  1. I think the backlash has more to do with how they were let go. If it had been Sarah's and Jessica's choice, while fans would have been sad, the anger would not be present. Stacy McKee was in charge for a season or two and turned the show into a mess. Krista was being lauded for righting the ship by quite a few fans during the beginning half of the season. The firings and Jaggie are what have mainly turned the tide against her.
  2. My understanding is that Jerrika's new show was ordered straight to series. So it's a go for at least the first season.
  3. This is a really good point. There is a lot more to diversity than what Grey's Anatomy portrays.
  4. You realize POC is different then using the term "colored" right? It feels like you're talking over POCs to prove a point. Alex had an arc and looks like he's getting another one. Owen has an arc that was interrupted by maternity leave for Caterina Scorsone. Riggs had an arc and it looks like it's coming back around. I believe his arc was interrupted by maternity leave for Ellen Pompeo. Interesting you mention Jessica Capshaw last year who was pregnant so that affected her storylines but what about Sara Ramirez (WOC) last season? She was woefully underused for no reason and then Callie was damaged by the custody battle that was used to prop up the other non-POC character in the battle. Jackson had one episode where he got something that was just for him. One. Most often this show uses it's POC characters to prop up the non-POC characters in my opinion. You disagree. I'm not sure why you're set on proving how I feel wrong, but ultimately it is the way I feel about this show.
  5. But again the main focus of Richard's storyline is that he is being pushed aside for another non-POC character. If Minnick stays, what happens to Richard's role once he forgives Bailey which looks like it's coming. Bailey has been damaged badly by this storyline. Beyond the Japril centric episode and snarking at April what has Jackson had to do. Alex had a huge arc to start the season and if those Matthew Morrison pictures mean anything it looks like Alex will have an arc to end the season. Owen and Amelia have their arc which is continuing. Riggs started with his Meredith and Maggie triangle and then there was a lull but it looks like Meredith and Nathan are gearing up again. Beyond this current storyline with her mother what has Maggie had to do with regards to a storyline that was just for her? I'm sorry but your post is coming off as be happy with what you get which I'm sure isn't what you mean. While the cast may be diverse there is room for criticism in terms of how they are utilized.
  6. Actually I kind of get what funnygirl is saying. Most of POCs that they hire now are one offs or have a finite shelf life. Maggie's mother and Wilmer's character were characters that would not go beyond their function. The main cast POCs don't seem to have a lot going on storywise. Bailey drops in as chief every so often, Richard is being shoved aside for another non-POC character, Maggie was set up to provide drama for Meredith and Nathan (she's finally getting a storyline but how long is that going to last once her mother dies?), Jackson only gets a story when there is a Japril centric episode, and Stephanie has been so under utilized Jerrika Hinton finally realized she deserves better. Most of the important storylines are centred around the non-POCs and it seems like the POCs are sacrificed to further those stories. That's just how it feels.
  7. I agree it would be interesting, but I don't think that's where they're going. I think it's just another little argument for Lena and Stef to have to add drama to their relationship.
  8. The only problem is she has also agreed to go along with the shady business of filing for a fake divorce to get out of a legit house sale. She's picking and choosing when integrity applys.
  9. I watched the Stef/Lena integrity scene and was struck by a few things: -Stef is not wrong to want to do the right thing. -Lena is not wrong to want to limit the effect on the family and trying to find a different way to do the right thing. -I think Lena's own moments of compromised integrity (Jude, Brandon) weigh on her. -The main problem with it being a matter of integrity for Stef is that she is vulnerable to Detective Grey because she compromised her integrity for Mike. She's picking and choosing when integrity matters. -Remember when Lena quit because she wanted to defend Jude? Stef gave her a hard time for putting him before the rest of the family.
  10. In terms of Lena's moral code, it's pretty much every character's moral code on this show. She may be the one who verbalized it but they've all done something in line with it. They all do what they have to do for family, be it blackmailing someone's birth father, taking your new foster brother and going to a former foster parent's house to save a brother, etc.
  11. One thing I meant to comment on: Callie/AJ/Aaron - none of them were particularly great in this episode. AJ - I didn't like what he said, but I think it was more due to ignorance than being a hateful asshole. He needs to be educated on trans issues clearly. Aaron - was an asshole to AJ for the most part. He treated AJ poorly simply because AJ is dating the girl he likes. Callie - where do I begin? She allowed Aaron to treat AJ badly without a word. The only feelings she was concerned about were Aaron's. She outed Aaron to AJ. In what way is that okay and she did it in order to shame AJ about his behaviour. AJ was treating Aaron like just another guy. Callie revealing that information makes it seem like he is not just another guy. She's the one who made being trans an issue when it wasn't in any of AJ and Aaron's interactions before.
  12. I'm wondering how Stef is going to react.
  13. They never showed her telling Stef. They were pretty distracted by everything with the house so I think right now Lena is the only one who knows what Brandon did.
  14. I'm actually okay with Lena telling Brandon, simply because she already knew the whole situation. Telling Stef and Mike would open up Brandon to not only learning he lost his dream but also recriminations from his other two parents at the same time. He did bring this all on himself but the gentlest way of finding out that Juilliard was gone was from the parent who had all the facts and wasn't going to go off on him. Having said that, Lena is going to have to explain how she already knew and didn't tell Stef.
  15. My two favorite moments in this ep: 1) The Lena and Mariana scene. Both of them were fantastic. Lena has always understood Mariana because she's been in her shoes and their relationship is one of my favorites. 2) The Stef and Lena scene in the kitchen. After their fight you could see Stef was worried. The way she says she loves Lena, you can tell she was concerned that she wasn't going to hear it back. Then she hears it and she's happy but she gets concerned again. She needs to know that Lena doesn't want out for real. And Lena gives her the reassurance she needs. These two may argue but above all they love each other and are willing to work through their problems because they don't want to be without each other.
  16. While I think Lena has some blame, Stef continues to do things without discussion between them. One little conversation about what she wanted to do would have been nice.
  17. Please. It's clear by this post exactly where you stand. Apparently, waiting in the wings for Callie to look bad on the show. That says a lot. There is equal blame. You know why? Neither is actually discussing what would be best for Sofia. They both just want her without discussing impact. I'm talking about the larger picture in terms of why she would make that decision. One that I don't agree with, but understand why someone with Callie's history would make. Like I said. It comes down to both making rash decisions and neither taking the time to communicate. I'm not picking sides, except for Sofia's.
  18. I do. Arizona needs to speak up. Callie needs to listen. They both made mistakes. The thing is Callie did that BEFORE. She was actively trying to talk to Arizona and Arizona closed the door. Once she knew that Arizona wasn't okay with everything she knew it wasn't a given she could just take Sofia. Refusing to see where Arizona made a poor decision and justifying it is exactly what I'm talking about in terms of being unwilling to look at the larger picture. They've both made mistakes. No one is innocent here and trying to justify where one hasn't but the other has indicates a clear preference for one character over the other in a post ironically enough calling out Callie fans.
  19. I can get behind this, because I do agree it's not a sound decision, but I understand why Callie might think it is. I also feel like Arizona really did something similar and that was to allow her anger to drive her need for a lawyer rather than tell Callie how she felt by what Callie was doing. There is plenty of blame to go around for this situation but I'm seeing a lot of it directed towards Callie and no real analysis of Arizona's part in how it got this far. Yes, Callie got the ball rolling by making a decision that is not awesome, but Arizona shut the door to any communication due to anger and escalated it. Callie eagerly made decisions but once she understood that Arizona wasn't okay with those decisions, Callie wanted to talk about it. Arizona refused and went to a lawyer because of something that Callie had done before out of eagerness. Neither looks good and I have sympathy for both. Also, I think it's telling, the only time that people have given Penny a break is when she covered for Arizona even though Arizona was being unreasonable and rude to her. If anybody's behaviour was off putting yesterday, it was Arizona. But I still give her a pass because I get it. Also, putting the shoe on the other foot, I'd still be in the same situation. If Arizona was wanting to do what Callie is, I'd still see where they both were making mistakes. It's easy to have compassion for both characters when you take the whole of who they are rather than put a microscope to this one situation and make one the villain and the other the victim and see everything one does as wrong and everything the other does in a sympathetic light. I'm not saying you in particular are doing that, but a lot of people on this board are.
  20. The thing is, regardless, she wants to go and would like her daughter with her. That doesn't make her a monster. It makes her a mother. If she decided she wanted to go and was okay with leaving Sofia behind she'd get criticized for that too. She wants a life with Penny and Sofia. She said it herself and she has every right to fight for that life. I may not care for her and Penny together, but I don't think she's being awful. She was disappointed, but she knew he had a relationship with Arizona. She said it herself. She is allowed to be disappointed that he said no. Arizona was the one who was outright upset that he said no.
  21. I'm with you. I get why Callie wants to go. Her heart has been trampled on time and time again and she wants to hold onto something she thinks is good. Does it mean she's selfish? No. Confused? Yes. It's for a year and people are acting like she's trying to take Sofia away for good and bar Arizona from seeing her and that's not what's happening. Callie wasn't even being a jerk about asking. She knew people were also Arizona's friends and understood that they might not be okay with picking sides. Arizona's treatment of Penny was awful and Penny protecting Arizona rather than, I don't know, talking to her girlfriend was disturbing. The extreme reactions and unwillingness to even entertain why Callie might consider this move on this board are hilarious.
  22. This is exactly it right here. The writers directing the story where the want it to go by having characters behave in a contrived manner rather than realistically.
  23. It's funny but I'm seeing it differently, but I agree. It's getting circular.
  24. These are all assumptions until it plays out. The fact is Arizona dropped the first grenade into the situation by bringing a lawyer into it. There is going to be anger on both sides and lack of communication. Both are wrong in this and I'm not coming off of that no matter how many people pick sides. Arizona is in charge board certified in 2 specialties, is a mother and a department head, she should have better communication skills. Another side of the same coin. Neither point is wrong. Callie hears what she wants to hear sometimes and Arizona lacks the ability to communicate. I'm tired of people continually making excuses for Arizona's inability to speak.
