton Oswalt, but I think somebody like Randall Park fits in beautifully with this cast (maybe Randall can't be considered a "celeb").  And Patton wasn't awful.

And man, if anyone ever looked at me the way JLD was looking at Karen after Amy left? I'd run a mile.

JLD and the directing were brilliant.  Don't even think I need to mention the writing as I believe it's the strongest I've seen on television in god knows how long.

But would she ever be humble enough to openly acknowledge that and ask Amy to come back? I don't know, that would be a massive step for her humanity.

Selina doesn't have much shame from what I see.  She might be somewhat of a monster but since when is she afraid to go after exactly what she wants, and even beg for it.

  16. Well I find that Washington Post article sooooo juicy!  So much I didn't know.  I had never known about this interview:  http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/04/28/the-good-wife-creators-robert-and-michelle-king-on-the-season-finale-alicia-and-kalinda-and-more.html.  Thanks for all the information.

Quote from that article I linked:

We won't get into a public fight with Julianna on this because she knows this character almost better than anyone. - Robert King

Even better than the writers/creators.. Hahahah!

  17. Sunday is actually an amazing night for television for me, what with the following:  Secrets and Lies, The Last Man on Earth, The Royals, and VEEP.  (And more shows that I don't watch I'm sure).  For some of those shows, I'm really pushing it by calling the night 'amazing' but they are all classes above The Good Wife.  This is the first season where I was eagerly watching all the other shows before dread-watching this crap.

  18.  I never seem to watch past the top 8 or whatever, but I am still 50% sad and shocked about this.  I do enjoy those early episodes and Hollywood Week.
