  1. You remember quite correctly--ACD's Watson was not at all bumbling. He was the one telling us the stories, after all! But as soon as they started making filmed versions, they went to bumbling--think Basil Rathbone's Watson in particular. The Granada Watson was reasonably intelligent, and I find this version of Watson someone who, as in the ACD stories, can't keep up with Sherlock deductively speaking, but is intelligent and highly competent in his own right.
  2. Wet t-shirt better than naked-in-the-shower? ;-D
  3. The John Watson who isn't at all nervous at being kidnaped by a mysteriously powerful stranger, who leaps from building to building although he realizes how dangerous it is, who manages to follow the inexplicably vanished Sherlock to an unknown location, who shoots through two closed windows with an illegal handgun to save Sherlock's life, and who jokes about it after--this John Watson seems bumbling to you?
  4. HA! If a thing's worth doing, it's worth overdoing! For those who don't want to click, here's an embed:
  5. From The Hollywood Reporter: Benedict will be voicing Shere Khan in Warner Bros. upcoming adaptation of The Jungle Book.
  6. Here's a clip from "Who Do You Think You Are", where Martin is trying to find out about his ancestry: There's more about the clip and the rest of the show in the YouTube notes and in an article at the Mirror website.
  7. From the Henley Standard: Benedict and other members of the Imitation Game cast visited with patients during their filming in the Sue Ryder hospice.
  8. I think I'd count Michael Price (the composer of "Sherlock's" music) as part of the creative team, wouldn't you? Here's an interview he gave to HitFix; in it he touches on his work for "Sherlock" but also talks about his composing generally.
  9. I just assumed that that meant they weren't currently working for the same employer, but he hadn't considered that they all might have done (and in fact did) at different times--maybe only the nurse was currently working for him, because she's the only one that knew about the invitation. That actually makes sense, because once he had that information, he could stop that end of things.
  10. From the Los Angeles Times: Benedict Cumberbatch, the thinking man's alpha wolf
  11. Thanks, takeittotheBanks! *** Here, have a trailer for Penguins of Madagascar (you'll know which one is Benedict):
  12. The Wrap has posted an interview with Martin, in which he discusses his Emmy nominations, Fargo, Richard III, and, yes, Sherlock.
  13. Vanity Fair has come out with it's International Best Dressed List, and Benedict is on it; there are pictures here and here. (Does anyone know what a Sami bracelet is?) *** From the Guardian: Benedict will be recording the unabridged audiobook of William Golding's novel The Spire.
  14. Here's a nice interview Benedict did with Rotten Tomatoes at ComicCon: *** If you are inclined to voting in popularity polls, RadioTimes is up to the "grand final" in their TV Champion thingie: Benedict v. David Tennant
  15. I knew the FJ instantly, but then I listen to the Green brothers' podcasts. (They are aimed more at teens, but I enjoy 'em, I like learning things, even things I know and even in little chunks, if they are presented well.)
  16. From the Islington Gazette: Doctor Who and Sherlock mastermind Mark Gatiss on Peter Capaldi, Britishness and the film that changed his life. (There's a little bit in here about Sherlock, but mostly it's about other things, so I put it here.)
  17. From Cumberbatchweb: Benedict Cumberbatch says thank you to all those who supported The Prince’s Trust
  18. I don't know that being dead should have disqualified him--he can't do less dead than the rest of the Republicans are doing alive.
  19. They did do a good job of picking excellent photos! (I just didn't have time in the middle of the afternoon to look at so many. :))
  20. Someone at HuffPoCanada is a REALLY big fan: Benedict Cumberbatch's Hottest Moments Of 2014... So Far (PHOTOS) (There are 63 photos. Sixty-three. I didn't even get half-way through.)
  21. I've always pronounced it (and heard it pronounced) "sof-more," which is the first-listed pronunciation in my Merriam-Webster's; they have the extra syllable in the third-listed pronunciation, which means it's also right if, supposedly, less common.
  22. I'd say the exception to the rule that professional dance companies hire specialists (true) would be Broadway--if a show choreographer decides they need a big tap number and a dream ballet, they will only hire dancers who can do both tap and ballet. BUT....a show is not a company.
  23. According to Broadway.com, the reason Benedict won't be playing Dr. Strange is because filming conflicts with him playing Hamlet onstage. And about Hamlet, Playbill.com announced that there will 100 £10 seats made available for every performance. (That's awesome indeed!) *** And here's a video from Anglophenia, wherein they report on their viewers' reasons for finding Benedict attractive:
  24. Discussing "Sherlock" may have been declared out-of-bounds at Benedict's ComicCon panels, but RadioTimes managed to get something Sherlock out of him at ComicCon nonetheless: Benedict Cumberbatch: I know the solution to Sherlock’s Moriarty mystery – it’s very good *** And here's some late-breaking news from the Daily Star: Sherlock fans want the detective and sidekick Dr Watson to be gay lovers. (No. Really? I never heard this!) (I don't think it was the gay joke that did it, Mark.)
