I recently found out there is a small family burial plot in the National Veteran's Cemetery where my family members are buried. It is separated from the other graves & taken care of by the family. The area was once farm land and I guess the family didn't want their loved ones moved.
18 minutes ago, GeeGolly said:Annabelle is buried a bit off the beaten path near the spot where Austin proposed to Joy. Although it looked to be a wooded area, Joy and Austin also planted a tree that was given to them.
I thought the area they chose was very touching. It was already special to them and now it has more meaning even though very sad. It was nice they planted the tree as well.

Lauren and Si seem to have a much nicer home than the others. A tri level. How did they manage that?
I'm not sure what house you mean. I kept dozing off so I may have missed shots of their house.
If you mean the house the girls had their Ladies Day in, that was the compound ammo room house they recently sold. Or it seemed it was that house because they kept showing overhead shots of it.
Not sure if this has been discussed, but I don't think Lolli or Kendra's mom should have been included. I think Lolli was included as a baby sitter but she ended up voicing her opinions as usual.
Kendra was cracking me up when she headed right to the choc chip cookies & said something about craving chocolate more this pregnancy. Also when her mom said Kendra just said "ouch" during certain parts of labor when most women would be screaming or crying out in pain.
I was impressed how Joy discussed how she handled her newborn nieces Fall births, the same time Annabelle was due. How she asked God to give her strength & help her through. I felt her words came directly from her heart & weren't TLC or even Austin driven.

That mask didn't look sufficient. Is a thin layer of polyester going to do anything? Not a mask expert.
I've been watching too many Duggars & Bates recently so I'm not sure what couple I'm talking about but I think it was Carlin (Bates)& Evan at the airport flying to see Joy. They made a big deal out of wearing masks but at least Evan had his on correctly. Carlin had hers pulled down with most of her nose exposed. I don't think she realized it was this way but maybe one of the UP crew could have mentioned it. They were walking through an airport & have a sick* infant daughter they left home with Evan's family. I'm not sure what Tennessee's mask rules are but they acted like this was the first time they wore one. I know I would be wearing a mask 24/7 & doing as much social distancing as I could if I was Layla's parents. But I know God saved them from Evan's scare with Covid so they're good.
*I used the word "sick" but Layla has more serious problems than a cold. I don't know specifics except she has a hole in her heart & a breathing condition.
Sorry I keep referencing this couple & their stupidity but it really upsets me especially when their followers call them a great little family and want to be like them.

Some Jaws trivia for you: In that very first scene where the kids are partying on the beach (before the first girl goes off and gets bitten) is partially comprised of some of my friends. They guy playing the harmonica is my first ever boyfriend. One of the couples are my best friends from college. They were all doing a biology class over the summer there. The smoke they were smoking was real marajuana. Panama Red. They all thought it was a neat experience.
How interesting!! My 30 year old niece is a Jaws lover & I will definitely be passing on these bits of trivia.

Add me to the WW list as well. I became leery when the ex showed up at the daughter's birthday party with his pregnant lady friend. Also WW tripping over the dog's leash & ending up with bone cancer in wrist seemed over the top as well. Things happen but WW had too many of those coincidences.

This was about GEML & I totally agree. According to her, I made a wrong comment about the location and name of a farmer's market Josh and Anna went to when they were in DC. I won't go into my usual lengthy details but she could have said it more nicely that I was wrong. (Even tho Mr. Barb said I wasn't.)

My husband goes way back to the mid 60s, when Fort Holaburd in Dundalk, was the home to all the Army Intel schools before the move to Fort Huachuca, AZ.
Such great times and we miss the crabs.
As @sixlets and I have discovered, we are both fellow Marylanders. Love your magnet! I grew up and still live south of Baltimore City very near BWI airport.
That's funny you mention Dundalk. My sister has worked there in a very small office for years and years. Definitely a world of their own as are most of the neighborhoods.
We treated ourselves to small blue crabs last week. They were on the light side but seasoned well & even though not cheap, they were delicious. Something about being the first batch of the season makes them extra special as well. 🦀
I also remember the Go Fund Me Grandma for laptops for her grands and that she had a summer or beach referenced name. It was funny because I don't remember anyone doing a Go Fund Me& then all of a sudden they started popping up.
Welcome @thehorseofpower!! What an interesting post. I still can't get over the coincidence of you reading about Jill and Derick's wedding & them leaving the size of their family up to God while waiting for your doctor's appointment & dealing with your own problems. I find these types of coincidences amazing whether you believe it is just a coincidence or involves a greater power.
We really have reminisced & discussed some varied topics. I don't want to keep repeating myself but here I go again -- a lot of times reading this forum & others about the Duggars & their ilk are better (&safer) than the pain killers i take that come in a bottle. Reading about them takes my mind off the pain for awhile & into other directions. Even if it's just the amount of time it takes the real pain med to kick in.
Have a good rest of your weekend everyone & stay safe!
I may be adding my own cat story soon. My niece found a stray but I want to get all the details correct before I start posting.🐱

Why does she always have to say her sister is in a wheelchair???
Like I've mentioned many times, I use a wheelchair & walker because of my rheumatoid arthritis. I'm pretty sure & hope my family & friends don't define me as "Barb & her wheelchair & walker."
I do think it was nice Jill thought of Amy needing space to maneuver around the Rod's entryway. But I'll leave it at that, it was just for Jill to get praise that she is a wonderful sister to think of that. How often does Amy visit Jill that Jill had to accommodate for her? It's nice when someone moves a throw rug or small table out of my way but I don't expect a remodel & certainly don't want that person to say they did it because of me.
One last point. Jill went about it the wrong way. She should have left the area as clutterless as possible. I'm sure the less stuff Amy has to move around the easier it is for her.
ETA, thank you @dargosmydaddywho resurrected the 4th of July pictures from last year. Think it's one of the few times we have seen them in new clean clothes.

Could someone give a synopsis of Gracie's gender reveal? I've watched it a few times but still don't get it. They started with everyone choosing a pink or blue boarding pass. Then they ended up doing something with numbers on the sides or wings of the plane with just a few people left. Abbie & JD got involved somewhere along the line with shooting off those stupid confetti (?) bomb things with pink confetti in them. Help!!

I found the website of the church where the Rods just attended that God Bless America gathering. There's a "missions" tab there and when I clicked it, I found lists of domestic and foreign "missions" and "missionaries" the church supports. On the former list: the Rodrigues Family Serving Jesus or whatever they call themselves. I assume that means the church endorses them and encourages donations to them. I don't know if the church itself hands over any cash to the Rods. But with that sort of relationship, it wouldn't surprise me if the church expects David to pony up printed materials at no charge (or only for the cost of materials).
Is this the same church they visited last 4th of July? I remember them visiting a church that did some kind of fancy service which included grifting matching red, white & blue outfits for all the girls, young and old. They weren't the greatest looking but much nicer than what they would have thrown together for themselves. IIRC the older girls incl Jill were lined up like an older singing group. Can anyone dig up these pictures?

Oh Lord,
not only are they partying in a pandemic, they're also...
1. ATVing. Joy is riding behind Austin on ATV. Now I wouldn't have problem with this except she's at least 8 months pregnant. Also they're not wearing helmets. Accidents are really common on ATV. You hit a rock or something.
2. Archery with no armguards. Also Joy shoots the bow with her huge bump in the way.
3. Axe throwing. I guess no hazards beyond playing with axes.
I'd have less of problem if these were just young people not during a pandemic. But they're also all parents doing this stuff.
You can't fix stupid.
I know I'm a Nervous Nellie type of person but we can add letting Giddy Up out of his car seat so he can stand up and "drive" up the camp drive way with Austin another crazy thing. I know it's a private road, but crazy things can happen like hitting a rough spot or pot hole causing Giddy to lose his balance and bumping his head on the windshield to say the least.
I didn't even make it to the part with Joy on the ATV. 😳Thank God I didn't, I would still be recuperating from the vapors.

I think I'm the only one that feels this way but I give Josie a pass on the painting.
Jana started with "there is no right or wrong" then ends up sending Josie away because Josie didn't paint what Jana wanted her to. Who cares ifJosie sat there & painted her own thing? I know it got messy but Jana should have just squeezed out a few dots of paint for her to work with. Why didn't Jana just take away the blue painted picture to dry and get her a new piece of paper to start over? Jana could have explained that this type of paint is different & given her some pointers of what to paint. Josie's picture started out similar to the other sister who started painting the gray background. Maybe Josie was copying her & then got carried away? But to be reprimanded and made to leave in front her sisters was uncalled for.
My father was definitely the artistic one in the family & my mom's painting (even as an adult) would have turned out like Josie's if she was painting along with the grands. Some people just don't have the creative artsy touch.

I helped teach a 4-5 year old Sunday school class many years ago. We were lucky to get the kids to say one thing they were thankful for or how they help mom and dad.

Off topic:
Feel free to blame the paper towel shortage on Mr.Barb. Well at least ordering them on line at the beginning. He went wild & there seemed to be paper towels included in every Sam's Club or Amazon shipment we got (& he ordered.) I think we've worked our way down to a normal range but for a while our dining room looked like a maze of paper goods. (He also went wild buying cases of the cheap underpads I use underneath my leg wounds during dressing changes. There was a good sale on them at Sam's way before Covid started so I do give him a pass on those.

And they are steeped in the cult belief that they - unlike most of the rest of the world - worship the correct Jesus, and Jesus will protect them from bad things because they're tight with him. They look down on those of us who aren't in their cult, and don't give a flying feck whether we get sick and die. Obviously, we wouldn't suffer if we came to their Jesus, so we're getting what we deserve including burning forever in hell.
I forgot to add on my orig post that they started praying right away. Nothing wrong with that. I would have joined in on any prayer chain that had an open link for me. But like we say, they think their way of praying and living is the ONLY thing that helps them. IIRC Evan mentioned about how praying helped with the negative results when the nurse called him back. I think most people would have just said a simple "Thank God" & left it at that.
I also forgot to repeat this was the couple that didn't have a clue when Layla was in distress and/or monitor was going off when she first started having problems. Carlin called to the Bates' house rather than calling 911 first because she was so flustered. Luckily someone was home at the Bates & they had smarts to call 911. But that had to be a confusing and difficult call for the 911 operator. They have to ask many important questions relating to the patient's condition at that moment and not have to go through a third party. Especially since it was an infant with known problems. (This part is just my opinion. Hopefully they hung up the 911 Bates call & had Carlin call them back directly.)
BTW, I'm also predicting a new blessing in their future. I'm sure they found a way to pass the time.
ETA: Fundy dingbats in general do a lot of stupid and crazy things that upset me. But this one takes the cake. I have heart & lung problems that developed later in life . I know the seriousness involved & possibly life threatening in certain circumstances. I feel nothing but sorrow & sadness that this precious little baby has to start life with such uninformed & clueless parents that seem to take her problems as minor bumps in the road & that their God can fix it all.

Carlin is on her way to visit. So yeah, they have given up all pretense of believing that Covid is real.
On 7/3/2020 at 10:52 PM, DangerousMinds said:As is Carlin with her baby with heart problems.
You would think the Stewarts (CaRlin, Evan & Layla) would stay at home and thank their lucky stars.
According to their recent Vlog, Evan had to be tested because a coworker tested positive for Covid. Luckily it came back negative. But it seemed when it was a possibility it could be positive, all they (mostly Carlin) was concerned about was cancelling their trip to the Forsyths. Worrying about consequences with baby Layla who has a hole in her heart & was having breathing issues around this time, seemed to barely cross their minds. They seemed to be more worried about how they were going to pass the two week isolation time. It showed them eating (Carlin getting on Evan's nerves eating crunchy apples) & playing cards. I would have been shown calling Layla's doctor(s) first thing to find out what to look for if she was my daughter and it was my video. Her health was definitely an afterthought. Luckily they did finish out their quarantine.
These two are way past the covidiots stage.

I've loved reading all the watermelon posts & luckily Mr. Barb just got us one at our local fruit stand. My mom didn't like it but we still were lucky to get it during the summer (cut in slices & eaten outside.) She had a tendency not to cook & serve things she didn't like. Don't think I had macaroni & cheese til I was 15.
My mom also had a melon ball maker. It came out & was used mainly for company when she made a fancy fruit salad. My sister & I fought over who got to use it so luckily one of us got to make the watermelon balls & the other one got to do cantaloupe.
The watermelon sticks look interesting & would probably work well at a party. Except I would cut the sticks from the melon & put them on platter with a fork to make it easier & less messy to get a piece.

Welcome! This is a great forum & please don't hesitate to jump in or change subjects. We can start the day discussing Covid, switch the conversation to a make-up recommendation at lunch, discuss pets in the afternoon followed by new recipes or what we had for dinner later on. A simple statement can start a whole new discussion like name origins or what books everyone is reading.
May I also add this is a great place to vent whether it's about family, friends or coworkers. Health is also a big topic here (whether it's about you or someone else) so if something as minor as a paper cut or as major as a serious disease has you concerned or upset, we are here for you.
I'm mostly homebound (even before Covid) and consider this group my best friends. Someone is always here 24/7.
Well since it's Saturday(my nail day) & the 4th, I'm off to do my fingernails in a sparkly red color. I usually stick to the softer pink and peach colors but have this red from Christmas and also used it for Valentine's Day.
Have a safe and Happy 4th of July everyone! 🇺🇸🎆

Jessa referenced them adopting a baby. She never mentioned adopting an older child which are plentiful.
I agree that if it ever happens, it will be through a sketchy agency or a family's friend's unwed daughter kind of thing. Of course the poor girl would live with them & be a housekeeper/nanny for the entire 9 months.

Their living room is on the small side. Why would they put a giant tree in there? And it looks like the have one of those mid-century modern, hard resin, rocking chairs in there too.
That is stupid to have a tree like that in a room where the kids play. Besides making sure Ivy doesn't eat the dirt, I'm sure the kids love playing in it. I can just see puzzle pieces, Lego men, play farm animals & any other toys they are playing with strewn in & around the plant along with a covering of dirt over every thing.

What Rod daughter is in the 3rd picture? Her hair looks likes it has been lightened. Maybe Jill had some leftover dye to use.

She had dark hair when she got married. (Think I remember that correctly.) So most people who know her or have seen the wedding pictures know she has lightened her hair.
Even when we discussing Tim's hair color a while back, I was still going with it was dyed. A lot of posters brought up that there can be a natural blonde in a family of brunettes which is true & I know families like this. But his just had that non-natural gold look to it.

My caffeine hasn't kicked in yet this morning. I read this sentence as:
"I think they're all too boring to even READ to throw JB & M off their trail."
I thought the same thing. She should be enjoying a day with (only) friends while sipping on an adult beverage from a coconut. No layering of clothes allowed either.
