  1. I guess it was my, probably misguided, reaction to it seeming like suicide was taking a perhaps disproportionately large number of our creative/artsy/celebrity types (definitely this week, or at least definitely coming to light this week), though it was really only 3--Kate Spade, the sister of Queen Maxima (whose country I can't remember right now), & now Anthony Bourdain--as it seems cancer often does; at least judging by the number of obits we seem to post here which list some form of cancer as being the celebrity's cause of death. That's all. I really didn't mean anything intentionally out of line by it. And I probably shouldn't have said it, but sometimes stuff just comes out that probably shouldn't have--both verbally & online. Apologies to anyone who was/might've been offended.
  2. I'm glad you & your friend didn't let David's being kind of a douche ruin your experience, you had the time of your lives, & you still recount the experience to this day. If I'd had that experience, I'm not sure how I'd have felt about it; especially being a fan of his. But I probably would've told anybody who wanted to know that he was a real douche (back in the day, there were at least a couple of celebs I met, other than David Cassidy, naturally, who shall remain nameless on this public forum--at least 1 of them has since passed on--who starred/co-starred in TV shows I actually watched regularly, & I guess you could say I was a fan of, whose behavior would've probably been considered douchey; I didn't hesitate to discuss their bad attitudes & lack of professionalism [I'm sure it would've been called] in private with anyone who wanted to know what these people were like when I met them). I wonder, though, if David's douchiness (which I think actually may be seen in some of the videos involving him--like live performance videos through the years--that are on YouTube... or at least were when he was dying & immediately after he died) was connected to his alcoholism & his feelings, though he also had a solo career, about (at least I think he felt) primarily being seen as Keith Partridge & having his signature song/biggest hit be I Think I Love You, instead of being known for the harder-edged music it was said, back then, he really wanted to be making instead of the basically bubblegum pop material that he was (I'm sure) contractually bound to record periodically which was released (at least once or twice a season, I think) on albums naming the recording artist as The Partridge Family, though David & Shirley Jones were the only cast members who actually sang on the records. As I remember, part of the reason the show got canceled was because David was tired of doing the Partridge Family's style of music.
  3. A couple more things to note about Anthony Bourdain: The marriage which produced his daughter (& apparently his only child) was actually his second. His first marriage lasted 2 decades, 1985-2005. When he died today, he was (sadly, to me) only about 2 1/2 weeks (17 days) short of his 62nd birthday (which would've been on June 25th, according to Wikipedia).
  4. Not that this will help you more with knowing who Kate Spade was, but her brother-in-law was actor & former SNL cast member, also the star (I think) of CBS' now-canceled (in the last few seasons) show Rules of Engagement, David Spade. A niece is also an actress; she won a Golden Globe this year for something that streamed on Amazon.com.
  5. Besides the episode from Hanoi, where Bourdain shared a meal with then-President Obama (who was, as I remember, in Hanoi for an [I think] annual summit the US & numerous Asian countries participate in). I think other Parts Unknown episodes I appreciated most were the ones he did (actually as part of any of his various TV shows) from Manila &/or the Philippines as a whole (my late father was a native of the Philippines); & the 1 he did from Beirut/Lebanon, I'm pretty sure it was, which got extra publicity, as I remember, because Bourdain & his crew had to be evacuated from the country by a US military vessel.
  6. Maybe I shouldn't say anything, but... I know (at least I think) you were trying to say Anthony Bourdain was your second favorite celebrity to die. You might wanna consider a little rewording, though, because the way you wrote it, it appears you might be saying Bourdain's death is your second favorite death of a celebrity, which I knew you didn't mean at all (I interpreted your comment both ways).
  7. This article says that he apparently committed suicide by hanging, according to CNN. The most recent report I can find online from them (CNN) just says he committed suicide without mentioning the method he used.
  8. No problem. He was married, as I just edited into my response, 2007-2016. Their daughter, Ariane, was born in 2007, so she's now 10 or 11, depending on if her birthday has passed this year or not (so far, I can only find a year online). That's more heartbreaking than Kate Spade's daughter, even.
  9. He was actually divorced from Ottavia Busia, the mother of his daughter, Ariane (born in 2007), since 2016. They were married 2007-2016. He was most recently romantically involved with Italian actress Asia Argento, who is a self-proclaimed victim of Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Movie & TV Producer/Head of The Weinstein Company (which produces/produced TV shows & Movies, & has/had interests in book publishing, among other things).
  10. ABC's GMA & CNN are confirming the death, apparently by suicide (really, we need to start an F--- Suicide thing now, I think), of TV & Culinary Personality & Author (Chef) Anthony Bourdain, at age 61. He was apparently in France, working on a new season of his CNN show. He was found unresponsive by Chef Eric Ripert.

  12. Yeah. As I'm pretty sure I said in other threads (like Celebrity News & Celebrity Deaths) when I was a kid & involved with the March of Dimes on a national level, I had the good fortune--especially since I was actually a fan, of the TV show & the music--to get to visit the Partridge Family set. I got to meet David, & most of the Partridge Family cast (his then-real life stepmother, Shirley Jones, Susan Dey, & Danny Bonaduce), except for Brian Forster & the late Suzanne Crough, the actors who played the youngest Partridge kids Chris (the 2nd, blond, version) & Tracy. With the child labor laws being how they are, & were back then (the early 1970s), maybe they were done on the set that day by the time I got there (or they might not have had to work that day). I also missed meeting Dave Madden, the actor who played the family's manager, Reuben Kincaid (but I eventually got to meet him too, when we did a March of Dimes telethon together in Kentucky a few years later). Anyway, David (& the rest of them) couldn't have been cooler, or nicer. And it made me really sad to see what happened to him after The Partridge Family ended. I think he felt like--even though he starred in a cop show afterwards (a short-lived [unfortunately] spinoff of the old anthology series Police Story, & his performance on the Police Story pilot for David's new show got him an Emmy nomination)--he was going to be known, primarily, as Keith Partridge, singing "I Think I Love You", for the rest of his life (which, unfortunately, is pretty much what happened). And instead of embracing it & making the best of it (like, say, Donny & the Osmond Brothers seem to have done with their careers after their musical heydays) David just couldn't deal with that, because from everything I remember that was said about him then, he wanted to do more serious music & more serious acting but mostly nobody took him seriously (which I suppose I understand). And I think that, along with the fact that his dad, the late character actor Jack Cassidy, also had alcohol abuse issues (apropos of nothing, perhaps, Jack also was found to have been Bipolar--which I think is something which could've possibly also affected David at some point, though maybe it hadn't yet--& bisexual, which I don't think had any affect on David [or Jack's sons with Shirley, Shaun--also a former teen idol & now a TV show producer, writer, & creator, who's actually on something like his 4th heterosexual marriage--Patrick, also an actor, & Ryan, who apparently works somehow behind the scenes in TV]. Shirley's 2013 memoir actually confirmed Jack had apparently carried on a long term same-sex affair with Cole Porter), along with a career which maybe hadn't gone quite as successfully as David (& Jack) had hoped (though Jack had won a Tony Award, & been nominated for other Tonys, as well as being nominated for a couple of Emmy Awards for his work in television). Not to mention, perhaps, the fact that Jack's marriage to David's mother had ended when David was, like, 6, & David & his mom stayed in the east while maybe (I think) Jack & Shirley moved west, & started their own family, so maybe David felt rather estranged from his dad growing up; as well as David's father dying, tragically, at the really young age of 49 in an apartment fire caused by falling asleep on a couch & dropping a lit cigarette which then ignited the couch (Jack & Shirley had divorced 2 years earlier, in 1974; Jack lived alone in the apartment). Perhaps all those issues contributed to David's own eventual alcoholism. It was sad to think, in my opinion, David's own ego, pride, or whatever regarding his career after The Partridge Family, not wanting to sing "I Think I Love You" forever, may have fueled his eventually fatal (or was a contributory factor in his death) alcoholism. He really seemed like too nice of a guy, when I met him, for that to happen to.
  13. From Deadline: Jerry Maren, the Last Surviving Munchkin From 'The Wizard of Oz', Dead at 98 He apparently died last week in a San Diego nursing home, & was said to have had dementia. He was buried last weekend at Forest Lawn in Hollywood.
  14. Here's a Link to the Article the Kansas City Star Did Based on Kate's Sister's Comments The sister says here that, instead of going for the treatment she needed Kate would self-medicate with alcohol (so maybe she could've also been an alcoholic by the time she died?). Also, she was apparently fascinated by Robin Williams' suicide in 2014; she would always watch the coverage about it on TV. Her sister wonders if perhaps Kate had suicidal thoughts that far back. CBS News is Reporting Spade's Sister Says She May Have Had (Untreated) Bipolar Disorder People Magazine and Other Sources Are Reporting Kate's Family's 'Disgusted' After Her Sister Claimed Kate's Suicide Wasn't Unexpected by Her Kate's family is also claiming the sister has been estranged from her entire family for 10 years (I think the article said); sounds like they're trying to paint her as being shades of the Duchess of Sussex's batshit sister. Kate's sister claimed in the article that they would talk frequently on the phone, for 6-7 hours at a time, before Kate's death. 17. I was assuming the former. But the latter might apply too. A lot of the things I've been reading most recently, this afternoon/early evening, mention depression in connection with what happened, & I don't think it'd ever been stated publicly she was fighting that issue. But the family might choose to comment on that at some point in the future, in light of her death. So I suppose you could say "Ask Daddy!" means he would confirm the former: nothing their daughter said/didn't say or did/didn't do was related to her mother killing herself. But I suppose the latter might apply too, because maybe, if Kate was battling/struggling with depression & he knew it, but their daughter didn't, then he'd be able to explain to their daughter that the depression was what caused her suicide; it wasn't anything either of them did/didn't do or said/didn't say.
  18. According to Extra, The suicide note Kate left was to her 13-year-old daughter. It read: Heartbreaking!
  19. Actor & former SNL cast member David Spade was her brother-in-law. Her now widower is entrepreneur Andy Spade.

  21. Lumpia is, basically, a Filipino egg roll. If you can't find lumpia specific wrappers, just use regular egg roll wrappers or maybe won ton wrappers. But I'm not sure if I'd use the more see-through wrappers, like for a lotta the spring rolls.

  23. Actress Sandy Duncan, who had been brought up by at least the person I responded to. She came up in conversation as someone who'd been hired to replace another (TV) star who'd, shall we say, been unceremoniously dumped as the star of a TV show after causing problems for the producers, being disruptive on set, etc.
  24. I don't know about the character of Ed, but veteran character actor Ned Beatty, who played Ed in the original, is still alive. However, his Wikipedia page says that he's now 80 & he apparently hasn't acted since sometime in 2014.
  25. I was also wondering about her awhile back. She is still alive, & she has a theatrical credit from this year, but I thought--erroneously--that her Wikipedia page said she hadn't been active since 2010. She has a theatrical credit on Wikipedia from this year, but (though I know she was in a Broadway show, Finding Neverland, which she apparently abruptly quit, early in its run, a few years ago) the last thing I know I've seen her in was (now repeats of) an episode of Law & Order from 1995, where she played a defense attorney to a troubled young woman, with a juvenile record discovered during the current case, who went up against Jack McCoy & his ADA, Claire Kincaid. She apparently also had a brief, recurring role as a Judge in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit during 2015.
