I think this is what SA was talking about when he used the wording "retrospectively expected place". If Oliver didn't get on the Gambit this might very well have been S1.

I should have been more prepared for what was coming when I heard/read pre-season SA refer to Arrow as a comic book show. He resisted that description for years.

Is Arrow setting up Oliver's legacy to be the Arrowverse's version of the Justice League or some similar organization? Not a comics reader so I don't know all the ins and outs of that actual organization. Assuming there are no more spin offs in the works, we are going to have quite a few heroes who look to be around for most of the season (at the moment) all brought together and mentored by the Green Arrow - Wild Dog, Ragman, Mr. Terrific, NuCanary. This is in addition to Spartan and Speedy with Felicity Smoak heading up the information/tech side. Artemis looks to be the one failure at this point. There are also possible team ups with all the other superheroes in the universe. I originally thought Felicity's story arc in 5B might be setting up a vigilante/hero network since that is what she appears to be positioned to do but now I'm wondering if that is Oliver's legacy instead. Oliver as mayor so far seems to be about furthering the vigilante role. (I know, we're only 1/3 of the way into the season aired.)

5.12 is titled Bratva. I'm guessing SA's shirtless scene he filmed yesterday is getting his tattoo.

My question is what is he disagreeing with - the idea that relationships are important to Oliver's growth, the idea that core characters are being sidelined, or both?

Wrong thread probably but I really have to wonder how much of the narrative surrounding the show is coming from WB/DC/CW directives and the actors, writers, etc just have to go with it. WB & DC want to sell merchandise. CW seems to want the male demo. What has gotten them the most press - good & bad - the last couple of years - OTA & Olicity of which 2 are original characters not comic characters. I really have to wonder if after agreeing to Laurel's death they were told to squash the original characters from the discussion and to focus on the comics character.

I am guessing that we get a glimpse of Tina at the end of 5.10 similar to Laurel suiting up in the end of 3.10. 5.11 will be her real introduction.

Well, I am not sold on any particular story. She begins 5A doing nothing but being in the lair (and has a boyfriend) so I did wonder if she would be out of it in 5B with her own arc similar to Diggle's 5.01-5.03 arc. That said, it looks to me like she is being positioned to recruit/dispatch vigilantes but would that really be new for her? Smoak Tech doesn't seem new for her either. I'd actually like to be surprised by something new. As for Tina, I only have trouble believing she's for Wild Dog when I see BTS pictures like today. LOL! As for Olicity, I don't think they are over but I haven't seen anything onscreen that says a reunion is imminent. Not banking on anything happening just because Antonio is directing 5.09. I do remember how 3.20 happened though so anything is possible.

They might not but if she has a company she could help from there. I was thinking maybe they wouldn't go the Sara route in lair like S2 IF Tina is for Oliver. I don't know whose potential love interest she is. Just speculating as stupid as it might sound. Inside info?

IMO, Smoak Tech would probably be more about establishing a place for Curtis to create technology than about Felicity. That said IF Tina is for Oliver they might want to remove her from the lair. Smoak Tech would do that. It would also sort of be a replay of her reaction to Sara's death. "I want more than this in my life."

Hmm...So if Billy is a good guy who bites the dust, does Felicity figure out if it's "real" before it happens? I'm now wondering about her 5B story arc.

As of this moment we have no confirmation of the Detective or Reporter in any episodes after 5.09. I like @ Carrie Ann’s theory for how we could get rid of 3 characters by tying them all into Prometheus. I’m not expecting to get that lucky though. It would definitely make the Detective “not like” Oliver or Ray. In 5A the Detective isn’t really a detective on screen. He’s a boyfriend/ship stall. The reporter got to be a bit of a reporter at first but that’s it. Now she Appears to be a romantic interest for Oliver. Even though she’s not in 5.08 and we weren’t treated to a hookup last night (sarcasm) on screen doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I am wondering if the temporary love interests will disappear from sight but still be referenced from time to time in show especially IF Tina is for Wild Dog. This keeps Olicity stalled but it also removes the threat of Oliver and Tina if she is for Wild Dog. Since both Tina and Wild Dog (based on RG’s Q&A) have a possibility of being regulars for next season, I am thinking there is a good chance that they would go there. The temporary love interests for O & F can be brought back at the end of sweeps (5.11-5.14) or later in the season for whatever reason.

No. Oliver and reporter went for drinks but if there was a Felicity/BF scene it was cut. Goody now we can worry over 5.09 since both CP & TR are in it. They seem to disappear afterwards though.

The last minute was the only good thing about the episode IMO. Thea and Lance were decent. He's gone to rehab but the rest was just meh.
