  1. Sophia acts the way she acts because it pleases her mother. Look at Farrah's face in that ^ pic. It delights Farrah when Sophia goes against Deb, so Sophia makes a big show of disrespecting her grandmother to make her mother happy. Farrah was even giddy when Sophia decided she didn't want to sit next to Deb and moved to sit next to Farrah and that's not the first time I recall something like that happening. It reminds me of being a kid and arguing with my siblings over who our new puppy liked best as we all tried to call him over to us. Farrah treats her daughter like a chihuahua... a living breathing accessory she drags around with her to look cute and to feed her ego by giving her attention. It's all very disturbing. I don't think there's one sane person in that family and it's unfortunate because Sophia is such a strange and unlikeable child and that's only because she doesn't have a single adult in her life showing her how to behave appropriately. It doesn't surprise me that Sophia was being picked on in school, although I doubt it was because her dad is dead, my guess is it was because she's just an insufferable child and the other kids won't put up with her bullshit.
  2. New Noah is cute. I knew from the dramatic push-in on the teacher's face after Benson left her classroom that the bruise issue was not going to be dropped. It may seem like a pretty simple thing to clear up, i.e. just ask the kid how mommy bruised his arm and when he explains that she grabbed him out of on-coming traffic that should be the end of it, but this is SVU and this is Olivia so obviously something ridiculously dramatic has to happen to keep her from being happy, so I imagine the investigation is going to turn from looking for signs of physical abuse to looking for signs of neglect because Olivia is a working mother and how could a mother let her kid run out into the street! She's obviously too distracted by her work to be a mother! This whole Noah bruise thing reminded me that I had a friend in kindergarten who smashed her face on a coffee table at home and then her dad scolded her for running around the house when she wasn't supposed to so the next day she went to school and told our teacher that her dad punched her in the face because she was mad that he yelled at her. The parents were called in for a meeting but they determined she was lying pretty quickly. Coincidently, her father was a cop. Which just goes to show, kids can be vindictive little things. But that's where I thought they were going with the Noah thing at first. I thought perhaps he lied because he resents Olivia for not being around or something. Anyway, Cassidy looked good. But seems like the DA's office would want to avoid the very obvious case of conflict of interest going on there. As for the case, I liked that it was pretty straightforward and there were no surprise twists. I also liked that Fin continued to dress the part after returning from Havanna and was rocking the fedora and white shirt in the precinct. I wish he had walked around like that all episode, it suits him. Was I reading too much into her reaction or did the wife seem to have her come to Jesus moment when Carla mentioned Marks peeing on her? Cause yikes.
  3. Lizzy Weiss gave an interview where she was asked about Bay not calling Regina mom like Daphne asked to do with Kathryn, and she admitted that while Daphne has seen Kathryn as her mom for a while, Bay and Regina have always had more of a little sister/older sister or aunt/niece relationship. TV Guide Interview: Kind of interesting. I wonder if Weiss heard the criticism some fans have had about Regina not treating Bay like a daughter but like a niece/distant relative instead, and just decided to embrace it and act like that was the plan all along. I don't think Bay not calling Regina "mom" is a personality thing for Bay, I think it's a Regina thing. Regina has always sort of kept Bay at arm's length because of her fears or insecurities, but Bay actually seems like the type to crave that connection and feeling of affection and familiarity that comes with such terms, in fact in this episode she even called John "Daddy" when she got emotional over him not understanding her. If Regina was a warmer person who had been more open and loving with Bay from the start the way Kathryn has always been with Daphne, I think Bay would have leaped at the opportunity to call Regina "mom" because she's always wanted that connection, but there's been so much disappointment and tension in their relationship over the years that Bay will probably never feel comfortable calling Regina "mom". On another note, I don't know why people keep bringing up the idea of a revival somewhere down the line in these interviews. This show was never popular enough to warrant a revisit.
  4. Not horrible but still slightly disappointing. The sudden cancelation didn’t allow for the writers to build to these moments so all these “big decisions” carried very little weight since they just popped up this episode. Glad Bay didn’t follow Travis or get back with Emmett. Daphne’s speech to the jerky doctor was nicely done but I’ll never be invested in Daphne’s path to becoming a doctor because it’ll never seem worth the sacrifices her family (namely Bay) made to get her there. Not sure why Toby’s suddenly unhappy with music but nice that he found something he feels so strongly about. Could have done without the Matthew/Melody subplot and definitely could have done without seeing Eric again. Where’s the Cracked Mug located? For some reason I thought it was in East Riverside, which would mean if Regina moves to East Riverside to raise Will, she would actually be closer to Bay (and Daphne) because Bay’s living above the Cracked Mug. Not that it matters where Regina lives because I don’t think her relationship with Bay is ever going to go beyond where it is now, but no need for Bay to be sad about Regina moving because it's not like she's going far. But Regina being so eager to raise Will must have felt like such a slap in the face to Bay, it's like her own mother is willing to raise any child but her. Speaking of which, my favorite part of the episode was when Daphne asked if she could call Kathryn “mom” in front of everyone and they had their big happy moment, and Bay just stayed quiet and didn’t ask the same of Regina because she still hardly knows Regina. Okay, my actual favorite scene was Toby, Bay and Daphne reminiscing about all their screw-ups and Toby's line about him and Bay having had a jump start on disappointing John and Kathryn. It was a fun sweet little moment. They seemed to try to give each family dynamic a little scene to tie things up but it just wasn’t enough and those moments fell short to me. Bay and Regina, who have had probably the most complicated relationship on this show, had like 30 seconds together and that was that. And Daphne and Bay said very little that mattered to each other when their relationship with each other has always been such a big part of this show. It seemed like the finale focused more on how the switch affected the parents than it did the girls.
  5. I'm not spoiled either (are there spoilers for this show?) but I could see Bay deciding to "set Travis free" so he could go to Japan and live out his dream of pitching professionally. That would of course leave Bay home in Kanas City and free to date her ex, who was awful to her, but Bay is Bay and has pretty low standards for how people treat her so Emmett's past behavior will probably just be excused because he's depressed now and that's more important than any of Bay's silly feelings.
  6. Oh yeah I rolled my eyes so hard when Bay said that to Daphne. I just want to shake Bay and try to get it through her head that her life matters just as much as Daphne's. She hasn't exactly had it easy since taking the fall for Daphne, in fact her life kind of imploded afterwards, but for whatever reason she still thinks Daphne getting to be a doctor after making numerous mistakes to jeopardize that, is somehow more important than her own future and happiness. Unless Bay has a crystal ball somewhere that has revealed that Daphne will eventually go on to cure cancer as a doctor, then she needs to stop prioritizing Daphne's life over her own. And it'd be nice if her parents let her know that she matters too, instead of being all too willing to let Bay throw her life away for Daphne and then punishing Bay for trying to make the most of her life as a tattoo artist instead of going to college like Daphne, when Bay's college and career prospects are seriously limited as a result of what she did for Daphne.
  7. Oh yeah, Bay’s definitely a people pleaser—at times to her own detriment. There’s a scene in season 2 where Bay and Daphne are fighting in the Kennish kitchen and Bay’s ranting about Daphne stealing her boyfriend and about the fallout from the Carlton takeover, and Daphne shuts her down and accuses Bay of always playing the victim, and Bay says she didn’t use to feel like that before Daphne showed up. Bay’s self-worth definitely took a major hit when Regina and Daphne came into her life. I think in the long run, it changed her for the better because it turned her into a more thoughtful and compassionate person, whereas before she had a tendency to be pretty self-absorbed, but it’s interesting that Bay's growth kind of came from being broken down and feeling rejected. Daphne, on the other hand, didn't grow at all from learning about the switch in my opinion. If anything, I think she went backwards. I have so much more to say about the Bay and Regina relationship but I don't want to take over the thread. Maybe I'll head over to the character's thread later.
  8. I don't think not naming the rope guy's offense was a plot hole but rather a deliberate writing choice to leave it unanswered. It didn't really matter what he did, just that he had compromised himself.
  9. Why didn't blackmail guy try to blackmail any of the SVU detectives? Collectively, they're the most blackmail-able people alive. I liked the episode. It was interesting enough and the personal drama wasn't too overwrought.
  10. Jay and Gloria should have definitely been invited to the wedding since Jay was at Frank's bachelor party and it's in poor taste to include someone in pre-wedding activities and then not invite them to the wedding. Jay obviously wasn't busy or unable to attend so it's not like he had reason to decline, but it is what it is. The show needed the families separated for the episode to make filming easier so they chose to overlook this. Not a huge deal but I definitely would have preferred to see the whole extended family engaging in shenanigans at the wedding together instead of splintered off into their own little worlds. More glaring than the wedding invite oversight, was Mitch and Cam just walking out of their condo and staying gone the whole day at Pam's audition when we knew Lily was in the house. And although I knew Claire and the kids were going to do Frank's little sketch at the end, it was still cute to see how delighted both Phil and Frank were when they realized what their wives were up to.
  11. So much this. The difference between John and Kathryn’s relationship with Daphne and Regina’s with Bay has always been glaring and heartbreaking to me. Of course Bay had a lot growing up, including two loving parents, but she was the one who felt out of place and like something was missing in her life and thus set this whole switch thing in motion. She probably thought once she found that missing piece in Regina that she would start to feel whole, like she belonged, but she never really got that connection she was longing for with Regina. On the other hand, Daphne, who always seemed perfectly content with the way things were before the switch and never gave off the impression that she felt she was missing anything, seamlessly added two loving parents and an older brother to her life, who accepted her immediately and loved her like she had always been a part of the family. She didn't have to work for their love or ever feel rejected by them. There was an instant connection between John/Kathryn and Daphne and they fought hard for more time with her and more say in her life because she’s their daughter and they wanted to be her parents. They made no distinction between the kids they raised and Daphne. From the second they found out about the switch, Daphne was as much theirs as Toby and Bay were. And then there's Regina, who spent the first couple of years after the switch was exposed worrying about losing Daphne to the Kennishes instead of trying to form a connection with Bay, who was there basically begging for her attention and approval. I never got the sense that Regina felt the same way about Bay as she does about Daphne. Regina may now refer to them both as her daughters but there’s a noticeable difference in how she treats them, and for Bay, who sees how easily her parents have embraced Daphne, that must hurt. Still, Bay lights up whenever she shares a positive moment with her biological mother, but eventually Regina’s indifference and thoughtlessness regarding Bay will rear it’s head again and Bay’s left feeling sad and rejected. I mean how many outbursts has Bay had where she has to cry and remind Regina that she’s her daughter too before Regina gets it? Bay reminds me of a little puppy begging for Regina’s love and approval, and despite getting neglected and repeatedly kicked away, she keeps going back for more because she so desperately wants to be accepted as Regina’s daughter. It probably is best that Bay accept that her relationship with Regina is never going to parallel Daphne’s relationship with John and Kathryn, but still, it's upsetting because Bay deserves more, she deserves to be loved the same way Daphne is. (Sorry for the essay, I obviously have a lot of feelings about this particular topic lol)
  12. The Travis storyline was heartbreaking and Ryan Lane did an awesome job with it. Even with the precious little time left this show has, I’m glad they expanded on Travis’s past and let the character have some closure there and with his mom. Kind of surprised with how quickly Kathryn sold Travis out. My favorite line of the episode was when Bay sincerely said, "Regina missed the first 16 years of my life and look at us now.” Yeah look at you, acting like distant relatives! I think last episode was the first 1-on-1 conversation Regina and Bay have had all season in fact, and it wasn’t exactly a bonding moment. Maybe they’ll actually talk in next week’s finale. This episode definitely didn’t feel like a series penultimate episode. Nothing was really set up for the finale, except maybe Travis having to decide to play baseball in Japan or not. Other than that, it was a pretty standard episode, and none of the characters really moved forward in anyway. Too bad Bay didn't check under the floor boards last week, she wouldn't have had to sell her car to pay her and Daphne's electric bill.
  13. She hasn't said anything publicly, but she does suffer from kidney disease and did receive a transplant a few years ago so it's possible the puffiness is a side-effect of steroid medication she may be on for that. She did miss the SAG awards in January for health reasons and I imagine these episodes were filmed around that time.
  14. I think they found out just before they shot this episode, so probably too late to change anything in this script. Although I do wonder if they had originally planned to have Allie stick around for a while but threw in that line about her finding a roommate last minute so they could clear some time for wrapping up in the next 2 episodes. Lizzy Weiss said that they found out about being cancelled just in time to not have to rewrite the final episodes but I doubt they wrote the final 2 scripts after filming the 100th episode, which is when they found out about being canceled. They had to already have at least the story planned out, so my guess is they probably stuck to basics of their original storylines for these next two episodes and maybe just threw in a couple of family scenes to wrap things up. I don't have much faith that they're going to be able to give the show a proper ending because they haven't been building towards it at all.
  15. It would be great if that was the case because then it would mean the parents are treating the girls fairly, but I don't think that's true. After their electricity gets turned off, Daphne offers to do some tutoring to get some money to help out, but Bay says the parents are right, that the "bills" (plural) are her responsibility and Daphne should just focus on school. This is where the brainwashing I mentioned comes through. Plus in John's lecture he said because Bay chose to work and not go to school that she has these responsibilities, implying that things would be different had she gone to college like Daphne. Since Princess Daphne isn't working at all, I wonder who's paying for her car insurance, gas for said car, food, and other everyday expenses. Do the parents just hand Daphne cash while lecturing Bay about being a responsible adult?
  16. Bay agrees because she's been brainwashed by her parents to believe she's worth less than Daphne and that Daphne deserves more than her. If I were Bay I would have crashed in Travis's dorm while the lights were out and see how long the parents would let their precious Daphne do her super important med student studying by candlelight. They would have caved in less than a week and paid the bill if Bay wasn't there to be taught a lesson.
  17. I hope the last episode is Bay finding out that it was actually a 3-way switch at the hospital all those years ago and that she's not related to any of these people. And she rides off into the sunset to never see any of them again...except Toby and Carlton.
  18. Oh yeah, sorry, I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was disagreeing with John and the writers lol. Their rules just seem kind of arbitrary to me.
  19. But it's not like Bay is sitting at home doing nothing, she seems to be working pretty hard and is usually, this episode notwithstanding, pretty responsible, so forcing her to sell her car just seemed like they were punishing her for not being college-inclined like Daphne. Not everyone needs to or is meant to go to college. Does Daphne still have the car they bought her? Why didn't they make her sell it to pay the restitution she owed for damaging the construction site or her attorney fees or her books or anything else? I do think that if the girls want to live on their own instead of in their parents' giant home for free, then they should pay their bills. But it makes no sense that all the responsibility falls on Bay and Daphne gets a pass because she's in school. Student or not, Daphne's using that electricity too.
  20. At times I feel like Bay is part of a different family than Daphne. Bay has to sell her most beloved possession and work two jobs to pay the bills while her parents lecture her about being responsible, but Princess Daphne gets to sit pretty and go on dates and just focus on school. Why don't her parents expect her to pitch in and help pay the bills at the apartment she's also living in rent-free? Because she's in college? Plenty of college kids go to school and work to pay their bills and their tuition. And it's like the parents' preferential treatment for Daphne rubbed off on Bay and even she treats Daphne like some sort of princess who shouldn't have to be bothered with mundane things like bills because she's going to be a doctor one day and save the world! Was kind of hoping Luca was cheating on Regina because I just want him to go away. I'm so over Regina's dating woes. It was good to see Simone again. Liked the scene with her, Toby and Carlton at the end of the episode. I like how they trot out Aiden the t-shirt guy any time they need someone to be a jerk. He's like the show's resident douchebag. How naive is Daphne that she thought her dad would just yell at the players about steroids for a bit and then everything would be all good.
  21. I try not to judge Lily too harshly but I thought it was unfair to Toby for her to suddenly change her mind about such an important issue regarding their son without discussing it first. Her declaring that she's Jewish, so she's going to be raising her child Jewish to Kathryn and the reverend before talking to Toby was out of line. Especially since the only reason she changed her mind was because Kathryn brought up the idea of a Christian Baptism in the first place and apparently hearing the word "Christ" set her off. Had Kathryn never broached the subject, Lily would have never decided her faith suddenly meant something to her and Carlton would have gone through life celebrating both Christmas and Hanukkah and "all the fun stuff" like Toby and Lily originally decided. I know she gave some BS reason about wanting to share something with her son, but they way she reached that decision made it seem like she was doing it out of spite. Kathryn should have never ambushed Lily with the reverend though. For one, she created an issue where the was none. And second, it's none of her business. I noticed that both Emmett and Bay asked Allie if it was okay to take her picture but I just assumed it was because Bay didn't see Emmett ask so she didn't know he had, and it would have been odd for her to just get to work without explaining the random dude standing next to them taking pics.
  22. I believe it was during or immediately after the filming of this episode that they found out the show was cancelled and the season had been cut from 20 episodes down to 10, so hopefully they tinkered with the next script and started winding the show down and heading towards a final conclusion, because up until now the season has been kind of filler. It's a shame they only got a couple episodes to wrap up the series because it just doesn't seem like there'll be enough time to cover everything.
  23. For anyone interested in cast interviews, they did a bunch building up to the 100th episode but this one in particular was fun. Some of the cast trying to sum up their characters' journeys in 30 seconds: http://ew.com/tv/2017/03/20/switched-at-birth-100-episode-videos/
  24. The episode was nicely done. It was good to see Angelo again and I thought they did a good job of weaving him into the story. I really liked that first scene of both families getting along and blending together so well. It was really sweet. Vanessa Marano’s hair has gotten really long. That was all I could think of when she dropped the trench coat. But that scene was all sorts of cringey to me. Bay doesn't seem like the type to show up to a guy's place in a trench coat and nothing else. Maybe because that's sort of a smooth seductive move and Bay is a little awkward (in an endearing way). Why would Kathryn just assume Carlton was going to be baptized? She knows Lily is Jewish. I was a little confused about Daphne’s apparent change of heart (no pun intended) because when she initially met Allie she seemed pretty emotional and more open, and she was obviously the one who introduced her to Bay, but once Bay seemed to be getting attached and excited about getting to know her, Daphne all of a sudden was distant and closed off. Like she was looking for a reason to shut her out. Bay should have asked Daphne before she invited a stranger to move in with them though, but that's exactly the type of thing I would expect from Bay as she has a tendency to let her good intentions run wild and not think things through. I would have thought Daphne would be a little more understanding of someone who was an addict with two DUI arrests, as Daphne's mom is an addict with two DUIs in her past. Also little miss Daphne was all too eager to try some coke herself when things got rough so maybe she should be a little less judgmental. Appreciate the symbolism of the heart tattoo but yikes that thing was huge and super noticeable. Kind of over Emmett and Travis fighting over Bay like she’s a piece of property. Like we’re supposed to be impressed that Travis decided Emmett could borrow Bay when he needs her. I like Travis but I think both he and Emmett are kind of controlling and possessive when it comes to Bay. And Emmett, Travis didn’t "steal your girl,” you disregarded her and she made the decision to date Travis months after that.
  25. She wasn't in the episode. It seems like the "kids" all miss a couple of episodes a season each and this was one of those episodes for Alex. At least it makes sense when she's gone as she should be at school anyway but that never seems to be the case. I'm sure she would have had nothing but snarky things to say about Luke's college prospects so probably better for him she wasn't around.
