  1. "Colbert" tapes a bit later than TDS, so my guess is that Jon will dash out of his own studio and over to Colbert's. And no, as far as I know, this will be the first time either of them has been an official guest of the other. Since Jon appears once in a while on "Letterman," I expect Stephen will have him on at some point after he takes over the CBS time slot.
  2. 11/17: Laura Poitras (filmmaker – promoting documentary “Citizenfour”) 11/18: Benedict Cumberbatch (actor – promoting movie “The Imitation Game”) 11/19: Jessica Chastain (actor – promoting movie “Interstellar”) 11/20: Eddie Redmayne (actor – promoting movie “The Theory of Everything”) Week of 11/24: DARK!
  3. ALERT! ALERT!! ALERT!!! Jon is going to be promoting "Rosewater" as a GUEST on "Colbert" next week. Nov. 20.
  4. OH MY GOD YOU GUYS JON IS GOING TO BE A GUEST ON THE REPORT 11/17/14 SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS - VERMONT (I) 11/18/14 EVA LONGORIA - Film, “Food Chains” 11/19/14 TONI MORRISON - Novelist, Editor and Professor 11/20/14 JON STEWART - Film, “Rosewater”
  5. I have been feeling a little bit of "Jon Stewart interview" fatigue, so I probably would have skipped the RS interview had it not been for Fremde Frau's comment. That has to be one of the best interviews I've ever read with Jon. His comments about Fox, O'Reilly, politics, etc. were so spot on. A couple faves:
  6. This HAS to be tonight's moment of Zen, doesn't it?
  7. Interestingly, the lottery piece has gotten 1,441,922 views compared to the salmon cannon's 819,502 views on YouTube. I would have thought the salmon cannon would have been way more viral. It was almost as though the LWT staff was trying to design the Most! Viral! Video! Ever!! The most popular clip of the show's first season: the FIFA piece, with 8,446,193 views. I'm guessing the subject matter made it popular around the world and not just in the U.S.
  8. But wasn't there a lot of talk a few years ago that regular voting booths can be hacked? The company that made the voting machinery was a big Republican donor, if I recall correctly.
  9. Jon and John reunite (briefly; sort of) for the LWT finale:
  10. Many of our elected officials consider the difficulty in voting to be not a bug but a feature of our "democracy." I think I learned from TDS during their trip to Austin that gun permits but not student IDs are acceptable voter identification in Texas. There are many ways it could be easier for Americans to vote, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon. If anything, it'll get harder in the run-up to 2016.
  11. OMG Victor the Crab, I feel like the Grinch every time I sneer at those "Tonight Show" videos popping up in my social media feeds: "Jimmy and Jon Hamm have a pie fight," or "Jimmy and Kaley Cuoco play with Lincoln Logs," whatever. Thank goodness the cynics among us still have Jon and John. One thing about the ubiquity of LWT videos on Monday mornings: I find myself watching LWT live every single week, because I like to be surprised by John's topics and bits. I don't want to see every media outlet from Slate to Time.com plugging the latest "must-watch clip" of John grooving with a giant space sex gecko, or the Supreme Court reenacted by dogs, before I've had a chance to discover it for myself. So those merchants of clickbait are making me stay up late every Sunday night to avoid spoilers. (And tomorrow LWT won't come on 'til 11:15 -- grr.)
  12. Just watched Thursday's show, and Jon is the first person I've seen this week bring up the fact that a mere two years ago the pundits were saying the same things about the GOP that they are now about the Dems. Heck, the Republicans released their "autopsy" (which I'm pretty sure was covered on TDS) only LAST YEAR. (Speaking of which, I guess it worked -- maybe the Democratic National Committee needs to do one for 2016?)
  13. Lots of good guests coming up (Paul F. Tompkins! Nick Offerman! FUNCHES!!!), though I could definitely do without seeing the Sklars on this show so frequently. 11/10/14 Deon Cole, Eliza Coupe, Donald Faison 11/11/14 Rob Riggle, Randy & Jason Sklar 11/12/14 Bob Odenkirk, Mike Hanford, Mike Mitchell 11/13/14 Tom Lennon, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Ben Garant 11/17/14 Moshe Kasher, Natasha Leggero, Jerry Minor 11/18/14 Keegan-Michael Key, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel 11/19/14 Pete Holmes, Ron Funches, Steve Rannazzisi 11/20/14 Paul F. Tompkins, Nick Offerman, Aimee Mann 11/24/14-11/27/14 Reruns 12/1/14 Dave Hill 12/2/14 Tom Rhodes, Greg Proops 12/3/14 Chris D'Elia, Brent Morin
  14. Finally catching up with this week's shows -- with the Report ending next month, I (like nowandlater) was pleasantly surprised that MY district, and my awesome representative Barbara Lee, were finally "better known"! I had no idea that Wham-O! was located in the Fightin' 13th. One thing I noticed: when Babs (ha) and Stephen were doing "the wave," it looked like they were in a large meeting room. Stephen said at the beginning "I sat down with Rep. Lee in her Washington office." It actually appears that they do the interview in a separate room and then green-screen in shots so it looks like they're sitting in an office. (I spotted an A's cap so it must have been footage from her actual office -- surely no one but an Oakland representative would have any A's paraphernalia on display!) Anyway, I'm delighted that California's 13th is finally up on the big board.
  15. According to the @Midnight web site, Jesse Joyce is the last minute replacement. Though I will agree we are SERIOUSLY OVERDUE for a Funches appearance. (I checked his web site, and he has a gig in Sacramento Thurs. night, so there's no way he would have been able to fly out.)
  16. 11/10/14 ANDY COHEN - Author, “The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year” 11/11/14 DIANE VON FURSTENBERG - Author, “The Woman I Wanted to Be” 11/12/14 TERENCE TAO - Professor at the Department of Mathematics, UCLA 11/13/14 JENNIFER LAWRENCE - Film, “Mockingjay-Part 1”
  17. Oh my gosh, this looks like an AWESOME week: 11/10: Bruce Springsteen & Frank Caruso (promoting book “Outlaw Pete”) 11/11: Amb. Samantha Power (United States Ambassador to the United Nations) 11/12: Steve Carell (actor – promoting movie “Foxcatcher”) 11/13: Maziar Bahari & Gael Garcia Bernal (promoting “Rosewater”)
  18. Jon is going to be a guest on "Late Show with David Letterman" on Nov. 13.
  19. More Soup for you: To be honest, I'm kind of surprised... I had figured Joel had been phoning it in for a while now, waiting for his current contract to expire. I wonder if they're going to keep doing the live shows.
  20. @midnight is heading to the Big Apple for a week's worth of shows kicking off on November 3 from the New York Comedy Festival. On Monday, November 3, the panelists include Nikki Glaser, Hannibal Buress and Judah Friedlander; Tuesday, November 4 features Jim Gaffigan, Michael Ian Black and Kyle Kinane; Wednesday, November 5 features Bridget Everett, Hari Kondabolu and Jeff Ross; and Thursday, November 6 includes Jim Norton, Artie Lange and Kurt Metzger. The week also includes special appearances by "Broad City's" Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer and Stephen Colbert.
  21. 11/3/14 CHUCK TODD - NBC Nightly News 11/4/14 *Live Election Show* - ANDREW SULLIVAN - The Dish 11/5/14 SEN. KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND - Author, “Off the Sidelines: Raise Your Voice, Change the World” 11/6/14 STEVEN JOHNSON - Author, “How We Got to Now: Six Innovations That Made the Modern World”
  22. The full News Team appears on a special Daily Show Podcast Without Jon Stewart, taped live in Texas. (It's actually not up on the web site yet, but I subscribed through iTunes and it is available there.) Interestingly, Sam makes a comment about how she's going to be on TDS forever.
  23. 11/3: Jake Gyllenhaal (actor - promoting movie "Nightcrawler") 11/4: Reince Priebus (chairman of the Republican National Committee) - via satellite, *Live Election Night show* 11/5: John Cleese (actor & author - promoting book "So, Anyway...") 11/6: James Risen (author - promoting book "Pay Any Price: Greed, Power, and Endless War")
  24. TBD filled in: 10/29: Ellar Coltrane (actor - promoting movie "Boyhood")
  25. From the Twitter feed: Last Week Tonight ‏@LastWeekTonight On tonight's show, John Oliver sits down with Dr. Jane Goodall, a Person Who Thinks Good.
