  1. Oh man this show was bad. The writing was appalling, and I kept wondering how they got such a good cast to sign onto this mess. Even Damien Lewis, whom I have never cared for as an actor and think was all wrong for the part anyway, is a big enough star to turn down such a terrible script. I felt bad for them having to deliver those lines. My husband was so excited for this show, which definitely falls in his wheelhouse, could not stop talking about how terrible it was.
  2. I thought so too. In fact I thought it was bad writing--too obvious and not really true to Noah's character to be that observant--but earlier in the thread a lot of people were saying they didn't think alison even thought about it until Scotty. Also, I mentioned earlier that I thought Cole was hinting to Alison that he knew, but that was from Alison's perspective when she was feeling paranoid. I don't think he actually had a suspicion since the baby did come 5 weeks early so the timing is off as far as he knows.
  3. In Noah's perspective, he said that Alison was always watching him with the baby. He thought it was because she was still angry with him, but I definitely thought they were hinting that Alison was trying to see if she could tell if Noah was the father. Was I the only one who thought that. I Also Thought When Cole said something to Alison along the lines of, "is that the only reason you wanted to meet with me?" That he was expecting her to tell him that the baby was his. Anyone else?
  4. I'm giving Cole the benefit of the doubt. Yes, it's super dickish the way he reacted to Louisa, but he was just learning the news and was in a very emotional place. Not everyone reacts the right way at first but needs a while to process something first. And a lot of people think of how something affects them first, especially if they are already in a self pitying state. As a caveat, I haven't actually watched the whole scene yet.
  5. I dont think Cole knows about Alison's pregnancy at the time of the move--otherwise he wouldn't have been so pissed about alison not showing up to do the packing. Also not getting the baby bwing early thing. Mathwise, if she's trying to cover up the paternity question, she wants the baby to be further along, not early. And she was sleeping with them simultaneously plus Oscar a LONG time before this because of the jumps in time. Am I missing somethjng? I do get a little confused with the timeline. I also think it's 1L because her waitress name tag was 1L. I couldn't help but think about my own pregnancy when Noah couldn't find his phone. My husband was crazy about having his phone on him throughout all 3 of my pregnancies, especially the last trimester. For him to be away during a hurricane and not be glued to his phone is pathological in my mind.
  6. I do not think a fleeting thought of sex with someone else is "tempted to cheat." I believe cheating happens after many less obvious boundaries have already been crossed. But the way Noah said it, it was like he was some kind of hero for managing to keep it in his pants.
  7. I am watching the first season right now, and Noah tells Alison he has never cheated on Helen before. He could be lying, but it's from his perspective and doesn't seem like a lie. He says it like, "of course I've thought about it plenty of times, but I never actually followed through until now". My husband and I laughed about it because the way he said it made it seem like it's a given that everyone thinks about cheating on their spouse. As if a human cannot possibly see an attractive person without being tempted to cheat.ETA: I am 1979, so not a millenial but the same graduating class as the oldest millenials, and my friends would absolutely not identify themselves as such. I do not think Treem sees herself as a millenial (although she probably doesnt see herself as Gen X either. Does anyone else remember when they tried to make Gen Y happen?) or is making fun of older Helen. I thought that was a fun scene showing Helen having a good time.
  8. Who is playing Laurent Brosseau? I know I should know him but can't figure it out. It's bothering me so badly and is not on imdb
  9. I thought Colleen was an asshole and was glad to see her go
  10. Many years ago, my cousin's Doberman attacked his niece (also my cousin, but for clarity, I will stick to calling her the niece), and bit her in the face, practically removing her entire upper lip. This was not the dog's first attack, not even to a person's face, and the niece, who was only 8 at the time, has had to have multiple surgeries well into adulthood (which my cousin did pay for to his credit), so we assumed he would have the dog put down and we all expressed our sympathies because we did recognize that he viewed the dog as family. He was basically like, "what are you talking about. Why would I put the dog down?" Needless to say, everyone was appalled, and it caused quite a bit of family drama. Cut to a few years later, my cousin had his first child, and the dog not his crawling toddler. Thankfully, it was not as bad as the bite to the niece, but he had he dog put down that day. WTH did he think was going to happen? Anyway, one of the things we learned over all this is that part of the danger of breeds like those, along with pit bulls and chows is that they bite to kill. German shepherds and other herding dogs like that might bite, but their natural instinct is to bite a leg or an arm. My cousin and Kim are very lucky no one was killed, but it is only a matter of time. And there is something really disturbing about watching a show just waiting for something truly terrible to happen.
  11. Unfortunately, she is actually a very good friend to the family so she refuses to divulge all the truly juicy details. It's very frustrating. I try to dig as much as I can, but the way she talks about it, you can tell it's truly horrifying to the family and she feels like it would be a betrayal to really go into it as much as I would like her to. Basically, Thomas is a jerk, always has been. The baby of the family by quite a lot and spoiled to death by the mother. Dad is also a jerk and philanderer so the apple didn't fall far from the tree. The family actually really liked Katherine after the first season, but now things are a total embarrassing mess (don't know details but apparently would be embarrassing even if not being documented on national television). He was very successful in the real estate, did it on his own, but the name certainly helped. This show is more humiliating to the family than his jail time, if that's possible.
  12. We know someone who is quite close with his family and has known him since he was a small child. Apparently he is a total jerk and always has been. His family is humiliated and are encouraging him to move to Palm Beach (where he plays a lot of polo). They want absolutely nothing to do with the show, which seems to be the general consensus in Charleston anyway.
  13. Unfortunately, I don't think I am--we had a little boy, not a girl. But that would have been very cool!
  14. I heard that Jeanette (or whatever her name is) was being paid much less than Ariana and wanted to be paid more equitably, especially since the show was doing pretty well. Nickelodeon tried to use the leaked photos of Jeanette as a reason not to pay her more (even though they weren't really all that risqué and there was basically no fan backlash over them whatsoever), and eventually contract negotiations broke down. The network was being unreasonable and manipulative with a young star, and Ariana wasn't particularly supportive of a friend and long-time costar but also not a big drama queen about it. On another note, I like Derrick too, and they said on Jokers that one reason he and Cody were was against back dooring Frankie was that it was a big move and he didn't want Caleb getting the credit for it, which I think makes perfect sense. Finally, Frankie just gave a shout out to all the people in labor on Labor Day. While I hate him, I actually appreciated it seeing as I am in the hospital with my newborn typing this:)
  15. Even if Frankie was right about America not being comfortable with drag, those people aren't comfortable with men who are truly dressed as women for the sake of it, rather than how Frankie was imitating Joey. Americans have been quite comfortable with men dressed as women for the sake of humor for generations. Of course, his impression wasn't particularly funny so...
  16. At least where I am from (off topic but it's where Jersey Belle is located), ma'am is used for everyone. You would not use "miss" for anyone. But agreed that I do not consider Frankie's part of Florida the South. He would never be considered Southern, so his use of ma'am might be different. I don't know. ETA: yes, I would certainly not use it if I thought it would offend someone. When strangers use honey or sweetheart type addresses, it makes my skin crawl, and I have actually had people tell me that's my problem when I've objected to their use.
  17. I'm from the South, and ma'am is not only acceptable, but the preferred address. I live up North now, and my mom is horrified that I haven't taught my boys to use it. In fact, they would say it if I had my way, but they took so long to talk that I am just happy with any kind of response. Btw, Ariana has been kind of a jerk for a while. I remember a while ago she made some admiring comments about Marilyn. Monroe. When a few fans quite reasonably pointed out that MM isn't exactly the best role model for young fans, Ariana went off on them. And these were her fans, not trolls. So I think there is a fair amount of attitude and lack of self awareness in the Grande family.
  18. I think Victoria has also gotten pretty jealous of Christine and derrick's relationship, and Derrick has had to do a lot of reassuring recently.
  19. I don't have a problem with people not helping Donny win, and I do think Derrick deserves to win the game. But I don't like seeing a pile on of an especially nice person for no reason whatsoever. And while I think he is playing a good game, Derrick gets so petty and cry baby over people not buying his BS, even though those not buying it are completely incapable of hurting his game at this point. But I think he's probably the least offensive about his Donny bashing than all the others because his anger is game-related, while the others are just mean-spirited children who enjoy bullying and being part of the in crowd. But most of them are young, and hopefully that will change with maturity and experience.
  20. On jokers, they were saying that Christine, Cody and Derrick were talking about the BOB and how it was making the game much harder and that they hated it. I thought that was interesting since they seemed to have benefited the most from this twist.
  21. I was just kidding. I do think that is probably the case for most translations, but I truly doubt Caleb ever really thought it through that much.
  22. If you think about it, if God made us all in his image, doesn't he have to be a hermaphrodite? Deep thoughts. Also, I don't really blame Frankie for fibbing on his age since it's pretty standard in the entertainment industry.
  23. From my own experiences, the people who have been the biggest bullies and jerks are those who have been bullied themselves, or even just the middle-of-the-road crowd who felt they didn't get special enough treatment while the pretty people got everything they wanted. Having gone to a big, rich public high school (and being the poorest family there and totally average looks-wise) then transferring to a nerdy alternative private school where a lot of people were on scholarships, I can easily say that there were many meaner, more cliquish people among the "nerd" crowd than the rich, pretty crowd any day. Christine and Frankie both seem bitter and remind me of that MTV show about fat camp, where you saw kids who weren't popular in their own high school but suddenly had some status at the camp and immediately became assholes.
  24. I agree that the stuff with Amber was pretty sexist and gross. There are worse misogynists in the house, but the fact that Derrick is a cop and handled the Amber/Caleb stuff the way he did is much more unsettling to me than just any other HG's comments or actions.
