Bort December 12, 2018 Share December 12, 2018 Quote Fernando's mother pays a surprise visit, and Steve teaches Jackson how to drive. Max makes a memorable debut on "Wake Up San Francisco." Airdate: Friday, December 14, 2018 Link to comment
Lady Calypso December 15, 2018 Share December 15, 2018 Huh. This episode was directed by Candace. Maria Canals-Barrera did a fantastic job as Nadia. Fernando's mother was fun to watch. I actually enjoyed the whole plot, especially the mural part. I can see where Fernando gets his...Fernandoness. The Steve/Jackson subplot was alright. I did enjoy Jackson knowing that Steve had no idea about cars. I also enjoyed the appearance of Matt. I like that he was just as inexperienced with the car as Steve, especially since Steve accidentally stumbled across the right fix. The Max plot was alright. I did enjoy his invention and can understand his anxiety over getting a B. I love Danny and DJ talking to him about his perfectionism. 4 Link to comment
Aileen December 17, 2018 Share December 17, 2018 I thought it was a great touch that Matt, too, knew nothing about cars. I think that's more realistic of guys this age (said by someone who's Stephanie's age). 4 Link to comment

I always figured that Baby Boomer guys tended to know about working on cars more because cars from the 1960's and 1970's weren't as reliable as they are now.The standards went up in the 90's. It really is becoming more of a niche thing. And we can assume that Steve and Matt both came from upper middle class families like the Tanners. They're not going to be driving around in cheapo cars that need lots of work to keep running. 5 Link to comment

It is more that now cars are so computerized that there is not much you can do unless you have all the electronics to fix it. And everything is encapsulated. 5 Link to comment
tennisgurl January 7, 2019 Share January 7, 2019 Meeting Fernados mom certainly explains a lot of his...eccentricities! That was a fun subplot, and I like that Fernando is getting more to do this season than be comic relief. I mean, he still is, but he gets a few more character moments as well. Not too surprising that Steve and Matt dont know much about cars. It was nice that Jackson knew already that they had no idea what they were doing, and was cool about it anyway. Danny is just eternally confused about everything in his life. 1 Link to comment
Glory January 7, 2019 Share January 7, 2019 I liked Fernando's mom - but this episode really drove home the point that there is no reason that Kimmy and Ramona shouldn't live with Fernando next door. I don't understand why they wouldn't move back in next door and let Stephanie and Jimmy move into the attic space. Nothing makes sense! 4 Link to comment

It doesn't make sense other than just to keep the girls together. Even though I like Fernando, I feel like they had him and Kimmy reconcile too soon and got DJ and Stephanie paired off with guys too soon. I would've liked to have seen more of the she-wolf pack on their own, doing their own thing before they brought guys and relationships into it. If most of the first season had just been the she-wolf pack and then toward the end of season one start bringing guys into the storyline and then pair the girls off with BFs in season two that woulda been good. 2 Link to comment
