  1. I got it solely on the idea that "Vittorio" sounded latin, and the Macarena was in Spanish (which I didn't understand but did recognize). I never once did the dance - I hated it with a passion (I just don't like silly dances - or rather, doing silly dances) My only real problem with notifications (site only - I don't get them in email) has been that they'll show up again even when I've cleared the list. Now that's a visual I don't want to have in my head! To be fair to Al, I can't think of any politician I'd like to watch doing the Macarena. Even ones I hate.
  2. Damn! I thought I checked out the right post. So sorry @30Helens
  3. So sorry, busy evening and morning. Week 34 – April 29 – One Asterisk 166. NICKNAMES - Surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku has been called by this 2-word nickname that describes any dominant person or expert (Big Kahuna) 167. FICTIONAL GROUPS - Maybe because he was too Baroque, Bernini was rejected as a name for a member of this group created in 1983 (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) 168. *EXECUTIVE ORDERS - On Nov. 15, 1961 JFK suspended the 8-hour workday at this agency, saying its work needed to proceed "with all possible speed" (NASA) 169. COUNTRIES WITH SPACE PROGRAMS - It launched its first satellite, Asterix, in 1965 (France) 170. 1990s NO. 1 SONGS - This title character of the top song from 1996 can't stand her boyfriend Vitorino & spurns him to be with his 2 friends (Macarena) 3/5 plus one * this week. Much better than usual.
  4. Thanks, that's very interesting. I like that it's a name connected with her family, even if it's difficult for me to pronounce (from the spelling, anyway).
  5. I remember them from my childhood, but for some reason in my memory they moved from France to one of the Scandinavian countries. I picked Sweden....sigh.... That's cool! I have a sort of second hand Merv Griffin story that's not so pleasant (in my mind anyway). When I was a young teen, my cousin was on his talk show because he'd released a record with Motown (my cousin was quite white, btw) Merv treated him like a southern hick (which to be fair, he was from the deep south - about which his sister used to say in a deep southern drawl "There are only 3 southern states - Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia") πŸ˜‚ Anyway, being the teen I was, I held a grudge against Griffin for a long time. I got over it. Growing up changes things. Still don't love him, though. It wasn't before my husband's time, and a little bit of my time, and neither of us had ever heard that before. Square I remember quite well. It was kind of a crap game for me. I had a lot of cognitive paralysis (tm @ProudMary)
  6. Me too! It was for me too - I'm a touch younger (not by much) but the space program was always a big deal to me. I was astonished that no one got it. Not that the answers were terrible, but I would have expected someone to get it. It was as insta a get as I've ever had.
  7. I hadn't a clue when it came to that one, but the mister just rattled it off like it was no big deal. Kinda ticked me off... It occurred to me, after reading this, that she's exactly what she should be as an ER doc. Calm, not particularly expressive on the outside, while her mind runs a mile a minute figuring out how to help the patients that come in.
  8. I will be using "cognitive paralysis" in the future - it describes exactly what happens to me. Thanks!

  10. Me too. Except for archivist. I usually hover over links like "here" - or any "hidden" link to see where it goes to - works just fine here.
  11. Just yourself is fine πŸ™‚ Seems to me like truly not knowing them is the best of excuses.
  12. Week 33 – April 22 – Two Asterisks 161. *20th CENTURY AUTHORS - Best known for a novel, she wrote at least 6 full-length plays & collaborated with Moms Mabley on a 1931 Broadway revue (Zora Neale Hurston) 162. BUSINESS - In the 1850s the .925 sterling silver standard was instituted by this company, the first American one to do so (Tiffany) 163. HISTORIC TRANSPORTS - Decorated with an illustration of the Montgolfiers' craft, the smoking room aboard this could be accessed only via an airlock (The Hindenburg) 164. *STATUES -The 42-foot-high statue of Athena in this state capital is the tallest indoor statue in the United States (Nashville) 165. U.S. GEOGRAPHY - At 14,410', it's one of North America's highest volcanoes; a Puyallup name for it can be translated to "bring the water" (Mt. Rainer) 1/5 for me this week. Tiffany - totally thought it was wrong, but viola!
  13. In a weird coincidence, we watched that very episode on our local Fox channel last night. I'm happy to say it never entered my mind. But neither did the Hindenburg (though the mister got it). I must confess, I've had a few - but then again, a few too many.
  14. My first thought was Wells Fargo, then I went with Tiffany, which I thought was very, very wrong. It was a nice surprise. Same here regarding CERN. As someone who worked in tech my entire career (and was working when the first emails started - I'm THAT old), I hang my head in shame.
  15. As others have said, EVERYONE deserves cake (and ice cream), and those with a zero week deserve it even more. dankeschΓΆn, Dankesean! I ended up 2/5 with no *. But that's an improvement. So I'm good with that.
