  1. I am in agreement about what a tricky issue the rape storyline was, and there were parts that I wish had been handled differently - I agree, @Lisin, I don't know if the story line would work today. That aside, I do really enjoy this episode - the absolute menace of Mercer in the unicorn dorm room still spooks me, it's so well done. Veronica Mars was the first thing I saw Ryan Devlin in, and so different from a lot of his other work (Brothers & Sisters, Cougar Town). During my rewatch of this episode, I got chills in that scene, which I've probably watched a couple of dozen times in the last seven years. The music is good in this episode, I enjoyed the use of Fatboy Slim and The Diamond Smugglers were a lot of fun. I would love to have Keith and Logan having my back - Keith tracking Mercer and Moe down ("Your ride back to Neptune is here.") and Logan (classic Logan) taking on the police cruiser so he could share the cell with the two of them (Seriously, Neptune only has one cell? First he has to share with his dad, and now they put him in with the two guys accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend? Yes, I know, continue suspension of disbelief...)...
  2. Leo quoted the song to Sally, I believe... Honestly, I'm going to keep watching, but fast forward through Liv and Fitz. That storyline is the worst, but I'm enjoying the rest of the show. Loving James!
  3. That. Is. Awesome. Have they mentioned Peralta and Gina growing up together before? If so, I missed it. Really enjoyed this episode. Santiago facing her greatest weakness - well done. The hair - okay, I'm still gagging thinking about it. Scully and Hitchcock - congrats on the uptick in arrests!
  4. So tonight is a Community-themed episode - I have high hopes, Jim Rash, Danny Pudi, and Gillian Jacobs. Edited to add - so it was a fairly low scoring game, but there was obvious affection between the three panelists. I was impressed with Gillian Jacob, and Jim Rash was quite awesome (see: Oscars/Angelina's Leg as reference). I'm so used to Danny Pudi as Abed that it was nice to see him 'do Abed' for a minute, but I quite honestly enjoyed seeing him as himself, and not his character. My pick for favorite here would be Jim Rash, with Danny edging Gillian, but JUST barely...
  5. Now that they have reunited (most of) The State and UCB, any wishes for other reunions? I'm going to have to give it some thought, my first impetuous wish would be Kids in the Hall...
  6. Well-said. Yes, there was definitely growth in these two characters that I feel are vital to the canon of Whedon characters. I wouldn't even remember Wesley if season three of Buffy was all I knew about him. And Cordy in the first few seasons of Angel really improved upon the 'mean girl' stereotype that she started Buffy in. Personally, I think that the fifth season of Angel was awesome, and I was pretty devastated when they cancelled it. They seemed to find their footing that year, and did a lot of exciting things, that I can't really talk about for fear of "Spoilers Ahoy!" Now I might have to do a rewatch of this now, after I finish Veronica Mars...
  7. I'm with you. I didn't see it coming either, and really liked how it came together. We have a thing in my family, that my dad is OVERLY sentimental (to an embarrassing degree - trust me, it's awkward at best), and my sister & I have inherited this awful thing where we cry when we don't want to. To the point where we thrust our fists into the air and yell, "Curse you, Dad!" when it happens. Then people around us are all, "Are you okay? The kitten was just being playful with the puppy, and they ended up snuggling, so no harm, right?" But, anyway, I got out of this movie without attracting too much attention (thankfully the 5yo had a cold, so I had tissues in my pocket for him). Again, sweet movie, and lots of fun.
  8. I've been sucked into watching this show way too much, and I blame the panelists! My favorites* are Ron Funches (who was in the Enlisted premiere! I'm really hoping we get to see Pvt. Huggins again!), Tom Lennon, Kumail Nanjiani, and Natasha Leggero. There's no rhyme or reason for who I like to watch; but I do know if I see Ron Funches is going to be on, I'll blow past my bedtime and stay up way to late. Tom Lennon is an exec producer, and I'm sure it was his connections that got us the State reunion in January. Kumail is hysterical, love his sly wit; and for some reason, Natasha makes me giggle; I think she's just so willing to go to inappropriate places, and that pleases me. Anyone else? *I reserve the right to add/subtract/modify this list at any time.
  9. I took my 5yo nephew on Sunday. Second the recommendation, it's funny and a bit sweet, but not in a cloying way. Loved all the voices, and sitting through the credits confirming my guesses was worth it...
  10. I agree, Heidi is much better off without that family. And I will be so happy to see the end of Hannah in the next episode. I just really disliked that storyline. Of course, I dislike the in Season 3, so I think we can all see what my issue is here...
  11. This Game Time almost had me causing car accidents - the 80s theme songs was right up my alley, and I was so proud a few times to know an answer that the panel missed. I am thinking I need to print up a certificate to hang up at work. I shared with my brother, if only because I think he and Adam shared a brain when it came to shows in their wheelhouse. I'm anxiously waiting to hear back from him...
  12. I am really enjoying this show, but I'm afraid it's not getting the ratings it could because it's on Friday night. I've seen someone suggest somewhere that it would be a much better pairing with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and I'm inclined to agree, if only so I can hear Andre Braugher and Keith David back to back. I think this was shown out of order, there are some pieces that don't quite fit (Pete just hit the superior officer and got thrown out of Afghanistan two weeks ago?), but there were some really good parts - anything Parker Young is in, of course, and the story with the Sergeant Major and Sgt. Perez was fun.
  13. This show just keeps getting better and better; loved that Holt made Cozner invite the crew, and their fight in the bedroom was awesome. They are really doing a good job of balancing the crazy of Andy Samberg with all the rest of the characters - every single one of them has taken a turn as my VIP of at least one episode. ...and Terry Crews wins almost every time...
  14. I'm hoping it's not too late in the season, because I'm really starting to enjoy this show a little bit. Which is good, having slogged through the entire series. I am especially happy seeing J. August Richards get some work, he was my favorite in Angel...
  15. Thanks for directing me to the Skeptoid podcast! The book actually does a really decent job of not giving credence to many of the more bizarre theories out there, and I think the author's belief and explanation is actually pretty rooted in some science - fairly new science that's still developing, but still, it wasn't little green men. The Skeptoid explanation is fairly solid as well. It was quite fascinating that the author was able to meet and interview the tenth hiker (the one who turned back due to illness). And it sounds like the remnants of Soviet paranoia and fear are alive and well in the Ural mountains. I'm definitely going to be looking for a few more books on this story to balance out! For the record, I think either Eichar's or Skeptoid's explanation, or some combination of both, are the most likely cause. The Disaster book was old when I was in high school, so by now it's probably dust... I did find a promising new Encyclopedia of Disasters for the low low price of $164.95, so I'll keep looking!
  16. They completely wasted Paget Brewster, and I think Robert Patrick as well. They made better use of Nathan Fillion and Kumail Nanjiani, if only because of the 'Janitors v. Custodians' feud. Would have been much better to spread the guest stars over two episodes. The series has seemed to be regaining some of what made it special, and while I don't think this forced it backwards, it didn't move it forward either.
  17. I just read this book in an afternoon: 'Dead Mountain: The Untold True Story of The Dvatlov Pass Incident'. Now, what you have to understand about me is that I've been a true crime/true story freak since I was very young. My high school library had a big ole book called 'Disasters' that I spent study periods examining that book in depth. Mudslides, plane crashes, earthquake, avalanches, fires, hurricanes, tsunamis, you name it, I'm freaking fascinated. So this book is about the mysterious death of nine hikers in the Ural Mountains in February of 1959. It's well done, and I'm thinking of searching out some of the referenced materials/other books on the topic (I don't like to stop at one book; I want more opinions, because I'm insane apparently?) Does any one else out there suffer from this sort of 'MUST. READ. MORE.' And, the most important question, can somebody help me find that updated big book of disasters?!?!?
  18. I'm enjoying this show more and more, but I'm afraid it's lost because it's on Friday. Please watch people, it's fun! And I'm sure it's fun even if you aren't home alone on a Friday. DVR!
