Unpopular Opinions: Overheard in the Castle Leoch Kitchen
mollybygolly replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Outlander
Well I think Dougal has been deferential to Column a time or two while at Castle Leoch. Colum was the one who told Claire she would be staying at the castle to serve as their healer rather than leave with the tinker. I believe we only saw Dougal when Column went to leave and Dougal was standing by the door and consequently shut the door after Colum left the room. Dougal also stood by while Colum made the various decisions on his tenant's disagreements. Although Dougal appeared to definitely be the one directing Rupert during the beating of Jamie. -
The Books vs. The Show: Comparisons, Speculation, and Snark

As a woman who has been overweight on and off for most of my adult life, I found nothing in these books to take offense at. My parents, at one time or another, told me they were concerned about my weight, suggested diets, etc. etc. I think that is normal for a parent to not want their child to be overweight. As far as Claire's concern about how she herself looked, she was going to hopefully meet the love of her life who she hasn't seen in 20 years. Her concern about her weight, about her general appearance is perfectly understandable in my opinion. I personally don't see any signs that the author hates fat people, but of course that is just my opinion. -
I just listened to Ron's podcast on this episode. They apparently have botanists on staff and great lengths were gone to in order to find the right kind of plants that could be mistaken for each other and which (at least the lily of the valley) could poison someone. I have also read elsewhere (facebook perhaps) that while some folks think the plant looked nothing like Lily of the Valley others thought it looked quite similar. So perhaps what is called Lily of the Valley in Scotland is called something else here, which would account for some thinking the plant was incorrectly identified.

The Books vs. The Show: Comparisons, Speculation, and Snark

I have the thought that it will end with the scene where Jamie goes to Fort William to rescue Claire from Black Jack. They will show that scene where he is in the window, gun in hand (empty but unknown to non readers and Black Jack) and Black Jack will put his gun to Claire's head in order to get Jamie to drop his. Then fade to black. It will be something different, of course, but I loved that scene in the book so I will enjoy it wherever it appears in the series. -
I hope they do more than the 13 episodes for season 2. Dragon Fly in Amber is a longer book than Outlander (if I remember correctly) and I would like to see it get as many episodes as Outlander. Although 13 is still more than the 10 Games of Throne got, so I suppose I should be happy.

In The book Angus was the huge guy who delivered the beating to Jamie. He was something of a bodyguard/personal assistant to Colum. In the series they have made Angus one of the highlanders with Dougal (he was the one who didn't want to give Claire his belt when she was fixing Jamie's dislocated shoulder) so it would make sense that in the series Dougal would deliver the beating, since the Angus character is now a different character (in size and position) from the book. -
19 Things I Hate About You: How the Duggars Infuriate
mollybygolly replied to Ljohnson1987's topic in Counting On
I just went to a family wedding yesterday and before the bride and groom entered the reception (sit down dinner here on the east coast, no finger food lol) they showed clips of them from when they were younger. From baby pictures through college and after. Only took a few minutes and it was very well received. Lots of happy memories represented. It didn't occur to the mother of the bride to put her wedding dress on display because it was her daughter's day, not hers. I must admit my mind occasionally strayed to the Dugger wedding, and I was comparing how different both weddings must have been. We had dancing, alcohol (horrors!) and the bride and her attendants were all in strapless dresses. I don't think anyone was defrauded however. -
Thank you shapeshifter for the explanation. I think I now understand what the heck was going on! Will have to play closer attention next time.

I had dvr'd this episode and just watched it tonight. I am thoroughly confused. I thought the killer's husband was the guy in jail for killing a kid at a meth house. But he was the guy whose house the medical examiner's granddaughter died at? So how does the meth guy figure in? I see others were confused but apparently figured it out, but I haven't gotten that far yet unfortunately. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks.

S08.E12: A Duggar Leaves the Home
mollybygolly replied to Rhondinella's topic in 19 Kids And Counting [V]
I was annoyed right off the bat when Amy was claiming how shocked her friends/classmates were when she told them she was an only chlld but had 12 cousins (obviously when she was much younger and there were fewer Duggers). Heck I have 14 cousins and none of my aunts and uncles had 12 kids. Seems like TLC or cousinn Amy is really grasping at straws to make her seem like an interesting or unusual person. Rest of the show was downhill from there, at least for me. -
When I was a kid my parents got us a tent and they set it up for us in the living room. My sister and I played in it, but we never slept in it. We thought it was rather cool to have a tent inside so I didn't see anything strange in Jen setting up the tent inside. Brought back childhood memories for me! As far as Judy not joining the Klein boys for dinner, I would have done the same. Let them do their male bonding and I would have had a nice quiet dinner to myself. We see about 20 selected minutes so I try not to draw too many conclusions from what they are showing us. Although I do enjoy the show very much I do agree with posters who say it is time to just do a few specials a year and not have the weekly show. Those kids need privacy especiallly with pre-school coming up soon.

I agree that Will seems to have bonded more with Bill than with Jen, but to say Jen hates him is quite a stretch. I see no evidence of that at all although at least on camera she seems to spend more time with Zoey when they are out and about, possibly due to Zoe being easier to handle due to her smaller size. As much as I love watching this family, I do think the shows have gotten less interesting of late and I, for one, would enjoy watching a few specials a year rather than a weekly show with sometimes contrived story lines and story lines that are not always that interesting. Enjoyed seeing Grandma meet Zoey, but could have done without Dr. Oz.

We see selected scenes of their lives. We don't see all their meals nor do we see all of their activities. I find it difficult to judge how they are being raised or how they spend their time based on a half hour of film every week. The kids appear healthy and happy and have two parents who love them.
-
We only see a fraction of their lives/parenting..this week only a 30 minute episode. And of course TLC is going to edit it for the most dramatic effect. I saw affection between Will and Jen and I saw Will acting like a typical toddler. I just try to enjoy the show, and the antics of the kids, and I don't sweat the other stuff because we really don't know what the rest of their lives are like, and what actions they take to properly parent Will and Zoey. Both kids appear pretty well adjusted, and with all that has happened to Jen in the last few months I think she is handling things pretty well, as is Bill.
