raven October 16, 2022 Share October 16, 2022 I enjoyed Boar - a creature feature, but I like those. I was in the mood to turn my brain off and it fit the bill. A movie I left my brain on for was Black Box . The trailer looked interesting and I've really liked Mamoudou Athie since I watched Archive 81. He plays Nolan, who suffers severe memory loss after a car accident that killed his wife. He is trying to raise his young daughter. I figured out the twist pretty quickly but the performances are really good and there are some tense and interesting scenes. Maybe not strictly horror (more a drama/sci-fi with horror elements) but I recommend it. I also recently re-watched 2004's Dawn of the Dead and it really holds up well. The performances are good, the effects are decent and the zombies are scary. I've always appreciated how in this one they jump right into the action - you go to bed with your husband after a long day of work and wake up to a zombie trying to eat you and the world gone to hell. I had managed to avoid the trailer or hearing anything about it beyond the basic plot (woman's Airbnb experience goes terribly wrong), so had no idea what I was in for. This was intense and such a wild ride, but also managed to find moments of sadness and even humor. The quick cut from Reveal spoiler Justin Long's character shocked to find the hidden kidnap/torture room in his basement to him back upstairs eagerly googling if the space can be added to the house listing is the hardest I've laughed in a while. Justin Long was the standout, but the whole cast was excellent. I highly recommend it and don't want to say more about it for those who haven't had the chance to watch it yet. I have seen the trailer for Smile, which is getting a big marketing push, and while it doesn't look that promising, I still want to see it if only because of Kal Penn, Kyle Gallner, and the Ring-like premise. This movie was so strange. I've just watched it. I ended up being spoiled on one thing, but not Justin's character. I was shocked when he Spoiler pushed her off that building, to get the woman to jump after her. He's definitely a bad person, or he was. Anela November 1, 2022 Share November 1, 2022 I might watch The Orphanage, tonight or tomorrow. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/91101-no-sleep-tonight-then-horror-movies/page/4/#findComment-7729670
krankydoodle November 1, 2022 Share November 1, 2022 Justin Long was a good choice for that role. It works in the same way as the casting for the guys Cassie goes after in Promising Young Woman. I love The Orphange, but it's kind of a tough watch. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/91101-no-sleep-tonight-then-horror-movies/page/4/#findComment-7730302
Spartan Girl November 1, 2022 Share November 1, 2022 Watched Clown on SyFy this last month. I don’t want to talk about it. An American Werewolf in London still holds up, but JFC those villagers were the worst. If you insist on being uncaring bystanders, the kindest thing they could have done was let David die before shooting the werewolf that ultimately turned him. Instead, it was all “don’t ask, don’t tell, mind your business.” Blood was on their hands too. krankydoodle November 2, 2022 Share November 2, 2022 Clown is shockingly brutal. It's funny to think it was directed by the same guy who made the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/91101-no-sleep-tonight-then-horror-movies/page/4/#findComment-7732226
Gharlane October 14, 2023 Share October 14, 2023 I wish Bravo still played this, but I noticed AMC has a new version out there. Unfortunately, it's on their streaming service (Shudder?) and I'm not willing to pay for it.
