  1. I forgot that Esther took the baby to raise. What happened to the other woman, the baby's mother? I didn't tune in until about 9:05 so I figured PBS ran a couple of minutes of "Previously on Sanditon" clips to get everyone up to speed but perhaps not? Did PBS run a marathon of S1 and S2 before S3 returned?
  2. I'm surprised at the plot line of Augusta possibly becoming entangled with Edward. I think Colburne will be onto that quickly but it might allow for highjinks like Augusta planning an elopement. Where are the mother of Edward's baby and the baby? As for Ralph, it's soooooo obvious that Charlotte is not in love with him and is only using him because she has to marry someone, can't expect her parents to support her forever. Geez, now that Colburne is making googley eyes she should fess up to Ralph and send him off to fall in love more compatibly with one of her younger sisters who is probably already in love with him. He's a sweetheart and doesn't deserve Miss Seaside Resort Sophisticate looking down on his simple country farmer life. Let her marry and deal with Mr. Tormented Introvert. Ah well, if I had my way then there'd be no drama!
  3. This reference likely is way before the time of others watching this show, but Ross looks like he's well on the way to becoming W.C. Fields. Somebody needs to show Ross photos of W.C. and maybe it will scare him sober. Yeah, she said she went off pretty early because it seems she wasn't willing to get model thin. She said she told Tyra "I like snacks". And that's when I fell in love with Rachel. One of those crew meeting scenes also made me think "mutiny" in regard to Capt. Sandy, which made me think of the Taika Waititi HBO show "Our Flag Means Death", which I think of often now while watching this show! A mashup of the two shows could make a good SNL skit.
  4. Maybe because now some people see them as "dirty" plates rather than plates with some uneaten food (or "cleaned" plates if empty). I think it's rude to remove plates while others are eating. Reminds me of my mom jumping up to start washing dishes two seconds after she'd finished her own dinner. It pushes the others to finish quickly and interrupts whatever pleasant conversation is underway. I can see many restaurants pushing this in order to turn the table more quickly but I think in truly fine dining it always should be a huge NO. I read or saw somewhere that when dining with Queen Elizabeth II (and apparently it began with some monarch before her), once she finishes a course and then her meal, everyone else must put their forks down, and the plates are removed, no matter how much is left on each plate. I can actually see why such protocol is followed, don't want the monarch sitting there idly waiting for the slowest eater to finish -- and to be fair to her I heard that she on purpose ate slowly -- but maybe strict adherence to that is something King Charles will leave in the bin of history. I haven't hosted a dinner party in a while but now I recall that it's good manners for the host to eat slowly and notice the other guests' pace so as not to finish eating ahead of them. I didn't quite understand the "I had to dry clean myself" comment. He said he had "nothing" in his shower so I thought he meant no soap, body wash, shampoo, or even conditioner that he could suds up with, so essentially he just went in and out of the water. It seems like he would have noticed no towels before he got into the shower, and been mighty steamed about it as well. He really was just that happy to be back. Another Bravo reality show has filmed twice at my friend's place of business. She says they did indeed shoot "retakes" sometimes and try saying things differently or to get different angles but there was no script.
  5. Rachel is off her game in planning and timing, but these guests always seem like the type to check the box (on a likely production sheet the primary is handed) that says "Tasting menu" when they have never had a true tasting menu experience in their lives. I agree that none of these "friends" seem to be able to develop a dinner conversation. Plus, they're mostly drunk by the time dinner is served, and served soooo late, too. If this weren't all set up for drama I'd say Rachel needs to talk to the primary about not just the menu but meal times (start time as well as how long the meal might last). She also needs a stew dedicated to helping her in the galley for dinner if not for all three meals. If that happened, there wouldn't be any draaaaama though. I am sure that finding and casting crew members in need of serious psychotherapy is at the top of the producers' list for these shows.
  6. I think Camille is all about pushing to see what she can get away with. That story about getting kicked out of private high school and then "I got my GED and went to college anyway" nah nah nah middle finger to the principal, etc. Oh, and she dated the quarterback in said college so double-win I guess. [eyeroll] We've seen crew members get it on under blankets out on the deck late at night so Tony should have kicked them out after that first time. Surprised that Camille didn't lead Ben (so enamored he's easily led) to a guest room and tell him it would be fine to do it there, and then leave the bed unmade the next morning.
  7. I will keep watching until this mystery is solved, even if I have to sit through a 3-part reunion!
  8. He also said he would be "grumpy" and when he was not able to do his workout there were scenes where his anger, not just grumpiness, flashed through and I was like "woah, dude".
  9. Tony is not doing yoga, he's mixing some yoga poses in with his workout. Yoga doesn't involve weights and other tools like he's using. And yeah, he should tone down the grunting though I guess he does it early enough and the boat is large enough that he's away from guests. Neither captain has a problem with him doing the workout, Ross was concerned because Tony was getting up so early and maybe not getting enough sleep. Teaching a class to guests would not be the same as the intense workout he seems to need to relieve his stress and give him that endorphin buzz.
  10. I think Camille is the type of girl/woman who works her looks and is very fake in her relationships. She is all about what she can get, for example, the references to dating the quarterback. Clearly she got a lot of status out of that relationship even though she mentioned he cheated a lot so that's why she (eventually) broke up with him (she says). She's going to use her looks and attitude to pull in some rich guy -- I've seen it happen many times. "I'm too special and fabulous to work, I should be one of the wealthy guests" is her life goal. Compare that with the other female deckhand who seems to want to work her way up to being a captain and is doing a great job so far (despite her poor choice to give Ross any attention outside of their work roles).
  11. I agree that it's a wig and your post reminds me of my thoughts about "maintenance" on a 6-8 charter job like this. I was wondering when these people have time to cut their nails and hair to keep themselves looking good for the job. I mean, they're walking around barefoot all the time so even the men need to pay extra attention to their feet and toenails. And no one wants dinner served by someone with overgrown ragged fingernails. (Which reminds me of an earlier season when Kyle made a remark to one of the female yachties about her "badly manicured nails".) Don't know how it works in the real world of yacht work, but I imagine during these productions they have a day scheduled for everyone to get a mani-pedi and a haircut + wig-wash.
  12. I like Hayley's humor and she seems to be very dedicated to getting the jobs done. No backtalk and she didn't try to get in the middle of the yelling match, wanted nothing to do with it. But yeah, that HAIR! Is it a wig, I think she's called it a wig. If so, does it ever get washed? Seems to me like it would be nasty after a couple of weeks. Same if it's her real hair, just looks so matted and unkempt. I'm surprised Capt. Lee hasn't told her to put it up, but I'm really not because clearly it's a part of her persona/the character she is playing for the show. If I were a paying guest I'd not want her anywhere near my food or table, no matter how hard she works.
  13. I would love to have a set of guests come on and say straight up, "We'll be drinking heavily so we want meat and potatoes to soak it up and then a big detox breakfast. Maybe some light fish and salad for lunch before we get to drinking again." I really enjoy the "work hard, play hard" aspects of the show and watching the plans come together like the fine meals and the beach picnics. Then seeing the gang go off the boat to party or have a relaxing day off (that usually goes sideways). I know the producers have their "playbook" and it's well worn now, but just seeing how the gang comes together and how they handle various requests and mishaps is plenty interesting to me. I don't need super crazy or overly sexual unless it's in the Rachel mode, which I find hilarious.
  14. I'm late to watching this season and got interested mostly because Captain Lee and Rachel are back. And Ros is nice to look at. I don't know what I'll learn as the season goes on, but interesting conjecture that Capt. Lee may not be actually "captaining" the boat this season because he got his start on the show through a fluke. According to his book, the original "captain" that had been cast didn't work for some reason so the producers were trying quickly to cast another one. Captain Lee was there, the real captain who was running the boat, and he told them there could not be two captains, one on camera and one (himself) actually doing the job, it just wouldn't work. So they asked him to be on camera and the rest is history. So I'd be surprised if it came out that he really was just "playing" the role of captain this season. He does look much older, and I'm sorry to read about his back/nerve issues. He has been through a lot losing his son and having a couple of serious physical problems. Maybe it's time to hang up the captain's hat, at least for this show. He could take a break and then do charters on smaller boats and probably have a lot of fun. He would be the big draw "Sail with Captain Lee!" I'd do it, for sure.
  15. She walked away from it until she wanted credit to buy a fashionable outfit, shoes, and accessories and have her hair styled in the ship's salon. 😉 (After all she'd been through, I didn't blame her.) I see they also managed to book 1st class accommodations. Maybe he won them in a poker game.
  16. I also thought perhaps they had already married and I what I thought was the "engagement party" was instead the first night of their big honeymoon trip with family. But nothing in this episode indicated they were already married and thus Alex committed bigamy. I was coming up with thoughts of a previous marriage Alex had not revealed to Spencer, like maybe a titled husband who died in WWI or from the flu pandemic. Maybe in a wild twist it was Arthur's elder brother. And the father we think is the Earl is a Prince ("a Prince in the line of succession") so the dead elder son who left Alex a titled widow was indeed styled as an Earl. Otherwise she couldn't be the Countess of Sussex if Arthur's father still carries the Earl of Sussex. Fun to speculate but none of it fits. Sheridan could just have called her "Lady Whoever" to indicate that she's from an aristocratic family.
  17. They were discussing how to avoid her having to "wait months" to be allowed into the U.S. All she had to do was say, "Darling, I have my passport and I'm a titled British aristocrat, I can easily gain entrance." The fictitious difficulty with immigration served the plot so it bothered me less that the title duplication. Maybe she wanted to "leave it all behind" and not have him ever know she had a title, but once she arrived in the U.S. it would be dumb not to just hand them her passport.
  18. Another thing about Alex's title reveal. If she was still carrying her passport, and I imagine it was in her one brown valise that made it all the way to the Majestic with her, then it would indicate to U.S. immigration officers that she was a British peer, or daughter of a peer (Lady XYZ), and they would wave her into the U.S. as a visitor with a stay limit at least, if not as a immigrant intending to reside permanently. Only immigrants of lower status had to "wait months" for entry. A wealthy Brit certainly would not. Sheridan is playing loose with the facts, but it did make for a nice "married at sea" story.
  19. Yes, there aren't standalone English countesses, that stuck in my craw also. Sheridan wanted to do a big reveal "She's got a title!" but we already knew from the first that she was from a wealthy family when she told her friend that the marriage to Arthur was just a real estate transaction. Then when Alex mentioned "you don't need cash when you can get credit" to buy Spencer a suit it was pretty clear that she was going to use her name which would have been all that was needed to charge merchandise on a British luxury liner. Then all Sheridan had to do was have the captain say to Spencer, "You're saying that the daughter of the Earl of XYG is your wife?" and Jennifer confirm, yes, Alex is an Earl's daughter.
  20. Exactly. Sheridan could have made up a fictitious title for Alex, like the "Countess of Darlton" or something. And yes, the son of the Earl does not also have the title Earl, he is known by a lesser title until he inherits his father's title. So I can wave away that the ship's officer got the facts wrong, it was the Earl's son not the Earl who was dueling, but the error of Alex's "Sussex" title is just dumb.
  21. I was sickened from the first by the over-the-top violence shown with the Indian girls. Yes, I know it happened but that doesn't mean I need to watch it depicted to that depth to believe it. The repeated scenes with the prostitutes are just more prolonged torture porn with no real point. They could easily have shown Dalton's character to be a sadist (or whatever) without two scenes. These things really turn me off the show. I'm confused by this. When the ship's officer informed the captain of the impending duel, he said it's between "some American and the Earl of Sussex". Ok, so Alex's jilted fiancé (Arthur) is the Earl of Sussex. Then when the captain tells Spencer he will be removed from the boat, the captain refers to Alex as the Countess of Sussex, and her friend (Jennifer) says yes that's who she is. But how is Alex the Countess of Sussex? She didn't marry Arthur. The captain then says that the Earl of Sussex doubts the validity of the marriage and later we learn that the Earl is Arthur's father, not Arthur. So maybe the ship's officer was confused and Arthur was the son of the Earl of Sussex. I'm thinking that Sheridan did very little research on the British peerage and their titles. He likely used the Sussex title knowing many Americans would recognize it. The title of the Duke of Sussex lapsed in 1843 (according to Wikipedia) and QEII revived it in 2018 for Prince Harry. So Sheridan made an in-joke I guess (ha ha). But it still doesn't work that both Alex and her fiancé's family share the same title, not even if they are first cousins. I do predict that a timely death will mean that Alex inherits the money to save the Yellowstone. Also, what a total idiot was Arthur. Jennifer seemed to be interested in him when she asked him to dance. She's eligible, attractive, and probably also titled. Arthur should have listened to his father's advice about being fortunate to get out of an unloving marriage and looked to the next lady in waiting. He certainly proved himself a foolish prat, so Alex was right in not wanting to marry him. With all that's happened to them, I'm surprised that Spencer instead of thinking "put her back" wasn't thinking "this lady is bad luck and I need to shed her fast"!😉 I, too, love the old and new ways clashing, very well illustrated by the horses vs cars, and the house Banner was given vs the Yellowstone ranch house which is also luxurious but doesn't have electricity. Spencer was aware that Alex would have a problem with immigration and that's the primary reason (besides love and sex and surviving together numerous close scrapes with death) he asked the captain to marry them right there. So duh, he certainly should have asked for a letter from the captain attesting to the marriage. And likely it would be there with the letters in the valise that Alexandra carried all the way through their adventures and spilled on the deck. So that would give her documentation when she follows Spencer to America. Right, Taylor Sheridan? Also, I think in those day especially a titled Brit would have no trouble waving a passport and swanning right through customs. They'd resolve the paperwork for her to stay in America by establishing the validity of the marriage, or even having a second one in Montana.
  22. So I read somewhere that in Georgia or in Dekalb County if you are even one day late with a mortgage payment, you go into foreclosure. That seems to be the "story" K&K are going with, that they just made a late payment. But the foreclosure started back in November so I'm still thinking they are BROKE but managed to pull together or get loans for the cash they needed to keep the auctioneer at bay.
  23. So I can't edit my post above but apparently I mentally fan-fic'd the "Stede being held in Ed's arms" scene I described. On re-watch I see that instead it was more of a big hug from behind when they were all celebrating that the lighthouse ruse worked. When I first read some of these posts and that several had re-watched more than once, I thought "Wow, they're into it." Now that's ME -- I've watched the entire series 3 times through. I love looking for the small details, like how in the Gentleman Pirate episode we see Lucius figure out that Jackie's dagger (the one she is holding up to Stede's nose) is what Jim was after, and he pickpockets it as he squeezes by her when they leave Jackie's place. Cannot wait for Season 2.
  24. So if Kroy if has a minor in psychology, why didn't he see Kim's gambling addiction and try to do something about it rather than let her glamorize it on the show? She always needed to show everyone how "rich" she was by spending as if they had billions. Didn't Kroy understand the psychology behind that behavior? I didn't expect him to "stop" her addiction but to do other things to secure their home and finances. His parents were right about her! So the house is to be auctioned off from the courthouse steps on March 7. Kim is still selling used wigs and crap through her resell website and I haven't looked at it but reading that there are markdowns. Seems desperate. Apparently the foreclosure was initiated last November and they haven't managed to work things out. Has her online makeup business failed? Are they nearly broke? Somehow I have a feeling that at the 11th hour they'll come up with just enough cash to get the sheriff off their backs for another few months. Sad to think that one day their kids will find out just how much money mom and dad burned through with nothing to show for it, except Versace china.
  25. I enjoyed the show when I first watched this past week, though yes, I wasn't quite on board (pun intended) until the third episode. Then boy did it pick up! Afterward I came and read these posts, and that some had re-watched a few times. I didn't think I would but then certain scenes stayed in my mind and I wanted to see them again. So now I've watched the entire season through a second time, and a few episodes a third time! There's so much detail, I love catching things I first missed. For example, when Lucius is about to have his finger amputated, he wakes up with a start and asks "Am I dead?" and Black Pete says, "No, Baby". After Lucius starts screaming Black Pete again calls him "Baby". I did not catch that until the third time I watched. And another early "tell" about Blackbeard's feelings for Stede. After they pull off the lighthouse ruse, they are resting against the mast, Blackbeard with his back against it and Stede leaning back into Blackbeard's chest being held in his arms. They look so comfortable and content. I didn't really "see" it until rewatch.
