  1. Yes - there was the episode in S22 where the show got in a bit of hot water stateside for going to a monument in Hanoi depicting a shot-down American plane and then showing a choir singing a pro-communism song. https://cartermatt.com/53974/the-amazing-race-22-addresses-vietnam-controversy-did-they-get-it-right/
  2. Well, Gaiman has said S2 was only setup for the actual sequel material that he and Pratchett had discussed and which will be S3 if it happens (or a book or graphic novel if it doesn't). Then you simply must go and watch at least the first season of Staged, assuming it's still around somewhere. (At least at one point in the US it was on Hulu).
  3. 1) We've now had 3 episodes without seeing the "everyone votes" U-turn so I figure we are gonna see it for sure next week. I was expecting it this week. 2) I'm a bad person because I was sorely disappointed that Phil didn't do the "...you are the last team to arrive. I'm sorry to tell you that you have...to keep on racing!" cat-and-mouse game with the last place team.
  4. And, interestingly, pomelos are one of the “original citruses” (along with mandarins and citrons). Regular oranges are a natural hybrid of the pomelo and a variety of mandarin. Grapefruits are a back-cross of pomelo and a different pomelo-mandarin hybrid. And pomelos (not surprisingly) have some of the same nasty drug interactions that grapefruits do.
  5. And to me the noise the mystery ship this season makes is a lot like the noise the STIV alien cylinder thingy made. Though I don’t think it’ll actually be related in the LD mystery plot.
  6. Finally hit me — the voice of the big-boobed Betazoid was the voice actor for The Owl Lady from (RIP :( ) The Owl House.
  7. Though the "no NELs" schtick is a little phony because they can functionally do a NEL by making a leg a TBC, which I believe they did last time, too.
  8. I can’t believe it! I was working on getting through season 5 of The Dragon Prince yesterday (still not done) and there was a Twin Peaks reference. And then I watch this episode and there was another Twin Peaks reference!
  9. Hopefully Pike remembers the lesson he learned in "A Quality of Mercy" about being too soft/passive in the face of an aggressive enemy.
  10. That's something that should be on all the time so crews don't bring pathogens, parasites, etc. to the ship.
  11. I really wish they had simply made up a new alien rather than use the Gorn for this Alien/xenomorph BS. Or if they wanted to re-use some TOS alien use the Tholians who we know virtually nothing about aside from Spock's odd "The renowned Tholian punctuality" remark. Sure, they couldn't have really done xenomorph BS with them but so much the better!
  12. Two things... 1) While Pelia's idea was good, why use the saucer section? Plenty of other piece there that sure looked big enough to take out the field generator. Or at least give a line where they actually say they need something as big as the saucer. (And it's still reprehensible that there was no attempt to look for or even think about possible survivors.) 2) Not original to me: "It’s actually kind of offensive that Chapel was the only survivor of the Cayuga, and not just the only survivor, but the only person that anyone in the show ever seems to even consider might have survived. The contrast between Matt Decker’s lament for his crew and Marie Batel’s apparent disinterest is staggering."
  13. Plus didn't they put her on the defective bed?
  14. Given Imogen's reaction the the previous ep ("didn't you realize how obvious you are") and also that look from the black rugby teammate in this episode I don't think it's nearly as much of a secret as Nick and Charlie think it is.
  15. If a virus (or whatever it was) could happen to the Klingons...
  16. Shakes fist at showrunners for leaving us with that for 18 months? 24 months?. Also, I (like many here) called the Batel plotline last week and what happened to her within the episode as well. Still too derivative of Aliens for my taste, including their own Ripley and xenomorph face to face shot. While the stuff in the saucer of the wrecked ship was kinda cool, a bunch of the tension was drained away (for me anyways) by knowing that both characters were protected by canon armor. Also, WTF with not attempting to see if there were other survivors. If Chapel survived it's likely quite a few others did. Oh well, Starfleet crew fricassee! Not sure what to think about meeting Montgomery Scott. A bit too gratuitious fan service for me. Though amusing. All that said, still a pretty good episode. With the strikes don't be surprised if it's two years. 😢
  17. So was that the first time we have seen Spock gazing into his sense-oar periscope thingy on SNW?
  18. I...liked that quite a bit more than I thought I would. But then again, I also am a huge fan of Schmigadoon! And I agree that Betal will either be pushing up daisies or held hostage by the end of the S2 finale.
  19. We know from TOS that at some point he goes to study on Vulcan (presumably leaving Enterprise to do so) and becomes an expert on Vulcan physiology (and my head canon is now he also goes there hoping to learn some emotional control practices to help with his PTSD). He then later returns to Enterprise and serves as some kind of assistant to McCoy (we see M'Benga in two TOS episodes).
  20. Just go read the Wikipedia episode summaries on the "List of Episodes" pages for seasons 1 and 2 of STD. Worked for me!
  21. I saw this online elsewhere and thought it was a great point about Pike looking the other way at the end:
  22. So last week we had an actual crossover with LD and this week we had a spiritual crossover with DS9. 👍
