  1. Very true. She is a placeholder. I also assumed that she would be General Counsel again once "someone" becomes permanent CEO. However, until last night, I didn't consider that she might get bounced out of Waystar entirely. Regardless, Gerri is someone to be reckoned with and I'm not sure how many of the Roys realize that.
  2. Agree completely that Gerri can run circles around Shiv because of her knowledge/experience at Waystar. Gerri most certainly does know where the bodies are buried. However, Shiv cannot see that because she can't get past her own sense of entitlement and arrogance. Shiv assumes that she is the smartest person in the room and that could be dangerous for Gerri. Rather than try to find a way to align with Gerri (perhaps against Roman), Shiv wants to one-up her. I'm not confident that Gerri retains her position of "Interim CEO" for much longer. However, I am pretty confident that alienating her or forcing her out will be a very bad idea that will create problems for Waystar, Logan, etc. Gerri knows how to defend herself against the Roys.
  3. A lot to digest in this episode… I don’t think that Kendall is dead. Not sure of his next move but that podcast with mention of the dead waiter is looming. Would he ever confess and thereby implicate Logan in the cover-up? That dinner conversation between the two of them was beautifully acted. I thought - for a brief moment - that Kendall had the upper hand. Then, Logan had his grandson taste the possibly poisoned mozzarella to demonstrate his ruthlessness. It was over then. Shiv can get lost at anytime. Note to Tom: listen to what your wife is really telling you and find a way out. No, Connor, just no. Public proposals are never advisable. Caroline is quite the charming mother. Must have been fun growing up in that household. Did not expect that Roman’s fall from grace would be because he sent a dick pic to Logan. Shiv trying to manipulate Gerri to hasten Roman’s decline was appropriately ineffective. Mattson is odd. Might want to think twice before moving forward with him. Have no idea what the finale will bring but I’m intrigued.
  4. Perfectly said and I completely agree. Naomi's presence is an empty one. She is there but she can't truly help him. And therefore, he is alone. All of these characters are complex and Greg is no different. He isn't an innocent and he is far from perfect. However, he is an "outsider." He didn't grow up with the amount of money and privilege that the Roys have. He is attracted to their lifestyle and, at times, accepts the level of ruthlessness that goes along with it. I'm still hoping that Greg surprises us...that he will choose to step away from the craziness. I was thinking about this, too. It would be much more healthy for Kendall to disengage from the business/family. However, I've seen little to suggest that Kendall knows how to separate himself. He doesn't have an identity outside of the business/family. I love crazy Connor! And I don't blame him for not giving up his coat. (Yes, I'm aware that Alan Ruck was really injured - rotator cuff, I think.) It is very easy to lose good coats at events like that.
  5. Agree. This is a character-based show. It is the dynamics - and the dysfunction - among the main characters are the attraction of the show for me. Greg is certainly "the everyman" and it will be interesting to see when/if he tires of this nonsense At this point, what is Team Kendall and what does it do? The shareholder meeting and it's inherent drama were resolved. Sure - Sandy. etc have more board seats now and may impact future decision-making but nothing that's obvious at the moment. The DOJ investigation appears to have amounted to nothing noteworthy. Kendall's papers were not a difference-maker. His testimony wasn't compelling. He is seeking new attorneys...to do what exactly? Logan wants him to cash out. While I agree with the idea that Shiv may "break" with Logan, I'm not sure what joining with Kendall accomplishes. And yet, I think that this is exactly where the show is headed. Logan continues to win even in the face of declining health. I assume that Logan's downfall is coming but not certainly not this season. If Shiv and perhaps Tom join Kendall, what is their plan?
  6. That wasn’t what I expected from this episode but I loved it. I knew that the party would not provide Kendall with any satisfaction but he seemed so broken at the end. Glad that Naomi was there for him. Yes, Roman IS dreadful when he believes that he has a perceived advantage over his siblings. And I agree, he is headed for a fall…a big one. After tonight, I may cheer if/when that happens. Tom is, of course, relieved about not going to prison but realizes that everything else in his life is lacking. He knows that no one cares about him. I hope that he still surprises us. Happy to see Greg happy.
  7. More random speculation... My guess is that the show will last 5 seasons. If so, we are half-way thru the show. We have seen Logan down and nearly out a number of times. His health is failing. Still, he always comes out on top. The kids keep trying to gain control/influence (and "the top job") and, so far, no one has done it successfully. I thought that Kendall might prevail after the S2 Finale but he appears more lost than ever. With that in mind, nothing dramatic will happen this season but the status quo has to start to shift. It may start this season. (I don't think that Logan survives to the end of the show but he isn't going to depart any time soon.) Tom seems poised for a CYA move. Did he hire a lawyer? Will he go to the Feds? Equally, Greg keeps bouncing all over the place but, at some point, that character has to do "something." What his Ewan's purpose in the show going forward? I'm not sure that he is clever enough to make a major move but he is becoming desperate.
  8. The bolded statement had me laughing out loud. I'm not sure if the Roy children have motivations other than the toxic mix of power and Daddy's approval. They have limited ability to analyze a situation and make a sound judgment. And they are way too confident in their own intelligence and ability to influence others. I think that Roman's reasoning for choosing Mencken was left intentionally ambiguous.
  9. This was quite an episode! Kendall fires Lisa after she offers sound advice. Nothing good will come from that decision. Roman backing the fascist Mencken to Shiv’s dismay and Logan’s approval. (There was a definite flirtation between Mencken and Roman, right?) What a horrible turn for his character. And, of course, Logan is sleeping with Kerry (eww). Shiv…sigh…maybe now it will be obvious where she stands with Logan. The standout tonight was Tom. This episode is Macfadyen’s Emmy. What an absolute turning point for his character. His response to Kendall about never seeing Logan get f***ed was perfect. I can’t wait to see his next move.
  10. My point is that we were given NO rationale for sending him home and that may be why there is so much discussion. We are left to speculate.
  11. Yes - seriously! And yeah, I'm aware that it's a competition. I didn't suggest that all should win and I don't understand why you assumed that's what I was saying. I suggested that IF it was THIS close, MAYBE sending four highly qualified bakers thru to the finale ONCE isn't such a bad thing. Frankly, not showing their reasoning for sending him home is what is creating some of the problem. You can assume that it was because of beets and macha. We don't have confirmation of that. Ans it's perfectly fine for us to disagree.
  12. Agree on the savory bakes. I really enjoyed the soda bread challenge of last season because the bakers were required to do a savory and a sweet bake. I will not be disappointed by the winner, regardless of who it is. I like all three of them. If I had to guess, I'd go with Crystelle. She seems to be gaining momentum (and confidence) as the season moves along. That often leaves a positive impression with the judges because it indicates that she is learning and improving. Alternatively, Giuseppe may have peaked a bit early. The judges seem to be a bit more critical of his bakes now. I adore Chigs and think he must be a baking genius to be able to tackle this type of competition after only a year of baking. He certainly has a great story but that's true whether he wins or not.
  13. I see no reason why all four bakers could not go thru to the finale. If there ever was a season to do it, it was this one. This was simply a matter of producers wanting the drama of eliminating one of these excellent bakers. What a shame! Why didn’t we get any discussion as to why Jurgen was sent home? We had a “this will be a tough decision” and then…boom…he is sent home. Jurgen was not my favorite among this group but I think that he - as well as the other 3 - deserved a spot in the finale. The 3 handshakes were just ridiculous, especially because Prue thought Jurgen was deserving. This should be an excellent finale because, barring a disaster, I have no idea of who the winner will be.
  14. Agree. They threatened a hostile takeover. We also know there was existing concern among the shareholders about the cruises scandal because of the call that Logan received in the S2 finale. The one thing that wasn’t explained clearly - IMO - was how/why Sandy/Stewy backed off the veto demand to any other Roy becoming CEO in the future. Kendall is the biggest loser by the end of the episode. He is overly confident in his ability to close a deal but never really assesses his “opponents” position. He is all bravado and catch phrases.
  15. Tom punches down...no question about that. He is cruel to people that he feels are below him. Roman is guilty of this as well. Because of that, I don't like Tom. However, characters in this show are not one-dimensional. Tom is a bully but perhaps that's because he is constantly disregarded and treated as if he doesn't matter (largely by his wife). None of this is an excuse for his bullying, of course, but as the saying goes: "hurt people hurt people." I saw a different side to Tom in his interactions with Logan. Not only was he caring but he recognized immediately that he needed medical attention. In a show with lots of unlikeable characters - many of whom are in emotionally abusive relationships - I was glad to see a kinder side of Tom. I hope that he does something dramatic.
  16. Yes to all of this! Logan's health will continue to be an issue. It will be interesting to see how the kids, Gerri, etc maneuver around it. There is no denying that he is in decline. I laughed out loud so many times in this episode: Frank stuck on stage with Greg running notes to him, Kendall walking up while Karl was speaking, everything about Tom (especially his comment to Greg: "what's next? Save the Children?"). Shiv may have brokered the final deal but, clearly, she doesn't have Logan's support. And Roman is enjoying it. An excellent episode overall. Curious to see what comes next. None of the Roys better get too comfortable.
  17. Agree with every thing here. Im sorry to see Lizzie leave. I enjoyed watching her and she seems like a lovely person. The problem, I think, is that she was competing against four talented, mostly consistent bakers. Unless Giuseppe and Juergen are a complete disaster next episode, they are locks for the final. That means that either Chigs or Chrystelle are eliminated and that's unfortunate. Still a bit surprised that Juergen's carpet-flavored vegan sausage rolls ended up being served. I guess there was no other option. My mother once dropped the entire roast beef on the floor prior to serving it for a family dinner. Not quite the same thing as doing it on an internationally televised baking show. Crystelle's reaction to her chutney was priceless.
  18. We can only guess where it was supposed to be. Maybe along the Massachusetts coast. Here is a link from Architectural Digest to specifics about the actual home - https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/succession-season-3-all-about-that-hamptons-mansion - which is in Montauk.
  19. Excellent observation! I watched that movie many years ago. Logan’s health is going to be factor going forward. He is a man that never wants to accept any sort of weakness, in himself or others. He may not be able to outrun the issues this time unlike in S1. Agree. Impulsive, ill-advised reactions seem to be Kendall’s specialty and I hope that he is learning to move away from that stuff. Sigh…but the Roy kids don’t really learn from past mistakes.
  20. I loved this episode! Adrien Brody was excellent. I enjoy seeing other characters match the Roys in "awfulness" and manipulation. (As an aside, not only did he make his household help bring the food out to that remote location, no one ever ate that food.) Loved his hug with Stewy on the tarmac while Kendall was still sitting in his plane. Logan's health issues may become a bigger concern for his children and possibly the shareholders. I wouldn't say that Greg has "no brains." He is unsophisticated and not necessarily quick on his feet. However, self-preservation requires a certain degree of intelligence, especially when playing with the Roys. Despite not being given a lot of insight into his thinking, he seizes on opportunities to protect himself and his interests. My opinion on the "worst Roy kid" varies on a weekly basis but Shiv is piling up the votes from me. She is in over her head and, like the rest of them, is too dependent on her father's approval. I'm wondering if she actually has a plan. I hope that Connor has some ammo because I would love to see him do the unexpected. Agree. Tom is a bit unhinged right now and I can't blame him. I don't know what he may be capable of but self-preservation is a powerful motivator. Shiv won't see it coming.
  21. I didn’t care for this week’s theme either. That’s just too much caramel for me. So many of the bakes had issues, in large part because of difficulties with the caramel. When you watch from home and can’t taste any of these creations, the look of it becomes important. I don’t think that I want to eat half of what I saw tonight. The sugar domes are so unnecessary. Sorry to see George go. Seems like a good guy. I love Giuseppe, too. In fact, the remaining group is pleasant, talented and seem supportive of each other.
  22. I have watched this episode twice and I am still collecting my thoughts. It was absolutely fantastic. Kendall: so many bad choices in this episode. He seems totally incapable of normal interactions with others, particularly those that can influence his success. And I still don't like Naomi. Shiv: She is in over her head and, at the first sign of weakness, she will be tossed aside by Logan. While she looked poised at the start of the town hall, I don't think that she a plan on how to succeed in her new role. Logan: Yes, he is being forced to cooperate with the FBI but I wouldn't underestimate him. Where do we go from here? The wolves are at the doorstep. Shiv and Kendall have just exchanged brutal public take-downs of one another. Hard to imagine that the shareholders will show confidence in any of the Roys. At some point, I suspect that they will (temporarily?) lose control of the company. They need to stay out of prison first.
  23. It seems likely that Marcia and Logan have a pre-nup. And - if I remember correctly - she was his Health Care Proxy back in S1. Unless that was changed off-camera, it could come into play if (or more likely when) Logan has another health crisis. She may be the only family member that Logan "needs" in his corner right now. She is using what she has to her advantage and good for her. Agree - Shiv IS going to get hung out to dry. I never sense that she has a plan to avoid repeating her previous mistakes. Everything is based on Logan's approval. I also agree that Shiv is a bit less secure in her marriage. As much as I dislike Tom, I want him to be less vulnerable in their relationship. Considering that Tom was willing to burn those papers, yes, they have value. Considering that Greg told Kendall about those papers at the end of S1, they have value. And he appeared to be holding those papers at Kendall's press conference. The question for me is not whether they have value currently but whether Logan will find a way to invalidate them.
  24. Glad that Marcia is back - and with significant demands - in order to present a united front. She clearly makes the rest of them a bit uncomfortable and I love that. Which is why I need to watch every episode twice...once with closed captioning on. I wouldn't trust any of the Roy kids to run a hot dog stand. Their sense of entitlement and insecurities make it difficult to properly assess their abilities to run any type of organization much less a world-wide conglomerate. It IS about getting what they think is theirs. Each of them looks at their siblings as unworthy competition for the top spot. Regardless, Logan has no intention of letting Shiv control anything. Her smile in the limo at the end tells me that she truly doesn't understand the depth of his ruthlessness. I don't see that any of this works out well for Kendall, despite his intentions. He seems reluctant or unable to see possible outcomes and consequences, even as Lisa Arthur was instructing him to do just that. Hoping that he soon finds somewhere else to camp out so he can leave Rava's apartment. No one is concerned that Greg has disappeared into the night? Does he still have the papers or are they with Kendall? Boone is nearly unrecognizable (as anyone other than Santa Claus).
  25. Agree - Naomi is selfish and manipulative. She loves the "broken" version of Kendall...exactly what she accused Logan of doing. Kendall is fueled by adrenaline, ego and (if not right now then soon) cocaine. He is a ticking time bomb. He brings in experts - the communications team, the lawyers - and talks over them. He can't sit still. I've never been impressed by Kendall's business savvy or intelligence. He talks fast, curses and threatens. He will self-destruct...again...it's just a matter of when. Agree. Something irreversible but yet logical has to happen.
