  1. No, the matches Serena played against Venus counted. But only the Singles matches. If Serena & Venus played Doubles with each other against another pair of women’s tennis players (like in the majors & the last few Olympics), those matches don’t count towards the record involved. And I think Serena may actively be trying to break the record (like she’s actually talked about doing it), it’s not just speculation, wishing & hoping she’ll do it, like it seems when you’re talking about Tiger—whom I’m not sure has ever spoken about his actively chasing the golf record involved, though I think he’s talked about the record in a general sense. At least part of the reason Serena Williams hasn’t broken the tennis major women’s singles titles record yet is there are only 4 specific tournaments involved which count towards this record each year; not every tournament she plays in counts. Also she’s only been playing in them since 1998 & she has missed some of these tournaments due to injuries, illnesses, or taking a maternity leave during 3 major tournaments in 2017 after she won her last major, the Australian Open. The first tournament that counts is the Australian Open, which is usually played in Melbourne for 2 weeks in January but just finished last weekend because of a COVID-related delay. Serena lost in this year’s semifinals. The French Open, which is usually played in Paris for 2 weeks in late May-early June, but was delayed last year because of COVID, to a 2-week period from the end of September through the beginning of October. Serena lost in the 2nd Round—I think she was injured; Wimbledon, which is the British tennis major, is usually held in London the 2 weeks in late June-early July practically right after the French Open, usually ending just before, just after, or on the 4th of July. The Brits, in their infinite wisdom, completely canceled the 2020 tournament because of COVID. Then the usual last tournament that counts towards the record is “our tournament”, the US Open. It’s held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. Normally it runs the 2 weeks from the last Monday in August, with the middle weekend over Labor Day Weekend, ending the weekend after that. It actually was held on schedule last year, despite the COVID pandemic. But with the French Open last year moving to late September-early October, because of the COVID pandemic, the US Open became last year’s second of 3 tennis majors held, with Wimbledon taking a break. Serena lost in last year’s semifinals. These 4 tournaments also make up what’s called the “grand slam” in tennis. Winning all 4 in your career is a big thing—a “career grand slam”, if all 4 aren’t won in a calendar year; but it really only counts as an official grand slam if you win all 4 in the same calendar year. If you win all 4, plus the Olympics tennis tournament in an Olympic year, that’s been given the name the “golden slam”, because of the added Olympic gold medal. Serena has a career (non-calendar year) grand slam plus an Olympic gold medal in women’s tennis singles from the London Olympics. As Doubles partners, Venus & Serena also have a career grand slam, plus 3 gold medals in women’s tennis doubles, from the Sydney, Beijing & London Olympics. Venus also has a career grand slam plus an Olympic gold medal in women’s singles from the Sydney Olympics.
  2. Hopefully Lady Gaga had the sense to microchip her dogs & they will hopefully soon be returned to her because someone will discover they’re microchipped & belong to someone else & do the right thing.

  5. I think at least part of the reason people are bringing up whether or not Tiger will ever play again has to do with the fact he was, at least unofficially, chasing the record Jack Nicklaus (I believe it was) set for the most major men’s golf championships won by the same person in the course of their career, & it certainly looked like he was on track to tie or beat that record, at least at the beginning of his career. Then he started having back issues requiring surgeries & recovery breaks (so missed tournaments, especially those coveted majors), & his personal issues/“fall from grace” got in the way. Then, when he pretty much unexpectedly won the 2019 Masters, it looked like maybe Tiger was getting back on track to tie or beat Nicklaus’ record. Then his back began giving him problems requiring surgery again, & now this accident. Not for nothing, but basically the same thing is happening with Serena Williams in the world of women’s tennis: she has to win 1 more major singles title to tie Australia’s Margaret Court for the most won by the same female player in her career, 2 more to beat that record. She’s been unable to win a major women’s singles tennis title since she won the 2017 Women’s Singles title at the Australian Open—a title she won when the general public didn’t know she was then (fairly recently) pregnant with her now 3-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr., whose father is Serena’s husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.
  6. OK. Something which bugs me—which isn’t necessarily a big thing, but it still bugs—about the show is how far off John & Roy estimate at least some of the victims’ ages when giving the patient info to Rampart. At least the adults; I’ll give them a pass on at least most of the child victims they’re supposed to be treating. Like, the guy who broke his leg(s) trying to clean his chimney with gasoline in the ep in which Bobby Sherman guested (he then left show biz & became a real life paramedic, sheriff’s deputy, &/or cop, or some combination of the 3) as an intern/young resident & second generation doctor who wasn’t very good with people (sort of like the early version of Dr. Morton, but at least he got better with his people skills as the show progressed) or trusting of the paramedics (he told them to defib a patient because his monitor at Rampart Base showed that was indicated, but 51’s monitor showed a cardiac rhythm that would’ve killed the patient if 51 had defibrillated as ordered, due to some brief electrical fault in Rampart’s area during the rescue that Brackett discovered later). Anyway... 51 told Rampart the fireplace guy was approximately 30 (& yes I know they always say “approximately” on ages, so I probably shouldn’t bitch), but the guy actually looked to be at least 5, or even 10, years older than estimated for his character. And, honestly, I know it’s a function of the show (& Dixie & Brackett apparently had a “thing” between them in the Pilot TV movie), but Kel, Dixie, Joe & Dr. Morton really shouldn’t be using first names with each other on the job in front of anybody—not anybody from Station 51, the patients or any supporting medical people, except all doctors can use first names—if at least the supporting character nurses have to use their titles (supporting character doctors calling Joe & Kel by their first names is OK professionally). My late dad was a doctor & I worked in his office after I got outta college. Unless anyone (mostly other doctors, but also some patients) who might call or come to the office already knew us/our family, or might see a pic of me in his office, then end up seeing me at work for some reason, nobody was supposed to know he & I were related/I couldn’t call him dad at work unless we were around someone who knew he was my dad or it was just him, me, & the office manager in the office.
  7. From Variety: ‘Frasier’ Revival with Kelsey Grammer Set at Paramount Plus So far, Kelsey Grammer’s the only surviving original cast member attached to the project. John Mahoney, who played Frasier & Niles’ father, Martin Crane, died in 2018. Kelsey Grammer will also be an executive producer, through his Grammnet Productions. And 2 From Deadline: ‘Criminal Minds’: Paramount+ Lays Out Plan to Revive Procedural Franchise ‘The Real Criminal Minds’ Docuseries in Works at Paramount+ The current CBS All Access streaming site becomes Paramount+ in March of this year.
  8. Thanks for the added info. I’m with you—let’s get Tiger recovering, back on his feet & walking again (you know he’s probably gonna need a certain amount of rehab for this; especially after his multiple back surgeries, the fifth of which was just in January, apparently) before we worry about whether or not he can still play pro-level golf again. Apparently Tiger’s SUV had a black box, like you find on turboprop/commuter planes above a certain number of seats & all “mainline” jet aircraft; hopefully it can tell investigators more about why he crashed, other than he wasn’t impaired & apparently was going faster than he should’ve been.
  9. Tiger Woods Update: As of the 6:30PM Eastern Time airing of NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Tiger is reported awake, responsive, & in serious but stable condition at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, after undergoing emergency surgery on both legs which were injured in yesterday’s car crash in the LA area. He had open fractures & needed them fixed with pins, screws & at least 1 rod (so now he’ll trigger the airport metal detectors whenever he flies commercially... LOL). They also said his right leg was crushed in the accident, & they were supposedly worried they’d have to amputate it, but they were able to save it. They said he WOULDN’T face charges in connection with the accident, & reiterated there was NO DUI involved, & the seatbelt (& airbags—I think they mentioned them, anyway) probably saved his life.
  10. I also heard a report that he WAS wearing his seatbelt & that may have saved his life.
  11. Earlier, they said he may have been driving faster than necessary, but WAS NOT DWI. He’s also recovering from a recent fifth back surgery, they said.
  12. I just watched a bit of a press conference 1 of the NBC-connected channels was carrying from KNBC in LA about the accident. The Chief of the LA County Fire Department (the department depicted in the 1970’s NBC-TV show Emergency!) said they DID NOT have to use “the jaws of life”, just a pry bar & some other tool I’ve already forgotten the name of to pop the windshield & extricate Tiger; this was said to have been decided between the paramedics involved & their captain. The car he was in was a 2021 Genesis GV80; it has 10 airbags & is an SUV-type. He was driving it during the golf tournament he hosted in the LA-area this past weekend. The front end was pretty well totaled & it was on the driver’s side. Tiger was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, apparently the nearest trauma center.
  13. More brief news on Tiger’s crash: AOL sent a notification saying it was a 1-car crash.
  14. Fox News Channel’s reporting that Los Angeles County (California) Sheriffs are, in turn, saying that PGA golfing legend Tiger Woods was involved in an auto accident at around 7AM local (Pacific) time. The car was in bad shape (probably obviously) & the jaws of life had to be used to rescue him. As I typed this, I just got a notification on my iPhone from ABC News confirming Tiger was injured in a car crash in LA this morning, & it was a rollover crash. I also got a notification from USA Today confirming the jaws of life were used; as well as a notification from the ABC affiliate I follow, from my uncle’s hometown, saying the crash occurred in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, with an aerial view I haven’t seen yet.
  15. Of the 5 leads (Fuller, Troup, London, Mantooth & Tighe), Robert Fuller retired from acting, moved to Texas & became a rancher after the show ended (probably why Brackett was only in “The Steel Inferno” except in clips), Troup & London have both passed on. Mantooth & Tighe are both still alive; as far as I know, Tighe is still acting. I’m not sure about Mantooth—I know he was into speaking about paramedic-type medicine around the country, as well as acting, after the show ended. The last link I found that supposedly went to his website ended up being a 404. Basically a dead link. So I don’t know if he’s still acting, or not.
  16. Regarding the bolded: The weekday & Saturday eps are on different broadcast cycles. 1 of the eps today had Audrey Landers & Donny Most as a teenage couple, & the girl’s father didn’t necessarily like the boy, who got into a car wreck trying to get to the hospital from the beach because she was having OB-GYN type cramps while surfing; he ended up at least temporarily quadriplegic (he was beginning to regain feeling in a foot by the end) & she spent most of the ep after her character arrived at Rampart lying about being/not being pregnant (when she was/may have been) because Dr, Early suspected she had an abdominal injury he wanted to get X-rays of, but he wouldn’t do them while he didn’t believe she wasn’t pregnant. The DUMB thing about this was, nobody ever did anything about the OB-GYN cramps she was having & going to the hospital for, or if she actually had an abdominal injury. All anybody cared about was finding out if she was pregnant or not so Joe Early could safely get his X-rays!
  17. COZI shows the 2 TV movies with the female paramedics in San Francisco out of order EVERY TIME! They show “The Convention”, where we know the guys know the female paramedics, THEN they show “What’s a Nice Girl Like You...?” where the guys DON’T know the girls. And I don’t know how they don’t realize they’re showing those out of order. I also wonder if John De Lancie was playing the same doctor in the San Francisco TV movies as he did in “The Steel Inferno”?
  18. I remember them having legit ambulances in the above (I think). A real ambulance took that boat explosion burn victim to the small hospital that looked like a cabin & the sheriff met Johnny & Roy there. I think the funeral home ambulance was in “Snakebite”, where Johnny, Roy & Chet were coming back from another fishing trip & came across an accident with a mother & minor-age son, who had an injured jugular vein or carotid artery & they had to convince Dr. Morton to allow treatment in an area where they weren’t certified. Then the long-haired young doctor showed up & apparently fixed the kid’s neck, Johnny, Roy & Chet went back to work, & Johnny later ended up getting bitten by a rattlesnake after going back to a rescue site in the mountains to retrieve a forgotten handy-talkie before taking the Squad to Rampart to meet Roy & the rescued patient(s).
  19. From Variety: ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ to End with Season 7 At CBS ‘Mom’ to End with Season 8 At CBS
  20. From WGN-TV Chicago: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ Fiancée Brittany Matthews Gives Birth to Baby Girl
  21. From People: Paris Hilton Engaged to Partner Carter Reum They got engaged on her 40th birthday. He’s 40 too. She wants kids (she’s already considered a high risk pregnancy by most OB-GYNs & fertility specialists & anyone else who treats women looking to have babies) so if she wants her own I wish her luck! This is at least the third time she’s been engaged. Anyone wanna start a pool on whether or not this 1 will last? She’s always said the same thing about her previous fiancés & none of the engagements sealed the deal.
  22. I think it was actually on TNT more than briefly. As I remember, Season 9 was about to start on either CBS or TNT when TNT dropped it; TNT picked it up in August, 2014 (so before S4 started) & ran it for at least 4-5 years, probably longer, with eps from S1 through whichever Season had been released most recently to syndication which was before S10.
  23. Unfortunately, the Sunday airings were replaced, after either the first or second week, for all day Blue Bloods repeats. The only day ION airs H50 repeats now is Friday. But, they air them for 18 hours straight, 9AM Eastern/8AM Central-3AM Saturday Morning Eastern/2AM Saturday Morning Central. But I’m glad you caught on & are catching up. With 18 eps a week to binge watch, & with the ION channel on S5 already, you should be finished in no time!
  24. Considering he was disabled by an attempted assassin’s bullet, at least after that point in Flynt’s life I would think it’d be hard for him to mock/otherwise badmouth others in a group of people he himself now belonged to. You know?
  25. My dad was a smoker, diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer I can’t remember how many years ago now (he died 4 years ago this coming Memorial Day weekend); my mother gave it up while he was alive with the disease, but because she underwent (successful) kidney transplant surgery in 2010 (I think it was) not so much because he developed the disease.
