Maybe TPTB are trying to say she had no right to be mad? They were trying to frame it as Oliver being in an impossible situation. They were throwing everybody (Thea in particular) and his brother under the bus to try to make Oliver sympathetic after the reactions to 4.08. She should have been more understanding. I actually don't agree with any of this but I think it's the story they are telling.

I disagree that it's apples to oranges. Felicity has been dating a cop and lying (even if by omission) since she began seeing him. She has been in a personal relationship with him for 2+ months. I don't think they are necessarily saying she was wrong to be mad or feel hurt. Look at Malone's immediate reaction. I do think they are trying to say she was partially at fault in the breakup. In 4.08 she didn't give him time to come to grips with the reveal before she walked away. In 4.15 she walked away without letting him say anything. She shut him down again in 4.16. I don't agree with how they are framing the story but I do think it is what they are doing. I also know there was a WM interview where she mentioned Felicity seeing her role in the breakup. If I had never read that I wouldn't have even considered that they might be doing a parallel. I would love to discover that Malone has some other reason for being (evil might make him interesting) but I'm not convinced.

I watched 5.06 again and then I watched the scene between Felicity and Malone several times (see @TV Echo's post in 5.06 thread). I have seen a lot of indignation over Felicity saying she works for the Green Arrow. I actually wondered if Emily misspoke her line because earlier in the episode she said WITH to Diggle. Anyway, I think the indignation might have taken away from the purpose of the scene. It might be the main reason Felicity has a boyfriend. Malone: "I figured whenever you were ready to tell me what's going on with you, you would tell me." (Compare that to original timeline in 4.08 and Felicity's reaction.) Malone: "You are a criminal, albeit for a good cause." Felicity: That went better than I expected. (paraphrasing) "You're not feeling mad, hurt, or a lack of trust?" Malone: "I'd be a jerk if I did." (Compare that to 4-15 and Felicity being angry and then walking out. She never let Oliver say anything. In 4-16 She basically refused to talk about the situation when Oliver asked after the fake wedding.) I think this is the EPs/writers having Felicity realize (eventually at least) what her role in the breakup was. Although Oliver lied, they broke up because Felicity was unwilling to try to work anything out. There was an interview in 4B that said she would see her role in it. The closest they came in 4B was Curtis pointing out a parallel between O/F & Noah/Donna.

In 5.05 Human Target as Oliver gets Susan Williams to agree to no hit jobs (news) on the Mayor for a month. It just dawned on me that a month would be 5.09. Any ideas on what happens? Does she just realize he's a good guy and goes silently into the night? Does something bad happen to her?

I think I'm more sad than bitter. When I started watching this show it was a drama/action show based on DC Comics characters. It has morphed into a comic book show with lots of masks but little story.

I like this idea because he is someone most viewers would recognize right away and has been tied into the story throughout the seasons so the reveal might be shocking. Having to create a backstory for another character to tie to Oliver wouldn't have the same impact. I guess I prefer good guy gone bad to bad guy seeking vengeance. It would also explain the setup or whatever of Lance especially after the BC reveal. He holds him responsible too.

If this was a season 1 show instead of season 5 I would probably enjoy it more. It's starting to feel like I'm watching reruns but with different characters. There are slight twists in the scenes but still I have this deja vu feeling.

There is at least one shot in the promo that mentions a new vigilante that is also in the 5.07 promo. Susan's voiceover is probably from it too. Now I am wondering if there is a hookup with the reporter or if she ends up in Prometheus crosshairs by following Oliver trying to figure out what he's up to. If it's the latter my worst case scenario would be a retread of Felicity & the Count from 2.07.

You know what I really hate about that scene? They did something similar with Ray in 3.17 when he found out about Oliver and he calls her a liar or something. She ends up apologizing and then they end up kissing.

Evelyn is in the promo for 5.07.
-
Did the show change their mind or are they just dragging things out until 5.07 the last sweeps episode? There was so much Susan in the "Previously on" segment but then nothing really in the episode. I thought for sure they were hooking up because of it.
-
Ha! I think that would at least make Malone more interesting.
-
Not sure. Facing the past? Moving forward? Maybe someone should ask BFS.

I think that might have been the dullest episode to date but yay OTA scenes as well as Felicity/Oliver, Felicity/Diggle & Diggle/Oliver. Malone as fanboy over Green Arrow was a little much. Although if he's evil it would make more sense. First episode that had both Adrian Church and Prometheus in it. The ending with Lance and Prometheus weapon was interesting though.

Where is this picture from? I saw theories about Teddy Reston from Legacies in S1. He was the youngest son who was in the van with mom when Dad died in the bank and GA took down the oldest son. Earlier Oliver tried to give dad a 2nd chance by offering him a job since his firing by Robert Queen from the factory started the family' downfall.

I was skeptical because of Viglante 5.07. I thought there was no way would they have him have 2 alter egos but now I'm wondering if it's a distraction.

I asked this in the Human Target thread but it might go better here. Is it a coincidence that Josh Segarra (Adrian Chase) has not been in any of the episodes Prometheus has been in? AC was in 3 & 4. Prometheus was in 1, 2 & 5. Am I sensing a pattern?

Wild Dog was dishonorably discharged because he beat up a prisoner they were transporting trying to get information.

I don't disagree with any of this. All I was trying to say is that he might have thought he had placated the shippers and was still getting grief which led to his break point. His tweet was 2 minutes after the show started IIRC. In his defense (I can't believe I typed that) most tagged tweets I have seen over the last couple of weeks were about Olicity. The Felicity specific ones weren't tagging him but I also don't check his mentions that frequently. I didn't check last night I just saw multiple angry tweets at him in response to his tweet.

Sorry to interrupt the conversation, but I have to wonder if Ben Sokolowski's (a writer and producer on the show) trip to Redditt last spring is why Felicity is being written mainly as S1's comic relief. He also sent out a tweet about Loliver vs Olicity looking for likes/retweets to see where interest lay. Show research?

I think there might be more pressure due to Legends too. It's a 2nd year show and Arrow in it's 5th is still doing as well if not better. Last couple of thoughts on the subject. MG told jbuffyangel a couple of things. 1. There would be a difficult moment for shippers in 5.01. 2. 5.05 would provide clarity (It did for Oliver at least). He said shippers would have to be patient. They weren't which might be why it was the last straw for him.

I actually wondered if the Detective knows or suspects because of the "rag" analysis in 5.02. In 5.03 they have him passing on Prometheus's agenda directly to GA. (I don't think he's a dirty cop. With my track record that probably means he is. Ha!) He could simply be SCPD's normal incompetent cop. I guess it depends on whether they want him to be Quentin-like or not. I think if she tells him he is more likely to be okay with it than to blow up like Ray did unless they really are intentionally making Felicity a villain this season, especially if it results in him hunting down the GA. This is why I said short-term or season-long temporary LI a couple of posts back. I will be shocked if they give her multiple partners. He conveniently keeps her benched without actually having to write a story while Oliver can have romantic shenanigans with one or more partners. They are using a lot of the same tropes from S1/S2/S3 but the outcomes are different. SA basically said Susan Williams wasn't going to be like Isabel Rochev. McKenna Hall/Tina Boland parallels were being drawn yesterday. After SA's description it doesn't sound like the same if for no other reason than they find her in a different city. They are looking for "Black Canary" not a cop. The cop role helps out though if the Detective doesn't survive for whatever reason (breakup or death) and she comes to SC permanently. Who knows what that relationship morphs into. For a regular, Josh Segarra hasn't been around much. He's been in 2 of 5 episodes so far. Guess he was expensive. They must have plans for him though. I just don't know where outside 5.07 though.

Thanks @tv echo. I tried to watch but after about 3 minutes couldn't bear to listen to him speak anymore. Just wasn't interested in what he had to say. :-)

WM said at least 2 things in some of her interviews (don't remember which and too lazy to go look) which I think are playing out right now. 1. Oliver & Felicity are both going to have to figure out what their relationship means to them before they can decide to fight for it (not a direct quote). This can only mean romantic relationship because their working relationship is fine which they have been stressing since SDCC. Cue new boyfriend and Oliver dating or whatever. If it's not the reporter it will be someone else. We might be better off if the reporter is more than just a hook-up. In 5.06 Felicity CONSIDERS telling the Detective about what she does. What she does will give us an idea of long-term temp or soon to be over-temp. (I think this also explains SA's I don't know if he's ready to move on but it's time for Oliver to have another relationship.) 2. The most ominous...We are not necessarily reuniting them this season. We will have to wait and see how that plays out. In season 5 the only regular getting a fleshed-out story appears to be Oliver, at least in 5A. The other focus is on Wild Dog and 5.07 is supposed to be focused on Vigilante. Diggle & Felicity's stories as set-up in 5.02 are supposed to be still paying dividends at least through 5.12. I think we know Diggle's arc (guilt) but it might end up being more about mentoring Wild Dog so we'll see. IMO, Felicity's is probably about finding and setting up a network of vigilantes. I just don't expect much else. I'm not sure what else Havenrock related would/could occur other than her having scenes with Rory, doing what I don't know. Even if they went the route of her setting up Smoak Tech I would think that would be more about giving Curtis a place to create his technology than her. I agree with @dtissagirl that they equate screen time with story lines. SA's remarks about finding Tina in another city versus the description of a CC cop who is anti-vigilante was interesting. Do they find her in Hub City? Maybe she is Black Canary but she simply comes and goes throughout the story. This would also lend credence to the idea of a vigilante network.
