  1. The reason I got so attached to @M after the election is because of the LACK of political commentary. At the end of the day, I just wanted some fun, escapist entertainment. (I tend to read a lot of news coverage during the day, and I regularly watch Sam Bee & John Oliver, so it's not like I have my head in the sand... I know what's going on in the world.) There's really no alternative now except maybe the bubble-headed antics of Jimmy Fallon, and sorry, I would rather watch a test pattern.
  2. This will literally be the first time since the days of "Late Night with David Letterman" (yes, I'm old) that I won't be regularly recording a single late-night TV show. Robin Thede's new show looks promising, but it'll only be on once a week.
  3. I feel weirdly devastated by this news. I kind of hoped it would run forever. I stopped watching TDS after the election, but @M was always my reliable source for stupid jokes and juvenile wit.
  4. If you need a fix of John before LWT returns later this month, he's scheduled to be a guest on "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on July 12.
  5. I'm sure HBO's army of lawyers ran over that script with a fine-toothed comb before it aired. I hope this will be another example of the Streisand Effect, i.e. the piece will get a ton more attention BECAUSE of the lawsuit. Right now it has around 4.5 million YouTube views, but a lot of LWT "top stories" have over 10 million, so this one still has the potential to grab a lot more views.
  6. He was on in 2015 with Tom Rhodes & Kevin Pollak. Kristen Schaal tends to be a little hit or miss for me but I thought she was very funny on yesterday's show.
  7. I laughed SO hard at the queens episode. I have never watched "Drag Race," but Alaska's deadpan delivery was great, and Ginger Minj's wig was an architectural marvel. I had to pause the DVR a couple of times because I was laughing so hard. "I Live For The COCK - Compassion of Christ's Kingdom" just slayed me.
  8. Kind of disappointed that this show is generating so little chatter -- I watched it over the weekend and am urging a couple of my female friends to tune in so we can discuss it. "A Short History of Weird Girls" was the best episode of the bunch, I thought. When I saw in the NYT that playwright Annie Baker was one of the writers of this ep, I decided to watch the entire series since I'm a huge fan of hers (as well as of Heidi Schreck, another young playwright who also worked on the show). Anyway, this episode features four of the female characters talking about their lives straight to camera. It's beautifully shot and written. I highly recommend checking it out even if you don't watch the whole show (though I did wind up enjoying the entire series; it's unlike anything else I've ever seen, that's for sure.)
  9. The puppy show just filled me with joy. One of my all time favorite episodes!! As a major theater fan, I also liked the Dog Broadway Hashtag Wars.
  10. Jon's animation project with HBO has been scrapped. Considering how fast news breaks these days, it seems like doing animated commentary on the news was a non-starter of an idea. Of course, I hope Jon finds something else that better suits his talents.

  13. Here's some more info about Jordan Klepper's new show, which was mentioned in the episode thread earlier today. The stuff about his "Daily Show persona" and "singularly correct world view" makes me think they're gonna try and make this into the new "Colbert Report." Yeah, good luck with that.

  18. Since this week is the 2017 Tournament of Champions, I thought I'd post last year's results. I'm a little disappointed that Paul F. isn't coming back, but maybe the far-reaching plan is to have a MEGA-tourney in 2019 featuring the three champions from 2016, 2017 and 2018. Well, if the show's still around, that is... Mo 3/7/16: Doug Benson, Nikki Glaser, Kyle Kinane - winner, Kyle Kinane Tu 3/8/16: Paul F. Tompkins, Jen Kirkman, Randy Sklar - winner, Paul F.
