Still liking this show a lot... but like most people, could do without smith... or I would at least like some of her schemes to fail, not for her to get away with every single thing... But I enjoy the dynamic with the family, I'm okay with the wacky perilous situations they keep finding themselves in...

Nancy Drew Show vs Book vs Other Adaptations
roctavia replied to Whimsy's topic in Nancy Drew (2019)
George is the other girl who works at the diner and was having the affair with Tiffany Hudson's husband (the murdered lady from the first episode) I get needing to make some changes from the books, but some stuff I feel like they changed just to change it, even though it doesn't matter. Why can't Ned just be called Ned? Why cant George and Bess be cousins?? I think what I dislike the most is that they've changed Nancy's whole back story with her dad and mom, making Carson a probably badish guy.. making her mom's death so recent.... In the books she died when Nancy was quite young, so she had a great relationship with her dad... I would have liked to see that aspect. It's just sort of, we want to make a teen ghost drama.... lets call it Nancy Drew even though it will be very tangentially related to Nancy Drew. -

They mentioned that if it was supposed to storm, it's easy to carry since all folded up with the cover down it has a handle thing.... so you still have to pay attention to the weather and make sure you put the cushions away somewhere before a storm... At least I thought that's what had said... -

Even at the Disneyland place with the fancy freak shakes they are only like $17 for one.... -
Some of the health/wellness products that Mark calls out, I don't mind- because they are people who do seem to be peddling snake oil with lots of promises that they have no research to back up.... So on occasion I'm glad someone is willing to ask if there are studies, but they didn't even get to that point with this product... and this one isn't as ridiculous as some that they've had... But Mark must need the extra attention to be crazy about it and not let anyone else hear anything the presenter has to say. I hate it when they do that (most of the time anyway, there have been a few really annoying people with awful products that shouldn't have made it to the tank). The shovel idea showed some promise- though I didn't realize gardening/landscaping needed to be that precise. The razor thing wasn't all that interesting, too expensive and i fast forwarded after the initial pitch :P The nuts did sound good, but pricey and I wonder about the conditions for the workers doing all of this by hand harvesting/opening, as I would have expected the nuts to be even more pricey...

I was hoping doctor guy, as a doctor, would have some studies to show that his supplement actually helps. Zinc does help with immunity, but also comes with side effects. Maybe he did have studies but we never got to them? Since he spent so much money (or I fast forwarded that part) And while his point was good, his presentation was really off putting- maybe just how he presented/spoke... he sounded like a surgeon :P He was correct about the antibiotic overuse, and what he didn't explain well, and then Mark jumped in and seem to be missing his point (since Mark was talking about family history/long term health), is that medicine has become satisfaction based, not health outcomes. Patients are given surveys (way too many surveys!) and if they aren't happy that can impact the doctors job. So if I refuse to give antibiotics because they aren't warranted but the patient disagrees and wants antibiotics, they can give me a low score on the survey and ruin a quarters worth of patient satisfaction scores. It's like that thing at the car dealership- if it's not a 10 it's a fail... and some companies may use that to fire people/ reprimand them/dock their pay. Even if they were doing the right thing medically... which is really messed up! But that really has little to do with his product, since I don't think it's going to stop people from wanting antibiotics all the time... only lots and lots of education will help with that.

S11.E04: Bug Bite Thing, Snacklins, Knife Aid, Plop Star
roctavia replied to JTMacc99's topic in Shark Tank
I’m curious to hear how the mosquito thing works for those of you that ordered it.. the thing I’ve been wondering is that many times you don’t know where the bite is until hours later when it really starts to itch and I wonder if there would be much left at that point to suck out with the device... will await updates next summer 🙂 -
Wow, that sudden change is really frustrating!! 10 weeks of mysteries wasn't just kind of a farce it was a huge lie... With all of the advertising they were doing during this past weeks Crossword Mystery for the new one that was supposed to air this weekend, it's seems really weird to dump it all of the sudden at the last minute. Like many of us, I like it better than the first one. Unless there was some strange subject matter that has suddenly become too close to home or something and they need to do some reshoots? (Like postponing the school shooter episode of Buffy because a real shooting happened) But something that dramatic in a Hallmark Mystery doesn't really seem to fit... But overall, disappointed. but I guess I won't need to check on the hallmark channel until January when the mysteries come back. I hope we have enough traffic in this thread that we can keep it, even if we will be a little quiet for a few months while Christmas takes over.

Caught up on the new Crossword mystery. I liked it better than the first one... and although the eventual bad guys were suspicious throughout, it wasn't a cut and dried here's the bad guy you guessed immediately. It also worked as an okay way to get her involved in the murder, since it would be hard to have another murder all about the crossword puzzle. I like the male lead more than Lacey Chabert, something about her mouth/teeth? bothers me but it's always been an issue and I can't put my finger on what it is, I get a same feeling when watching Seth McFarlane... but there's a quality that just bothers me a tiny bit... but it's still tolerable to watch her... but they did have good chemistry. I wouldn't mind if they made more of these, even though it's the same detective man, random quirky lady job pairing... At least Chronicle mysteries and Gourmet Detective are a little different.

S11.E02: Face Yoga, Circadian Optics, Atlas Monroe, Boost Oxygen

Didn't Chick-fil-A just do a big meatless chicken thing? I wonder if that was who they were talking about wanting to use their product, especially if it tastes that good. I suppose if they had something like that already in the works and who could potentially give them some cash to produce product, they may not have truly wanted a deal, or at least not a deal that made them give up the majority of the company... -
Caught up on the Matchmaker Mystery, I agree with a lot of what's been said above.... Danica's acting wasn't great, though I thought it did settle in better as the movie went on. The premise with the matchmaking TV show is a little far fetched but I did like the multiple motives and not a completely easy to guess killer in the end... though once we knew there was embezzlement going on, it was clear there was something shady with the work people. I didn't get much chemistry between the lead, but these movies do tend to do that slowly. I do wish we had a different set up instead of again having a male detective and a random wannabe detective... The Gourmet Detective series flips that, which is nice, but so are the other series like Garage Sale and Chronicle mysteries where the police are involved peripherally but not meant to be main characters/ love interests. Too many of the new movies are pairing cutesy "Lady Job" with big strong police man.... But I suppose it's sort of what to expect with this type of movie. I'm sure I'll keep tuning in since we've got new mysteries and wouldn't refuse to watch another Matchmaker one... but my standards are low :P Also, does his character have like, any personality?? I mean I guess we saw he bakes in the newest movie and met his mom? but he still seems like a blank to me... and especially in the first mystery he seemed like just a body there to stand in for a detective guy....
-
Agree! I like the Gourmet Detective ones a lot and Emma Fielding was at least a little different setting, plus archaeology adventures interest me... We'll see how the new mysteries go, but the match maker/ photographer/crossword puzzle maker? are much less interesting occupations to get wrapped up in murder mysteries... Gourmet detective is fun since the roles are flipped and it's not just the detective guy and meddling want to be sleuth lady, but the woman actually gets to be the detective.

Finally caught up on Mystery 101, I really like this cast and premise. The mystery was interesting and they introduced enough characters that you couldn’t guess immediately who was going to be the killer. They also didn’t have our hero put herself in peril at the last second either, which is a nice change lately. I liked the concept of the book fair and how they are evolving the relationship with the detective. As others have said, they have great chemistry but also a good ‘ is this going to move forward or just friendship’ thing like when he asked her to get dinner and Bud invited himself along. Whatever it is, it’s working for me so far. Some of this did get a little convoluted with the extra dead guy in the car and the crazy fan girl stuff but I suppose it makes things less predictable. One of the Murder She Baked movies was Christmas themed... I assume they aired it around Christmas but missed its original run. I would love some Christmas or other holiday mysteries!
-
Looking forward to the Mystery 101 tonight, do we get 2 more weeks of it as well or just next weekend has another new Mystery 101? I like this cast and the being a Mystery/Literature teacher was a different kind of way to get her involved, and actually can give her some reason to have knowledge about murders and be useful instead of the typical I just keep stumbling into murders and will keep investigating just because... for some of the other movies.
-
I do think one of the challenges for the killer is obvious thing is that as these series continue, we know all the characters, so each new episode introduced just a few new characters, and clearly one of those will be the killer. And the add in the habit of casting nobodies in most supporting roles and then one person that everyone recognizes in what also seems to be a supporting unimportant role, so they are obviously going to be the killer since we recognize them. Short of only doing stand alone movies, I don't know if there is a great fix for that... though having situations where we meet a ton of new people does help a little- i'm thinking of the last movie 101 with the play. There were a lot of new people and while some were clear red herrings, it left a little more mystery.
-
You are definitely right that the lead always ends up in peril.... every single time... I wouldn't mind if it happened some of the time, but it would be nice if they found another dramatic way for it all to come together. At least in this new Darrow movie that didn't happen- she figured it out and got to have her dramatic scene in court, so that's a little different!! But the other series have definitely played out that way a lot more.
-
I guess I've only ever seen him on these hallmark type movies so I don't know any better about his acting/infuriating other characters he's played... but he's earned some good will from being in the Murder She Baked movies since those were when I first started watching the hallmark mystery channel... I've only read like one or two of the books and liked them ( i think they were the first ones) so it was excited for the movies. But never read more of the books. I wish they would make some more Nora Roberts ones (the more mystery suspense ones) into movies, but I can't remember what channel was doing that... I really like the main cast.. .I think some of the law office crew changed a bit from the first movie, but the lead, the love interest and the mother are all great casting, so I hope they make more of these.
-
I thought it was a good series, though I don't mind him and I like Alison Sweeney a lot (good old childhood days of our lives nostalgia) And while they did have both love interests, the series was much more decisive early on instead of every book being some will they won't they, here's another random dude to date. I also think it's funny that the actor they have as Norman is now a buff but doofy firefighter on Tacoma FD, it took me forever to figure why he was familiar on that show, since the character is very un-norman like. The mysteries themselves were also pretty good... though I haven't read enough of the books to know if the books give away the murderers.
-
I liked this one too, but was definitely thinking that the court scene wasn't quite realistic... but it helped that she totally had all the evidence and even if it hadn't been the dramatic day in court thing, it would have all come out shortly... It's nice to see some progress in the relationship between Claire and Miles but those hallmark smash your mouth together and don't move kisses are so weird :P Not that I want to watch random people make out, but it just looked so awkward. Oh well, they are still fun to watch together. The mystery itself wasn't too difficult to figure out, but it was still some interesting twists in what was really going on and who the real killer was.
