  1. I thought the same thing, and then, oh please NO. Aren't the Kaylon enough? I'm only interested in seeing this horrific species again if somehow the Admiral's and the other crew members' DNA transforms them for the better and makes them interested in peaceful contact and interaction. THAT would be intriguing. This is an episode I won't watch again. It was tedious and too obviously owed too much to previous films. Does Braga think most of the viewers are too young to have seen seen "The Fly" and "Alien"? Not enough tension in the drawn-out scenes while we waited for the monster to jump out. What is the SOP for the crew when all systems go down? Lock yourself in your quarters and wait for instructions? Assemble in designated areas? Who gets to huddle on the bridge in life-threatening emergency situations? Are there only 25 people on the ship now? And where are Klyden and Topa? Dr. Finn's younger son is the smart one, urging his older brother to follow her instructions to stay in their quarters instead of foolishly going in search of mommy. Last week the older son's storyline was fine and BJ Tanner is a good actor, but now I'm ready for him to ship out to Starfleet Academy or Hogwart's or somewhere. "Don't go into the scary house!" was good advice and they should have made a log note about the strange space thing and moved along.
  2. I tuned in to the first season after a few episodes had aired thinking it would be mostly a "Galaxy Quest"-style parody. I quickly caught up after being pleasantly surprised that it was a blend of goofy comedy and space drama. I knew it was supposed to be set more than a century after the original ST and ST:TNG but I liked thinking it was the early days of Earthlings in space, before the Federation, and it made total sense that the crew at times were goofy and awkward and a bit militarily unprofessional. In later episodes they amped up the action and drama without giving up the comedy and I happily followed along, becoming a big fan. Not sure where this is going now, but I'm not excited by more of the techy action either, and although I enjoy the great look of the show, I thought they did a fine job in S1 and S2. We're all at the mercy of Seth and I hope he doesn't over-reach and spoil it.
  3. Guinan did finally feel like Guinan here and Ito Aghayere does a good job in the role but I would have preferred Whoopie for a feeling of immediate connection to Guinan. I don't mind the CGI de-aging. Yes, John DeLancie is well worth watching, even when I'm not enjoying other things going on. Sir Pat is still a pleasure and has at least one strong scene each episode. Jeri Ryan is awesome as Seven. Glad the writers did a good job expanding her character because they have failed in a lot of other ways. I'm not working to follow the plot(s) closely anymore because it does seem to me that it requires knowledge of series/episodes and films I have never seen or haven't seen in many years. That said, I'm still in and will watch S3.
  4. I find Colbourne attractive and yes, lonely and sad, and introverted to begin with so he went more into himself after losing his wife. Charlotte indeed brought him out of his shell. As much as he'd be the guy for me, I would love to see the show take a surprising turn and have Ralph prove to be the best mate for Charlotte. Watching her come to that realization would be enjoyable, and he's easy on the eyes, too. The whole "farmer" thing is widely misunderstood as that he's out there every day plowing the fields and has no education. Ralph may be the oldest son and heir to a prosperous property, just not an estate and mansion like Colbourne's. The Bennets of "Pride and Prejudice" were a farm family and Mr. B was a gentleman.
  5. I think the reason we won't see S3 sooner than January 2023 is because PBS hopes to use the show to "sell" their PBS Passport streaming app ($5 a month minimum though you can pledge more) which gives you full access to S1 and S2 and many other PBS shows current and past. They also use the show for the local affiliate stations' pledge drives. It seems PBS doesn't have any similar costume drama coming down the pipeline so they'll show S3 when they believe it will be most useful and gain the biggest audience for them. Why that is eight months from now, I truly don't know.
  6. I hate that she (and the actress) isn't coming back and yet we'll be stuck with Edward for another season. I wonder what they'll do with Clara. It didn't seem like much resolution for her, just going off on her own although I suppose Esther and Lord B will be giving her funds. They don't want George to grow up and find they just cast off his biological mother to poverty. In those days "gentlemen" thought it much more important to pay "debts of honor" such as gambling debts than debts owed to mere merchants. I really really wish PBS would relent and show S3 in the fall.
  7. Good point! The times she was scratching her arms were meant to show that she was suffering withdrawl. Clara made mention of "poor unfortunates" she had seen on the streets of London doing the same. But as soon as all was revealed, Esther's addiction was miraculously broken! So much of that story line was badly written. I only enjoyed the growth of friendship between her and Clara. Having the show be cancelled and then renewed caused so many problems with plotting! There was haste to write new episodes plus some of the main cast members were no longer available. For those who aren't aware, S2 and S3 were filmed back to back so S3 is done already but we have to wait until spring 2023 to see it. It's been made pretty clear, not just in his talks with Georgiana but in his relationship with Lockhart. He admitted to Georgiana that he had been charmed by Lockhart; I think he had a crush on him. Lockhart knew or at least suspected and used Arthur's interest/attraction to him to gain G's trust and easier access to her. So not only was Arthur's trust broken but his heart was wounded as well. I got the impression that his attraction to Lockhart did confirm to him that he prefers the company of men and thus he should not marry because he would be cheating Georgiana of a proper marital relationship. Maybe her mother threatened never to speak to her again if she refused Ralph. ;-)
  8. A bit bummed that Lockhart turned out to be the bad guy (as many figured he would be). The three friends were indeed a fun trio and I wish it had gone some other way so he could still be in the story. I too barely missed Sidney. LOL! At least the part of S2 where I was to become more interested in Charlotte's other suitors was successful. It seems like Lord B would bring charges against the man who so harmed his beloved wife. I just don't believe that Edward would basically be allowed to get away with it, though maybe to protect Clara it was dropped and Lady D passed the judgement and issued his "sentence". She did at least inform the Colonel who kicked him out of the Army, which Lady D knew would give Edward nowhere else to go. They seem to be painting him as a deep introvert who is very uncomfortable around others and at the same time a broken-hearted man who is also filled with guilt. Maybe he's depressed on top to that! His character is just poorly written. The actor is doing what he can with it but it's frustrating for Charlotte and the viewers, too. I certainly hope Tom makes that his final bet. It was dramatic but I understand why it was disappointing to see him put the whole situation on a hand of cards when he could so easily have lost and been deeper in debt. Poor Mary. I hope we see him turn down such temptations in S3. Yes, we saw Ralph at the dance that began S2, and also early in the season Charlotte made a statement about how much she did not want to go home and marry Ralph. I'm going to say that maybe he should be her husband. Colbourne has so many red flags waving, and if his nature is so introverted as to be anti-social, then she is too young and lively for him. His first marriage failed because he didn't want to stay in London and attend parties with his new bride. Will he also deny Charlotte such simply pleasures? Also, I'm sure with his nature he'll be a really fun dad as he drags Augusta and Leo off to travel the world. /s
  9. I realized a few years ago that I have many long-time female friends (we're all 48-60 now) who are childfree by choice. Most are married and they married when they were young enough to have children but their partners were fine with no kids. I have a few friends from my 20s and early 30s who do have children and most of those kids are now in their mid teens or early 20s so the parents (now in their early 50s) are more free to hang out again. I haven't checked these boards in a while. Not surprised that Cam is doing an ad campaign for Tuckernuck as the brand fits her "lifestyle" quite well. I doubt I'll watch the show if it ever comes on again. But who knows? I love Charleston, have friends there and visit often so enjoyed watching it just to get a glimpse of the locales. Cam added a touch of the upper-middle-class young women who live there and I wish they had gone more in that direction than the mostly frat-boy stupidity it's devolved to.
  10. Is he a quack though? His "shower" was not a bad invention, just intentionally used wrongly by what's her name so it got discredited. He knew that the "medicine" Esther was taking would harm if not kill her and though he had no cure to offer he gave her a placebo thinking it might help ease her stress and emotional suffering. Right now he is saying she is hysterical but he hasn't sent her to a madhouse and I hold out hope that he will figure out that she's taking something else that she should not be.
  11. Yes, knowing the history of "hysteria" made it even more disappointing to me that the doctor diagnosed her with it. I so hoped he would be smart enough to at least suspect something was wrong, ask some questions, and then expose Edward's scheme. Perhaps he still will.
  12. I like that he's not an easy character to figure out. The other men are so obvious! This "hiding the letters" plot is dumb. I believe that Lord Babbington by now would have gotten in his carriage and come to find out why his wife was not answering his letters. Maybe it would have worked for two weeks but people back then wrote often, so after that he would have been contacting Lady D and everyone he knew in Sanditon, frantic with worry. I really thought that the doctor suspected what was really going on with Esther and would quietly investigate. Very disappointed at the entire "she's going mad" plot and that he's also an idiot who can't figure it out. Interesting that he admitted the tincture he gave her was a placebo. So, why isn't he more suspicious? PLEASE let him figure it out, or let They did take dancing lessons, but yes, I don't think the dances were quite what the choreographers are creating for us today! NO! I do not. It's ruining their charming love story and how much I enjoy watching her character, for me the best part of the series. I hope this plot device is exposed next episode and doesn't carry over.
  13. Tom has been thrilled that the military was in town because he thought they would throw money around, so it's possible that he urged the merchants to extend credit.
  14. The widow wouldn't care about Charlotte but for Charlotte the presence of the woman Sidney married would be a painful reminder of what she had lost.
  15. She also was not pleased when Lennox requested that she take a turn. She tried to decline politely and he pushed. I think she chunked (or we might say she "choked") because she was nervous. She didn't care much if she shot well for Lennox; she did care for Colbourne. I'm starting to wonder if the Widow (Mrs. Sidney) Parker is going to show up and further ruin Charlotte's life. Maybe for a twist Colbourne will be attracted to her or she will pursue him.
  16. Clara had little choice but to accept Edward's proposal. No matter how evil and cruel his plans, marriage would immediately elevate her to wife and her son to legitimacy. She owes it to her child to take the offer, and she simply doesn't have the moral fiber to choose living always in obscure poverty over being made a respectable member of society. I hope however that she will be the quiet undoing of all Edward's plans. He might end up being a terrible husband, but she'll still have her position, and if he deserts her Lady Denham can then take her in and protect her as the wronged wife.
  17. Now that we've got some female bonding happening it's time for Tom's wife to get a gal pal of her own to back her in drawing a hard line at his behavior before he once and for all bankrupts the family. I really want to see her come into her own as her family's protector.
  18. I like her character too (and loved her in "Lark Rise") and hope we see more of her. Also, I'd like to see Tom's wife get more screen time and show more personality rather than simply being the long-suffering mate tolerating his delusions, dramas, and inability to recognize when he's being taken!
  19. I'm betting that, given how this show has "modernized" the plotlines, dead wife will have been an opium addict or something of the sort. Thus, she "destroyed" herself and Recluse Widower von Trapp was merely forced to helplessly watch her slow deterioration.
  20. The older officer has a noticeable scar and the younger one has a more boyish face. I'm not at all good with faces but I picked up on this in the first episode so I assumed the scar is to help us tell them apart, know that he is the older and higher ranking one, plus hint that he's been wounded in combat. I agree that Georgianna is getting tiresome. Her scenes with Arthur are a pleasure though and I'm intrigued by the friendship they have created with the artist. I think he was psychologically manipulating her but would not have had sex with her because taking her virginity or worse getting her pregnant would have outraged Lady Denham and gotten him or both of them disinherited. He was playing a long game to keep her under his control.
  21. Rios could have asked Theresa to try to bring the communicator to him although who knows where it wound up while she was in custody. I guess ICE doesn't allow visitors though, even a doctor asking to treat a wound. Maybe the kid picks it up and as an adult reverse engineers it and...
  22. What bugs me about it is that 2024 looks like way too much like 2004. And I don't care to spend mental time figuring out what timeline they're supposed to be in and which historic or future event may or may not have made this version of 2024 what it is. That said, the scene worked for me simply because it made me laugh that his looks were played for menacing but he was a mild-mannered sweetie, so even if you didn't get the in-joke it was fun. I don't know or remember all the multiple ST series' episodes or films well enough to catch Easter eggs such as "the punk from Voyager". (Never watched Voyager or DS9.) I would never have got Tracy Torme because I'm not that knowledgeable about the production teams, even though I knew there was something about the book they wanted us to focus on. It can be a bit tiresome at times but in general I'm able to enjoy the series as is, with just basic memories of TOS, TNG, and some of the movies. It's entertaining and I enjoyed rewatching S1 to get myself ready for S2. Yet I don't see myself re-watching S2 before S3 is shown.
  23. I think it was established in a later episode of S1 that Esther and Edward never had sex. Perhaps in the conversation between Esther and Clara where Clara insinuated that Edward was sexually using/abusing Esther in the same way an uncle had abused Clara.
  24. Feisty young do-gooder doctor will just have to die when a taxi hits her right in front of Rios. Elnor will be there to comfort him.
  25. Arthur (some have nicknamed him "Jolly" since that's what he is) seems quite firm that marriage is not for him so I assume he knows he is not attracted to women and thus would be a disappointing husband in that regard. I like his friendship with Miss Lambe.
