  1. I wonder if Covid will get her released? If they had an outbreak kind of seems like she might have a good chance of being released. I honestly think that would be awful for her kids. I heard Lee has offered to provide her a home, which I will bet she will regret if it happens. Narcissists like Betty suck the life out of people.
  2. Not as familiar with the Clara Harris story, but wasn't hers more of a "caught hubby in the act and lost it story"? What is usually referred to as a Crime of Passion?
  3. I got married in '88, didn't have a computer, wasn't even using a computer at work then and I was in the Financial industry.
  4. I am just glad the last two shows weren't all about Leah. Still cannot stand her.
  5. Betty did not want custody of her children unless she got exactly the financial settlement she demanded. There seems to be a general misconception that she fought for custody. She never did. She did fight for more visitation, which had been severely limited, but not custody.
  6. Yeah, I especially noticed her reaction to Emily. Seemed she definitely got some kind of vibe or vision there.
  7. That is exactly the case I was trying to recall. I remembered the horrifying details, but not the name, but, yes, reminded me of this.
  8. Her parents and siblings did come out and support her during the trial, although she never felt her mother supported her. It sounds like her mom was pretty self absorbed. Betty complained her mom made it about her, and not Betty. Which is pretty Ironic, considering how she treated her own children.
  9. Not according to the book The Twelfth of Never. Dan's family and the prosecutor were both very disappointed with 2nd. Degree and Wells, the Prosecutor, spent a lot of time trying to prove premeditation.page 688: "Wells hid her disappointment well. Even if she hadn't won her first degree convictions, she hadn't entirely lost either".
  10. According to the book, there was a determined hold out that wanted Manslaughter. She would not agree to first degree, so they would have had a second hung jury. They finally got her to agree to 2nd. Degree. However, she (the hold out) assumed that 2nd. Degree would only result in a few years in prison, not a max of something like 25 years maximum (don't recall exactly), and it was 2 counts. The Judge could have made the sentences concurrent, but he did not. He sentenced her to the maximum and the sentences to run consecutively.
  11. There is no evidence that happened. None of the kids ever testified to that. Betty made a lot of stuff up. The book talks about how frustrating her lies were to her attorney's, both in the divorce and the criminal trial.
  12. Betty had a degree and worked as a schoolteacher right after her marriage, so she was not without skills. Granted her skills were not going to bring in Dan level income but, had she not given him the children, she would have received significant child support. She would have been far better off than most women after divorce. As for where they would be, IMO, Dan and Linda would never have made it long term and would have probably had a couple of kids and then ended up divorced. I married a man with 2 kids and I didn't break up his marriage, but the kids still saw me as the reason their parents would never get back together and it was tough. His Ex and I actually became friends, and his son, the youngest, came around, but his daughter never really liked me and, honestly, the feeling was mutual. Add to that their own children, which would take all of Linda's focus off Dan, and I suspect there would be another office assistant somewhere down the line. Just my opinion, of course.
  13. I think you are spot on. It was about being Mrs. Daniel Broderick, with all the perks. Since she could not have that, nothing else was ever going to be enough. Regarding the money, I remember when this case was going on. I lived in Orange County, CA, less than 2 hours from La Jolla, so we followed the case. One morning, over the paper, my husband jokingly asked me if I would shoot him if he was paying me 16,000 a month, even if he was cheating. I told him if he paid me 16 grand a month I would cater his next wedding. I was joking, if course. Sort of
  14. But, the book makes it clear the marriage was troubled. During divorce proceedings Dan brought up that they had discussed divorce almost from the day of the marriage and Betty agreed. It was likely only a threat on her part, but throwing the D word can be very damaging. In the book, it also covers that there was a period where Dan and Linda did break up and Linda was actually in a relationship with another man, although she never stopped working for him. The book also talks about how Betty threw a fit that Christmas because a ring he bought for her was not up to what she thought she deserved, and she ruined everyone's Christmas over it. In the Stumbo book, she refers to it as "the best gift Betty could have given Linda" Dan moved out two months later.
  15. I had followed this case since it happened, and I think the best book on it is "Until the Twelfth Of Never" by Bella Stumbo. She tries to present a really fair view of these people, but, honestly, it is very difficult, after a certain point, to be sympathetic to Betty. Dan was a controlling jerk, no doubt about it, but Betty not only gave him the kids, she only wanted custody If she got the financial settlement she wanted. She had a right, of course, to be angry about the affair and many other things, but people move on. Obviously, not only could she not do so in the 80's, she clearly still hasn't. If she had, she would almost certainly be free today. It really was all about Betty. Not the children, they were pawns.
  16. What is the name of the book? I would love to read it.
  17. I wasn't going to watch this year, but then quarantine, so here I am again. I have to say what Erika said about Denise's daughters was one of the most vile things I have heard on any of these shows, because it was directed at children. I knew all the "we are just Bff's" was only to gang up on LVP. So vile Kyle toyed with going after Dorit, which I might have enjoyed, but they have clearly settled on Denise. These women are so predictable and so disgusting. Team Denise.
  18. It was rude to even ask, but clearly Leah has no concerns about being rude. She is awful.
  19. I could not agree more. She is absolutely ruining this show.
  20. This. Didn't take long to find her new target. I hate Dorit too, but Kyle supposedly is her friend. Yet, she is annoyed to realize that Dorit is a self absorbed twit. Because she never noticed before?
  21. I am really not liking this show at all and find Rob Lowe's character especially unlikable. I will be glad when the original is back, even with JLH.
